- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -4/+21The Bushies pulled out the stops overseas in an orgy of begging and promising in order to get a nearly unanimous vote condemning Iran by the UN Security Council a week ago.
Do these two events point in the same direction? Is the Pope Catholic? - SheilaNoya, on 03/11/2008, -5/+20Sounds like Bush is preparing for a trumped up military scuffle with Iran before the elections to make the gullible sheep think we need McCain as President. Fallon was the one sane man trying to stop Bush and his NeoCon war mongers from pursuing their bully tactics and a possible new war with Iran.
This is NOT good. - jstohler, on 03/11/2008, -3/+14Predicted days ago, and lo it has come to pass: http://thinkprogress.org/2008/03/05/fallon-bush-fi ...
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -1/+11Admiral Fallon will be sorely missed. Admiral Fallon is one of the true patriots. However, I can't blame him for resigning either.
- dagraybehl, on 03/12/2008, -1/+8Just because someone disagrees with our president, he is forced out of his position? This is ridiculous.. something needs to be done to get Bush out of power!
IMPEACH BUSH 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Insightful, on 03/11/2008, -3/+9Great. Another Shinseki on our hands? When will the military bravely stand up to their political counterparts? We are stretched to the limit in Iraw and Afghanistan and now Iran?
Can we say $5 gallon of gas and record profits for Exxon, KBR, Blackwater, Boeing/Raytheon?
Oh that's right, I am getting a $1200 stimulus check from the guhvernment (that my children will pay dearly), that should shut me up. /sarcasm - syroncoda, on 03/11/2008, -2/+7war with Iran would be the worst thing for this country. the Iraq war is obviously failing and the bush administration are losing some of their sheeple support but with some snazzy marketing before the November elections I'm sure they'll have enough republican sheeple support to push congress into another stupid idea and money sinkhole. more death, more destruction, more lies, more money lost or stolen or "misplaced", and more pathetic politicians arguing about ***** in order to get paid more and in the end they claim it wasn't their fault and get away with it all in their big fancy houses and free health care.
yeah this will be interesting. - jstohler, on 03/11/2008, -0/+5CNN is definitely playing it big.
- amy31415, on 03/11/2008, -3/+8This is absolutely insane and set the stage for war in Iran. Iran's allies include China and Russia, just to name a few.
It will truly be WWIII if this happens. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -1/+6You're assuming this administration is rational. They are in some ways insane, in that they refuse to admit reality and substitute either wishful thinking or outright lies. A war with Iran would deflect some of the current problems but make them worse by extending them. It could potentially allow martial law, if some wartime emergency excuse was used. Might even be used as a pretext for delaying elections during wartime. I just do not trust this crew in any way.
- liberteebell, on 03/11/2008, -3/+8Somebody please check jorge boosh's meds. He's getting more insane by the day.
- SilentSpyder, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4Can we please stop with the BREAKING! Once this hits the frontpage it'll be yesterdays news.
- wreckosaurus, on 03/12/2008, -0/+4***** 2008, hurry up and end already.
- inactive, on 03/12/2008, -0/+3A comment that is actually beneath contempt
- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -1/+4Fortunately, the price of oil is a bigger impediment to an attack on Iran than Fallon.
The power of the Israeli lobby is the only thing that keeps it in play and it is a very weak play at this point.
Looks like they are on their own on this one...... - odigity, on 03/12/2008, -1/+3The Democrats are not going to change our foreign policy. The office has changed parties a dozen times in the last hundred years, foreign policy never, ever changes. Obama won't either.
- RuffRidr, on 03/12/2008, -0/+2Yawn. How many times in the last four years have I heard this?
- neocognitism, on 03/11/2008, -6/+7At this point I don't think there's enough time logistically to start anything with Iran. I also think it would be a terrible time politically to start anything with Iran, for the Republicans. Any such act would dominate the media and return America's attention to the one issue Republicans most wish to avoid -- Iraq. Everybody has read how Republicans are relieved that Iraq is no longer on page one every day, as sick as that is since they're the most for our soldiers dying.
Another issue that would be raised during this time which Republicans, and lots of Democrats including Hillary, do not want to bring front and center is our Israel Lobby and our Israel policy. Doubly dangerous for them is the AIPAC traitor trial that is starting up again now, and the MSM sorely wishes to avoid attention towards their lack of coverage of this trial.
So my personal conjecture at this point is Fallon may have waited until there was no effective reason for him to continue publicly being the high-ranking guy stopping any attack on Iran. And for anybody comparing him to Shinseki, just look at how long Fallon has been saying what he's been saying. - inactive, on 03/11/2008, -5/+6In case you didn't notice, no one get's "fired" from the Bush administration.
Every single one has "offered" a resignation.
At that level you are given a chance to resign before being terminated.
Even many large corporations work the same way. The one I'm at now would give me a chance to resign if they were going to fire me. - wreckosaurus, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1It won't be good, but I doubt we'll see WWIII. Iran has ties to China and Russia, but they're not exactly close pals.
- grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1This is madness
- neocognitism, on 03/12/2008, -1/+2Yeah, good point. Not being prepared for something by assuming it won't happen almost invites it into your home. Gotta make sure we stay vocal about the situation.
It's just that CNN picked it up. I pretty much look at CNN as the standard disinformation machine at this point. FOX is a sideshow at this point. The way they word things is always a good gauge of what the underlying policy objectives are. So I'm surprised CNN would cover this at all. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -1/+2The only missing component for war with Iran is the long-awaited false-flag terror attack by Mossad or some agency-without-a-name. It will of course be blamed on Iran and the Bad People will have their war of conquest. Remember, Iran has three times the population of Iraq, so expect this war to be big.
- amy31415, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1When it comes to oil, the majority of China's is from Iran, they will defend it. China's prosperity depends on it.
Look what we've done over oil. - Waiting2awake, on 03/12/2008, -0/+1Right. There is simply no way that the US government would do what, even to laymen, are clearly suicidal. Like the housing bubble, the lies over the war, the signing statements, the spying, the torture.....
Nope, but if you had a government that seemed hell bent on destroying your country - I'd be worried. But with recent history in mind - who could think that ? - ccheath, on 03/12/2008, -2/+2i thought that the pope was a nazi, no?
- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -4/+3Bush has basically 10 months left. You're saying he's going to try to start a war now, which will anger all of the American people? Then either McCain will have to back the president or not back the president, which will either way destroy his chances at winning--especially against the anti-war Democratic candidate. Americans will be furious if they try to start another war--don't forget how low Bush's approval rating is.
I'm just too sick of seeing these "war with Iran imminent!" things on the internet. They've been around for 5 years now, and nothing has happened. This is the least likely time for war with Iran. It's just not going to happen.
And again, by saying "Fallon was the one sane man trying to stop Bush and his NeoCon war mongers," you're just showing why Fallon left. - inactive, on 03/12/2008, -2/+1Yes, of course he's going to start a war now. His masters are worried that a non-war-starting president may somehow make it to the White House, so they need to make hay while the sun still shines, so to speak. Dumbass.
- inactive, on 03/11/2008, -10/+3He resigned *because* of all this stuff just like the ***** you're all posting now. Note the difference between "resigned" and "fired." Bush isn't attacking Iran with 10 months left in his presidency. But Fallon realized he can't be sitting CENTCOM Commander when people are constantly misquoting him and making him look like a rebel.
I'm sad to see him go because Fallon was quite an amazing person.
