- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30how many people in Bush's own administation have to discent and say that Bush's plan (staying the course) is wrong before he'll admit that it's not going well over there. it's like every person at every level understands that iraq is a mess except for Bush, Chaney, Rummy, and Condi. It's pathetic. There is a limit between being stubborn and being retarded, and our leaders are retarded if they think it's going well over there.
- yakimushi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27You've done a helluva job, Bushie.
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -4/+26James Baker is a Liberal tool who has been masquerading as a Republican for years ...
Sorry I'm just trying to think of what the GOP talking points (lies) will be this time. - needles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20skyshock21:
The U.S. completely dismantled Iraqs army AND administration. Two really stupid mistakes and I doubt they were the only ones.
Don't ***** blame the Iraqis for this mess. It's repugnant that even saddam did a better job than you guys, thinking you can invade any country like it's nothing, like the lives of it's civilians is worth nothing.. - bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18@skyshock21:
Have you had a chance to read State of Denial yet? It very clearly outlines how virtually no postwar planning was done before the war, and the people in charge (such as Jay Garner) were constantly being fought by DoD and did not receive the resources or time necessary to do their job. The situation in Iraq now is directly related to jumping in feet-first without planning in 2003. Whether or not that is Bush's fault or the fault of those underneath him is up to you to decide for yourself (I personally think Rumsfeld is more to blame). - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15he made sure to blame Clinton, right?
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16whiskeymb, come on, you weren't convinced by Condi standing there in her flak jacket and helmet, waiting for the bombing to stop so they could land the plane, claiming progress was being made?
- funkpucker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14In his own words "I will not withdraw the troops even if Laura and Barney are the only ones supporting me." Barney is his dog. At least he has conviction....
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Yeah thats it, Clinton is to blame for Iraq, because he was president before Bush, thats the ticket.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I like how, without even mentioning his political leanings, kevin45 is automatically a LIB. Nice try moron.
- cypherp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Looks like even the loyalists are jumping ship.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14How does that have anything to do with the ***** up of Iraq? YOU voted Bush so in part you're to blame for the mess.
This whole last 6 years has been a big ***** mess, not just Iraq, on so many levels. But instead of face the problem directly, the far right point fingers and shift blame as usual, like that really helps a lot. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I wish your dad had pulled out of your mom to save us from dealing with one more moron, but I digress.
Economy.. great? k, I love paying $2-3 for gas especially when it was 99-1.09 in the mid to late 90s. This specifically has to do with going to war with Iraq for no reason, not to mention the trillion dollars we've spent on that ***** desert nation.
I really wish we would stop trying to dig every other country out of their holes and start digging a way out of ours. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11No, digg has a bias towards common sense. You deserve to be dugg down for such a stupid comment.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12He never admitted mistakes were made ON THEIR PART. He blamed everyone else but his circle of demons and himself.
Oh oh Russian intelligence, oh oh Egypt said this, blah blah.
What he should do is admit he lied just to get us behind going to war with Iraq to gain land and add a military base in the middle east for the US, specifically one near Iran, not to mention get control of those oil fields. - jellygraph, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12@ skyshock21:
>> I love how this article makes it seem as though James Baker is
>> blaming Bush
um, i read the article three times now and no where does it make it seem as Baker is blaming Bush. How do you just pluck these things out of thin air? Earth to SkyShock! Anyone home??? - fjvwing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9And why wouldn't they jump ship? W. never needs to win another election again. There's nothing he can do for them in the next two years. They need to find the next thing to hang on to.
- JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8What does it matter that taxes are down right now when the deficit is staggering? A short term drop in taxes that we all have to pay back later? Its like saying, "I got a cash advance on my Visa card so I'm rich, bitch!"
And if the economy is so ***** great then how come the dow took 6 years to get beyond the level under Clinton?
In terms that republicans can understand, "Cut your losses." Let the Iraqi government vote, if they want the US there, we stay, if they don't, we get out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@skyshock21:
I would say i want WHAT you are smoking but i dont want to be ignorant as you are. It is common knowledge that we broke up the iraqi army and a lot of them joined the insurgents, it is probably the most quoted of Bush's failures and this isnt something made up by the liberal think progress, this is a simple fact.
and all the retired gens, and powel and many others complained about the total lack of post war planning. We have never before went into a war ignoring contingency plans. QUit being an admin talking point regurgitator and learn something. - fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"Truth and reality do not fit into the Digg model"
Can you explain then why you visit Digg and post here? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10***** everyone on the left, right, and middle. ***** everyone.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5everytime A conservative turns on bush, the walking talking point parrots call them a liberal or blame the media for reporting a conservative disagreed. Heck remember scott ritter, the man they said went from conservative war hawk to liberal dove. And Powell, whom they called a frequent underminer of the president. They will attack anyone as a moonabt who disagrees with the president as a liberal.
- EntropyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't be fooled by Baker. His job is to get boy George out of trouble. I expect massive amounts of face saving cover to come out of his report, duck and cover, which will be Bush's version of cut and run.
Bush knows he'll be crucified for flip flopping on the cut and run issue, so he needs someone with authority to say it's the only way (which it clearly was three years ago). - vertinox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4(Parody@Funkpucker)
Hitler in his own words "I will not withdraw the troops from Russia even if Eva and Blondi are the only ones supporting me."
Blondi is his dog which he killed along with Eva for not cluing him in on his "Do not retreat policy" which allowed the Soviet forces to destroy the German Army who were simply forced to remain in place and not allowed to retreat and regroup.
Remember... Staying the course lost them the war. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@skyshock21:
If you are going to be ignorant, maybe you should refrain from commenting until you google and dont change my words, i said because we disbanded the army, a lot of former iraq army personanel went to the insurgents, I did not say we did it SO that they would join the insurgents.
Seriously dude get a clue.

Before you call people names and call them "batty" liars, maybe you should verify you are correct.

cant attack my comment so you attack my spelling, I would rather be a bad speller than often wrong like you. - DeadWisdom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4SkyShock... No. Sigh... This is one of the most widely criticized decisions that the Bush Administration has ever made, even by its own members.

As I was googling, PowerCow answered you too. I'll leave my post for additional sources. - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Taxes down, economy great, unemployment down"
Civil rights down, due process of law down, torture up, blind loyalty up, ignorance up, debates down, accountability down... - mikejna, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Iraq is a huge ***** sandwich that America will be taking bites out of for a looooooong time. What say we throw the bums who dreamed it up out of office this November?
- alanspach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Mr T was quoted as saying that Condalezza Rice talks a buncha Jibba-Jabbah
- JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@kevin45,
great point. High gas prices are a stealth Bush tax.
It hurts the working class more than it does the rich so it is a regressive tax. Except these taxes bypass the corrupt government and goes directly to the people who put them there in the first place, ExxonMobil. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Forget obesity; I think pride is one of the biggest scourges afflicting our country now. Proud of being a dumbass who voted for a terrible president that promised to destroy our country, not once, but twice, goddammit. Proud to be a redneck. Proud to be fat.
Why the ***** are these retards so proud? What the ***** are they taking, because if it means me being dimwitted and happy, then maybe I'm ready to jump ship and join the masses of peabrained *****. - rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't agree with the idea that everyone was in agreement that we should go in. There were a lot of people who were saying that we shouldn't go in, and a lot of people were saying that the intel wasn't all there, that there wasn't any proof that Saddam was any kind of threat. They were just shut out of the debate.
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The biggest mistake was going in without an exit plan."
The plan was we would be greeted as liberators, yay! Who needs an exit plan?
"Everyone was pretty much in agreement that we should go into Iraq based on the provided intelligence, but there was never a an exit plan."
Except the millions of people around the world who could tell the intelligence was cooked and the decision to go to war did not revolve around this intelligence but was fixed policy. - lordTalus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The biggest mistake was going in without an exit plan. Everyone was pretty much in agreement that we should go into Iraq based on the provided intelligence, but there was never a an exit plan.
Now, we have a situation that is either being blown out of proportion by the media or swept under the rug by the current administration. I always thougt we should work something out with Sadam...even though he is a mean SOB, he knew how to keep his region in peace. The problem is that he viewed himself as a god...making it a bit difficult to appeal to his ego.
Something big needs to happen in Iraq to turn the tide. I don't think getting out is an option at this point...that idea reminds me of JackAss the movie, when Jonny Knoxville brings back the demolished rental car proclaiming somebody has got to fix it! - rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats just sick, holding out until after the election. This is information that an electorate needs to make a decision. These guys have the utmost contempt for democracy.
- JamesK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All right, I'll bite.
What lie by Think Progress are you talking about? Name a couple since you seem certain its true. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5or he was infected with the liberalism bug (reality) when he went on the daily show.
- Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From article:
"[...] possibly including “withdrawing American troops in phases, and bringing neighboring Iran and Syria into a joint effort to stop the fighting.”"
... and he's talking about a "helluva mess" *now*? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@fredrated:
because they want the peopel to think their fantacy dream world actually exists.
DOnt you know aphghanistan is going swimmingly. Bagdhad is no more dangerous than NYC. The WMDs we were looking for really were found. Iraq really is the central front on terrorism and saddam had relations with al quida. And we dont and have never tortured anyone.
They really should have taken the red pill. - omababy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@skyshock21 - You are a great example of what watching american media does to the human brain.
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@skyshock21 "of the new Iraqi government not being able to organize their citizenry in a civilized manner"
Yeah they got an invading army that they want out. But who cares what the Iraqis want, LET'S DEFEND CHIMP!! - Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rick Perry or Jeb Bush in 2008. Mark my words. Jeb is too intelligent for the GOP's liking, though.

How the roles have reversed.... - TexMurphy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alot of the problems in the world would get soved if DR Condalezza Rice changed to Mrs Condalezza Rice XXXXXX.
- manano, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1When did the Iraqi information minister began doing freelance work for the Bush administration?
"No I am not scared, and neither should you be!"
"Be assured. Baghdad is safe, protected" - kryogenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks for proving my point. Majority consensus != common sense.

i suppose while we are making things up when they dont exist and claim it was obviously intented... - CharlieInCO, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, that's right, Baker went over there expecting an active war zone to be Central park on a sunny spring day.
- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2All you have to do to be a celebrity is oppose the war in Iraq. The liberal media is all over anyone with a connection to the war who is against it. But the thousands of families and troops who are for the war? No news there, no reporting.
Every bomb an insurgent blows up in Iraq gets front-page, top of the hour coverage. Every school and hospital built gets nothing. Of course they don't. They aren't "news". Coverage of progress in Iraq? Almost none whatsoever.
By September 2005, more than 8.5 million Iraqi children and young people were attending school or university—an all-time record in the nation’s history. By January 2006, all of Iraq’s 600 state-owned hospitals and clinics were in full operation, along with dozens of new ones set up by the private sector since liberation. Iraq has resumed its membership in the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and has returned to world markets as a major oil exporter. According to projections, by the end of 2006 it will be producing its full OPEC quota of 2.8 million barrels a day.
