No one who is incapable of admitting that the same things we tried Nazis for doing during WWII - waterboarding - is illegal torture is qualified to be the Attorney General.
No one who thinks the President can violate the law is qualified to be the person in charge of enforcing it. - arrogantprick, on 11/05/2007, -1/+81That's not how it works, Georgie Boy. You pick 'em, others confirm or deny them. If you get denied, you pick again.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+51Petulant ***** child.
- Lomstradamus, on 11/05/2007, -3/+45***** YOU BUSH!
- staxofmax, on 11/05/2007, -0/+37NO ATTORNEY GENERAL?!?! WHO IS GOING TO SUPPRESS OUR RIGHTS?!?!
- WakeUpToFreedom, on 11/05/2007, -0/+36oh god.....just knock me out until 2009
- ApokalypseNow, on 11/05/2007, -0/+34This is the same kind of choice as the elections in Missouri back in 2000, in the race for the governor's seat. The choices were John Ashcroft and a dead man.
Guess which won? - WNW3, on 11/05/2007, -0/+29I am totally comfortable with none at all. I can't remember the last Attorney General that wasn't a grade-A jackass.
- logicalnoise, on 11/05/2007, -0/+25As I remember it...The dead guy won.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/03/2007, -0/+24So is voting down his candidates if they don't pass muster with Congress. Don't like it? Go live somewhere that's ruled by a king.
- Dumbledorito, on 11/05/2007, -0/+20And had we known what Ashcroft was going to do next, we might have voted to keep him in MO to contain the damage.
However, in his defense, his actions in the hospital showed that even HE couldn't stomach everything Bush does. He might actually believe a little of that Bible he thumps so much. - bratpack8, on 11/05/2007, -0/+20Promises promises, Georgie Boy. If you are truly serious, I think we would all be glad not to have an AG who further trash the Constitution and destroy our liberties.
- totorototoro, on 11/05/2007, -1/+17Jesus, what a whiner.
- ApokalypseNow, on 11/03/2007, -0/+16The same King George who called The Constitution, the document he swore to uphold and protect, a "goddamn piece of paper"?
Naw, couldn't be! - Dumbledorito, on 11/03/2007, -0/+15He DOES do that. He's doing the political equivalent of holding his breath until someone says he doesn't have to eat his peas. He's showing a level of maturity that belies that whole "the grown-ups are in charge" baloney he and his handlers perpetuated.
Maybe he needs to see more of those "cooperation" segments from Sesame Street. - StarlessKnight, on 11/05/2007, -0/+13Why shouldn't he believe this is how things work? Bush gives an Ultimatum, Congress buckles. Ultimatum, buckle. Ultimatum, buckle. Ultimatum, buckle. And on, and on it goes. So, again, why shouldn't he feel like he can get anything he wants?
And no, it's not because Democrats are spineless. It's because Congress is rotten. - Dumbledorito, on 11/05/2007, -0/+12I know the GOP has made "compromise" a dirty word, but that's what you have to do when you don't have an overwhelming majority. Say what you will about politicians of old (and I'm talking Bob Dole era here), but they knew how to make deals and get something done on occasion without having all this "up or down," "with me or against me" foolishness.
- MacEnvy, on 11/07/2007, -1/+13It's nice when you can look at a username and immediately know it's okay to block, as there will never be a post worth reading from the eloquent and relevant "FULibs".
- galeninjapan, on 11/05/2007, -0/+11You dont want to vote? You could wake up with Bush 2.0
- UncleBadTouch, on 11/05/2007, -2/+12Is Bush a retarded person? I mean, seriously.
- Nougat, on 11/05/2007, -0/+10"Go fish."
- JigoroKano, on 11/05/2007, -0/+9Ashcroft was religiously eccentric, but the man had ***** morals. He actually persecuted real crime during his tenure.
- azprofessional, on 11/02/2007, -3/+12Thats right everybody, selective adherence to the constitution is a cherished right by Conservatives.
Stupid lefties, thinking you'd be able to count on full adherence to the constitution
***** idiots, where do you think this is? Some magical 'free' land? Dumbass lefties. - atheinostic, on 11/03/2007, -2/+11“If the Senate Judiciary Committee were to block Judge Mukasey on these [anti-torture] grounds, they would send a new standard for confirmation that could not be met by any responsible nominee for attorney general,” [Bush] said in a speech before the Heritage Foundation. “And that would guarantee that America would have no attorney general during this time of war.”

Sorry if reality is inconvenient for you guys. - robberry, on 11/06/2007, -0/+9You know, hydrodev, there's a lot of decaffeinated brands on the market that are just as tasty as the real thing.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 11/05/2007, -1/+910 Easy steps to Fascism; http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/51150/
He needs cronies to allow him to take over. The Democrats should do NOTHING Bush wants -- NOTHING. This man should be in the Hague, proving his innocence. - CrackyJSquirrel, on 11/05/2007, -0/+8The truly sad part. Either he doesn't really know how things works, and really thinks he doesn't have to give another choice for Attorney General if Mukasey get rejected, or he thinks we are all morons and believe that what he says is true. If he refuses to choose another nominee I am sure somehow it will be deferred to congress or Cheney.. And I don't think Cheney's nomination will fly, being that Satan is most likely busy right now making room for Bush and his cronies.
- kurttrail, on 11/05/2007, -1/+9Now if we could get rid of Cheney & Bush and have no President at all!
- hyperlexic, on 11/05/2007, -1/+9It's going to take us decades to fix the mess these guys have created.
- ponyfreak, on 11/05/2007, -2/+10he's a uniter, not a divider
- ApokalypseNow, on 11/02/2007, -0/+7A piece of paper, yes, that is a literal description of the physical object that is The Constitution, but it is inadequate for describing the content written on said paper.
Still, I take your humor in the spirit it was intended. Good show. - ApokalypseNow, on 11/05/2007, -0/+7Yeah - the dead guy scared the voters less than Ashcroft.
- pr0k, on 11/05/2007, -0/+7Write your senators please. DO NOT LET THIS STOOGE GET CONFIRMED!
- inactive, on 11/02/2007, -2/+9the noms are likely to be Hillary and Ghouliani...what's the point.
- Tuto, on 11/03/2007, -0/+7Doesn't have basically imply it here?
Just a few hours later, he warned about consequences of blocking the nomination. “If the Senate Judiciary Committee were to block Judge Mukasey on these grounds, they would send a new standard for confirmation that could not be met by any responsible nominee for attorney general,” he said in a speech before the Heritage Foundation. “And that would guarantee that America would have no attorney general during this time of war.”
Especially the last quote. - kurttrail, on 11/06/2007, -1/+8If by "case," you mean "brain," then I would say it's really time to stop resting it, and try using your brain for once in your life.
- Frostman3D, on 11/05/2007, -2/+8I'm a Republican, and I totally hate Bush. He needs to be impeeched! He's subverting our constitution, government, and setting us up so we'll be easier to control in the future.
***** BUSH! ***** HIM RAW! - Scienceisfun, on 11/02/2007, -0/+6So which one's the douche, and which one's the turd sandwich?
- azprofessional, on 11/02/2007, -1/+7"Ya, thats right I want this guy 'Rigthy *****' to be my uh, supreme lord of illegal doings, if you don't give it to me, then that role will fall to Cheney again, heh heh heh Tacos Rule"
- CannedMango, on 11/05/2007, -1/+6Remember how everything Bush said in his run up to the 2000 election was a complete fabrication? He has done nothing that he promised.
The biggest lie of all? I'll be a uniter, not a divider. - tuxerware, on 11/05/2007, -1/+6I'm sorry Mr bush but war hasn't been declared!
- ricree, on 11/02/2007, -0/+5I don't know, he's been doing an increasingly good job in uniting the country in dislike of his administration.
- aussiekevin, on 11/04/2007, -1/+6Douchebaggery is hardly unique to American voters. How much better than Bush was Blair? Or Howard?
- yarukizero, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5Wow. Please tell me you're being sarcastic with that last part. That the Nazis used it to torture people isn't enough of an indictment in itself? There was apparently a WWII Japanese officer who got 15 years of hard labor for waterboarding. Regardless, possibly misinterpreting what Nazis were convicted of does not amount to hating Jews.
- bemenaker, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5Why do we have a spoiled 3 year old as a president?
- chrisatwork, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5I think I would prefer this.
- StarlessKnight, on 11/02/2007, -1/+6Jesus was a liberal. Sorry, it's true. He challenged the authority of his time. Jesus is a grade-A jackass?
- obliviousfool, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Keisler
We have an acting Attorney General. Peter Keisler is apparently a co-founder of the Federalist Society. Remember when they fired those US Attorneys and replaced them mid-term? They were replaced with super-loyal members of the Federalist Society. This is kind of a back-door appointment, really. If Mukasey fails to get approved, this other guy may be in place for a while. I don't know what the rules are regarding the length an acting AG can serve. Every day we're getting into new territory as far as the corruption of the DoJ goes. - cramtod, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5If only it was that easy. Bush has a history of appointing his cronies in via recess appointment.
- Shigglyboo, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5time of war? we're not at war. war has to be declared.
