Big Brother Is Watching as He's Never Watched Before
fee.org — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently installed millimeter-wave scanners at checkpoints in Los Angeles International Airport and New York's JFK. It already uses the technology at Sky Harbor in Phoenix, and it ’s threatening to add more machines not only in these terminals but in others, too.

Great. This is just the ticket to protect us from evil terrorists who hate our freedoms! Can we get "Patriot Act III" - 'the sequel' while we're at it. So we can really feel safe. And more spy bill legislation on the side please. Along with national ID cards via the 'Real ID Act". America the free.
Millimeter-wave scanners at checkpoints in Los Angeles International Airport and New York's JFK. But leave Americas borders wide open, unsecured and unprotected. Sounds like a great plan to fight terrorism doesn't it. What's next? - DrooliusSneezer, on 05/21/2008, -1/+9There now...
Don't we all feel safer knowing that the Federal Government is on the job, protecting us at the airports?
(Never mind that it's the same Federal Government who was protecting us on 9-11-2001)- cquinnd, on 05/22/2008, -3/+1Not the same Federal Government. In some ways it is better; unfortunately in some ways they have just perfected the art of CYA.
- juankovo, on 05/21/2008, -1/+8Ah, freedom. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
- CryRightardCry, on 05/21/2008, -2/+7Whooo boy, this is going to be trouble.
I love the story of the diamond ring disappearing at the metal detector and the TSA REFUSING to do anything about it due to "insufficient evidence". I have to wonder if the person who stole it split the take with the TSA supervisor.
LOL, it gets better:
"But in 2004, screeners at Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C., "randomly selected" passengers for pat-downs by kicking the magnetometers when attractive women walked through. They then forced these victims to strip for searches in stairwells. A horrified employee told ABC News, “That really incensed me that someone felt that they could just put on some gloves and they could just violate someone to that degree.”"
Yep, that sounds like poorly educated and trained thugs with no fear of the consequences.- GovernmentSp00k, on 05/22/2008, -1/+6You said it. Believe it or not, this actually happened to me at McCarran International (LAS) airport in Vegas during a trip last year to visit friends. This 'security' guard was staring at me the entire time I removed my coat and shoes for placement in the hi-tech "baggage scanner". Once I was finished and the tray with my personal belongings made it's way to the other side of the conveyor without a hitch, the guy hurriedly rushes over to me. "You'll have to go thru again miss" He says. I asked "what for?" and reminded him my flight leaves in 20 minutes. His response was "please don't ask questions" "it's for your safety" (??) Another 20-something clerk next to him chimed in "you have to comply with our request otherwise you could get into a-llot of trouble!" and smirked to the "security" folk next to him. I was furious. Sensing complete bull *****, I asked to speak with a manager. The kid says "they're on break m'aam we need you to come over here." I didn't want to miss my flight so I complied. Talk about humiliating to the extreme. The hasty "guard" then leads me over to the side of the line and barks "stand behind this yellow line" and proceeds to feel me up from top to bottom! I wanted to spit. This was totally un-called for and waaay ***** out of line. I asked if this was really necessary and was told to "be quiet". I wanted to swift-kick the ***** square in the testicles with my Stiletto high heels. He then says "ok you're good to go have a nice flight" "thank you for your cooperation." I made attempt to locate a manager or supervisor, someone with authority to file formal complaint. After 10 minutes I finally tracked down an "airport security operations supervisor" aka "just another clerk with a fancy job title' (they love their little titles) who advised me "they were "just doing their job" "it's our duty to create a safe environment for our valued passengers" "it's part of keeping America safe" and "you'll have to take it up with corporate" "we apologize for any inconvenience" and other patronizing, absolutely condescending crap. Feeling hopeless like any pursuit of this farce would only lead to further humiliation and disappointment, I sprinted to my flight which was already boarding as I arrived at the gate. Made it just in time. Any longer I'd have been SOL.
You have no idea what this is like. Or how humiliating it is and completely violated you feel until it happens to you. Like you have no rights whatsoever and must obediently submit to the every demand of these ***** "or else!" I used to think such stories of 'patting down female passengers" were exaggerated until I experienced it firsthand myself. It's obvious what the guy was up to. They sure take advantage of their tin badge "security' power'. And duly abuse it to pull crap like this and get away with it. ZERO accountability as usual nobody cares and looks the other way. After all, it's part of "protecting us from evil terrorists who hate our freedom!"
I wonder if any members of Osama bin Laden's family were felt up when they were flown out of the United States in the days right after 9/11 after the FBI approved the special flights..We wouldn't want to put them through any of *that*!, they could become offended.- juankovo, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2Wow.
