Why does this seem like par for the course for this Republican administration?
Oh yeah, because it is!
- kemp34, on 12/23/2008, -1/+58Why does KBR hate our troops who have a sworn oath to uphold and defend the Constitution?
- sarahlee, on 12/23/2008, -1/+48FTA: "CBS has obtained documents which indicate that KBR knew about the danger months before the soldiers were informed. KBR employee depositions show there were "concerns about the toxins in one part of the plant as early as May of 2003," while later minutes detail symptoms of exposure, including bloody noses and rashes.
"It wasn't until the end of August that the Indiana National Guardsmen were informed that the plant was contaminated, and some say they have only just learned about it this year."
Damn It - It isn't like these soldiers and their families are not going through enough already. - booksnmore4you, on 12/23/2008, -2/+48But...but...but it would have cut into the company's PROFITS to make things safe!
All Hail Almighty Dollar! All Hail Almighty Dollar! All Hail Almighty Dollar! - humanstruggle, on 12/23/2008, -2/+45PROSECUTE NOW!!!!!
CHENEY....HALLIBURTON....KBR
NO MERCY!!!!!! - PoizonFrog, on 12/23/2008, -2/+42I don't envy Obama his job, he really stepped into a pile of poop. Nonetheless, it is his job and I expect him and congress to deal with the many abuses that occurred under Bush and Cheney. If they fail, I can no longer consider this government to be true to the principles of our nation...
If they can prosecute Clinton for a friggin blow job, they damn well better prosecute this... - Alheithinn, on 12/23/2008, -2/+29This is got to be the biggest non-surprise of the year. Yeah, Clinton at least didn't violate the Constitution, just his marriage vows, and that's not an impeachment offense but something between husband and wife. We have some serious problems in this country, some very skewed values.
- freedomjoe, on 12/23/2008, -0/+22Journalists doing investigative work?
What country is this? Are they allowed to do that? didn't they get their TPM from the WH in time???
Good Old George, just doin' a favor for a friend. vote for George cuz he's so damn down home and just the kinda guy you want to have a beer with, and maybe kill a few thousand people. Yup. don't change horses in mid-stream....
OMG I can't believe we are done with him. - GovernmentSp00k, on 12/24/2008, -2/+21Watch 'Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers" by Robert Greenwald http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-662148672 ...
Why can’t we Americans get rid of those scumbags at the top of the food chain? And end their little war profiteering gig. As long as we (the world) keep allowing them to continue manipulating us nothing will change.
A corporation is going to put human needs at the bottom if it conflicts with profit. They are willing to sacrifice people for the "bottom line". In turn, we are sold massive lies and deceit to keep the whole scheme afloat. - GovernmentSp00k, on 12/24/2008, -0/+19These are the same creatures that turn around and say "Support the troops."..
- inactive, on 12/23/2008, -4/+21Cheney/Halliburton are treasonous filth, complicit in allowing 9/11 to proceed on purpose!!!
- normlsparky, on 12/24/2008, -0/+17Because it interferes with their ability to profit.
- greenfyre, on 12/23/2008, -2/+16More like made Cpt of the Titanic after it hit the berg, but that's way better than the idiot who ran into it in the first place.
- GovernmentSp00k, on 12/24/2008, -3/+16The left right paradigm is fake.
Republican, Democrat, make ZERO difference any more. They're 2 wings of the same bird.
A divide & conquer mechanism. To insure we remain confused and distracted, our energies diverted elsewhere. Keep us separated, fighting amongst ourselves over non-issues and petty, meaningless bull *****. While they take over to rule the serfs. They tag team us and they run nothing. Both false paradigms sell us all out and ***** us over just the same. They work for a global syndicate of mobsters that are ruthless, powerful, and have "one world government" as their crowning goal.
"Party affiliation" is merely a marketing sound bite to sell the plan.
Both 'left' and 'right' partisans ultimately share the same agenda: to prop up the establishment and misdirect people from real issues.
A united populace, awake to the lies & fraud we've all been sold, is the charlatan deceivers BIGGEST fear. They will do anything to maintain + remain control. "Leftwing" "right-wing" ***** doesn't matter anymore. They're all puppets controlled by same Owners pulling the strings. The sell-outs don't work for "US" as in 'we the people". Never have, never will. That is merely illusion to be propped up. It has become clearer now more than ever in history.
Makes no difference who the puppet is, the hand is the same...
Sometimes we don't even need to hear what is on the controlled "news".. we are being spoon fed of what they think we should believe in.
America is controlled by what the government wants you to think. They tell you through the media. The media is controlled by the same big family that profits from war.
Americas predicament is way past the mind-numbing ***** of this is "left" or "right" or meaningless "conservative vs liberal" garbage. America is under a domestic fascist assault. - bugsy187, on 12/24/2008, -0/+11Incredible. This is the company Bush and co. gave a blank check to. This is absolutely criminal.
- normlsparky, on 12/24/2008, -0/+10KBR would be foolish to skimp on the cost of food, or the cost of anything for that matter. They operate on a cost plus scheme. They are reimbursed for their cost, plus a percentage tacked on for profit. The more they spend, the bigger that percentage included for profit is.
That's why their hired guns make so much more than active duty military personnel, why they run trucks around Iraq empty, and why the war is costing us so ***** much money every day. - ordig, on 12/23/2008, -2/+12DRAWN AND QUARTERED ON LIVE TV!!!!
- Olfster, on 12/24/2008, -0/+10I can see Cheney with that ***** eating grin sitting next to his Christmas tree and counting his his share of the money.
- JenniferInMO, on 12/24/2008, -2/+9I can't handle the blood. How about on radio instead of TV?
- GovernmentSp00k, on 12/24/2008, -2/+9http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chXjCtkymRQ
- azhura, on 12/24/2008, -0/+6Yeah, wtf was with that?? Clinton lied under oath about a blow job, but he didn't torture people, didn't sell out his own CIA operatives, and didn't lie to the American public about the reasons to invade another country! Are people so ***** up in this country that they want to politically lynch someone for what should be a personal matter but completely ignore crimes against humanity and fraud on a massive scale?
It seriously scares me to think about it and I pray to God that people ***** WAKE UP to reality. This isn't a goddamn soap opera where the most important thing to follow is who is sleeping with whom. Get your priorities straight and face up to the truth that what Clinton did was by no means even close to what Bush has done. People who even dare to compare the two should be bitch-slapped. I volunteer to do it. - normlsparky, on 12/24/2008, -0/+6Bush must be too busy issuing pardons to be bothered with the memo.
- Zenham, on 12/24/2008, -0/+5IIRC the average F&B cost for a soldier in Iraq was around $100 a day (KBR provisioned), compared to $4 a day for a soldier stationed in the U.S. (Army provisioned). Just googled now and had trouble finding the KBR numbers again, so I can stand to be corrected on this.
- booksnmore4you, on 12/23/2008, -8/+13You lose your argument but painting a one-colored canvas.
- roddack, on 12/24/2008, -4/+9Only a fool thinks the democrats are any better than the republicans. Looking at each party you will find that both in the end support a larger government and a continuation of the welfare/warfare state.
- roddack, on 12/24/2008, -1/+6......Really? I am pretty sure the whole Bosnia incident had no constitutional backing. Nor did 1/2 the things he signed into law.
Quit looking through rose colored glasses. - swrostmore, on 12/24/2008, -0/+5I seem to recall a few people were pretty upset about Vietnam.
- ren1999, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4Let the prosecutions begin. It has been 7 years of strong-arming our legal branch. Now it is time to break free of this strangle-hold by the Bush Family and begin some real oversight. Kellogg Brown Root is not above the law. Furthermore, don't eat their stuff.
- azhura, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4And they aren't going to get the medical coverage that they need in order to reverse the side-effects from the contamination. They'll get some ***** VA hospital treatment and a whole bunch of prescriptions that will not be covered by their insurance.
- Mujokan, on 12/24/2008, -1/+5As I recall they can't even really fine them for anything like this, or the electrocuting showers, or gouging on the price of gasoline from Kuwait, or all the money that went missing, because they just threaten to pack up and go home, and they are still needed for all the logistics.
- skittlez1, on 12/24/2008, -11/+15Republican? Democrat? It's all the same.
Your government will do this to it's own people. Realize this.
Ask why. Figure it out without any influence. - aaron755, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4Here's the Boston Globe investigation, which ran last December and in March, on this very topic...CBS did a good job picking it up: http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/03 ... ... Here's The Raw Story pickup of that same Globe article: http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Halliburton_subsidia ...
- Izult, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4and if you haven't noticed by the comments here.... what their doing is obviously working. People are still spewing hate from both sides for each other with out actually pausing to apply some critical thinking skills.
- pintomp3, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4the only thing running through cheney's veins are the tears of iraqi orphans.
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+4"They operate on a cost plus scheme."
Exactly. And yet somehow, clueless Diggers managed to call THAT cozy, can't-lose arrangement "capitalism." Economics 101, folks. Clues are free, and all over the interwebs, about what capitalism is & ain't, and it ain't Halliburton. - roddack, on 12/24/2008, -0/+4the vast majority of people on the planet don't give two ***** what happens somewhere else in the world. Unless something has an obvious effect on our life we just don't care.
Out of sight out of mind. - inactive, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3they deserve a kick on the ass
- LenBaird, on 12/24/2008, -3/+6The blowjob incident was peanuts compared to the real crimes he committed. I agree, the blowjob controversy was stupid.
- baramunchies, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3the whole iraq is contaminated by uranium ammunition. i expect a lot more stories like this over the next couple of years. well it's probably only iraq civilians, so nobody cares.
- BohicaTwentyTwo, on 12/24/2008, -1/+4The whole Middle East is a toxic waste dump.
- mark076h, on 12/24/2008, -5/+8Anyone that has been to Iraq knows at least one thing about KBR, they have some badass chow halls! in the Marine Corps we always asked the question why cant we get the food they serve in those nice chow halls in Iraq in the States instead of the ***** prison food.
- dontlookleft, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3They're already fighting a GD war that no one, including the troops, support.
(I support our troops not the f*cking war)
Then dick bag Dick eff's them over even more. After this term, can we make a line to punch this whole administration in the face? - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -1/+4Actual capitalism, even under a government contract, would involve formally advertised sealed bids, not no-bid cost-plus contracts. The reflexive hate for capitalism on Digg is disturbing in its cluelessness. I try to help, but I'm only one greedy capitalist with a clue. Please, others, get clues before you comment.
- pintomp3, on 12/24/2008, -5/+8god bless capitalism.
- kareemachan, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3Dang, KBR has really diversified. My husband worked for Brown & Root a couple of decades back, and then they did hydrological surveying for oil and gas.
- rynsa, on 12/24/2008, -2/+5Yes. But some tools are slightly more fascist than others.
- roddack, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD
SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE. - kareemachan, on 12/24/2008, -1/+3Much, much more.
- omgwtflawl, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2Well, technically it already should have happened, correct? I mean, the Iran-Iraq war was in the 80s and I'm sure they expended tons of DU munitions in that war.
- Phocion55, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2Where was this outrage when our troops were exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam?
