United States Of Paranoia. - Cerialthriller, on 10/10/2007, -5/+67bye bye plane
- skjede, on 10/10/2007, -6/+67This is ***** pathetic. Can't airlines make a "no-fly" lists based on any other parameter than first and last names? I'm sure more than one Michael Martin exists.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+49Thank God... I feel so much safer. We can't take any chances, or the terrorists might get us ALL!
- goeatsmsht, on 10/10/2007, -4/+37"Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? - theinept, on 10/10/2007, -5/+36Most 7 year olds are terrors, if not terrorists. Skateboarding? Playing drums? You just know he's one of them!
I, for one, am pleased to see that the government is finally scrutinizing other people's awful children and denying them access to airplanes. Next we need a no dine list to keep them out of restaurants and a no watch list to keep them out of movies. - cankillar, on 10/10/2007, -7/+34What's gonna happen when he's an adult? Is he gonna get rushed by feds when he walks in the door? Held for 14 days under the Patriot Act so he can fly home for the summer?
Sometimes I hate this country. - Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27Can we have a "no shopping" list as well. I hate it when people go grocery shopping to shout at their kids.
- Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22Yeah but that happens to lots of people who are equally innocent - although evidence that they are not terrorists is not as forthcoming as a boy who is only 7. What if he was 47. People literally have real trouble flying because paranoia soaked people have conditioned themselves into a state of post traumatic nervous breakdown over terrorism.
The fact that a boy of 7 could have trouble means that anybody else could. Its not as if the list would achieve anything anyway. What are the names the 9-11 hijackers used to board their planes again? Nobody knows. In fact the supposed photographs of these men that dies that they released, have had turned up alive across the world. - Depthfunction, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22Why do first graders hate America?
- zyl0x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Look out! He's got a Ninja Turtles action figure!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17The stupid thing is a terrorist has like 10 names and is always changing his/her identity. Do you think this boy is gonna take the time and money to change his name?
That is your GOP run government at work for you! - Tarnum, on 10/10/2007, -2/+16Bye Bye Plane. Bye Bye Plaaane. Bye Bye Plaaaane. Bye Bye Planeee. Bye Bye Plane. Bye Bye Plaaane. Bye Bye Plaaaane. Bye Bye Planeee. Bye Bye Plane. Bye Bye Plaaane. Bye Bye Plaaaane. Bye Bye Planeee. Bye Bye Plane. Bye Bye Plaaane. Bye Bye Plaaaane. Bye Bye Planeee. Bye Bye Plane.
- john2kx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13aren't there probably like 20,000 Michael Martins in the US? Wouldn't this kind of thing inconvenience every Michael Martin out there?
- ColonelGS, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I agree. Their whining is terrorizing the World! We must put a stop to this!
- kurtwinter, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Let's see how funny it is to you when you get on a list that you can't challenge. Ppl like you make me sick.
- Otto, on 10/10/2007, -4/+13No, actually, it is a big deal. Why? Because the "no-fly list" is clearly useless. They flagged a 7 year old boy. Why is he on this list? Why is it flagging him? If it gets false positives, then it's not really working, is it?
- joewashere, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Im not on the no-fly list...but I am Afghan...oh god...the "random" checks...it sucks
- helikopter, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8that's why it's a stupid idea.
- Shdwdrgn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9"The list was created in December 2003 as a means to consolidate all watch lists and allow law enforcement agencies to quickly determine if a person is a suspected terrorist"
Yeah because obviously you can unmistakably identify everyone in the US by only their first and last name. ***** government morons. - beriadan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Now lets get John Smith on the list.
- tjr7n, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'm in the same boat as this kid. Every time I fly I have to go to the counter and hand over my drivers license and/or passport so the manager can go into the back room and call the TSA. The process takes anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes, not including the extra time waiting in line when a normal person could just use a kiosk. It is irritating because of the time factor and because I didn't do anything to get on the No Fly list. Some guy out there with my (somewhat common) name did something and it is shafting me.
It bugs me for the same reason it bugs black folks to get pulled for a DWB--people in positions of authority are using fewer parameters than they should be to make a judgement about my behavior. At best it is a waste of time for everyone. At worst there are privacy concerns about 'list sharing' among branches of the federal government. - notman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I'm curious what happens once this kid becomes an adult. Will he not be able to fly? Or is just going to get hassled every time he does?
- aceallways, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6you buy a bunch of euros, and profit off of changing exchange rates
- jebus123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Yop, there is more than one Micheal Martin and they are all in the same boat as far as the no fly list is concerned. Hope you feel safer now.
- LarryLacuna, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6If he was a real threat, he wouldn't be on the list. Duh.
- ickis3, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8do you think any terrorist on that list would use their real name when booking a flight?
- wheelfoot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Note: I did see in the article that there is a convicted terrorist named Michael Martin as well. Do you think for a second that he would travel under his own name? Also, don't you think there is a more efficient way to screen him out than hassling every other Michael Martin in the world?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7stop lying. please I know it's a symptom of Conservatives but I'm tired of it.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4sometimes? brother, my hate for the school lunches in this country makes me want to commit global jihad upon this countries cafeterias - Little boy terrorist
- sephiroth965, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4The point is they should have more info on these people than just a first and last name.
- KevenM, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Shocking what you can find out when you actually READ the article you're commenting on: "There is an Irish terrorist named Michael Martin who was convicted in 1995 of taking part in an Arizona smuggling ring that attempted to ship bomb detonators to the Irish Republican Army, according to the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism, a nonprofit organization based in Oklahoma City. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison."
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Uhh you know the answer to that is no, why did you ask that question?
Ted Kennedy was on the list if you remember correctly, or maybe you don't, cause you seem to be either really really dumb, or this question was some clever way to discredit my comment somehow. - winmywii, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5They should have called that cop from the skateboard video. He would have taken care of this punk.
- Learn2Think, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Hum, may be we don't blame the terrorists because they ARE terrorist and nothing else can be expected from them BUT our elected officials are suppose to use their brain and avoid dumb situations like these where 7-year old kids, senators, whole family of the president of a country end up on these meaningless lists.
It is people like you that allow the politicians and govt workers to hide their every incompetence and misadventure behind ' BARBARIANS ARE AT THE GATE' excuse - williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5This is ***** up because there is no individual who can be held to account and punished for this travesty. There ought to be a law making government officials liable for situations like this.
- helikopter, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6how about a "no go outside" list. I'M SICK OF THESE LITTLE ***** HORSIN' AROUND ON MY LAWN!!!
- V3n0M, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sure, it's a minor hassle now, but what happens when he tries to fly 20 years from now?
- Albionshores, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4There is a process, your cases are scanned, you walk through a detector, you have passports and tickets. You then have armed people on the plane and the pilots are locked in.
- sephiroth965, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4We are a constitutional republic. Now please stop arguing semantics.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5"Children on the no-fly list is just a myth - TSA" Another government sponsored c-y-a imbecilic and easily debunked LIE.
- rabidrabit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4My son is on the no fly list, he has been for all three years of his life. They told us there was no way to remove him from it.
- pixelbasic, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Cerialthriller, I'm with the Office of Homeland Security. Would you please step over here? We would like to have a word with you.
- baalzebub, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4to hell with the commercial airline industry, i would no get on a commercial flight to save my ass from hell, i put myself on my own "No-Fly" list by simply refusing to use their services...
i rather drive in my own car... - Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3CAAVITY SEEAAARCH! *crowd laughs and applauds* HOMELAND, YOU CRACK ME UP!
Heil Hitla! *thumbs up* - MarkOfTheDead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4you don't need to. half of them are on xbox live. turn on your headset, you'll see.
- williamdyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3DON'T get fingerprinted if you can help it. Very bad stuff.
- cundo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It's not about the inconvenience to Michael Martins. It's about making Bush feel safe.
- crossmr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5sometimes?
- Devrdander, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5My Dad is screwed! bet he's cursing his generic name...
