- mghwom1, on 03/04/2009, -1/+185We need to blur our California lawmakers.
- nmezib, on 03/04/2009, -0/+150Yes, because there were absolutely no acts of terrorism anywhere before google maps and street view came along.
- BlindingDawn, on 03/04/2009, -0/+123FTA:
"All I'm trying to do is stop terrorists," Anderson told the AP. "I don't want California to be helping map out future targets for terrorists."
Someone needs to stop watching TV
Actual bill
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/pub/09-10/bill/asm/ab_02 ... - piratearggghhh, on 03/05/2009, -0/+81This doesn't do ***** to stop terrorism.
- bonj, on 03/04/2009, -1/+77Wouldn't this law make it easier for the terrorists?
"HEY GUYS LETS TARGET ALL THOSE BLURS" - twiztidsinz, on 03/05/2009, -0/+46$250,000/day that they leave it up?
Looks like they're trying to get Google to bail the state out. - mauigreen, on 03/05/2009, -0/+42what a load of crap! i use this for work...my California lawmakers are morons
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -0/+42Yes...while at it why not blur out the whole country? your gonna see a big blurry blob were the US should be on google map, success! the terrorist can't find it no more!
- jefree, on 03/05/2009, -0/+38How do idiots like this get elected??
- hollywoodphony, on 03/05/2009, -1/+38I don't think this bill goes far enough. We need to ban all forms of maps. Computer maps, paper maps and especially maps in things like planes and helicopters. Aircraft are often loaded up with highly combustible fuels. They are basically flying bombs. Think how hard it would have been for 9/11 to happen if the terrorists couldn't find the World Trade Center.
- pradaaddict, on 03/05/2009, -0/+30I'm sure if a Terrorist was motivated enough to attack one of those buildings they would map it out in person beforehand or even obtain the blueprints from the building permit that City Halls usually keeps and sometimes sells to people. Not seeing where the A/C Units are placed on the roof of a building isn't going to stop them.
- GezusK, on 03/05/2009, -0/+23Its seems that some people have missed the point of your post and are burying you. Fellow diggers, he's pointing out that terrorists were attacking just fine before Google maps came along.
Not having Google maps doesn't stop anything...you just buy a paper map...OR...maybe even drive by and check it out. It'd be like banning white envelopes because someone sent anthrax in one. As if nothing else would have worked for that purpose. - toxictonic, on 03/05/2009, -1/+24Ban maps! We wouldn't want any terrorists, or anyone, to be able to get around the country, or know where anything is.
- directrix13, on 03/05/2009, -2/+24Sounds like they legalized cannibas earlier than expected.
- bremstrong, on 03/05/2009, -0/+20We should ban all cameras and ban people from leaving their homes as well.
Enough with these half-way measures. - Pseudorious, on 03/04/2009, -0/+19Imaginative tax scheme. Desperate times and all that.
- Chris_F, on 03/05/2009, -0/+19Damn. Google maps is where I get all my aerial reconnaissance every time I infiltrate and destroy military installations.
Damn. Looks like I'm out of a job. - pointsguy, on 03/05/2009, -0/+19Can i get an order of "fewer laws"
- Shadic, on 03/05/2009, -0/+19Oooh! If we had thought to ban hijacking!
- tecknical, on 03/05/2009, -4/+22buried for the stupidity of lawmakers
- mark076h, on 03/04/2009, -0/+18So with this news any terrorists planning an attack should just save the images while they can?
- anubis2night, on 03/05/2009, -8/+25Figures it's a republican, is there any more rights they want to take from us?
It's time for the internet to let him know how we feel about this:
http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/77/default.aspx?p=add ... - JDoorjam, on 03/05/2009, -0/+17Idiot voters.
- tglas, on 03/05/2009, -1/+18Terrorists: 1, Constitution: 0
- tritecool, on 03/05/2009, -0/+15"Note to self" change terrorist attack to blurred areas of Google maps.
- theneweddie, on 03/05/2009, -0/+14just more taxpayer money squandered on stupid *****.
- twiztidsinz, on 03/05/2009, -0/+13We should also eliminate the tracking of Planes....
They might be hijacked right out of the sky... I saw it in a movie. - yunus, on 03/05/2009, -0/+13Californian's can't pay enough taxes so lets have Google pay them for us.
- angrykeyboarder, on 03/05/2009, -4/+17WTF?
- RandomRage, on 03/05/2009, -0/+13Dugg so people can know about the stupidity of lawmakers.
- twiztidsinz, on 03/05/2009, -2/+14You mean Professor Bill Ayers from the University of Illinois at Chicago?
Do yourself a favor.. GET THE ***** OVER IT. - ScienceDoc, on 03/05/2009, -0/+12This is as dumb as Jindal and his making fun of monitoring volcanoes. This is frickin' ignorant.
- DirtyVicar, on 03/05/2009, -1/+12What terrorists?
Don't feed the culture of fear, Mr. Anderson.
"Assemblyman Joel Anderson, a Republican, crafted the bill after it was revealed that terrorists in Israel and Mumbai used popular mapping programs to help plot their attacks."
"It was revealed"? We should accept that at face value? And I bet the terrorists drank bottled water while planning these attacks, so we should most definitely ban bottled water. - GTanaka, on 03/05/2009, -0/+11Note that the bill also demands the removal of Street View from all required buildings. Talk about BS.
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -1/+12Neither did invading Iraq or Afghanistan.
But common sense doesn't always prevail. - kayfouroh, on 03/05/2009, -0/+11"If you have nothing to hide, there's nothing to worry about"
/s - AgentX640, on 03/05/2009, -0/+11***** need to stop worrying about google earth and start worrying about our bankrupt state.
- JDoorjam, on 03/05/2009, -2/+12Don't waste time making this a red vs. blue thing. Stupidity is non-partisan.
Also, if you want to leave your opinion with his office, the link above will give you the contact info for his offices, but this is how you actually leave feedback: http://arc.asm.ca.gov/member/77/default.aspx?p=opi ... - rhodydog, on 03/05/2009, -0/+10No, all they have to do is look for the blurry bits and they have the targets. Making parts of a map blurry is like putting a big "x" marks the spot.
- inactive, on 03/05/2009, -0/+10bin laden uses google maps LOL...
better use it to track him down than gaussian blur all the pictures on the internet - ryan83189, on 03/05/2009, -0/+9Why not build a fake US and have them destroy it, ala Blazing Saddles, toll booth and all?
- Nerys, on 03/05/2009, -1/+10I especially have a problem with the government military buildings part. The government is an EMPLOYEE of the people and has ZERO right to privacy or secrecy. Its quite literally unconstitutional as far as I am concerned.
Hopefully this will get shot down and shot down fast.
all google has to do is have no offices in California making the law moot and they apply EXTRA high quality sat imagery for all of California. - dakdak900, on 03/05/2009, -0/+9WTF like California doesn't have enough real things to worry about, a $10 billion budget shortfall, 10% unemployment, crashing home prices, mortgage crisis, and drought; shoot this bill down and get to work on real things!
- kaaBOOM, on 03/05/2009, -0/+9"the law would only apply in CA... all google has to do is locate their map servers elsewhere"
Unfortunately Google and their servers are headquartered in CA, and I don't think they have any plans to move soon. And it doesn't look to me like the law would exempt them if they did. This is just a blatant attempt to censor the internet, like China does. - Ajajadude, on 03/05/2009, -0/+8***** it, just blind everybody on the planet. It'd make it hard for anyone to blow anything up if they can't see *****!
- jacobfingrocks, on 03/05/2009, -22/+30Hmmmm....
2005---Google Maps is put online...

- dalittle, on 03/05/2009, -0/+8Everyone should blur California Assemblyman Joel Anderson's name in all publications and documents to make sure he is safe from terrorists
