- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80The only propoganda here is coming from thinkprogress.
It's COMMON practice to put up signs in the state the president is from, as well as COMMON practice to take them down after he leaves office.
I am from Texas and I do_not_like_Bush.
However, what I hate more, is that sites like thinkprogress, rawstory, etc scream all day long about how the administration is spinning anything and everything, and then they just turn around and do it themselves on almost a daily basis.
Seriously, this guy has done enough wrong that nobody has to spin ANYTHING to make him look bad. To me they just look pathetic when they really reach like this.
Pot, meet Kettle. - chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -8/+74They did the same with Clinton in Arkansas. It is not so much propaganda as it is removing the "current president" aspect of the signs. Since he will no longer the President, they can't call it the "home of President Bush". This is common; you don't still see signs in Texas claiming to be the "home of President Johnson". The signs around Bush's ranch will be updated to say "Former President Bush" much like the signs in Hope and Hot Springs still promote Clinton.
- HarryManback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29I think that's a common practice. I live in Memphis and when Clinton was president there was a "Home of President Bill Clinton" on the Welcome to Arkansas sign crossing the Mississippi River bridge. After he left office, it was taken down.
- bronstad, on 10/12/2007, -10/+37former presidents are still referred to as "President", so the sign would not be inaccurate after bush leaves office
- jrefenes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Are you people really that blind and stupid?
This is a common practice with pretty much EVERY President that's been in office. Notice how it's not coming down until AFTER Bush's Presidency is over. The same was done for Bill Clinton in Arkansas. - Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Digg seems to be a little obsessed with posting numbers these days.
- Hensworth, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Our good boy Dubya's home may be Texas but George W. Bush's home is Connecticut.
- cwilli14, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17we need more cowbell.
- IslandDog, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20Another ridiculous anti-Bush story.
- tituspullo71, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13they did the same thing for Johnson and the elder Bush once they left office. this is nothing new, nothing to see here move along old news. get a life.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Yeah... high school in Andover, Mass and college at Yale and Harvard makes for a real well rounded Texas education.
- Alconis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16He wasn't even Texan to begin with.
- kinesis8, on 10/12/2007, -26/+35Can't blame 'em for being embarassed...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Why are you posting the # to Pelosi's office? Do you suggest we call her and demand she do something to make sure Bush's name stays on the signs?
- Psyael, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8They're jumping the gun a bit. It moves to the Texas Senate next, it's not law yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Why this comment is being dugg down is beyond me..
- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@Bronstad
They are referred to as "Former President X", although calling them President is still acceptable. My point is, what other states kept up their signs after the President left office. Is Reagan's picture still adorning California? JFK still in Massachusetts? You will still have the signs around the points of interest, but not statewide. - tituspullo71, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8and HILARY really is from NEW YORK.
- jsballardx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I'm not embarrassed because the ***** is not from Texas.
Connecticut anyone?
His "I'm a regular Joe from everymanland in Crawford, Texas" is a bunch of BS that was used to make him appeal to everyone that isn't a blue blood from the northeast. - loki440, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@robbh66
Right on! Crooks and Liar, Thinkprogress, et.al. have really been going overboard lately on the anti-Administration spin. Just like you said, Bush has done so much to engender ill will in this country that spinning stories against him is totally unnecessary. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Because he's a Texan with roots in CT...
And FWIW this isn't the same CT he was born into, CT used to be the greatest state in the nation. It's a far cry from that now. - techwrekfix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6He's not from Texas. He's just like every other ***** hole that comes to Texas and thinks because he owns some land and some cows that he's a true Texan. If you weren't born here your not a Texan. All he's doing is ***** up Texas for the people that were born here. I didn't veto for him, didn't support him, and wish he would sell his land, pack up his ***** and get out of my state.
- ornellasm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Oh, you can get Texan educations at Yale now?
edit: beaten :( - 10mod3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4HarryManback has it right. When he's not the President anymore, it doesn't make sense to have a sign that says "Proud Home of President George W. Bush." If they wanted to they could make a sign that said "Home of George W. Bush, 43rd President" or something like that.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Not sure why this is news. Ever driven into Texas? Yeah they don't list Eisenhower (the only good Texan president), Johnson and Bush 41 on the signs either.
- michaelb1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Maybe he will be welcome back up north in Connecticut where he was born.
- abajaj2280, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wasnt he from connecticut
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5buried for sensationism. They do this for every president, has nothing to do with Bush.
- Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Calm down. Take a deep breath. Collect your thoughts. The US got through the Civil War, maybe we'll make it through this.
- ichbinladen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good riddance! That sign is just one more thing we Texans have to be embarrassed about.
- daveseibert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Man, with everyone posting this number I'm starting to feel like calling it.
PSYCH. Get a life. - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Jcm is right. It should go "Worst. President. Ever".
- tsf5000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4As a native Texan, unlike the president, this pleases me very much.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Quit posting this *****!
Whenever someone posts a think progress URL into the submit story page Digg needs to bring up a message that says "Thanks, it looks like your story has alreadybeen buried." - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3^Another ridiculous pro-Bush comment.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"state Rep. Ken Paxton [yesterday] passed a bill"
Wow, all it takes in Texas is One Rep to pass a bill? Shouldn't it say "state Rep Ken Paxton's bill passed"? - billizm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Glad to see my tax money is going to noble use, such as passing bills like this. yea...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4even Texas is embarrassed
- cywar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I just want everyone to know once and for all==> He is not a Texan.
He actually said once that he was raised in the Desert, maybe he is really from Saudi Arabia.
That would explain a lot. - ChromaVita, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why can't you paint a turd?
- xSEED, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah i'm not from the south bro and sis marriages are an all american thing
- vguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't Mess with Texas...
Or we'll elect another idiot president! - ChumpChief, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2OH SNAP!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well, if you leave, it'll one less thing the rest of us will have to be embarrassed about.
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I, for one, will hang the sign that Bush was my President outside my house. !!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Drink your tea, eat your crumpets, and shut the ***** up.
- kirtap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I always laugh about this, I see it every time I pass through Toledo Bend.
Thank god. - youngandwise, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I like "Home of George W. Bush, Worst President EVER" more
- sidsarkar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Doesn't really matter, the damage has already been done. You Yanks do whatever you want with that douche bag, but just make sure you send him over to the international court of justice at The Hague or to Baghdad to be tried for mass murder.
- loganhid, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6lets remove him from the whole country
