- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -14/+73Bush has also vacationed more than any US president in history!
Not to mention that for six years when Republicans were controlling Congress he never complained about them taking the same vacations.
And he can't even hold a flag the correct way. Bravo Republicans! Great Job!
- thecerwin, on 08/13/2008, -24/+46Approval rating for Congress led by Democrats: 19.3%
President Bush's approval rating 29.6%
Democrats need to get off their high horse, at least Bush is aware he is an unpopular President. The disconnect between Congress and the American public has never been greater. Despite the high cost of energy, democrats have proven they just don't care and will not act to help ease the economic pain we are all going through. They need to get out of the f'n way and let us drill at home. - iChaz, on 08/13/2008, -27/+49congress is probably more productive in a week's vacation than bush is in the entire year...
- lostsymphonies1, on 08/13/2008, -8/+24Bush "Made 74 trips to his Crawford ranch, for a total of 466 days & 142 trips to Camp David, for a total of 450 days."
That's 916 days (2.5 years) of vacation (just between those 2 destinations) out of 8 years. I wish I got that kind of vacation time. - yadkincountynow, on 08/13/2008, -3/+17It is normal for all of congress and the president to take vacations at this time of year. I for one am glad, they can't screw up the country while on vacation
- thecerwin, on 08/13/2008, -9/+22Yeah? How many pieces of legislation have they passed? We are going to need to see some proof of this "productivity."
- greenroom628, on 08/13/2008, -5/+17another way of saying it would be: bush is more destructive in a week than congress would be all year.
- Takfam, on 08/13/2008, -8/+19I believe that it is you and your ilk that need to get off of your high horse. The disconnect between congress and loudmouth idiots demanding cheaper gas with no knowledge of the US$ plummet in value and no regard to the system of a free market economy has never been greater. I am very thankful for that.
- cyclades, on 08/13/2008, -9/+20Hail to the *****.
- Khast, on 08/13/2008, -5/+14Heh, I guess Republicans like to call Democrats "tax and spend" (Which after Bush, I think Republicans have totally EARNED this title.)
Republicans are also big on taking huge amount of vacation time.
Maybe I should run for president one day, I'd love to have a job where I can take vacation during the time when we have the most going on. (And not be fired.) - nblsavage, on 08/13/2008, -3/+11Just for the record. The Senate is dead even with Republicans and Democrats. The House Democratic lead is in the low 30s.
- kalvinb, on 08/13/2008, -2/+9Let's see if I remember how the government works. The President writes up a piece of legislation and then passes it onto the house and senate who can then veto it or pass it back.
Oh, that's not how it works?
Seeing as how the President doesn't have much of a job to do unless Congress is creating and passing legislation I'm not sure how this article is intelligent.
If Congress had bills piling up on the president's desk and he was on vacation and refusing to sign or veto them, then this article would be intelligent. - EllenO, on 08/13/2008, -2/+9He actually canceled his vacation.
- nblsavage, on 08/13/2008, -9/+16You do realize they go home to work with their constituents right? It's not really a "vacation"
- rinote, on 08/13/2008, -12/+19Is he STILL in office? Ugh.
- inactive, on 08/13/2008, -4/+10so.....
no comment about Bush's obvious hypocrisy?
What a shock. - Carv, on 08/13/2008, -7/+13You have more vacation days than any president. Please, shut the ***** up. And really, why does it matter to you that they're on vacation? Are you going to be sad without your weekly veto?
- JinnRikki, on 08/13/2008, -1/+7We had the worst terrorist attack on this idiots watch, he was warned it would happen and he blew it off. Stop believing all the BS and think for yourself.
- frostedflakes, on 08/13/2008, -10/+16What an asswipe.
- marcus1060, on 08/13/2008, -4/+10Bush doesn't need to be around for Cheney to run the country.
- yngtimmy, on 08/13/2008, -2/+8You all are dorks. Do you think for a minute that the president of the USA is ever "on vacation"? He has briefings, meetings, business still gets done. He just doesn't unplug and go "Oops! I cant take that call I'm on vacation." Even on vacation the president is still working and operating as this countries commander in chief so give me an effing break
- legsthebass, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8If you get weekends off + 2 weeks a year then you actually have more vacation time than that. I think he's still President on Saturday.
- JinnRikki, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8Yes indeedy, like when he was on vacation and they brought him that Presidential Daily Brief stating "Al Qaida determined to strike in the U.S." and he told the guy "okay, you've covered your ass now".
Doin' a heck-of-a job there bushie. - Dunnion, on 08/13/2008, -5/+10He isn't saying them taking a vacation is bad, he is talking about the timing. Sure this is the time they take it every year, but important issues are more important then golf games. Sure Bush has taken alot of vacation time, but its not like he went to Camp David on September 12th.
- dafunkmonster, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8I believe what Bush is criticizing is the fact that, when the new energy bill (which is designed to combat high gas prices, and encourage cheap alternative energy) came up for a vote, Nancy Pelosi turned off the lights, walked out, and all the democrats followed her.
They chose to go on vacation rather than attempt to fix the fact that I shell out half my paycheck just to get to work and back.
***** congress. ***** 'em. - Loonacy, on 08/13/2008, -3/+8Like when something major happens in the world such as Russia bombing Georgia? He's ready to.... raise the roof at an Olympic event.
- JinnRikki, on 08/13/2008, -1/+6It's been 35 years since I sat in gas lines because OPEC embargoed the U.S. No one has done anything in all those years, what's the rush?
And no he didn't go on September 12th but he was there, before it happened in August, when the PDB warning Al Qaida intended to attack in the U.S. and he blew it off. - Loonacy, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7I think it's mostly because Democrats don't approve of the Republican part of Congress, while Republicans don't approve of the Democratic side of Congress. If Bush were half Republican and half Democratic and was constantly fighting with himself, he'd probably have a much lower approval rating.
- RomeyRome, on 08/13/2008, -2/+7Don't forget: "Get a good job and take care of yourself."
- algaeturd, on 08/13/2008, -1/+6Quit excusing it. The reason they get away with it so often is because half of America is just like you: apathetic and allowing it because 'it's everywhere.'
We should hold our leaders to higher standards. It's disgusting that people just excuse it based on 'that's politics!'
It's shameful and as a nation, it's time we step up and demand more rather than saying, 'oh, it's expected...that's what politicians do.'
No, it's not. It's what we've allowed them to do because we've been lax on holding them to do their jobs and do them well.
Vote out the crooks...all of them. No more making excuses, no more low standards for congress or the presidency. - badbadmike, on 08/13/2008, -8/+13Lazy and corrupt. I can't decide which of these traits is more glaring in George W. Bush.
- moo083, on 08/13/2008, -5/+9I don't understand why the Offshore drilling bill is an emergency anyways. If it isn't gunna affect us for 10 years, why does it matter if they do it now or in 3 months?
- mrswirl, on 08/13/2008, -2/+6Army uniforms are the only 'officially approved' display where the stars (Union) is deliberately facing forward or to the right side of the observer...
http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html
Army Regulation 670-1, “Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia,” updated most recently September 5, 2003, addresses explicitly the proper and lawful placement of the U.S. flag patch on the Army uniform.
"The regulation states that when authorized for application to the proper uniform the American flag patch is to be worn, right or left shoulder, so that “the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the ‘reverse side flag’.” - dafunkmonster, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4Congress would rather spend time interviewing baseball players to see if they juice rather than interviewing economists to figure out the best way to immediately reduce oil prices.
- lostsymphonies1, on 08/13/2008, -2/+6Just because I am on vacation doesn't mean I'm not doing my job either.
- scoottie, on 08/13/2008, -0/+4actually he criticized it before. pelosi just wants to make her money off of high gas prices
http://digg.com/environment/Hot_air_and_gas_from_t ... - draculthemad, on 08/13/2008, -6/+10Gas was over 4 dollars until congress *hinted* that they'd be passing tighter regulation against speculating.
It dropped 50c in some places right afterwards. - kamiten, on 08/13/2008, -6/+10Let's not forget that McCain also holds a record for absenteeism!
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/20 ... - anandpopat, on 08/13/2008, -6/+10Democrat congress, uhh what do you expect. They havent accomplished anything in their entire time
- kiwiboyus, on 08/13/2008, -6/+9So how many more McCain points do you need before you qualify for a hand job down the back of the straight talk express?
- DebbieKat, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4What they SHOULD do is take care of the speculators and close the loop. Supply and Demand doesn't fluctuate wildly like this on a daily basis, but the stock market sure does...
Speculators only have to put up $100 for a $1000 option. Not much risk there. They don't even have to actually OWN the shares that they are betting on. Nice work if you can get it. Oh, and then your profits from such speculation are charged at a lower rate than the people who make your latte, clean your businesses' bathrooms, janitors at your kids' schools. We're talking 15% tax rate folks. What do you pay on YOUR taxes for your wages? I pay 28%. Guess I'm in the wrong business.
CLOSE THE LOOP ON COMMODITIES SPECULATION. Now THAT I'd support.
But Bush is a hypocrite to talk about anyone being on vacation. - IndigoMoss, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3Well it doesn't help that our choices are always between a giant douchebag or a turd sandwich. I always vote for the people that I think that are honest, but they don't get elected. I then send emails to my local congress person to voice my complaints and get a generic email back.
- legalchaos, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Regardless of how you fell about Bush, Congress should have NOT gone on vacation. Two wrongs don't make a right, remember?
- mdbsat, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3no kidding! bush has !@#$ed this country. it will take YEARS to undo this mess.
- ouzome, on 08/13/2008, -4/+7This is so stupid. It's Congress that has to approve and vote on an Energy Plan, which the President can then veto if he wishes. It's Congress that has to do the work right now as Americans are hurting from $4.00 a gallon gasoline. It's Congress! But they go on vacation for six weeks!
The last day under much heated debate, Nancy Pelosi just shut down Congress, had the lights turned off, had C-SPAN turned off! . . . while Mike Pence and the Republicans stayed to discuss their plans for the Energy Plan. It's their second week there while Democrats are doing nothing about $4 gas - nothing. - enki25, on 08/13/2008, -0/+3This is almost as funny as Bush criticizing Russia for invading Georgia.
- anandpopat, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4it will make the middle east and other countries jacking up the price realize that if they keep the price high, we will no longer rely on their foreign oil, and use ours, meaning huge loss for the future of their business
- johndavidjack, on 08/14/2008, -0/+3Regardless of whether or not you like President Bush, or agree with his policies or not, he gets ***** done, good or bad in all of your humble opinions.
- JinnRikki, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4Stop making sense!
- DebbieKat, on 08/13/2008, -1/+4They're (right-wing sheeple) probably neo-con plants, and probably paid for with our tax money too.
