- DaedalusX, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15It stopped being BREAKING 24 hours ago.
- NotAChickenHawk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Brownie you're doing a heckuva job!
Nicky, you're doing a heckuva job too!
How many other high level Bush admin officials are completely unqualified other than their political connections? How many of them have truely important jobs like this guy? (cough... Chertoff ... cough) Its sick...
By the way, I hope everyone reading this story stops and takes notes on how Mr. Bush supports the troops. If you're a U.S. solider today, thanks to Bush, you get to - fight a useless war (with no plan, no workable strategy and no political will to resolve the war in any way except militarily), deploy as many times as necessary with little or no break in between, face a lack of equipment or be forced to use inferior equipment, if you die in combat he'll give your family the finger, and if you're merely wounded he'll put an incompetent, political crony in charge of your recovery.
- obliviousfool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Ah! The private sector will be clamoring for the awesome skills of these people!
- Timetheos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Heckava job!
- rmxz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Why not fired instead of resigned.
If the republican party wants to regain any of the respect they've lost, why aren't they firing these guys instead of accepting resignations. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Actually many people in presidentially-appointed positions start resigning within the last year and a half of the presidency. This is because they don't want to get suck dealing with the end-of-presidency operations of their respective agencies and they want to hit the job market before it's flooded with other people that previously held presidentially-appointed positions.
- TheBarge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Like making laptops and thumb drives with veteran's personal information disappear!
- geoff1210, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5please god. stop breaking the stories i am trying to read.
- adinb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Hmmm, maybe this means that the VA will start sending me my disability checks.
Nah, unfortunately doesn't seem to matter much who's at the top, the bureaucracy is always going to delay and distract.
::sigh:: - willdigg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Guess some of those veterans coming in for something so simple as 'dental problems' means Jim Nichloson did not have enough work to do to justify keeping his job. He certainly gave a poor representation of what the VA is faced with in reality based terms in his interview on the Bob Woodruff ABC special report about U.S. troops suffering widespread Brain Trauma Injuries. VA lacking resources in VA facilities across the nation to care for BTI and Jim Nicholson counters that troops come in for a lot of different things - like dental work. Sicko - Jim Nicholson - Sicko
- eric4ok, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"Raising close to $380 Million for the 2000 cycle..." is the answer.
- fpcyber, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5For once, submitter didn't write it BREAKING in uppercase. Though breaking is still misleading.
- havesometea, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3WTF? It isn't Friday yet is it?
- Pimptastic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2so defiantly more combat than Clinton and Gore had.
- nevetS, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Cue the Bush speech:
Jimmy is a good man. He's a family man. He's done some hard work... some Good Work for us. When he got started, there were hardly any veterans with immediate medical needs. His hard work increased the numbers at VA medical centers around the country to previously unheard of levels. (cover mic) What's that? Oh. Get a hold of the standard group. Make sure nobody is broadcasting live(uncover mic) Heh heh. I support Jimmy. Like I said, he's done good work for us. 9-11. Terror. Iran. Al Qaeda. The economy is booming. The jobless rate is lower than it ever has been. 8 satisfactory marks. That's like a B+. No child left behind. Faith based funding. 9-11. Terror. They're trying to get a bomb. Jimmy good. Saddam Bad. Yes - question from Fox? That's a good question Bill. I'll tell you this. I'm the decider. Question from MSNBC? What's that? I can't hear you. Sorry. Speak up next time. New York Times - your next. September? It's very hot in the month of september in Iraq. As you know I've been there, supporting our troops. This isn't a deadline. It might come on September 15th, it could come on October or November 15th. You have to trust the generals and trust the Iraqi's. The American people have trust and faith. We will not change course. That's all for today. 9-11, terror, Iran, Iraq, al qaeda. - Grumps, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Who had affair with veterans?
- Dysarthria, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I guess the fact that the VA doesn't oversee Walter Reed (a US Army medical center overseen ultimately by by the US Army Surgeon General) has escaped everyone. Oh well, who cares about the facts, its a good story.
- Pimptastic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2your joking right? Benefits for veterans have been ***** for a hell of a long time. Democrats have screwed us over, republicans have screwed us over, independents have screwed us over.
Though Bush has raised our benefits from piss poor to totally unacceptable. My governor has screwed Veterans in my state over more than anyone in the federal government. - GonzoLiga, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why Digg this down? Truth hurts, even on trivial issues, you egotistical .........
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Yeah, this sure is Breaking. The only thing this is breaking is my respect for mcorleyTP, the asshat submitter.
- lordjeebus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Just thought I'd point out that Walter Reed is run by the Department of Defense, not the VA
- TroubleInMind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're breaking my balls.
- faithhealer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1How about just ignoring the "breaking" part and just digg or not digg it based on the article!
- LeeSoong, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Now, with an large influx of Veteran's coming home in the next 10 or 20 years after the pacification & neutralization of Iran, the Veterans will need more help than ever.
- OakRidger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2It doesn't matter - veterans as a whole are still screwed. Whether under a democrat or republican, the veteran is the last thing on their mind. I'm still waiting to see if they change the GI Bill to life time use instead of just ten years.
- mal1964, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1He must be on the list.
- dcoolidge, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Dugg just 'cause it has breaking in the title and so many people hate it.
- ReturnToFreedom, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Another brick of the building we need to demolish has been removed.
I hope more good news follows. - mrswirl, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Totally unrelated to the article but I once sat behind Mr. Nicholson and his Secret Service bodyguard on a flight from Albuquerque. We were all waiting around the gate when a big contingent of cops and plain clothes agents flanking him converged on the terminal.
It was obvious he was some kind of VIP but nobody had any idea who he was. I had to look him up on the tubes later. That was my "Brush with Greatness" story.
**prepares to get Dugg down because nobody else cares** - GonzoLiga, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1NotAChickenHawk, you're doing a heckuva job!
You'll be fired soon. - VitriolAndAngst, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Why would this guy rate a Secret Service detail as head of the VA?
The image of "jack boots" comes to mind. If you are doing the people's work, and aren't famous -- you don't need such security. But if you are a crony for robber barons -- you do. - GonzoLiga, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Submitter: "Nicholson ’s primary qualification for the VA job was serving as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1997 to 2000, “raising close to $380 million for the 2000 cycle.”
Well, in the interest of full disclosure, that's not his ONLY qualification. Read on:
--U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See (that's the Vatican for you non-Illuminati, non-Papist, non-World Bank-controlling heathens)
--As a lawyer, specialized in real estate, municipal finance and zoning law
--Builder of quality custom homes
(OTOH, he IS an Army Vietnam vet, but received no significant decorations. No, the Bronze Star is NOT significant, except to Marines who rarely receive one despite their tough work; the Bronze Star with valor would be a different story for all services.)
So there, Doubting Diggers. Now you see what qualifications you need if you ever want to run a major government department. - VitriolAndAngst, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0None of that seems to have much to do with medical care.
- MonsterChaOS, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2It's about time!
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0The Democrats have consistently been pushing for MORE veterans benefits.
If you paint with a broad brush like that, you let the bad get away with their crimes -- since there is no advantage to doing the right thing, when voters don't notice. - withears, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Another crony bites the dust.
- vfx2k4, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0At least this jagoff saw combat in 'Nam. More than we can say for the Commander in Chief and his Dick(cheney that is). Jan 20, 2009 Countdown continues...

- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Depleted Uranium is WMD
Tell the soldier the truth about Depleted Uranium, and the soldier won't go to war.
It's too bad the soldier doesn't know, Depleted Uranium kills, and the soldier is expendable.
350 tons used in the first Gulf War, and the current Iraq war has expended an estimated 5 times more tonnage of DU than was used in the first Gulf War.
The U.S. has used more depleted uranium since 1991 than the atomicity equivalent of 400,000 Nagasaki bombs.
Since 1943 the military has been aware of the extreme toxicity of uranium as a gas.
Of the veterans who served in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, more than 300,000 have sought VA healthcare, and more than 200,000 have filed VA disability claims.
518,000 Gulf-era vets in 2004 are now on medical disability.
Four reasons why using depleted uranium weapons violates the UN Convention on Human Rights:
The United States Government are horrific liars!
LEGALITY TEST FOR WEAPONS UNDER INTERNATIONAL LAW
Four reasons why using depleted uranium weapons violates the UN Convention on Human Rights:
TEMPORAL TEST – Weapons must not continue to act after the battle is over.
ENVIRONMENTAL TEST – Weapons must not be unduly harmful to the environment.
TERRITORIAL TEST – Weapons must not act off of the battlefield.
HUMANENESS TEST – Weapons must not kill or wound inhumanly.
