Bill Clinton
8-27-08
well said Bill.... - csonger, on 08/28/2008, -17/+72Bill Clinton delivered a fantastic speech and this former president made it crystal clear: Barack Obama is ready to lead the nation.
- patbon, on 08/28/2008, -19/+58Monica's under the podium
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -10/+39There was so many good speeches tonight I was overwhelmed. Holy *****, there is no way in hell Johnny McCain and his lackeys can top this.
- Thumper13, on 08/28/2008, -1/+25I am a Republican, and voting for Obama this year.
I am not a fan of the Clinton family.
This line blew me away, and really sticks with me.
Whether Bill or his speech writer wrote it, it is a brilliant line.
I was pretty impressed with Bill tonight. - sugarazor, on 08/28/2008, -0/+22Totally. An amazing line from an amazing speech.
- RSS14, on 08/28/2008, -5/+22Brilliant speech!
As a Canadian, I don't want America to ***** up; you're our big brother dammit! Don't die on us!
Obama '08 - bleutuna, on 08/28/2008, -3/+17This speech was amazing. Bill Clinton kicked so much damn ass. He didn't miss a beat. I was blown away.
- sibos, on 08/28/2008, -0/+13I loved that line. As soon as I heard him say that, it stuck with me as the simplest way to sum up the difference between the "Red" and "Blue" way of thinking about foreign policy. What a great great quote.
- kmom5, on 08/28/2008, -7/+20I totally agree! President Clinton definitely has special insight into this as a former president. If he says Obama's ready, he is ready.
- sugarazor, on 08/28/2008, -3/+15Yes... yes, he was.
- cadmiumpaint, on 08/28/2008, -7/+18Amazing speech. People in my neighborhood set off fireworks immediately after it was over.
Obama 08 - tolbs, on 08/28/2008, -1/+10holy crap, I think you are onto something...Obama is a Transformer!
{Optimus Prime '08} - Tanktunker, on 08/28/2008, -3/+11Well when you're campaigning against hope, change, peace and prosperity it's probably hard to inspire people.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -1/+9the ability to speak publicly is not a detriment for a politician.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+7
"That is exactly what the Dems were saying with Kerry."
Actually, most democrats were pretty uninspired by Kerry. - sathias, on 08/28/2008, -0/+7Uh maybe because presidents can have a maximum of two 4-year terms?
- sugarazor, on 08/28/2008, -2/+8That makes total sense. Nothing says "ploy" like a ringing endorsement from one of the most popular presidents in modern history.
- MasterJ26, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6What do you mean 'you people'?
- fadeout, on 08/28/2008, -3/+9Bill Clinton is back.
- monkeysama, on 08/28/2008, -1/+7There *were* so many good speeches...
- zenerdiode, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6What do YOU mean, 'you people'?
- MrHighTech, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6As a Canadian, close to the US but still a separate nation, that line was the one which struck with me the most in Clinton's speech.
The Bush foreign policies are the bullies' tactics. I'm glad someone as highly regarded as Bill Clinton is pointing it out for everyone else.
Am I also happy he put his full support behind Barack.
Obama'08 !
ps. now we have to get rid of OUR neo-con :P - colincornaby, on 08/28/2008, -2/+7"But the Constitution is sooo outdated."
I think this was sarcasm, but it really is a good point...
My problem is Libertarianism is they flip democracy on it's head. Under a proper government, the constitution should reflect the will of the people. That's why the constitution exists, it binds the government to the will of the people.
Libertarians distort this. They take away the will of the people by making people a slave to the almighty constitution. The constitution is a document to regulate the government, not the people of America. If the people feel the 2nd amendment is outdated, then get rid of it! If the people want to add net neutrality to the constitution, add it!
The constitution has always been a document to limit our government, but somehow it's now been turned into a document to limit the involvement of the people of this country in their government. - inactive, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6This "Obama has done nothing" trolling is so tiresome.
Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 570 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress.
Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored 15 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005.
Senator Obama has also introduced amendments to 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate.
His record is in fact quite impressive for a junior Senator from Illinois.
Most of his legislative effort has been in the areas of:
* Energy Efficiency and Climate Change (25 bills)
* Health care (21 bills) and public health (20 bills)
* Consumer protection/labor (14 bills)
* The needs of Veterans and the Armed Forces (13 bills)
* Congressional Ethics and Accountability (12 bills)
* Foreign Policy (10 bills)
* Voting and Elections (9 bills)
* Education (7 bills)
* Hurricane Katrina Relief (6)
* The Environment (5 bills)
* Homeland Security (4 bills)
* Discrimination (4 bills) - Rekutyn, on 08/28/2008, -0/+51 Trillion over the course of almost 5 years vs. 50% of 1 Trillion over the course of one scrambling day of bank bailouts.
Your math checks out. Next time check a calendar. - DD2CC2U, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5Bill Clinton Truly Amazing, Hilary Clinton Truly Amazing,
Obama / Biden Truly Amazing
The United States of America TRULY AMAZING! - GliTCH82, on 08/28/2008, -0/+5This could be a new meme.
- theradical, on 08/28/2008, -3/+8Either this is a lazy transcription, or the media pre-release version of the speech. Either way, not verbatim.
- josepablos, on 08/28/2008, -6/+11hurray for bill .. !!
- sugarazor, on 08/28/2008, -3/+7Biden mentioned quite a few things Obama has accomplished and mentioned how amazing it was to watch him "hit the ground running" the moment he got to the Senate.
- hepj, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Video in the article, maybe check it out next time.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Better than what we have endured over the last 8 years...

- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -3/+7Shorter Right Wing Shills: "WAAAAH!"
- rz8472, on 08/28/2008, -2/+6I would like to take the analogy further. America is more like the ***** up, high on drugs big brother who stumbles into Canada's birthday parties drunk and throws up on the cake. Canada meanwhile graduated from a top university and became police commissioner.
But don't worry, America gets straightened out in the end of a hilarious buddy action/comedy film... I hope... - sugarazor, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Pretty sure Bill wrote it... apparently the entire speech was all him with little to no input from his speechwriter.
- monkeysama, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4It's online at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/26430180#2 ...
- kephas, on 08/28/2008, -1/+5In fact, I think it is quite crucial for a leader to be able to communicate well with those they lead.
- kayjay, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3too bad he didnt play the sax this time.
- GliTCH82, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3When starting an argument in a thread noting great speeches and public speaking in general, do not start with "The mindset of you guys".
- RSS14, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5Oh, I remember you. You got buried a lot last time I saw you.
I bet you're voting for McCain? - kephas, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3It really does put things into perspective.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5There is no argument for wasted money
400 billion = debt to china
Democrats = guilty
You say but but its only 400 us billion maybe even more for the stimulus checks but but thats all. 400 us billion is nothing. ahahah
spoken like a true fanatic.
Chump change
to the chumps - Tanktunker, on 08/28/2008, -3/+6Why, Barackalypse, you wouldn't by any chance be a...troll, would you?
It's a gut feeling, so I can't really prove it, but there's just something about you... - kinship, on 08/28/2008, -2/+5haha, i get it, you mean that anchor is Hillary!
- diggenerate, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Canada is Americas hat.
- nikdahl, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2It's not the bailout bill, it's what caused the need to bail out these banks. If you'll remember, between 1990 and 1992 when over 800 banks folded... When George H.W. Bush was in office. Now, in 2008, the largest banks in this nation (in terms of holdings) have fallen while George W. Bush is in office. Do you see a patern here?
Have you even given any thought to what might have happened if the Democratic Congress did NOT vote this bill? Total disaster to our economy, with consequences reaching over the globe, and the cost to taxpayers would be even greater.
If everything goes well (meaning, if we elect Barack Obama as our President, and get this economy back on it's feet), then Freddit and Fannie can pull themselves up, stabilize their finances and build enough of a capital cushion to pay back these loans, and it will not have cost the US taxpayers a dime. Of course, this is best case, but certainly not an impossibility. - barfooz, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Try reading the Constitution sometime.
- bovox, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Only those who make more than $250000 a year will pay higher taxes under an Obama Administration. I seriously doubt you're in that tax bracket simply because you're a Digg user. Digg users are so cheap and poor that they believe they have the God-given right to pirate music.
Also, of the two candidates, the one you have to fear about taking away your freedoms is the Republican one who has no qualms with taking away your freedoms. -
