- Ulisses, on 10/12/2007, -5/+78Dear Americans,
You've the laughing stock of the world.
Yours truly,
Everyone else. - ruminate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+55The worst part of the story is that the President did not even watch Gonzales' testimony. I do not see how Bush can be so obtuse. He puts his confidence in idiots or brown nosers without regard to their qualifications, and we the people suffer for it. My God he put a veterinarian in charge of women's health and an avid pro-life guy over family planning. I can not wait for 2008!
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+55He's not obtuse. Gonzales' job is to prevent Bush or any of his friends from going to jail. And by stonewalling and lying to Congress, he's proved he's more than up to the task.
Congress has few options, unfortunately, except to defund the DOJ. But fine, forget Gonzales and let's concentrate on impeaching Cheney and then Bush. - Ulisses, on 10/12/2007, -1/+35***** I wish I'd have proof-read that.
- darkbytes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23It's George Bush, people. George. Bush. How does any of this still surprise you?
- dylanmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19/sigh
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19My favourite part about Alberto Gonzales is that he went on the record saying that the U.S. constitution does not guarantee its citizens the right to habeas corpus and he's the number 1 prosecutor for all of the U.S.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY5BwMjpUOI - ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19gonzalez' job is very simple
hes a fall guy
he is doing his job (according to bush) by being an incompetent tool
on top of that he makes the others look better,or worse for hiring them which ever way you choose to look at it.
I choose the latter - Verchiel77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17"We must always ask ourself not only what is legal, but what is right. There is no goal of government worth accomplishing if it cannot be accomplished with integrity." -- George W. Bush, 10.15.2001

"Yer doin' a good job there Gonzy." - inv1c7u5, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW THE F*** HE ACTUALLY BECAME PRESIDENT??
oh yeah, the south.
LOL - disposition0010, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14What sickened me was "as far as the White House was concerned, the public was not paying much attention to the debate over Mr. Gonzales and that there was “a disconnect” between what he termed Washington’s fascination with the issue and the public’s interest in it."
It's like the blind leading the blind. Yes we do care that the man who is supposed to be the head of US Law is either breaking laws and hiding it or too incompetent to remember it. With either situation he is not (and was not) the man for the job. - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13He did a heckuva job testifyin'... a heckuva job!
Hmmm, when else have I heard Bush praising an incompetent cronie who then immediately afterward got the axe? - rainbowjinjo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13What. The. *****.
- MSF2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Well of course it has; Gonzales has proved that he can lie and avoid saying anything meaningful during an investigation. That's the most important quality for a member of the Bush Administration to have since it seams like there are more scandals everyday now.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11hey, any guy that can say "I can't recall" that many times under oath is someone the President wants on his team.
- Hentez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That makes perfect sense, everything else is backwards in that administration
- boelder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Worst President ever.
- tech42er, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Slate had an interesting piece on why Bush may have liked Gonzales's testimony: because Gonzales tried to show that the executive branch is superior to and not subject to Congress, which is part of Bush's Theory of the Unitary Executive. Check it out: http://www.slate.com/id/2164751/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8"But Clinton....."
It is just the standard "Red Stater/Good Bushie" response to any criticisms of Bush. Just thought I would throw it out. - Blakovitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6In case you guys missed it, here's Jon Stewart tearing Gonzales a new one (metaphorically):
http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload/index.jhtml?ml_video=85561
This also explains why Bush's increased confidence SHOULD be shocking.
P.S. Comedy Central's Motherload rapes my eyes with its ads and user interface, but at least they have the video... - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Gonzales' use of the "I don't recall" line was perhaps the most pathetic testimony to ever taint the Capitol. So, when I read what the Presidents response was I have come to the only logical, rational conclusion one can make. This President is no longer mentally fit to carry out his duties. The only option that Congress can act upon is to exercise their authority and remove him from office immediately. Anything less is a failure of their duty and totally unacceptable.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Am I the only one having a dream where Cheney, Bush, Rove, Gonzalez, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Ashcroft, Rice, Chertoff, Bolton, DeLay, and any spare pedophile Congressmen around all get sent to Abu Graib for a free vacation at public expense?
Oh, and Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and most FOX commentators. And the CEO of Halliburton for giving our troops contaminated water, and overcharging for it. And Bernanke for lying about the US economy statistics and for ruining the US dollar. And Abrahamoff for being a lying sack.
It's a start, but not nearly enough. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hekuva Job
- ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6what no one can get a joke??
tyrannysucks can - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Constitution doesn't grant an explicit right not to be tortured...after all, "cruel and unusual punishment" only applies to *punishment*, whereas torture is either to gain information or for the fun of it. OMFG, Gonzales better not be reading this or he'll be quoting it before the Senate.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Let's use Mr. Gonzale's 'tactic' to get out of a parking ticket:
Judge: "Are you aware of the time you parked your car on the street?"
Parking ticket recipient: "I do not recall."
Judge: "Well did you read the sign stating you could only be parked for 2hrs?"
Parking ticket recipient: "I apologize, but I do not recall reading the sign."
Judge: "Well Ignorance of the law is still no excuse, pay your ticket!!!"
I guess its Mr. Gonzales is the only one privileged with these special powers to "Not Recall". - ganjadude4391, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11other than the grammar problems... ;)
your right
we apologize for our leaders - mitzip, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@inv1c7u5
Actually if you measure votes by county in the 2004 election more voted for bush in the north.
BTW: Bush isn't Texan, he's a carpetbagging HS cheerleader from Connecticut.
As a Texan, I say he gives Texans a horrible name. We're not all alcoholic yankee cheerleaders who do the bidding of international bankers bent on world domination. I promise!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush - Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It does explain Bush's opinion on the war.
Failure is success! Incompetent is qualified! Ignorance is expertise!
And, as always, he's doin' a heckuvajob! - jjed824, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4...wasn't nearly as bad?
I don't see your point. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The president thinks Gonzales is doing a heckuva job!!!
Remember Browney's heckuva job performance... I think its time we tell the pres he is doing a heckuva job and show him the door!!! - Comatose51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Well, let's see if a dose of his own medicine will help with his memory...
- Fredtheviking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Bush said something stupid... hmmm... I don't see how this is news worthy. Move along people nothing new to see here.
- ren1999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales was asked to fire all of the prosecuting attorneys (90 people) at the beginning of Bush's second term so that Bush loyalists could be appointed. However, there would have been a big backlash if anyone had noticed. Which the White House staff was hoping nobody would notice. Admission of those facts was noted at the beginning of this investigation. Now we are just focusing on the unfair firing of the 8 most prominent prosecutors. The White House will continue to stonewall and ignore the inquiry until it goes away. The White House continues to ignore the wishes of Congress and the American people.
It is time for true Republicans and Democrats to stand together and continue to push the removal of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales. - dadavexx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What do you know,
Fool has confidence in another fool !
Will Wonders ever cease !
Impeach King George the Turd ! - nkwell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not surprised by this, since his job and his testimony are showing off his ability to dodge questions, and confuse people. This seems to be a highly respected skill with the current administration.
- zunipus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This what you call DESPERATION. If at first your lie does not succeed, lie, lie again.
The Bush League are going down in history as the most pathetic idiots to ever rule the executive branch of the USA. - yuutomo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that says how fascists and dictatorial the goverments become. I mean we're repeating all the mistakes Germany made after WWI.
- kidford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Bush's comments make me wonder what his concept of Gonzales' job really is. I can't shake the feeling that Bush believes that the position of Attorney General was created so the President and his advisors could selectively enforce laws without repercussion.
- joseywales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Birds of a feather flock together."
Should anyone be surprised by this, seriously? I fail to understand what it takes to get impeached in today's U.S. society (mysleft included)! It's not only the remaining world population that has this consensus opinion about Bush, there's something to be said when the vast majority of the American public is in agreement. What must occur for him to be removed....seriously? - omgTHEPATRIOTS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yea i'm not sure i can continue to read this, my eyes are going to start bleeding
- laserblazer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Speaking of confidence, I think the English have it right: a call of No Confidence can fix this kind of *****.
Bush has earned ejection from his office time and time again. Something's got to give. - xGeneric, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"My God he put a veterinarian in charge of women's health and an avid pro-life guy over family planning."
Don't forget the Arabian Horse Judge he put in charge of FEMA. - hexodeci, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think its obvious to everyone his only job is to take the blame
- viet10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's cause theyre both good at *****.
- Kratisto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ever seen that Seinfeld where George does everything opposite of how he normally would do it and becomes really successful...
- GameMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The best part is how unconvincing he can be. I mean come on you can't remember anything? Gonzales must be more stoned than I am. So we're either putting our fate into the hands of a dangerous retard or a liar. Or both?
- HaySeuss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't recall what confidence in a politician means.
- AhmedB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know who the woman standing beside him in the picture is, but to me the expression on her face is "You sly bastard..."
