Honor and ethics are in short supply in the White House. - stormkrow, on 09/22/2008, -1/+125I have an idea.
Make them pay ALL of their salary back to the companies they ruined.
That's how business is run from where I sit. If we fail to deliver we don't get paid. Simple enough. - diggitydooda, on 09/22/2008, -2/+112Bush has never missed an opportunity to turn tragedy into profits for him and his buddies. I'm sure there are about ten other ways he's profiting off of this deal, just haven't figured out yet how...
- bitfreak, on 09/22/2008, -1/+94The bonus payouts ALONE would likely have been enough to slow if not stop the bailouts:
As ABC News reported:
In 2007, Wall Street’s five biggest firms — Bear Stearns, Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley — paid a record $39 billion in bonuses to themselves.
That’s $10 billion more than the $29 billion loan taxpayers are making to J.P. Morgan to save Bear Stearns.
Those 2007 bonuses were paid even though the shareholders in those firms last year collectively lost about $74 billion in stock declines — their worst year since 2002. - rrouse, on 09/22/2008, -1/+84We need to handle this with tar and feathers.
- stormkrow, on 09/22/2008, -3/+79This is YOUR party Republicans. Hard at work bailing out Wall Streets Fat Cats. You know, the one that stands fully behind the richest 5% of Americans while the other 95% are struggling to survive. Here's the Republican party poster boy standing up for his constituents; the same person whom McCain gave a full throated endorsement to with 95% of his votes.
If anyone thinks that the "Republican" brand cares one modicum about the average American citizen I present to you Exhibit A: Your Poster Boy who wants zero punishment for these wreckless CEOs who lost shareholder money. This IS the Republican Band and to think McCain/Palin have or could "change" the policies of the most vile, corrupt and evil party conceived since Nazi Germany, well that is an exercise in futile naivety rarely seen in adults. - cyclades, on 09/22/2008, -3/+63Scumbag Bush makes another scumbag decision.
- kdawg1012, on 09/22/2008, -1/+50It's not likely that, even without their enormous golden parachutes and compensation packages, their companies will NOT cooperate with the bailout. It's in their interests. This is a lame excuse by a lame President.
Not one cent to the CEOs of the companies that helped get us into this mess - where the taxpayers have to bail them out! - Yankeluh, on 09/22/2008, -2/+45Bush at his best; what a complete moron!
- AmericanElitist, on 09/22/2008, -0/+42no, now IS the time for punitive measures.
this is the perfect, exactly correct, moral, ethical and most effective time for punitive measures. - sultanica, on 09/22/2008, -0/+41when will the public stand up and say "ENOUGH ALREADY!"
- Echota, on 01/05/2009, -0/+35This is an outrage!
We are expected to pay the SOB's for screwing us over! - inactive, on 09/22/2008, -1/+31The public will wait 6 weeks to let out steam by electing Obama president... but if McCain steals this election, expect the streets to rock like never before!
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+22Never forget who supported this complete and utter failure, don't let them distance themselves from him. Whining about Libs and Dems and Clinton and Obama's pastor and gay sex, while offering nothing of substance - and most notably - no defense for the lying little sack of ***** from Texas they shackled us with!
America's enemy is the idiot who IGNORED that Bush lied to us about Iraq, IGNORED that Bush defends treason, IGNORED that Bush was asleep at the wheel on 9/11, IGNORED that Bush had already blundered our war effort in Iraq, IGNORED that Bush still tries to link Iraq and 911, IGNORED that Bush was going to run amok with our Constitution, IGNORED his continued policy that fuels extremist groups and floods intelligence agencies with "false positives" from illegal wiretapping operations, IGNORED that Bush robbed our treasury—among other things and still voted to re-elect this miserable failure.
The enemy from within has perpetuated this death and devastation. Don't forget it.
It is because of a bush voter that the country is in the atrocious position it is in today. - kirrard, on 09/22/2008, -1/+23Not a CEO getting a bonus, but let me state what many are thinking: Bush needs punitive, criminal charges brought against HIM.
- algaeturd, on 09/22/2008, -2/+21BUSH After 9/11: We must act quickly in Congress to set things right! (subsequent failed war, Patriot Act passing, etc, failure after failure.
Bush after the credit fallous: We must act quickly in Congress to set things right! (insert further failure, more money for rich, crony friends and more power stolen for the executive branch.
DON'T ACCEPT BEING LIED TO ANYMORE! - qi4all, on 09/22/2008, -0/+19This is such BS! Disincentives? Who do they think they are kidding? They are standing in line for this bail out! This is just the Bush administration's play to help further line the pockets of their crooked, greedy frat brother buddies!
- duggedup, on 09/22/2008, -1/+19I have zero respect for comrade Bush, but I still would love to have a beer with the guy. I'd ask him to say "nuclear" then slam his head into the peanut bowl.
- bananasluggy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+17We need to swap their golden parachutes for lead ones. ;)
- stormkrow, on 09/22/2008, -1/+17Pelosi along with all of the Dems in the house right now are terrified of Cheney and the Neocons. If they push too hard they will lead us into World War 3. Why is it that only Dems not backing the Patriot Act and questioning the Bush White House received Anthrax Letters? Why is it that only fair minded journalists questioning the Administration got sent Anthrax?
Weapons grade American made Anthrax sent only to the dissenters?
Yet, it was only ONE man as we were led to believe.....and everything else is a coincidence. Riiiiight.
Kind of like the DC Madam just deciding to kill herself despite the fact that she had dirt on half the people in Washington or if you prefer Mark Lombardi who was an accomplished conceptual artist who, while chatting on the phone with a banker friend about the Bush savings and loan scandal, started doodling a diagram and was inspired to create a complex series of drawings and sketches that charted the details of the scandal. According to the New York Times, "He was soon charting the complex matrices of personal and professional relationships, conflict of interest, malfeasance and fraud uncovered by investigations into the major financial and political scandals of the day; to keep facts and sources straight, he created a handwritten database that now includes around 12,000 3-by-5-inch cards." After having an absolutely amazing Art Exhibit Opening in New York City he just decided to go home and commit suicide. Riiiiight.
It seems lots of people connected to the back dealings of the Neocons decide that suicide is painless. Interesting to say the least.
http://www.stewwebb.com/Murder%20Bush%20Body%20Cou ... - Killmon, on 09/22/2008, -0/+15We are their bitches... we do nothing to our congressmen for not stopping this stuff... the congress and senate are part of the problem... they aren't losing their houses! they do not even know how many they have! They are paid by the same folks that are getting bailed out... really they are not getting bailed out... the are selling our mortgages back to us... so not only are we paying our mortgage, we are paying to buy those from these companies with our taxes... they get profits, the fed owns our houses and property, and we pay + interest... we are dumb asses!
You want change go down to your state building and tell them personally that you are not going to vote for ANY professional politician and will vote for someone who is a regular Joe with regular Joe problems that will work for the regular Joe.... remove these corrupt professional lackys for office and you will see change.... Also, notice that ALL key players are members of the CFR, the prez of the FED is ex director of the CFR, Channey- ex director, Bush1 -ex director of CFR, current head of CIA and all for many decades -- ex directors , or members, of the CFR; Clinton, Obama, Kerri, all of them members and work for the big biz that started the CFR and is why they get backed as candidates and ALL the media are members... the Associated press is own by De Rothchild...the head of the central bank of the EU...AP feed ALL major media!!! It is very organized and on purpose.
Put it together folks.... the poeple that control the money own the media and control what you are able to perceive (you perceive mostly though sight and sound... that is what you use to form perception and perception is what you use to determine behaviors...like voting).
You think they do not get together and make strategy - of course they do( that is the same as conspire)! they met behind closed doors and decide, very carefully what they are going to do and when... they did thin on purpose...no they do not lose anything...make the profits and pass the lose on to us....
Everything I just said is reachable and provable... look at the results of the world around you.... do not deny reality to justify an unjustifiable belief.... we were all wrong, lets admit it and start removing people from office.
Sorry for the messy typing... I typed it super fast. - hiriumi, on 09/23/2008, -1/+163 more months... but he is still allowed to touch things. Scary.
- sullivanst, on 09/22/2008, -1/+16Never has the phrase "robber barons" been more applicable as a metaphor.
Although Bush is doing his best impression of Nero right now. He's already shown us his inner Calligula. - balt0r, on 09/23/2008, -0/+14When the American taxpayer is paying them and bailing out their company, yes.
- hawkeye17, on 09/22/2008, -3/+17When exactly IS the time for 'punitive measures'?? This whole American Nightmare of the last 8 years is the Bush Legacy...enjoy Bushies. Your incompetence will be enshrined for all to see throughout this countries history.
- kirrard, on 09/22/2008, -0/+14I agree, there would be public outrage at McCain win and potential riots. I fear it would cement the course of the death of this nation. The Republicans have been using the politics of division since Nixon, Rove just perfected it. When McCain saw that he could not win, he turned to Rove acolytes (I'm picturing Darth Vader and the Emperor). The "culture wars" could turn hot.
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -1/+14The article refers to the companies that are getting bailed out by the government, so yes they government should have a say in what they're getting paid because it's their money paying them.
- mithrasinvictus, on 09/23/2008, -1/+14The people pulling his and mccains strings arent stupid, just evil.
- stormkrow, on 09/22/2008, -0/+11Besides that this is Chess not Checkers.
I do agree that investigation is at the foremost of things that need to be done. I would also agree that their are quite a few bad apples in the Dem party. But on the whole the Republican party has much more blood on their hands in this "bail out". I mentioned Lombardi earlier, I would really suggest doing a google for his diagrams, you'll get a much better picture of who is tied to who and how those relationships have played out.
Or just dig your way through NNDB.
AIG (Overwhelming support for Republicans)
http://www.nndb.com/company/807/000120447/
Martin Feldstein , top Economist for AIG & just so happens to be on the John McCain 2008 Org
http://www.nndb.com/people/448/000094166/
A who's who if you will for Bankers who are getting bailed out....but this is a list of John McCain 2008 Org...funny that isn't it.
http://www.nndb.com/org/519/000168015/
More interesting to note is that Lehman Bros (Support Dems) and they didn't get the bail out...
http://www.nndb.com/org/519/000168015/
Lots of stuff in there @ NNDB so much so I couldn't sleep for a week. Remember this is Chess...not checkers and until Obama getsthe White house it will business as usual for both parties. - stankyg, on 09/23/2008, -1/+12Lame - don't try to delegitimize someone's point of view by inferring that they're communists.
AND of course the company is no longer a private company, is it? If it were it would be in bankrupcy. But as a solvent company, since our (my) government has bailed them out, and as a shareholder (taxpayer) of that company, I am entitled to my opinion that that CEO should be stripped of his golden parachute.
"the government unconstitutionally orders businesses to pay a minimum wage" ? Phhht. back that up, nutjob - BishkekBuddy, on 09/22/2008, -0/+10ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- vinod1978, on 09/23/2008, -1/+11Doesn't your employer decide how much you are going to get paid? The government will own 79.9% of AIG. The taxpayers have now become their employers, and since we have hired congress to speak on our behalf it is only right that they decide their employee's salaries.
- allowners, on 09/22/2008, -0/+10This is an excellent opportunity to say enough, executive compensation should be limited across the board in all corporations, limited to a reasonable multiple of lowest paid employees. In no other country is there this ridiculous disparity and it's obvious that it is not deserved. All compensation for executives should be limited to no more than 25 times the lowest paid in the company. If they don't like it, let them take a hike. They're doing a crappy job anyway, they would be doing us a favor.
- avataros, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9His last gift to his friends, and his parting shot to us?
- NotYourProdigy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9Bush has spent more money in his 8 years than anyone in the world.
- BishkekBuddy, on 09/22/2008, -0/+9... to include punitive measures against the idiot in the WH
- lilhelper, on 09/23/2008, -0/+9Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot... - S5S5S5, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8The CEO's need to be fired. If your company is being bailed out by the government, it means your company is now bankrupt. So why would the CEO's get paid to continue to run a bankrupt company? Many qualified people would be willing to do the job at 1/10th CEO salaries.
- dsmx, on 09/23/2008, -3/+11Did you just put honour and ethics in a sentence with relation to politics?
- twistaspliff, on 09/22/2008, -0/+8After October 1 it will be too late for an uprising. The military will already be deployed domestically, and any action would be met with martial law. Too little, too late I'm afraid. While the masses ignored the signs of the coming police state for the last 7 years, instead concerning themselves with the all important Hollywood gossip, these guys were laying plans to lock all dissenters into FEMA camps.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8Bush has increased the deficit by more than every President in the history of our nation COMBINED.
After 200+ years, we had a net $5 trillion deficit (and one that was DROPPING under Clinton due to balancing the budget and applying SURPLUSES to bring down the deficit) when Bush started. It's now > $10 trillion and going to pass $11 trillion if this buyout happens. - honeybrass, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8Rubbish, hes perfectly ethical and honorable. The rich, elitists, or "Chosen of God" get to keep all the money, which they rightfully theirs anyway, all they did was take it away So you see, it is the most just and correct then to do. Now get back to work so our betters can buy another $100,000 suit this year, you wouldn't want them to go without would you?
- WaxTrax, on 09/23/2008, -1/+9I'd vote for a public crucifixion.
- inactive, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8No, no, no. That's just wrong. It also sends the wrong message.
I suggest he be nabbed in the middle of the night, have a hood put over his head and handcuffed, sent on a plane to the middle of Iraq and dumped somewhere, oh, say, downtown Tikrit and let those ***** deal with him.
I'm sure they could think of a few things. - VitriolAndAngst, on 09/23/2008, -0/+8Executives have a higher burden to "RUN" a company. They aren't workers. So yes, this should probably be a law that we pass; Executives should pay down to 3 times the base salary at their corporation any compensation they received for a year previous to a bailout or bankruptcy. Cap their salary at ten times the base. This idea that we can't set a ceiling on executive compensation is nonsense. They have a board that votes everyone more money. We have 5 corporations that control 80% of the media. 118 board members who overlap these different companies, and have positions on top wall street firms, war profiteering companies and such. It's one big club and we only think there is a difference between a news organization and one selling weapons and one influencing a congressman to push for this bailout. It's all one big ***** club.
We need to end foreign ownership of US companies -- that means no more multinational corporations. We need to seriously re-look at how the founding fathers NEVER wanted a corporation to have this kind of power. We are always going to be going into messes like this -- because these bastards run everything.
And can we make a law that nobody ever registered as a lobbyist can be on the staff of a politician -- and that politicians have to wait 5 years to become a lobbyist or work for a company they had influence over? - wonkavsn, on 09/23/2008, -1/+9You know what the real kicker is? Bush will almost certainly never face justice for his crimes.
- D3koy, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7I get the feeling if I screwed up that bad, I'd be fired on the spot and compensation would never even be brought up...
- ThinkOutTheBox, on 09/22/2008, -0/+7These people need to stand up to them. They are running scared, sitting back and not doing anything is a bigger problem than doing something. These people and us have to stand up to these people. The problem is that both the Dem's and republicans are at fault. They are not working for us they are working against us.
- Crimsoneer, on 09/23/2008, -4/+11Does nobody else find it slightly ironic how Digg always portrays Bush as a complete and utter idiot, except when it comes to ripping everybody off, at which point he becomes a criminal mastermind?
- hangingchad, on 09/23/2008, -0/+7Bush can relate to these CEOs. He's a failed CEO and President himself. He's bankrupted every company he has run. Now Bush can add bankrupting a nation to his resume.
