- roebeet, on 10/16/2008, -13/+201I really though McCain was going to reach over and strangle Obama, at one point. The man is becoming unhinged....
- Jsoul87, on 10/16/2008, -12/+195Obama/Biden: 4
McCain/Palin: 0 - inactive, on 10/16/2008, -12/+179McCain needs to stop pouting like a child when Obama speaks.
Is he going to snicker like that when Vladimir Putin is talking to him?
Wait.... I forgot, he would need "pre-conditions" to talk to enemies. - metaliq, on 10/16/2008, -4/+110Favorite moment from the debate (from memory):
McCain: "We need to get good teachers in school, and get bad teachers out (...) I want to let troops can back and go straight to teaching, not having to go through all of those silly certification processes."
hahaha. What the hell? So, despite our surplus of trained and certified teachers LOOKING for jobs, he wants to allow people who have never been trained to teach jump right in? And that is supposed to somehow produce better teachers? I actually laughed out loud at this line of reasoning. I've heard it before and it's incredibly funny how he showed his own lack of logic, concerning education, within a single phrase. - meese, on 10/16/2008, -5/+108http://tinyurl.com/mccaineyes

- WafflesID, on 10/16/2008, -4/+76Especially when Obama answered his question about the fines that joe's business would have to pay for not having health insurance.
BO: "Here's your answer joe, ZERO"
JM: "ZERO?!"
I thought I saw smoke coming out of his ears.
The anger monkeys were out towards the end of that debate... - skteoievtehr, on 10/16/2008, -16/+79I hear a LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDSLIDE approaching. Thank god! *****.
- digguseless, on 10/16/2008, -4/+67As a small business owner, i am disgusted at this "joe the plumber" BS. McCain would be an economic nightmare, and every independent economist has said the same thing. McCain's policies are projected to increase the federal deficit 30-40% MORE than Obama's policies in the next decade. The difference in tax policy comes down to this: Obama says to your face that if you have a lot of money, you might see a small tax increase temporarily to keep the defecit from getting out of control. McCain says everything but "read my lips" and instead sends your children the bill plus interest.
my mind has long been decided - McCain would better serve America from within the Senate or as a cabinet member for Obama. He his an honorable man but he's sold his soul to the NeoCon Deficit Spending Party. - duckbillgates, on 10/16/2008, -7/+64McCain continues to feel he has to play to the base. What he doesn't realize is that the conservative base is shrinking.
For example, independent voters continue to show they don't care about Ayers, but the faithful at McCain-Palin rallies keep harping on him to hit Obama hard on the issue.
And these numbers are the results of that strategy. Thanks, John! - liberD, on 10/16/2008, -15/+68McCain says he's not Bush...no, he's even worse!
- netneutrality, on 10/16/2008, -2/+55It was an enjoyable debate either way. In the first half McCain seemed to be coming out with some strong words and Obama's defense was below par. But the Ayers/ACORN issues did not help McCain -- independent voters saw it as a distraction issue, and it gave Obama the chance to give his resolution to the accusations once and for all. Obama was more on form throughout the second half, and if you were watching the cross-party reaction tickers on CNN he got the highest approval moment of all (97%), when talking about education and parent's responsibilities. It was a nice bit of speech.
- dagnabbit, on 10/16/2008, -10/+60David Gergen, a pundit on CNN just said McCain's strategy should be go to out with honor and help with the Senate races. I lol'ed.
- WafflesID, on 10/16/2008, -5/+50The runner up....
- SkinnerBox, on 10/16/2008, -1/+46Yeah, I thought that was ludicrous. Just because someone is a veteran doesn't make them qualified to be a teacher. I guess that makes sense coming from a man who seems to think that being a POW qualifies him to be president.
- Baelorn, on 10/16/2008, -2/+45That doesn't mean we can sit at home on election day though. It's important that every supporter votes to make sure that that landslide happens.

- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -1/+36Most troops don't even have higher education. We ought to let them just jump into teaching our children? That's a great policy.

- haiduz, on 10/16/2008, -1/+32I really though that was the BEST part of the debate. McCain just set himself up so badly!
In his last debate and in his stump speech, he tried to nail obama by saying he wont tell you what the fee is, (obama didnt answer cause he ran out of time). The only honest answer Obama can give is zero (since small businesses are expempt), so i dont know why he was pushing the issue expecting a different answer. However, he obama said zero, McCain's reaction was priceless. - netneutrality, on 10/16/2008, -2/+33I'm delighted that you agree that Obama has a massive stock of vocabulary and knowledge and that he knows how to spend money better than ignorant religion-and-gun-clinging simpletons.
- netneutrality, on 10/16/2008, -0/+29Allow me to use this opportunity to correct your misinformation in the order that you posted it:
1. Not true. There are vastly more Democrats (check the pie-chart about half way down the page): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics_of_the_Unite ...
2. Obama supporters are a whole lot more enthusiastic about their candidate choice than McCain supporters, which might help to balance that effect.
3. Huh? California's blue. Blue blue blue. Check the polls: http://www.pollster.com/polls/ca/08-ca-pres-ge-mvo ...
4. You're most extraordinarily wrong. Sorry. To win, McCain *MUST WIN* Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida. Lose any of those, and he's toast. Check the front pages of electoral-vote.com, or pollster.com. Now *do the ***** maths*, and you'll see what a huge challenge this is for McCain to make up the 270 EVs.
5. No they weren't. - JuanBSU, on 10/16/2008, -6/+35Are you retarded? McCain couldn't even get a coherent sentence out of his mouth without steam coming out of his ears. He was rude and his anger really overpowered what he was saying. I think that is what is really going to ***** him over tonight.
- izolutionz, on 10/16/2008, -1/+30Great highlight.
The other great moment for me was when Obama completely called him out on the lie that he doesn't support immediate health care for children in failed abortions. Again, to me this shows how badly they are prepared to run this country because they did little background on the issue to note that there was already a law in place to do such a thing, but what Obama objected to were other issues. - charm803, on 10/16/2008, -0/+28Did you notice that McCain had all his *facts straight when it came to talking about Obama, but when it came to his own policies, he couldn't put together a straight proposal?
*By facts I meant his talking points. - meese, on 10/16/2008, -2/+29CNN called folks too, and their poll showed basically the same results:
Who did the best job in the debate?
Independents
McCain (R) 31
Obama (D) 57
Republicans
McCain (R) 68
Obama (D) 18
Democrats
McCain (R) 5
Obama (D) 88 - 2Chicos, on 10/16/2008, -1/+26"Joe the Plumber" is netting well well over 250,000! Wow. Time to look into Plumbing school.
- netneutrality, on 10/16/2008, -1/+26Nearly 32,000 views already? Damn the web's reaction is fast these days.
Also, I counted McCain blinking 51 times in that segment. - netneutrality, on 10/16/2008, -2/+26Most significant numbers from CBS's poll (which are not in the linked page because they don't have the full PDF report up yet, but they had them on the broadcast): Among the previously uncommitted voters, 28% say they are now committed to Obama; 14% say they are now committed to McCain. If the rest eventually decide the same way then that's a huge 2:1 advantage to Obama among the roughly 6 to 7% of voters nationally who still poll as undecided.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -1/+25That's because he was unprepared for it and had no script. He didn't read up on the policy.
- haiduz, on 10/16/2008, -3/+27Pundits say that this was McCain's best debate, and im not disputing that. McCain has the most at stake in the debate so i can see why they focus on him.
Im no pundit outside the intranets, but I thought tonight was Obama's best performance. After watching the first debates, I had a lot of criticisms of Obama for failing to address a lot of McCain's attacks (like withdraw=defeat). However, in this debate obama left no point uncountered. Everything that McCain brought up, obama spun against him, especially Joe the Plumber (zero?!!!). Where McCain really lost and obama won was the body language and non verbal communication which I though was just so important with the two candidates sitting side by side split screen. Obama kept his composure and laughed of his opponents attacks and conceded imporant points. McCain was fiddgety and looked so uncomfortable. He just keep blinking at obamas responses, and he wore his nerves on his sleeves. McCain didnt look presidential, but looked self-concious. Obama seemed to focus less on his presence because it came natural for him, and more focused on talking to the voters about the issues. - nedzeve, on 10/16/2008, -2/+25The more I read about this guy, the more I realize that this "Joe the Plumber" is a GOP plant.
- GorfTron, on 10/16/2008, -1/+24More like this.
http://masterdebater.ytmnd.com/ - heystoopid, on 10/16/2008, -0/+22The only real poll that counts is election day .
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -2/+24You should count the blinks, that way is a McCain landslide.
- niradg, on 10/16/2008, -3/+25In baseball, we call that a SWEEP!
- inactive, on 12/08/2008, -0/+22I'd be willing to bet that McCain made that ludicrous statement about letting vets teach without all that "silly certification" because that silly certification costs money, and he voted against the GI bill. So, now he wants to make it look like he cares about vets without spending a dime.
- cloudberries, on 10/16/2008, -1/+23Well, I'd rather there be an intelligent, learned guy like that in charge than an ignorant religion-and-gun-clinging simpleton (your words)
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -5/+27Older and not to mention a dumber VP.
- inactive, on 10/16/2008, -4/+24The only time McCain encountered an enemy was when he got caught and put into prison.
- topgigmedia, on 10/16/2008, -0/+20and the compulsive blinking... I found it disturbing.
- WafflesID, on 10/16/2008, -1/+20BWAHAHA!!
- vanguardanon, on 10/16/2008, -0/+19They keep acting like "Joe the plumber" is an average Joe. His problem is that he's making well over $250,000 and doesn't like his taxes. Cry me a river.
Two points:
1) The tax increase doesn't start until $250k. So if you make $251k you'll pay about $75 more under Obama. Don't make the mistake of thinking people under $300k are greatly impacted, the impact only touches the portion of your income over $250k.
2) People don't hire based on their generosity. If a new hire brings in more profit they will hire him. A higher tax rate doesn't impact if you should hire a new person. It only impacts how much of his extra profit you get to keep. - Mujokan, on 10/16/2008, -4/+23Should we question Sarah Palin's patriotism for consistently wearing the Alaska flag above the US flag, in contravention of the Flag Code? The whole issue of flag pins is stupid, which I think what dignity was getting at.
- Lula87, on 10/16/2008, -2/+20I think it's pretty obvious to EVERYONE at this point that the election is leaning toward a clear win for Obama. Now this is the point in time where the extremists start coming out with crazy and most likely offensive accusations to try and scare the remaining uncommitted people to their side at the last second.
