- novaculus, on 08/22/2008, -6/+37I have a theory that will hopefully connect some of the dots.
When, after spending over $160 million in grants and gifts, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge wound up it affairs its remaining assets were transferred to a successor non-profit, the Chicago Public Education Fund(CPEF). Ayers, the prime mover behind the CAC, gave its records to UIC. UIC processed and inventoried the records as it routinely does.
Stan Kurz arranges to review the records with a cooperative UIC Daley Library staff. Before he arrives, Ayers, a professor at UIC, gets wind of the impending inspection. Whether he figures it out for himself, or he gets some help, perhaps from the UIC general counsel, he advises UIC that he didn't have the authority to transfer ownership of the records. UIC now finds it has possession but not ownership of the records which actually belong to the CPEF, successor in interest to the CAC. It must now obtain a deed of gift or otherwise arrange transfer of ownership of the records from the CPEF. In the meantime it has no right to make the records available for examination, particularly if the CPEF has expressly forbidden it to do so. When UIC states that it is seeking a deed of transfer from the donor, it misleads (perhaps intentionally) because without additional clarification many will assume that the donor is the same person of entity that delivered the records to UIC. That misplaced assumption then has everyone chasing off down the wrong track, as they try to determine if the donor was trying to suppress the records to protect Obama and Ayers, and how the donor could legally renege on its gift.
There is at least some overlap between the current CPEF board and the old CAC board. Some of them may share reasons with Obama and Ayers to suppress the information in the records. Undoubtedly Ayers has some degree of influence with some members of the CPEF board. Will the CPEF board act promptly to transfer ownership of the records to UIC? Or will it delay that transfer, and therefore public access, until after the election?
And why would Obama and Ayers, and possibly others involved, want to suppress the detailed information contained in the records?
1) The project was a $160 million dollar failure. Supposedly intended to develop programs to promote improved academic achievement, it resulted in no measurable improvement, according to its own review. The Board Presidency is virtually the only significant executive experience on Obama's resume, and it is a dismal record of futility, a revelation that would certainly damage his campaign.
2) The records may also reveal that much of the money went to essentially political efforts, as Ayers and Obama and friends tried to control the schools through the Local Schools Councils, while the Daley Machine battled them for control by attempting to centralize authority and undercutting the LSCs. Much of the money was wasted on this political infighting. many people may find these expenditures grossly inappropriate.
3) Substantial amounts will be found to have been distribute to persons and groups with extremely political agendas, like the former SDSer and Maoist Moe Klonsky's Small School's Workshop, which was given hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants. It has been described as a kind of social welfare program for some of Ayers radical associates. Again, many people may find these expenditures grossly inappropriate.
4) Obama exploited at least some aspects of the political infrastructure that was established with CAC money for his own political agenda, including hsi State Senate run. Combined with the other evidence, the actual intentions of Obama and Ayres for the CAC are called into question. Did they actually expect to improve student performance? Or were they really focused on a political agenda, fighting for control of Chicago schools, and building political infrastructure they could exploit for other purposes as well?
When combined with other information that is being uncovered, a profoundly disturbing picture will come into focus. Obama met Ayers in the late 80s, before he went to Harvard. He clerked in a Chicago law firm after his first year at Harvard, mentored by Michelle and befriended by Bernardine Dohrn, also a Weather Underground terrorist and Ayers wife, who also worked there. After a brief and unexceptional stint with another Chicago firm after graduation from Harvard, Obama was Ayers handpicked man for the CAC board chairmanship. It was intended that the board chairmanship would be his platform for building his political career, a way to connect to wealthy and influential Chicago liberals, and to build a political network on the ground with CAC money, supposedly for CAC goals, but available for him to exploit for his own political agenda once established. Ayers and Dohrn hosted his political coming-out party later that year. Ayers and Obama also served together later on the board of another non-profit, the Woods Fund. (While they were on the board, it gave a substantial grant to a very controversial Arab organization known for anti-semitic policies and agitation on behalf of illegal immigrants from Arab countries.)
The reality is that the guy from the neighborhood who is an English professor, who hasn't endorsed him, the guy Obama doesn't exchange ideas with regularly, the guy he is only casually connected with socially, is in actuality Obama's Chicago mentor and political godfather.
The democrats are about to ask America to make Obama its next president. And standing right behind him from the beginning, the man behind the man, is avowed Marxist and unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers. - vexingmodstwo, on 08/22/2008, -6/+32Just to give you a preview of what's going on here.
Any objective observer can see that Obama's policies are at a minimum left of center and socialist.
Obama admits in his books that he was influenced from an early age by one Frank Marshall Davis. A communist.
Obama studied Saul Alinsky and used Alinsky methods during his community organizer days.
Obama befriended Bill Ayers, a communist and domestic terrorist and Ayers introduced Obama to Chicago politicos and helped Obama launch his run to the Illinois State Senate.
This is all fact.
Add this to the 22 years spent at Rev. Wrights Black Liberation Theology Church and you have an entire life spent at the far left of the political spectrum. - down4six, on 08/22/2008, -3/+26You have to ask yourself, do we really want a president who was endorsed and connected with terroists and dictators. I am shocked that people don't blink when they see Obama's policices being desribed as "socialist"
- voncheese, on 08/22/2008, -7/+28Unbelievable! Absolutely unbelievable. What I am talking about is the fact that when you ask someone why they are voting for Obama they say because he stands for "Change". Obviously he's for change, but I don't think they know what kind of change he's talking about - Socialism.
- novaculus, on 08/22/2008, -0/+20Absolutely correct. Anyone who has familiarized themselves with Alinsky's work will easily recognize the profound influence they have on Obama's strategies for political organizing. Alinsky was an utterly ruthless cynic for whom the end justifies the means. Obama struggles to avoid disclosing his own beliefs and true political agenda position himself, the better to reflect the agendas of those he would organize, remaining a blank slate upon which those who "hope" for "change" can scrawl their dreams. That is straight out of the Alinsky playbook, as is exploiting those organizations for your own purposes after you have built them up.
- novaculus, on 08/22/2008, -2/+22You are a damned fool.
Being found not guilty is not the same as being proven innocent. Not guilty means only that charges were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The judge or jury may well believe that guilt is more likely than not, but is still required to find a verdict of not guilty if guilt is not established beyond a reasonable doubt. There is no such thing as being found innocent.
In fact, if I recall correctly, Ayers and Dohrn were never tried to a verdict. I seem to recall their cases were dismissed after crucial evidence against them was ruled to have been obtained unlawfully. Not that the evidence was not sufficient proof, but that it couldn't be used against them.
Furthermore, since then, both Ayers and Dorhn have freely admitted their activities as criminal terrorists. They are proud of them. In fact, Ayers was interviewed in the fall of 1991, during which interview he declared unrepentantly that he was sorry the Weather Underground had not committed more terrorist bombings, and stated remorsefully that he and the other Weather Underground terrorists hadn't done enough. Ayers was photographed for the interview standing on an American flag.
The interview was published on September 11, 2001.
I hope you are some underage punk, because you are a fool and an ignoramus incapable of voting responsibly. - thoughtcrime, on 08/22/2008, -1/+19Excellent and well thought-out analysis.
- LibertyForever, on 08/22/2008, -5/+22Excellent analysis, novaculus.
The longer they block access to those files, the bigger this will get into the campaign. - planet87, on 08/22/2008, -0/+16You haven't been at a university lately have you?
There's a reason most people don't blink at socialism and that reason is the cause of 90% of this country's problems.
The Marxists are in control of the universitys. - vexingmodstwo, on 08/22/2008, -0/+16Here's even more about Obama's circle of friends and supporters.

You could have saved yourself some time and stopped at "You are a damned fool". It's easy enough to look up WHY Ayers wasn't convicted. It's easy enough to look up, in his own words, how he doesn't believe he committed ENOUGH terror. Anyone that believes he's Innocent is a fool. Anyone that doesn't look up the facts before defending him is a damned fool. - chaimke, on 08/22/2008, -2/+17As usual, novaculus, you are right on the mark!
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+14Excellent post. Thanks for the read, and taking the time to lay things out. As you say, much may be conjecture, but it is food for thought. I personally think #1 is a big part (The headline would be "Obama blew 160 million"), with #2 also playing a substantial role.
In the end though: "Will the CPEF board act promptly to transfer ownership of the records to UIC? Or will it delay that transfer, and therefore public access, until after the election?"
I am going with delay. It is the way of the world for these things, Dem or Repub. - bluto36, on 08/22/2008, -2/+16you forget that the "important" baby boomers support and think Ayers and his lackeys were in the right, fighting the man, Bringing it down... Bringing it all down.
this has more to do with spoiled indulgent Boomers finally getting the chance to "stick it to the man" "fight the system" and showing their over indulging parents that they were right after all. and just like spoiled children, they don't really give a crap how they get their way, as long as they get their way. they all thought they had done it with the Clinton's but don't like how that turned out. so here they are again, with an even lefty'er lefty - planet87, on 08/22/2008, -2/+14Well, the fact that he's a Marxist is good enough for me... and as 4 wheel points out.... the fact he doesn't believe he committed enough terror, pretty much closes the case.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -0/+11Exactly! Bravo Zulu!
- solboldi, on 08/23/2008, -1/+11Obama is not trustworthy.
- TRMarchesano, on 08/22/2008, -2/+11YOUR ALL RACIST!!! LOL
- tasine, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8Yep, and have been for over 40 years!
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9"Innocent until proven guilty. Have you forgotten the basic precept of our judicial system? "
Ayers has since admitted his involvement, and is not repentant. Why the "not found guilty" straw man? Are you saying Ayers is lying about his involvement, or are you just desperate to avoid the truth? - novaculus, on 08/23/2008, -0/+7UPDATE:
UIC announces records will be open to public beginning Tuesday:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Obamba_Ayers_Ann ... - tasine, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6Did they specify which Tuesday of which year?
- tasine, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3Novaculus, well-said! The scariest thing about politics is that so many voters are brainless twits. I know many many oldsters also who are incapable of voting responsibly.
- inactive, on 08/26/2008, -0/+2Be patient, October is coming.
- USArugula, on 08/22/2008, -15/+1Innocent until proven guilty. Have you forgotten the basic precept of our judicial system? The FBI spent an huge amount of time investigating Ayers. So, why isn't he in jail? I suppose you think your own conspiracy theories are more informed than the information gathered by trained Federal investigators who knew every time Ayers ate or took a *****. Perhaps you should your name in the hat for Federal prosecutor.
Innocent until proven guilty. Unless you're in Gitmo, this is still America and that rule still applies. - USArugula, on 08/22/2008, -21/+2"Terrorist" Bill Ayers?
Ayers was never convicted of any crimes despite a prolonged FBI investigation into the Weather Underground that resulted in the prosecution of several of its members and its eventual downfall. Here in America, not being found guilty of anything means you are innocent. To claim that a man under FBI investigation somehow slipped through the fingers of justice despite their efforts it to claim McCain is guilty of his role in the Keating 5. If that is your argument, then I have to ask you: is it worse to be a criminal acquainted with the guy running for president (Ayers) or an actual criminal running for the highest office in the land (McCain)?
