- HopeMonger, on 03/18/2008, -22/+47How in a day of such simple fact checking ability and google - do people believe the lies he constantly spoon feeds the American Public?
- DaDrake, on 03/18/2008, -5/+26Sorry, but Wright is a racist.... and represents all that is wrong in the world. You just don't "slip up" and spew that crap randomly. Furthermore, the pastor was known to be a radical around the city (see wall street journal).
To me, technically he is an American but certainly no patriot.... worst, he is a fear-mongering, racist, a-hold. - irvman21, on 03/18/2008, -9/+26How does one take "USKKK of A" out of context? This guy is a racist, not quite to the David Duke or Louis Farrakhan level, but he's far more racist than anyone I would be friends with.
- BlackholeStorm, on 03/18/2008, -4/+16I might get dug down for this, but when a guy screams "GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!" at the top of his lungs a bunch of times, that seems pretty anti american.
- flip2trip, on 03/18/2008, -13/+25Do you guys READ the story or just the headline and the poster's comments? I swear I get so tired of the 3rd grade level of intelligence in here. If this preacher was white and spewing this crap AND he had been McCain's pastor for the past 20 years, the liberals would be screaming bloody murder. Obama's answer that he wasn't there is a big fricken' horse-turd and you guys are saying it smells like a rose.
- masterm1nd, on 03/18/2008, -6/+17submitter, why don't you tell me 1 possible context that would make his comments not racist and anti American?
- LucidGenius, on 03/18/2008, -4/+14Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
This is one of Bill O'Lielly's correct times. - insonh, on 03/18/2008, -1/+10Wright attacked himself
it was the classic "open mouth insert foot" attack
American is getting tired of the race card
Oreily is only the messenger - NoDrama, on 03/18/2008, -13/+22O'Reilly's tools are much the same as Wrights, ironically: hyperbolic rhetoric. The difference seems to be that O'Reilly's advantage is a wider audience, whereas Wright's advantage is being black (Thanks, Ms. Ferraro, without your guidance I'd possibly have had nothing more than education to cite as Wright's advantage. You opened my eyes.)
- oldhick, on 03/18/2008, -5/+14I love how the author does the exact same thing that they are accusing Bill of doing... I think he's an obnoxious blow hard, but I can't see how he's "lying" as the author says. Wright, is a complete and total douche bag on every level. He's the kind of person that divides rather than unifies. He preaches vitriol and hate. He's a self aggrandizing sack and he has thousands of documented instances of saying the United States of KKK, God Damn America, we created AIDs, blah blah blah...
Screw him and screw people defending him. Now does this mean that Obama is in trouble? I don't know. I think we must certainly judge a man by the company he keeps, but Obama certainly doesn't spew the crap that Wright does. I guess time will tell. - ellem, on 03/18/2008, -0/+8uh, what's the context the Wright's statements are sane?
How does one horseshoe "America invented AIDS to kill black men" into a sane thought? - flip2trip, on 03/18/2008, -5/+13Do you even know what an opinion is? The "Talking Points" section of O'Reilly's show is his OPINION--get a clue Skippy.
- kino101, on 03/18/2008, -10/+18If I were to attempt to tell stories like this I would be sued out of existance...Why do some get 'permission' to lie, so completly, and so consistantly? Anyone can go back and see for themselves what a self-serving bag of gas reilly is, why hasn't fox been brought to court? Maybe the same sort of cover that our president enjoys, who can say the constitution is "just a goddamn piece of paper", and no one speakes out?
Rush is busted up serious drug charges, still has his job, try that yourself...The bias is soooo obvious, why are the people who vote, pay their taxes still putting up with this?
A serious problem, and not being solved through the regular channels. Anyone have an idea how to turn this circus wagon around?? - masterm1nd, on 03/18/2008, -1/+9I think that comment Hillary's 'person' made turned out to come true. If it were the other way around with the same comments from pastor of 20 years, McCain or anyone else would be finished instantaneously. I still don't get how Americans can defend the guy and defend Obama without yet getting the whole story.
- masterm1nd, on 03/18/2008, -2/+9Just like magic, that does NOT help any of his many more than one occasion ***** up quotes.
- markgl, on 03/18/2008, -0/+7what are you guys talking about? Did you not hear what wright has been saying? What the hell else do you need to see that he doesn't like the country he lives in? BIll didn't lie about anything. He's not the only one questioning the reverend.
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -6/+12Barack HUSSEIN Obama it's over buddy:
1: Most liberal senator 2: Attends the church of an American hating minister 3: Key mentor is a madman minister 4: Married to a woman that is not proud of being an American (until her husband ran for office) 5: Wishes to spend 1% of US GDP supporting marxist african nations - Cyberdactyl, on 03/18/2008, -2/+7Bill O'Reilly may get over zealous a LOT, but it's over-the-top crystal clear he's nailed this one.
I've been to a bunch of churches in my life, and cannot fathom a preacher spewing such hate-filled rhetoric with such vigor. And don't feed me the TOTAL BS he's being, "taken out of context"'. - badtzmartin, on 03/18/2008, -2/+7What LIE? He DIDN'T say "GOD DAMN AMERICA"? He DIDN'T say that Bill "did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky"?
- diggit83, on 03/18/2008, -1/+6Check him out on youtube...he is a nutjob racist ANTI AMERICAN........
Its true. I just hope Obama can convince the american people that he doesnt share these views. - masterm1nd, on 03/18/2008, -2/+7Wow, and to think you are being 100% serious.
- offcenter, on 03/18/2008, -0/+5I think you guys are being naive about black liberation theology -- these guys are completely off the reservation.
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/JC18Aa01.h ... - fleischner, on 03/18/2008, -0/+4We should check the New York Times to see what it says about... oh never mind. The NYT has NEVER printed Wright's quotes. All the news that fits, they print.
- spaceman84, on 03/18/2008, -5/+9Olbermann has good intentions, but his histrionics get to be pretty grating. If only he were able to state his case in a calm, reasonable manner. He is no Edward Murrow.
- LucidGenius, on 03/18/2008, -4/+8O'Rielly and Rush are both admittedly anti-liberal. Therefore anything they say must be taken in that context.
However, that doesn't change the fact that Rev Wright spews racism and hate. It doesn't take a genius to go to youtube and watch for yourself. - inactive, on 03/18/2008, -8/+12ell3:
Don't forget that 1 in 300 people in the USA could be considered terrorist, are you one? Not being an American and taking on American politics as you do and with a sharp divisive opinions makes YOU suspect because you hide your true motives. Americans have motivation for being on a site about American politics. What could be you motivation? destruction? It's not healthy for Americans to have your insipid racist remarks or your undiluted full strength support for an unpopular divisive political party. WHY? - aleahey, on 03/18/2008, -2/+5I agree Bill O'Reilly is a windbag, and a misleading one at that. However, in reference to the OP's comments, I don't see how his having "tens of thousands of minutes of preaching" does anything to counteract the 3.
- BillDoE, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3Bill'O - "And even today as the story picked up steam, CNN is ignoring it. So once again, we have a dilemma."
Funny, CNN, and everyone else is playing the clip so often, I can't frigging stand it any longer. The problem with "NEWS" today is that they all get one sound bite, and play it over and over and over again. There is no reporting. Just stupid commentary and opinion. - bpopp, on 03/18/2008, -1/+4I'm a huge Obama fan, but Jeremiah Wright is a loon. Personally, I don't understand why such an intelligent man as Obama would stay in a church with a person saying stuff like that. It is a little disturbing. I also don't understand why any of you would try to defend a person like this? Oh yeah, you're 12.
- flip2trip, on 03/18/2008, -6/+9And just exactly what are you sniffing?
- Chaya, on 03/18/2008, -1/+4It's not just three minutes. I saw clip after clip after clip of Wright saying defamatory things!
- thcobbs, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3Quit spamming you racism apologist!
- nblsavage, on 03/18/2008, -6/+9After accusing Ben Stein of being a liberal, you've pretty much blown any chance of anyone caring about your opinion.
- Hetman, on 03/18/2008, -0/+3All preachers are haters. They hate on everyone. It is like part of the job description. Who cares what Rev. Jeremiah Wright said. Regardless of what he said it is not half as crazy as the words that come out huckbees mouth and that dewd might actually be a vice president.
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -5/+8You had me at O'Reilly being a hack... then you use the typical rhetoric of your kind to garner support. You're pathetic in every sense and syllable of the word.
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Sadly (s)he is being dugg down by grammar-nazis concerned more about paragraphs than the future freedom of the North American continent.
Oh the irony. - Arkaris01, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3People will believe what they are told to believe. Many great quotes have been put about this. Forgive me for not having the exact quote handy, one was said that in order to control this current generation, all you had to control was the music. Ever seen V for Vendetta? The whole concept was inoculating people with constant reality, Equilibrium makes this same point. Less than 1% of the entire population of the Earth ever really breaks free of being able to get beyond believing what is placed in front of them (and I am not among those special few). Hitler said it best, "If you tell a lie loud enough, long enough, and often enough the people will believe it." Follow that up with "Every great lie is based in truth" and you have a complete paradigm of how to influence people to your belief. It might take 1 time hearing it or it might take 3 years of constant barraging but eventually we almost all believe what we are told to.
- johnhummel, on 03/18/2008, -2/+4Actually, I have. I'm trying to figure out just what he said that was so racist. Was it when he said that white rich people had control of America? I mean - damn, that's really racist! I'm looking at the presidency, and the senate, and congress, and the boards of CEO's in the country, and the governors of states - how dare Wright say that the US is controlled by rich white men! What racism!
- Arkaris01, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2@johnhummel: If he would have said rich people, I would have no problems with anything Wright said, in that segment. But when he cast a division among the riches, by segmenting WHITES as the problem, I have issues with that. It would be the equivalent of some political white getting up and saying the problem with prisons is black people. You CANNOT say such things, AT ALL. They are racist statements, period. If Wright would have said the problem with America is politicians, no problem there. But he cast the lot as all rich white men, includes Bill Gates, whose wife has started up a huge charity. It includes the majority of our founding forefathers who fought for the abolitionist movement. He is wielding a two-edged sword that not only cuts those who is meaning to attack, but also those who have done their best to better life for all Americans, regardless of race.
When you include the word "white" rich men, you incite a rage against all whites, any white man that makes more money than you, or has more things than you, lives in a bigger house than you. He left this term so general and vague as to create a monster out of anyone your mind could conceive it to be. Is Wright talking about every white man that lives and works in Silicon Valley? Those multi-billion dollar investors? Or maybe he is talking about the speculators that are driving up the price of oil, surly those white rich men are evil? What if he's talking about me? - inactive, on 03/18/2008, -0/+2Diggers defend a preacher? I fear the space-time continuum's implosion is near... btw, has anyone seen my aluminum foil hat?
- diggit83, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3Why are you being dugg down? I dugg you up, I agree completely with you.
- diggit83, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3....and the "RICH WHITE PEOPLE" who "RUN THIS COUNTRY" "Invented aids to kill off minorities"
Theres only one context for that *****......
The man is racist and delusional. PERIOD - gerrylazlo, on 03/18/2008, -1/+3I don't see what this has to do with Obama. He already decried him and distanced himself from him. There are plenty of ***** out there. I get it. Let's move on.
- inactive, on 03/18/2008, -3/+5Bill's a schill but Wright is as anti-American as you can get without inflicting physical harm.
- oldhick, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Simply google Jeremiah Wright. You can't miss them.
- thcobbs, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1WTF? what part of "GOD DAMN AMERICA" and "US OF KKK" isn't racist and America-hating?
- zombies187, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1Every part of his show is opinion. That's why they have to break in with headlines, because he is going to present the top story in the context of his world veiw without a pretense of objectivity. Talking points is not where the opinion stops.
- MoofTheStoof, on 03/18/2008, -0/+1The trouble labeling Bill-O a "liar," is that to lie you have to know or understand what's "real" and then deliberately try mislead. Over and over again, though, we've seen evidence that Bill might not actually have a firm grasp on reality. Sure sometimes he lies, but the rest of the time he's just ***** delusional.
- johnhummel, on 03/18/2008, -1/+2Yes. He did say "God damn America".
For spelling out the things that America deserves to be damned for. Sorry, but replacing democratically elected leaders and replacing them with the Shah of Iran - then wondering why people of Iran were mad at the US decades later? Yeah - America deserved to be damned for that.
For having drug laws that made cocaine a lighter offense than crack - just because the former is a drug for rich people and the latter a drug for poor people? Yeah - damn America for that too.
And sorry, but saying that Clinton screwed people over with things like NAFTA isn't racism, either. If you don't like it, fine - but it's not racism just because you're politically correct sensibilities are offended. -
