- CVL4317, on 12/12/2008, -30/+391He should condemn his own presidency first before anything else.
- brainnovate, on 12/12/2008, -24/+327and I don't think the picture of a turkey is a coincidence!
- ChloeMS, on 12/12/2008, -56/+323Bush would outlaw free-air next. His policy is that his friends in business should be able to force Americans to by every damn thing in life. Good thing that repugnican is out of our hair in just a few weeks!
- truberg, on 12/12/2008, -21/+182Is it just me, or is he actually being reasonable now that it doesn't matter? Wi-Fi is a great technology, but please people... USE YOUR BRAINS! DO YOU WANT THE GOVERNMENT IN CHARGE OF THIS? Not only is reprehensible on (libertarian) principle, but this would be the first step towards Internet regulation. Name one thing that The State pays for that they don't start issuing content regulation over. Oppose this for the same reason one should oppose school vouchers... once they allocate money for previously private services, here come the stipulations! What's wrong with the current free-market rate of progress in this area, anyway? The days of truly FREE Internet will be sorely missed if we actually do get "FREE" Internet (I hope you Diggers get what I'm sayin' here...)
- iisabelle, on 12/12/2008, -15/+169As much as I like the internet, I somehow think the funds for this wi-fi project could be better spent.
But then again, that's true about most things this government spends money on. - dandigg2008, on 12/12/2008, -9/+13438 days : 11 hrs : 33 mins : 53 secs
- davecachia, on 12/12/2008, -30/+153Wireless internet causes cancer!
/s - stachesnmullets, on 12/12/2008, -32/+117I don't think it fits into his series of tubes method of understanding.
- mediaspree, on 12/12/2008, -26/+106Even if Obama is just an "empty suit" as some have alleged (and I disagree with). At least he has the pulse on technology...which the empty suit of george bush was just empty to start from.
- iamamaniac, on 12/12/2008, -25/+103A government-mandated free nationwide network is not the most effective or efficient way to assist underserved areas.
- YodaJones, on 12/12/2008, -37/+115Who gives a ***** what Bush has to say. Like his wisdom is worth a *****. Buried.
- clintmaher, on 04/21/2009, -19/+95The history books need a few more "Bushisms" before he leaves, what a tosser.
- 1town, on 12/12/2008, -28/+95I kept getting logged into "free public wifi" when walking around New York. Never worked. Face it people, if you want something done right, leave the government out of it.
- bixby1, on 12/12/2008, -16/+76clown shoes.
- Ma1achi, on 12/12/2008, -18/+75we have a saying in texas, fool me once, shame on you.... fool me.... well.... you can't get fooled again
- Rothbardosaurus, on 12/12/2008, -7/+62Bush is no friend of the free market, but nationalized Wi-Fi is an incredibly stupid idea. We'll have it anyway though, because it's all part of the universal surveillance state.
- DavidYeah, on 12/12/2008, -13/+68Not free, paid for by federal taxes, kinda like the interstate highways and the original research of the internet the ...aaaand it'll be stupid cheap compared to my ***** comcast bill.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -29/+80Why exactly do we need free wireless internet access? Beyond the simple fact that we've got more pressing issues facing the nation?
Why not free food? Or transportation? - Suricou, on 12/12/2008, -5/+54It'll also be slow and congested. It's intended for low-income people.
- osko2052, on 12/12/2008, -24/+69Nothing is free. Somebody has to pay for it. I already pay way too many taxes and I refuse to pay more. I pay for my own internet access. Everyone else can too or go to their local public library.
- sox101, on 12/12/2008, -10/+54Internet is one of the most basic and pervasive utilities in the modern world. Free wireless would simply make it easier for everyone to have access to the wealth of global information wherever they are. Do you believe the nationwide telephone network was an unnecessary expenditure? The television network? The road system?
- dirtyfrog, on 12/12/2008, -6/+43I get free TV. It is even in HD. I did have to make a purchase for the HD rabbit ears, but that is a one time deal.
- wiccidnu, on 12/12/2008, -4/+39Not to mention that you can't compete with free, so the lack of competition will insure that the service sucks like a vacuum...
- CoreyTamas, on 12/12/2008, -5/+40You know, you might get that saying right if you weren't so busy trying to put food on you families.
- raydeen, on 12/12/2008, -10/+44It wasn't empty. It was full of ***** *****.
- dn11, on 12/12/2008, -10/+44we already have "free" interstate highways for the purpose of transportation and commerce. seems to have worked out pretty well in that case
- neumadr, on 12/12/2008, -6/+39wait, you don't think you're buying the government's "free wifi"?
- dn11, on 12/12/2008, -16/+49I agree, I only drive on the private national highway system, that government one never works properly. And it sucks that the government didn't take your advice when they funded the creation of the internet, I hate using it and wish the private sector had made their own -would be so much better!
- bemenaker, on 12/12/2008, -4/+37Bush hates it, it must be good!!!
- badqat, on 12/12/2008, -5/+38Oddly, somehow I expect to read that as a breaking headline in about, oh, five years tops.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -6/+37@1town
Where the ***** are you getting internet access for $10 a month? - cgruber, on 12/12/2008, -8/+39I'm not sure I really want my taxes to go to pay for free wireless service when:
1.) We're in the a huge economic slump, and who knows if the I'll have a job tomorrow.
2.) I already have internet, and don't really want to be basically paying for it twice. (Free really isn't free.)
Now if the purpose of this is to enable an alternative to dial-up access in areas not currently serviced by a broadband provider, then my opinion shifts a little. The internet really is growing beyond entertainment. - coyote1284, on 12/12/2008, -5/+36@suricou
and it'll by monitored by some gov't agency - CoreyTamas, on 12/12/2008, -2/+33George W. Bush: "I know how hard it is for you to put food on your families."
/Do you see what I did there?
//wait a second: "3 families"?? - jeffsb, on 12/12/2008, -22/+51Wi-Fi is a privilege, not a right.
- ellem, on 12/12/2008, -11/+39Does anyone bother to read articles anymore. Does anyone even know why this is very bad idea? Does anyone understand what the douchebags at the FCC are trying to pull? Bush is against it? Oh then I'm for it.
Good work sheeple. - cptmichael101st, on 12/12/2008, -0/+27It also causes severe rectal discomfort when you shove a router up your ass.
- darkchild82, on 12/12/2008, -14/+41Did someone actually explain it to him what Wi-Fi is before he rejected the idea?
- mikeymondavi, on 12/12/2008, -4/+31Free? HA! That's a good one...
- breadfred, on 12/12/2008, -12/+37Because you are posting on this website, I assume you have access to the internets. A wild assumption, I agree.
Unfortunately there are many area's in the good ol US of A where it is not economical for a company to install tubes. The effect of this is that many people will get behind - no access to the same job opportunities, news outlets, etc as you have.
Now, you might like that. It gives you a better chance to land that job as not everyone sees the same advert. I for one think we should play on a level playing field and allow basic internet access for everyone. - theaceoffire, on 12/12/2008, -2/+26Which is far worse than just *****, as it doesn't call you the day after.
- DOCNM, on 12/12/2008, -4/+27The projected cost is about $40bil (If I remember correctly). The projected benefit is $180bil per year.
- zeblith, on 12/12/2008, -14/+36And I hope he goes right into a ***** jail cell. We need to mend the bleeding gashes torn into the Constitution, and a little well-deserved, long overdue justice makes for a fine suture.
- 1town, on 12/12/2008, -10/+32Actually, I live in the socialist paradise/hell of Norway. And yes, you can get internet for $10 here.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -10/+31Shhhhhh. . . . all the losers sucking off the taxpayer tit have been brainwashed into thinking their fellow citizens should pay their mortgage, health care, education, and now Wi Fi.
This Atlas is going to shrug.
***** all the freeloaders. - ism70605, on 12/12/2008, -6/+27Yes, because the ability to use the internet anywhere wirelessly costs $10 a month. If you think internet only costs $10/month you must live with your mommy.
- inactive, on 12/12/2008, -23/+44***** Bush.
- blqysmg, on 12/12/2008, -1/+21@coyote: it already is
- altgeeky1, on 12/12/2008, -3/+23Google: Bush land swap exchange campaign contribution
Bush traded LOTS of federal land... some of it containing HUGE underground aquifers, and received in exchange land that is worthless with no water or minerals.
Expect this "public" water to be sold BACK to the taxpayer in another 10 years.
So, it's not outlawing free air... but he's doing his best to KILL clean water regulations on public water... and transferring good clean water into private hands, where he feels it would be better used. -
