- georip, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2We the people need a formal method for deciding the great issues of our times other than going marching and protesting. We are so proud of having a democracy, why don't we use it, directly? Eternal vigilance of the sovereign citizens requires an informed public and deliberation and then should be backed up by their ability to take action. For 160 years the Swiss have gone to the ballot box 4 times a year to vote directly on the major issues of their governance. They outline their desires and leave the details to the politicians whose work is consistently reviewed. In America we have to wait 2,4, or 6 years to have the opportunity to remove someone or to give away our vote to some other indentured politician. By that time it is too late to prevent tragedy. The people support impeachment because the moral and legal cause is clear and yet the people who boss us around tell us it is off the table. I suggest direct democracy (www.ni4d.us) is the way the people can justly "take back America" and keep it.
- PIZZED, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Well, the rest of you can fall for the "sudden change of mind"... but before you do, how about thinking it out? In the FIRST place. BEFORE the election, Conyers had 38 co-sponsors, most of whom were elected BECAUSE they were for impeachment. AS SOON AS THE ELECTION WAS OVER they all reneged. Since then, Waters, Lee & Woolsey refused to even consider impeachment and Conyers has RIDICULED THE VERY IDEA OF IMPEACHMENT. They all seemed to have the same 'reasons' - that it would 'take too long' it would 'be divisive' it would harm dem chances for '08 --- all the stupid NONreasons parroted from AIPAC-Pelosi.
Doesn't it seem awfully damned strange that NOW they're all changing their minds BACK again......
AFTER THEY STALLED FOR ENOUGH TIME TO GIVE BUSH MORE FUNDING TO PROLONG THAT *^#*^@# WAR ----
Please don't forget that BOTH partys feed at the SAME CORPORATE TROUGH!!
They knew what they were doing - they were flat out paying their dues to their Corporate-Owners!
I think we should ALL shoot the horse we rode in on and put BOTH the Dem AND the Repub Partys in the ditch! http://www.unity08.com/about this is a GOOD idea ~ even IF you chicken out and 'vote your party' in '08 ---- as long as we ALL support this No-Party party in the meantime - to send the Corporate-Party MACHINES a message that will scare the dickens out of them - maybe a few of the Politicians would have a sudden memory-recovery and recall that they are supposed to be representing the People instead of the corporations. (and who knows? depending on what candidates unity08 ends up with, it could very well work - after all, BOTH dem and repub VOTERS are FED UP! If a third party ever would have a chance, it would be in '08!
If you need a brain-jolt, just ask yourself WHY any candidate "needs" millions and millions of campaign dollars in an age when they can instantly reach the Voters? - and WHY they "need" to spend TWO YEARS CAMPAIGNING?
Dontcha kinda wonder what sort of "senators" they're being when they're doing nothing but Fundraising and biting and scratching for attention all this time???? Campaign time could EASILY be limited to 6 moths or under!
With VERY RARE exception, the SELF-SERVING Dem politicians are ALL "American-Zionists" joined at the hip with the self-serving Repub politicians - ALL KNEELING to their Corporate Gods.
(and, btw, that's not 'anti-semitic', I use 'zionist' to describe the radical fanatic Israelis)
