'bradley effect'
it ain't over til it's over
'nuff said - voteobama4, on 10/13/2008, -16/+296Check out these videos from Ohio: http://open.salon.com/content.php?cid=27963
As far as I'm concerned, Obama is still fighting an uphill battle against ignorance and intolerance.
This is far from over. - AxYoung, on 10/12/2008, -13/+280Don't jinx it!
- sarahlee, on 10/13/2008, -6/+222Fine with me if they don't. We don't need a single Obama voter staying home because he/she thinks his/her vote is not desperately needed. No more 2000/2004 close counts!
If it is close, it can be stolen. - algaeturd, on 10/13/2008, -10/+143They want a ***** horse race and nothing less. If the election was over today hypothetically, then they'd lose millions and millions (literally) of viewers and millions of ratings and, in turn, ad rates and dollars from their advertisers. I have no doubt that Obama will clinch it but I'm not letting up until the day he is announced as the winner. And nobody else should. The game is WON or lost in the home stretch...keep it up, keep the heat on and don't let down your guard. Republicans are evil and they WILL try to fight, cheat, lie and steal to get this. Historically, that's par for the course for them.
- algaeturd, on 10/13/2008, -6/+123Neither does a horse that's so old, bitter and outdated that it gets shot in the first turn to be put out of its misery.
- sammyjames, on 10/13/2008, -9/+115VOTE people. Just get up on November 4th and go to the polls and vote. We are going to continue having this dialog until then, and I personally encourage it. I'm thrilled to see that Obama and Biden are building this incredible groundswell of support. And we must continue hitting Palin and McCain right in the kisser.
Just make damned-well certain that you have done everything that you personally can to ensure that you get that vote out. VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE. Vote like your life depends on it -- because this year, it does. - RavagesOfTime, on 10/13/2008, -1/+104Until November 4th, John McCain and Barack Obama have the same number of electoral votes: 0.
- martalli, on 10/13/2008, -5/+100"Maybe they are invested in a close campaign (absolutely)."
You hit the nail on the head. Until the last vote is counted, they will continue to portray almost any race as completely up in the air. Of course, that is actually true, but they benefit mightily from great ratings for people watching the debates, reading cnn.com/politics and so on, which they will continue to do as long as they thing the race is still up in the air. - chrissku, on 10/13/2008, -0/+57"Oh, it's ok guys. McCain planned to give Obama the lead so he could play from behind. A quarter mile horse doesn't win the race!"
That's good to know.....for a minute there it looked like McCain was running a very disorganized campaign with no direction whatsoever that looked the other way when racist comments were hurled about Obama. I bet he and Sarah Palin are going to make us all look stupid for falling for the "media bias" that has plagued there amazingly well run and orchestrated campaign. Maybe now the media will stop with the "gotcha" questions like "Gov. Palin what newspapers do you read?" - elshizzo, on 10/13/2008, -4/+61The media has an incentive to make this race closer and seem closer than it is - $$$$
- brstilson, on 10/13/2008, -3/+52I'm glad they're not covering it. The possibility of a McCain win is more likely to get the Obama supporters off their asses in November and go to the polling places.
EDIT: It looks like Electoral-vote.com is polling Obama as taking the lead in West Virginia. What the hell happened in West Virginia? If Obama takes that state, I'm going to ***** a brick. Not in anger, mind you, but in absolute shock.
It really is like Chris Rock said, "Bush did such a bad job, he made it hard for a white guy to become the president." - TunaFishGangsta, on 10/13/2008, -3/+50That is debatable.
Roughly 40% of my state is supposedly for McCain, but I'm hard up trying to find them. They're clearly hiding.
I think when confronted, people are more likely to say Obama because they know that he's the right choice. Behind closed doors of a voting booth? We've yet to find out... - zeitgueist, on 10/13/2008, -4/+50Um what about the possibility that you are an idiot.
- rossnyc, on 10/13/2008, -7/+49Yahoo's map is nice and they have it correct:
http://news.yahoo.com/election/2008/dashboard - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -4/+45If there's not a race, people won't stay tuned.
- wild, on 10/13/2008, -5/+45Well, Bradley effect was very real for where it comes from, but it doesn't apply in this election.
Most of the people who would not vote for Obama because they are racist are the same people who would not be voting for him anyway. Racists tend to be older and very conservative in their beliefs. SO they would already be supporting a Palin/McCain ticket anyway.
I have no doubt their will be some political voter caging occurring, but I don;t think the Bradely effect will also apply. - inactive, on 10/13/2008, -9/+43Bradley effect is BS. If a person doesn't want to admit they wouldn't vote for a black man all they have to do is say they are voting for the other guy.
- TunaFishGangsta, on 10/13/2008, -8/+39And if you can still Register to Vote in your state - Do it. Because you can't vote if you're not registered to vote.
- Jsmuli2, on 10/13/2008, -1/+31I thought he was in his mid 40's
- MrColdheart, on 10/13/2008, -8/+37Not to be a downer but I'd never put it past the GOP to pull something out of there ass.
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -4/+31DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN
- talan64, on 10/13/2008, -6/+31They hedge away from admitting he is over 270 to keep it from the main stream. If people were under the impression that he is a "sure-in" then there is a large group of people that would not go out and vote (for both parties) and it would skew the real and actual votes. Both campaigns are slinging so much mud right now that we are all better off #1 voting and #2 waiting to see the outcome. Don't let the early number throw you off, get out there and vote!!!
- Boomh4u3r, on 10/13/2008, -3/+28Wow...Those people are ***** stupid
- qazew, on 10/13/2008, -3/+27He isn't even over 0 yet. Elections are 21 days away.
- scabbers, on 10/13/2008, -0/+24He doesn't look that old to me.
- Mhykol, on 10/13/2008, -2/+25As a Democrat and Obama supporter I do NOT want them to - I would rather everyone assumes it is a dead heat until after November 4th - this way voters will actually go vote and not think "eh, Obama has it in the bag, don't need to try"
- moliver21, on 10/13/2008, -11/+33If the media shows that Obama is ahead by a very significant amount, then it will not be believable when whoever stole the elections for Bush swing it for McCain. They have to make it look like it is close otherwise it won't work. People outside of the States keep posting messages like "You guys voted in Bush for a second term!" No... I really don't think we actually did. I don't think we're really actually going to wind up voting McCain in either, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened. Even the consideration that such a thing is possible scares me.
- monsterCable, on 10/13/2008, -5/+26I thought that Obama is not older than 50...
270 is pretty close to McCain's age. - trotskyist, on 10/13/2008, -2/+23This is great and all, but never get comfortable with how things are looking.
I think James Carville said it best when he proclaimed "When your opponent looks like he's drowning, throw him an anvil." I think any of us would take a landslide over a close race any day of the week. Get down to your local Obama campaign office and help make phonecalls, or anything you can do. This campaign is built on your backs, the everyday volunteer. Also, just because you don't live in a swing state doesn't mean you can't help. I live in Texas, which is about as far from a swing state as you can get, but we have some of the most active campaign offices, helping out our neighbors in swing states.
We can do this!
Obama 08! - sammyjames, on 10/13/2008, -4/+24And here's a whisper campaign for all of us: Once the election IS over, we are all going to stop watching said "big media" outlets. I've already done that. We need to invest our time, money, and energy in far more profitable and rewarding activities -- like building solar panels, windmills, and portable generators.
Stop buying the products that they sell on CNN and Comedy Central. That includes cars, movie tickets, and beer. Really. Make a list, and check it twice before you go out to do the shopping. Make sure that you are NOT buying all of the products that they are selling. This is how we turn our country around, and this is how we win.
Period. Get to it. - Fordi, on 10/13/2008, -2/+22it doesn't exist. where did you pick that one up from?
- Raider007, on 10/13/2008, -0/+20still 21 days...
a lot can happen...
nothing certain till the votes are all in... - michelebot, on 10/13/2008, -3/+21I still think something fishy went on in 2004. The actual vote percentages seemed to match the exit polls in all states except two........Florida and Ohio, and in those states the vote percentage was reversed from the exit polls. I'll wait and see the actual voting this year.
- jdibiase, on 10/13/2008, -8/+25Obama never did as well in the primaries as the poll numbers indicated. Perhaps people are afraid to say they're voting for McCain because, like some of you above and in other discussions happens, they're accused of being a racist if they don't say Obama, never intending to vote for him.
Now go ahead, digg me down because my comment isn't anti-McCain or pro-Obama. Thanks! - wampalord, on 10/13/2008, -1/+18IT'S OVER 270!!!!!!!
I felt dirty for doing that. - ironhide, on 10/13/2008, -3/+19I know that's what you republicreeps are hoping for. Not gonna happen.
- revjustin2, on 10/13/2008, -2/+18Please don't listen to this guy even if he is joking. Vote! Vote! Vote!
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -5/+21do right wing freaks always complain about liberals?
- athinnes, on 10/01/2009, -2/+18I see 344 to 167 on Yahoo...
- yanalyze, on 10/13/2008, -0/+15Obviously, you are better at math than most of the others on this site.
- wolfz0rz, on 10/13/2008, -1/+16It's funny, because there's actually a more substantial case to McCain not being eligible. Obama was born in Hawaii. McCain was born in Panama.
Not that I believe he's ineligible, just wanted to point out the irony of the situation. - shadoweva09, on 10/13/2008, -5/+20Looking at the maps, anyone else notice how republicanism only thrives in rural areas where people have never heard of other views or ways of thinking?
- andrew522, on 10/13/2008, -1/+15As a fellow Ohioan, I would like to apologize for our idiots. They are exceptionally ignorant and undereducated.
Believe me, I hate them as much as you. It gives all of us a bad image.
Thank you. - borez, on 10/13/2008, -1/+15it is:

- drlha, on 10/13/2008, -0/+14Some stupid video on YouTube where a bunch of guys who claim to be either independent or democrats (i.e. they protest too much about not being right wingers) spin a conspiracy theory that Obama was born in Kenya, and therefore is not a natural born citizen. Its ***** of course, but that doesn't stop wingnuts from glomming onto it.
- bonch, on 10/13/2008, -8/+20Ever notice how Democrats in urban areas are always condescending ***** who stereotype the rest of the country, all the while pretending to be enlightened enough to be above stereotypes?
