So that means not only does this all-important NSA spying program that he keeps trying to shove down our throats have nothing to do with a 'response' to terrorism on 9/11, it actually failed to prevent 9/11. I"m pretty sure the point of the program has more to do with executive power and the struggle Cheney has been in since his Nixon days and his attempt to turn the executive branch into the more powerful of the 3 branches. All of which is contrary to our constitution's original intent. Congress might try reading it every now and then.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -3/+21FTA: Rather than pursue Osama bin Laden in the mountains of Tora Bora, the administration dusted off pre-9/11 invasion plans for Iraq and diverted resources from Afghanistan to Iraq.
The invasion plans for Afghanistan were also drawn up pre-9/11:
May 7-24, 2001: Military Exercise Predicts War on Terror
http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/context.jsp?ite ... - thefirstenemy, on 10/14/2007, -2/+20Maybe if the Bush administration wasn't incompetent and paid attention to the red flags we might have prevented 9/11.
- hiphoc, on 10/14/2007, -1/+12Righto!!! Every phone call, fax, email and wire message has been recorded by the NSA. This has been going on since president Clinton was in office. But now they can tell us about it and say it was for terror so it can be legit. It is wrong and illegal. But it is basically Project Echelon. 9/11 is being used as a way to let people know you are being watched. Many of these congress people new about echelon. So know they have to act surprised. Lets see if Olbermann or Fox picks up on Echelon. I bet they wont.
Google: Project Echelon and TEMPEST
With Echelon, the US, UK, Canada, Aussies and 1 other country I cant remember, spy on the others communications of the partner countries then swap the information. Technically you cant spy on your own citizens. So Lets say we spy on the UK communications then we let the UK spy on our communications. This gets around silly things like Laws. Tempest is a satellite system that uses the electrical wiring in your house to create a virtual image of whats happening in your house. So basically see through the walls of your house. Kid you not, this was in a Popular Mechanics magazine from 4/01. I was cleaning up and found it a about a year ago. I almost crapped my pants. - brentris, on 10/14/2007, -2/+13Ya, i'd rather have a shadow government take away my civil liberties and be able to monitor me all the time.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -8/+18Excuse me? HE's a spammer? You are spamming this place with extreme-right hate-mongering all the time.
- Bb8526, on 10/14/2007, -2/+12Bush's justifications for almost everything is tainted by a hidden agenda.
- hiphoc, on 10/14/2007, -2/+10This is not a "But Clinton did it" concept. Its the concept that he structure of oppresion and spying has been going on for many years. Terror is being used as an excuse to show the spying and torturing by the CIA, NSA and other alphabet agencies. This stuff has been going on for years. So that is the message that needs to get out.
- HigherLogic, on 10/14/2007, -1/+7Wow, you guys really can bring "but Clinton did it" into anything. That's incredible.
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/14/2007, -0/+6Not that I am very surprised, but I haven't seen this on fox, cnn or nbc news yet. Has anyone else?
- byrdgang, on 10/15/2007, -1/+6I couldn't believe this myself when I read it. Since it was before 9/11, the administration had absolutely no justification for conducting warrantless wiretapping. I can't believe Bush's supporters always are quick to mention that the government is spying on terrorists. First of all, if they were truly spying on terrorists, they would have known about 9/11. Second, why are we so sure to believe the government when it says it is spying on terrorists? How do we know they aren't spying on us?
1984, 'nuff said. - KPLL, on 10/15/2007, -0/+4Before 9/11, or even after, WARANTLESS wiretapping is wrong. Especially keeping in mind that in emergency situations, the warrant can come afterwards.
- daizaru, on 10/14/2007, -1/+5Yikes, that's a scary thought and only makes 9/11 conspiracy theories sound a touch more credible even.
- sharpfork, on 10/14/2007, -1/+5Don't feed the GOP over USA troll...
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -3/+7Since no one else will say it, I will.
YOU CANNOT PUT A PRICE OF FREEDOM. IT WOULD NOT BE WORTH GIVING UP EVEN IF IT SAVED 500,000 LIVES. - consonance, on 10/14/2007, -1/+59/11 changed everything, and by everything I mean the excuse the administration uses for spying on us.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -2/+5How much more evidence do you idiots need before you believe that the SOB did 9/11?! Are you waiting for a signed confession?!!! Look at the evidence!!
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -2/+5as much as that may be true on the ground, a bunch of rednecks with guns on planes is not a comfortable though for me.
i head decompression isnt so much fun. - inactive, on 10/15/2007, -0/+3A$$hole, check. Follow the crowd, check. Believe everything you're told, Checkmate.
- zanzzz, on 10/14/2007, -0/+3Tear up the Constitution the minute a crisis arises. With deep thinkers like you around we would have had a police state before we even had a country.
- wakananda, on 10/14/2007, -2/+5The problem isn't Bush v. Clinton, or democats v. republicans. It's about the Constitution, i.e., the rule of law, v. a corporate fascist state and it's war on it's own citizens.
- shaitanx, on 10/14/2007, -1/+4Get bent.
- chase001, on 10/14/2007, -1/+4More proof for Impeachment that unfortunately isn't going to get used by the current leadership in Congress. What's sad is this Lawless Executive deserves to be Impeached more than any other President in history but the Dems can't do it because they don't have the numbers and the Repugs will choose their party over their country and the Constitution.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2reported as spam since all you are doing is copy/pasting someone else's comment
- amsterdamordeth, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2LVVL posted this in the very first comment on the article. I think the neo-con bots are on repeat tonight.
- sharpfork, on 10/14/2007, -1/+3If I had to add a whining tone when reading any of these comments it would be your same old, tired "but but but CLINTON did it too."
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2The agenda is hidden in plain sight concealed by everyone's desire for something else. The man is a nazi. His father was a nazi, his grandfather financed Hitler. Do you think Skull & Bones is a daycare center? How much more obvious does it have to get before you will see truth instead of waiting for someone on TV to tell it to you?
- Jlaugh, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Echelon has been going on since the late 60's more like Johnson did it.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+2Stupid, stupid, stupid. Here's a clue.

- pushmouse, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Clinton's Echelon program? Echelon has been around since the late 1950's.
- stox, on 10/15/2007, -1/+2OK folks, I'll give you a big frickin' clue, this has been going on for a long, long time. The features to support this on voice traffic have existed in all 5ESS switches since the 1980's. They were affectionately known as the "fascist features" to developers. About time somebody caught up with it!
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1They will be even more credible after the next false-flag event that puts soldiers on every street corner, but it will be too late to believe by then.
- inactive, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1No, you're an idiot. Only basic powers of observation are necessary to see that which is plainly before one's face and only denial could conceal it.
- art42, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1Good idea. Then when someone doesn't get their drink fast...
- art42, on 10/14/2007, -0/+1The Pentagon has contingency plans for most, if not all, countries.
- chase001, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Didn't Barbara Bush say for the Katrina Refugees to eat cake?
"What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this (chuckle) – this is working very well for them." –Former First Lady Barbara Bush, on the hurricane evacuees at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 5, 2005 - BlacklabelSAR, on 10/14/2007, -1/+2Google: North American Union and stop being so smug

step 3. profit - zanzzz, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1Your theory was first espoused on "All In The Family" by Archie Bunker. He was explaining to Meathead how the way to prevent hijackings was for everyone on the plane to be packing heat.
- nfollmer, on 10/14/2007, -1/+1Where will you go, read hiphoc's comment, its more than just the US thats spying.
