- jaymzdean, on 04/07/2008, -10/+110I consider those who continue to carry Bush's water to be traitors and a threat to my life and liberty.
- CrazedLeper, on 04/07/2008, -11/+65Never happen. More anthrax will be mailed before any of bushies friends go down.
- peterjones1957, on 04/07/2008, -4/+54I will believe this when I see it.
- mojohandy, on 04/07/2008, -13/+55War crimes? Well, duuuhhhh...
As for the rest of us Good Germans, we couldn't smell a thing, right? - TommyG7, on 04/07/2008, -10/+49Prosecuting everyone in this administration that approved torture and the deaths of so many innocent people is way overdue. Justice does need to be served, but I have lost a lot of faith in our politicians and news media over the last seven years. I would be surprised if everyone involved gets a pass under the umbrella of let bygones be bygone and "lets unite the country".
- NVMojo, on 04/07/2008, -9/+39FINALLY! Now let's get it on!
- Waiting2awake, on 04/07/2008, -3/+26I used to know a German lady that was in Germany at the fall. I asked her several times how Germany's population could allow that to go on, seeing as every German I had met was upright and proper. She had said that they had no idea what was happening in their name. I thought she was just embarrassed and didn't want to talk about it, so they "we didn't know" was a cop out.
Until I watched Americans do the exact same thing. Granted not on the same issues, but the absolutely denial of what is going on because the "father land" would never do that, or if they did do that it had to be done.
At the risk of being dugg down, we have all been through this before. Its time to wake up. - TonyLocNE, on 04/07/2008, -1/+21Just because you voluntarily enlisted to become a solider, doesn't mean you fight for our rights anymore than any one who speaks out against our current administration. The only thing you do with your blind subservience is further hinder any and all real justice is this country. Now I admire you as a veteran, just as I admire both my grandfathers, two uncles, and three cousins who are all veterans, but you have no right whatsoever (aside in the sense of freedom of speech, of which we are all entitled) to deem any critic of this unjust war as hating this country. For those of us who dissent from this absurd, unconstitutional war, we are no less patriots and fellow countrymen than you sir.
- mattbdavis, on 04/07/2008, -4/+23The best part of the article (though everything in it is worth a read):
"I'd also like to quote Greenwald at length here:
"Every day, it becomes more difficult to blame George Bush, Dick Cheney and comrades for their seven years (and counting) of crimes, corruption and destruction of our political values. Think about it this way: if you were a high government official and watched as -- all in a couple of weeks time -- it is revealed, right out in the open, that you suspended the Fourth Amendment, authorized torture, proclaimed yourself empowered to break the law, and sent the nation's top law enforcement officer to lie blatantly about how and why the 9/11 attacks happened so that you could acquire still more unchecked spying power and get rid of lawsuits that would expose what you did, and the political press in this country basically ignored all of that and blathered on about Obama's bowling score and how he eats chocolate, wouldn't you also conclude that you could do anything you want, without limits, and know there will be no consequences? What would be the incentive to stop doing all of that?"
He couldn't be more right, I'm afraid." - felman87, on 04/07/2008, -2/+19Do you support law breakers? huh? Unpatriotic bastard
- ralphthemagi, on 04/07/2008, -2/+19It's not just the Bush administration. Far from it. There exists no real accountability in Washington. Everything bad is someone else's fault, and everything good is to someone else's credit.
Most of the so-called "war crimes" are actions that were made quasi-legal under the US Patriot Act. If you actually want to hold everyone responsible, you'd have to indict pretty much the entire Senate and most of the House for conspiracy. It pretty much just be Kucinich, Paul, and a few others left.
Good luck with that. - SuperMoses, on 04/07/2008, -1/+16Political party over the country is apparently patriotic to these guys.
- adinb, on 04/07/2008, -3/+18Every officer in the military takes an oath to support and defend the constitution of the united states against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The point at which officials suspend/alter the applicability of the constitution is the point that it is legally defendable to forcibly remove said officials from power. Any order by a superior officer contravening the capture and reestablishment of the constitution could be considered unlawful and could be ignored. (it would go to court martial, but would be an interesting case).
I'd like to see the supreme court case about declaring an individual in office an "enemy of the constitution of the US". Screw impeachment, we're talking about the legal basis for something much more serious. - naithom, on 04/07/2008, -4/+19The Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982, the Geneva Convention and since he spoke to Congress directly about going to war knowing that he was lying, perjury before Congress.
Need I go on? - inactive, on 04/07/2008, -2/+16Because when your friends and family go off to die, Dick Cheny brushes it off his shoulder and says meh, they volunteered.
- unmarked, on 04/07/2008, -1/+15How is standing up for the Constitution (and human rights) hatred for this country? Perhaps you missed the oath that Mr. Bush swore -- to protect and uphold the Constitution. Is an administration more important than the cornerstone of this country? Those that stand up for the Constitution love their country enough to speak up and protect it.
- MisteryMeat, on 04/07/2008, -3/+17What exactly do you like about Bush? How is this country better off?
- Myahon, on 04/07/2008, -3/+16As a Republican let me just say I 100% SUPPORT This prosecution. Torture is unconstitutional and these people MUST be held accountable for their shameful action.
I may be a republican but I'm an American first. - Groovemaster, on 04/07/2008, -2/+15Governmental media control and the Nazi propaganda machine were largely responsible for shaping the German psyche during that period, and the same techniques are now being carried out on Americans (and have been for the last several decades).
People in general will always listen to those who tell them what they want to hear, even if their better judgment and integrity tells them it's manipulative *****. - Swivelstick, on 04/07/2008, -1/+13Your troops maybe but I think the rest of troops will disagree with you, also who's freedom were you fighting for. I don't see Iraqi's invading the shores tapping phones or keystrokes nor killing anyone on US soil.
- smacksaw, on 04/07/2008, -3/+14About 8 years ago, yes.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 04/07/2008, -1/+11If Bush is in power or Nancy Pelosi has any say, it'll never happen.
Bush would commute any sentence given and Nancy Pelosi would stop at nothing, to ensure nobody was indicted. - morcheeba, on 04/07/2008, -1/+11I love how bush is always explaining how his job is to protect the us from terrorists. The presidential oath says nothing about that... It does say somthing about protecting the constitution, though.
- pyrotix, on 04/07/2008, -3/+13Hope the secret police don't visit your home because of this comment!
- drakethegreat, on 04/07/2008, -1/+10If being a nut means that you support upholding the constitution then I guess I'm nutty enough to fill an entire walnut grove.
- SuperMoses, on 04/07/2008, -2/+11The video is from MSNBC NOT Huffinton Post... that's like saying "I don't trust that article.. it's coming from Digg.com"
- PeterODactyl, on 04/07/2008, -7/+16We can only hope.
- DigitAl56K, on 04/07/2008, -1/+9Bush and Cheney first.
- cowsonfire, on 04/07/2008, -2/+10Andrew Sullivan (the person who said it, since you obviously didn't read the article) has nothing to do with the huffington post, they were just posting what he said on a TV show.
- Groovemaster, on 04/07/2008, -1/+9OK, I'll amend it to "People in general will tend to... etc" for irritatingly pedantic people like you who perfectly understand the point I'm making but choose to nitpick unnecessarily in order to feed their fragile egos.
- JMellissa, on 04/07/2008, -1/+8Don't forget Bush and Cheney too!
(1) Arrest
(2) Impeach
(3) Hang! - naithom, on 04/07/2008, -2/+8Actually, we have been guilty of extraordinary rendition ie kidnapping, confinement and transfer, an investigation into the Guantanemo inmates has shown that many are innocent of any crimes that comes under the heading of illegal confinement. Also several combatants at abu Ghraib were murdered while in custody.
So it's not as one sided as you might think. - Ne007, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6You obviously have not seen the mass protests outside the whitehouse! Oh yeh...that wasn't televised.....
you can find it on youtube.... - UknowWho97, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6What you're really asking for is us to name one war where a powerful DEMOCRATIC country that is the victor is prosecuted for warcrimes. Well, when's the last time a democratic country blatantly invaded a country, de-stabalized it, and was completely unable to rebuild it, subsequently causing said country to suffer domestically economically, and allow a lying, power hungry administration to stay in office.
This is a unique situation, let's see what happens here. Andrew Sullivan doesn't tend to just blabber about *****, quite a bit of what he says has merit... - skanton, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6What a joke... ***** Bush, bring down the money changers first.
- TheBanch, on 04/07/2008, -4/+9Let's go through some of there shall we?
"Unlawful wanton destruction or appropriation of property --- aka. Collateral Damage (US)
Unlawful deportation, confinement or transfer --- aka. Gitmo (US)
Taking hostages --- "Suspects" we have taken into custody with no evidence (US)
Directing attacks against civilians --- several instances of US soldiers murdering civilians (US)
Killing a surrendered combatant --- I'm sure all US soldiers just holster their weapons when the enemy gives up...
Using civilians as shields - using ethnic and tribal conflicts to our advantage (US)
Using child soldiers - Enticing 14 year old "children" in high school to join the military (US)
You are either too naive or too misinformed to believe the US government doesn't use measures such as these as often as they can. - macinit1138, on 04/07/2008, -0/+5Even if they do somehow succumb magically to the laws of a government that clearly doesn't function with checks and balances any more or for the people for that matter, they'll get a pardon from the next corporate scumbag president elect. The media will sell it to the dumb masses as usual. Best case scenario.
- NecroSexy, on 04/07/2008, -0/+5Being dugg down isn't a risk.
- Mpwns, on 04/07/2008, -1/+6we need to hit the reset button on our government anyways.
- Hangly, on 04/07/2008, -3/+8If you support Bush you are no conservative.
- c4m320n, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5I can only hope I live to see the day public officials pay for their crimes.
- TonyLocNE, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5ummm.... if you didn't read the article.................*allows time for dupems to read article.............................. the huffington post was merely commenting on something that was said on cnbc's "chris matthew's show" which was in turn said by an Andrew Sullivan from The Atlantic.
- anillop, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5Yeah rather than worrying about war crimes we should get back to the important priorities of congress like saving brain dead women from having their plugs pulled, and funding Iraq War victory parties.
- ChristPissed, on 04/07/2008, -1/+5Amen and raise the guillotine blade.
- pigfister, on 04/07/2008, -5/+9he has already pardoned himself with the "war crimes bill"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGnaSN5Twq8 - HalfGiraffe, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4War crimes? Let's start with the real traitors: Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Wurmser and the rest of the moles in the Bush administration. The Iraq adventure was dreamed up by the policy advisors for Israel's right-wing Likkud party. The intelligence coup of the century for Israel, the worst foreign policy disaster EVER for the US.
- murrowman, on 04/07/2008, -2/+6We really needed that?
- NonServium, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4"Our" enemies? Our enemies are the people in DC who attacked us on 9-11, not this mythical Al Qaeda/Iraqi civilian/Iranian civilian/whoever-the-hell-else-the-neocons-want-to-bomb hybrid.
- smacksaw, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4I don't care who is in charge, I will call them out on it. Just because I like someone doesn't mean I can abide their crimes.
Then again, I'm not susceptible to blind partisanship like you appear to be... - jeremyduffy, on 04/07/2008, -0/+4Huh. Prosecuting people involved with war crimes is "stupid crap"? You're a real treasure.
