- titopuente, on 10/12/2007, -32/+285There was no terror threat from Iraq before we invaded. Now there's a well-organized terrorist network that poses more of a threat to US security than Saddam Hussein ever did

U.S. Troops in Iraq: While 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks,” 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq.”

That 85% should drop down to 0%, yes? - i5aac, on 10/12/2007, -16/+161This war on terror seems to be working just about as well as the war on drugs.
- ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -44/+187This just in: There were no terrorists in Iraq till the U.S. got there.

How can you have a war on a tactic? - carve, on 10/12/2007, -18/+118Absolutely right, Mark. You can't have a war on a tactic.
Our main problem right now is that we have NO strategic military objective in Iraq. The only role our troops seem to have is to shoot back when someone shoots at them. If we have no strategic objective, how do we know when we're finished?
BTW- most American citizens also believe Saddam was involved in 9/11, due to Bush's constant association of the two. Sad. - kp3469, on 10/12/2007, -9/+101Bush is a flip flopper.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -8/+96"This is a straw man. No one ever said Iraq was involved in planning 9/11. No Digg. Buried."
*****. What are you, a GOP shill? Paid to troll web forums and make the Bush administration look good?
During the lead-in to the war in Iraq Bush said repeatedly that Hussein provided financial support, training and shelter to Al Qaeda members. - rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -4/+80I can't wait to see the Jon Stewart video clip!
- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -11/+81holy crap! bush actually told the truth for once. i can only hope he will make sure and apologize to all of us for trying to convince this country (and the world) there was a link.
- melvs, on 10/12/2007, -7/+77Wait wait wait, hasn't he used 9/11 as a justification for Iraq multiple times now, or have I been smoking way to much crack? Good god, this man will never cease to amaze me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+69A LIAR must have a good MEMORY.
Seriously If this doesnt convince people they areally are STUPID: - guiscard, on 10/12/2007, -9/+63@jaymoon
we've made far more terrorists by invading iraq.
get a ***** clue. - dime, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58
The sad thing is it won't make a difference.
Bush could tap dance in a g-string singing "WE DUPED ALL YOU SUCKERS" and half the country would try to see if we could amend the constitution to vote him in a 3rd term. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -7/+55Has he told Dick Cheney yet?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49I doubt you could quote him saying that there was a *direct* connection but you'd find thousands of times he has placed the two in the same sentence. Slick propaganda really.
- SelfAbortion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36@markciccone
The war on drugs is working out great! All of our wars on ideas have been successful, or haven't you been paying attention to the news? - luma, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40"hahahahahahaha"
OK, riddle me this batman - how many suicide bombings occured in Iraq for the 20 years before we invaded? Any idea?
Zero. Not one. Saddam was a real ***** to be sure, but one thing he certainly didn't want hanging around his country were armed militants that may oppose his regime. No IEDs, no car bombs, no suicide bombers. Zippo. - dime, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37And you obviously are clueless (or intellectually dishonest) when it comes to nuance.
They didn't say Iraq had nuclear weapons either, but saying having everyone in the administration say "Don't let the smoking gun be a mushroom cloud" a thousand times sure got people to believe they did. Then, of course, you can worm away with "oh but we didn't SAY that" *****. - ScornForSega, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34@elebrio

Hold the peace?!?!? What freakin' planet are you living on? There's NO peace in Iraq. There wasn't peace in Iraq when we WEREN'T there. There's even less "peace" now than when Saddam was in power! - theoallardyce, on 10/12/2007, -14/+40> This war on terror seems to be working just about as well as the war on drugs.
I could have predicted that 5 years ago and thus saved the US government trillions of dollars. So with that potential under my belt would anyone like to hire me as a consultant? Seriously, trillions of dollars. - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28"The ends justifies the means" sounds a lot like the tactics the US has taken as well.

transcript from when bush made this admission in 2003. on the sunday prior to this interview, cheney was on "meet the press". when asked about saddam's involvement, cheney responded with "i don't know, or we don't know" if there was any involvement. bush speaks to this point precisely.
we all know they never expressly said "saddam was involved" (like they never said "mission accomplished") but as late as 2003, the vice president of the united states was still trying to "manipulate" the masses in order to further justify this pointless war. every rational person that can think for themselves knew this wasn't the case, there wasn't a shred of evidence to stand on, but the vp was still touting it as an unresolved issue. who's manipulating who now?
i don't have the time to pull up every instance, but you know quite well there are countless others. - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28@carve

That's not entirely true. The objective is to "hold the peace as much as possible, until the Iraq government is stable" - now when will that occur? Who the hell knows, probably never. - carve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20If you've never heard Bush tried to associate Iraq and 9/11, you haven't been paying attention. He's never come right out and said it, but he has been implying it for years, so much so that the majority of the public believes it is true.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25One sure way to get the TRUTH, and ive done this many times, is ask a DIRECT QUESTION when they DONT EXPECT IT (break their lying flow :)
Works every time as this is evident. - dshPls, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26NEW AT 6: Karl Rove was seen today sporting a bandage across 65% of his head, details are yet to be known

***** - Ruckgesicht, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20""But in a "war on terror" you must also go after the governments that support these groups i.e. Afghanistan and Iraq.""
And when are we going to go after the US? They supported the terrorist 'freedom fighters' in Afghanistan during the Cold War, who killed so many even after the Russians pulled out; they also gave chemical and biological weapons to Saddam Hussein in his war with Iran. If these countries harbored terrorists we helped pave the way for them to be there. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17He really couldn't.
That would be like shooting him in the face. - Popdmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17You're dismissing it as intellectual laziness while being too lazy to cite sources?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20This just in; iceperson doesn't know a thing about Afghanistan.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Now that Bush has admitted this, you should look back at his past claims about Iraq's link to 9/11, terrorism and Anthrax. These quotes come from an official Congressional project, not from any fringe "conspiracy" site. Read them. Although, I warn you that you may burst into an uncontrollable, murderous rage after you do.
http://digg.com/politics/Official_Compilation_of_Bush_s_Iraq_Claims - carve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Cheny, Rumsfield & Co. have been lobbying for a war in Iraq since the mid 90's (there was a timeline here on Digg last week). It is embarassing that our congress and most of our citizens were foolish enough to be duped by them. What are we coming to?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15i want to see the fox news commentary on this..

The US ratified the Geneva Convention; therefore, is subject to it's conditions. - Sabot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Here is one linkage that has been made. Here Bush talks about how al Qaeda has been in contact with Iraq for 10 year before 9/11 and they have trained them how to kill with WMDs. Now he says they had nothing to do with 9/11. Humm...
President George W. Bush on Al-Qaeda:
"We know that Iraq and al Qaeda have had high-level contacts that go back a decade. Some al Qaeda leaders who fled Afghanistan went to Iraq. These include one very senior al Qaeda leader who received medical treatment in Baghdad this year, and who has been associated with planning for chemical and biological attacks. We've learned that Iraq has trained al Qaeda members in bomb-making and poisons and deadly gases."
Source: President Bush Outlines Iraqi Threat; Remarks by the President on Iraq, White House (10/7/2002). - locojones, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I'm not so much disturbed by the clip as a whole as I am about his statement about the very Orwellian-sounding "freedom agenda" that he wants to spread through the Middle East. I wonder if anyone stops to think that perhaps nobody there wants to be force fed our freedom agenda, and that maybe that's why they're sorta pissed off at us all the time?
- bane3d, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Oi, I just showed this to one of the republicans I work with. He blinked a couple of times and said well, we don't go to war with Iraq because of that, it was because they weren't allowing UN investigators to search their country. I completely give up. I truly believe that the majority of the US is braindead. I can argue and debate many things, but I can't argue stupidity and ignorance.
- schlurp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11You can imply things strongly without actually saying them and directly lying about them.
Here is an example:
"Stronger child protections laws were implemented and between 1998 and 2001 TungFu did not rape a single child"
Now sprinkle statments like that through public speeches of all government officials for years and take a poll of what the population thinks about TungFu. - schlurp, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17He did not say hang them without a trial.
What would you suggest as an appropriate punishment for someone who is responsible for the death of 10000s already, maybe 100000s in the end? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15@NSMike
don't steal other people's material - bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I know this isn't "rational" per se, but I *loathe* this man
I really sincerely do.
He has lied to us so many times, Swapped things around, manipulated us with half truths and outright fallacies, committed utterly reprehensible war crimes, pressured the Australian Government & British Government into supporting him on the basis of being allies in the second world war, as well as demonstrating economic boycotting as they did in france. (by the way USA citizens, we are still your allies, just not BUSH's oligopoly's ally) Killed 40 times the number of innocent civilians as were killed in 9/11, pushed funds away from medical research and into war research (allowing china to overtake USA in revolutionary medical research) and.... oh man...
I just loathe him... I watch a video of him lying to us once again and I cannot contain myself.. I watch his buddy's news channel support and broadcast these lies and I cannot control myself... I read one of the 5 or so papers available in my home town (regional australia) and realise that due to the same man owning these papers, I, and the australian voting public are getting an incredibly biased point of view.
I loath him beyond words, beyond comprehension.
I need to see him tried for war crimes (yes I believe he deserves a trial) before he triggers any more wars - any more deaths.
Cheney, Rumsfeld and Bush - the Axis of Oligopoly and the centrepiece of Corporate Imperialism. Impeaching that dispicable 'man' would do alot more than just send a message to the world that we do not support him. - blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"This war on terror seems to be working just about as well as the war on drugs."
I am glad to learn the price of terror has been divided by ten in the last 20 years. - treleung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"You reading digg while you're supposed to be working shows how braindead this country is."
You're reading digg while your mother is making you a sandwhich.
