- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -0/+33Anyone else getting the impression that the only way Bush and Cheney will leave the White House in '08 is after a torch-bearing mob breaks down the front door?
- SeethisPass, on 10/10/2007, -1/+23Arrest is the only answer for the bush crime family.
How much is enough?
Are we all secretly waiting for the start of a new world war or martial law?
How much is it worth to honor the results of a crooked election? - DesignerScott, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12"You never know when the terrorists are listening. It's all to prevent another 9/11"
"I swear I'm not trying to be a dictator" - Tyrsson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13The press thrives on sound bites. Bush learned that lesson in his initial bid for the White House and he has employed that understanding to his advantage ever since. Threaten not to answer their questions any more and reporters become compliant little puppies. It works almost every time.
- SurferBette, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8There have been other problems with NHTSA brewing for a few years. In 2004, NHTSA opined that manufacturers no longer have to tell auto dealerships about recalls, involving defects in various car models. Clark Howard's website (this page here: scroll down slightly - http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/2007/02/02/) describes how NHTSA has been trying to limit what information consumers can get on crash data for a while now. There was also a "call of the week" to Howard's radio show which he reposted on the website, and can be downloaded. The listener, named Kay, talks about NHTSA's recent actions, limiting what ordinary people can learn about the safety of their own cars - http://clarkhoward.com/archives/calloftheweek.html - it's one of the last calls. He notes that the new administrator is a lawyer, and has no previous history with car safety.
- ayrix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"The conscious and intelligent manipulation of the organized habits and opinions of the masses is an important element in democratic society. Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country."-Edward Bernays, Propaganda
- JohnFive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7wow, you can predict the future? or did you base your opinion on your limited knowledge of world organizations? please explain how we will be isolated? killing the nasty WTO and other such organizations i see only good coming from that.
- fixedcoma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6what happen to the right to free information and press? As our civil liberties and freedoms slowly get stripped from every one of us!!!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7i wasnt thinking torches
- Urusai, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You must be new to Planet Earth. Allow me to introduce the people who voted for Bush in 2004.
- kingrooster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Ron Paul is NOT an isolationist. He's a non-interventionist. He believes we shouldn't interfere with the politics of foreign nations but that we should be allowed to trade freely. You know, the old Trade with many, Alliance with none. That new fangled idea that our founding fathers came up with in the 18th century.
- chrisOrbit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Starting?
- Bdog2g2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Damnit,
Do as we say, not as we do. - 55sams, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Not slow.
government is moving pretty fast, these days.
Police state is accurate. - physphd, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4...despite all historic precedent to the contrary. With this being done at NASA, the EPA, and CDC what's next? Why have them at all if the substantive experts aren't allowed to publish papers in their field of expertise and engage in public discourse relevent to their profession? If it all goes through the White House spin machine that knows nothing about the topic at hand, then they become, quite literally, useless. When one of the world's top climatologists is silenced by a 23 year old political appointee with no science background, something is very, very wrong.
- nihilite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3too late. if we were a company, we'd be forced into bankruptcy by our creditors. fortunately, we spent our borrowed money on guns, so.....
- MadN, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Um, 2009.....
Don't count on them leaving then either....
Bush can bomb Iran and declare martial law if his NeoCon replacement loses in 2008. - g00dETH3R, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The maxim holds true, every single day Bush ***** you.
-g00dETH3R
And if anyone still supports him please reply to me... - Deived, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3So... they can be considered hypocrites? Surprising
... - davidcg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4This is starting to get really *****.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5yeah a trillion dollars a year burned by the military industrial complex seems fine to you
people like you should be the ones to pay a heavy price when the country becomes insolvent
you should pay for this with your own assets........... - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Picture of Bush and Cheney-The missing piece:
http://www.linkinn.com/_The_missing_Piece_pic - WhiteRaven, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4The government is not supposed to suggest new measures, it's supposed to carry out those measures the people direct it to do. Unelected governmental employees should never express opinions while wearing their bureaucratic "hats". They must first distance themselves from their position and make it clear that they are speaking as private citizens if they desire to express themselves. Any implication that they are speaking for a department or agency when in fact they are not is unacceptable.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -5/+6military industrial complex burns a trillion dollars a year
Ron Paul wants to stop this before the country becomes insolvent - SurferBette, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That provides a lot of insight. News reporters rely on both named, and 'Background' sources. For a public agency to suddenly refuse to talk, except for background, is highly suspect and strange. We're paying these people's salaries, and their work is supposed to be a matter of public record. We're not talking about troop movements (where at least, you would understand a veil of secrecy, for their own protection), but whether our kid sister or child could die in a badly designed car.
- WhiteRaven, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well DUHHHHHH. ALL government is politics.
Maybe you should learn from this and realize that it is unbelievingly stupid to conduct scientific research throgh the government. What the hell do you expect to happen? Political agendas have been twisting science for all of history. Get a clue.
You actually expect bureaucrats and politicizes to be enlightened, intelligent and informed. Wow. What planet were you born on? Government will always, always, always misdirect scientific research. The fact of the matter is, private science can do this too but at least they aren't confiscating their funds from the public. - chowdah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Ron Paul loves cats too.
- Wolfboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Skip the copy, read the original source:
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/08/22/whats-off-the-record-at-nhtsa-almost-everything/#more-165 - amoutbound, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I bet this has alot to do with the Mexican trucks that are about to roll on America's highways. I bet alot people will be asking this agency about the plans they have to montor these 10 ton chicken crates with tires.
- WhiteRaven, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1There's no such thing as "burning" money as you describe. You can insist on ignoring all the benefits that spending has for the country as a whole but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Aside from the basic goal of defending this country, the fact that the "military industrial complex" is a significant component of our economy should demonstrate to you that it benefits all. It employs hundreds of thousands of people and produces quite a bit of beneficial technology.
- dralezero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Population control? Trying to keep everyone in danger in any way possible. Stuff in food, man-made viruses, etc.
- HastyBoom, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3POLICE STATE 08!
- chowdah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Very wrong indeed.
- chowdah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1We just need to catch them getting blow jobs and it will all be over...
- shawnolds, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Don't forget about Themerasol in vaccinations. Nothing like a heaping helping of mercury to short out the brain during your child's most important mental development years.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -7/+7why it is so hard to IMPEACH these guys
with Nixon it seemed so easy
but since they will not resign....IMPEACH
and elect Ron Paul to restore the Constitution - chowdah, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I thought it was starting to get really ***** around 9.11.2001. Where have you been?
- physphd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Raven, as a professor of physics, I don't know what "private science" you're speaking of. If you know of any private sector employment for string theory phenomenologists, I'm all ears.
I'm also sorry you expect to be lied to by people you work everyday to pay to help you. Are you that cowardly and fatalistic in other areas of your life? - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2who the hell is digging down facts, and common sense
i dont understand digg sometimes, why do some fight so hard against the obvious - WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1You mean Hillary or Obama?
- Euph0rik, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Who the hell wrote that article?? "A history which made lose in Lily Allen, with his fans of on the other side of the Atlantic and in George W. Bush their “smiles”!" quite the engrish-illiterate smack kracker, that one.
- RGWX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0Oh yes, noted scholar, historian and eminent thinker Lily Allen. I can hardly wait for her ten-volume study of Post-Cold War geopolitical theory.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Im benefiting from the system so i couldn't care less. I think most of america shares this opinion with me.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0"Do not tell the people anything!"
- WhiteRaven, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2You don't seem to understand the point of this at all. Governmental departments and agency do not hold opinions. They do not desire changes in laws or programs. Governmental agencies are machines that exist only to support *existing* programs. To express an opinion as to what *should* be done while implicitly speaking for a governmental agency is unacceptable. Any unelected governmental employee wishing to express themselves must be careful to distinguish between personal expression and official statement. Anyone who fails to do this needs to be disciplined... it's just common sense.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1how much does ron paul's campaing pay you to go around making these comments? Or are you just a loser with nothing better to do than shill for a politicians that has zero chance of becoming president?
- RGWX, on 10/10/2007, -5/+0Oh the sweet, sweet flava of pure crazy
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5elect ron paul to isolate America from the rest of the world and let us fall even farther behind other economic superpowers. good plan!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Ron paul supporters are the dumbest people on planet earth

What is Digg?
