- greeneyedmama, on 07/24/2008, -44/+749Can people please stop using the Hitler comparison. No one is like Hitler. There has only been one Hitler. It is hyperbole in the highest degree.
- kheiligh, on 07/24/2008, -58/+585he's been kind of an idiot lately on a lot of subjects... I'm not personally enthused by him really commenting on anything lately
- SpectralSounds, on 07/24/2008, -44/+384"Going to the bathroom, well, that's something the Fuehrer would have done"
"Eating a sammich, well, that's something the Fuehrer would have done"
"Breathing air, well, that's something the Fuehrer would have done"
Just because people do some of the same things, does not make them the same people. This viewpoint is why racism and ignorance go hand in hand. - Zoshchenko, on 07/24/2008, -47/+341Ben Stein hasn't been relevant to anything since he did role call in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Why the heck is he being interviewed on ANY show? His opinions don't matter and despite his well publicized IQ, he's a moron.
- Falldog, on 07/25/2008, -8/+226Obama has four limbs, hair, breathes, eats food, walks upright... sounds a lot like Hitler to me.
- tynansanger, on 07/24/2008, -39/+251Obama's like Hitler, Darwin's like Hitler. What's next? Gandhi's like Hitler?
- toxictonic, on 07/25/2008, -35/+219Ben Stein is a douche bag.
- kaelyiesta, on 07/25/2008, -13/+151After his 'scientists have been stifling creationist debate' nonsense, I don't take anything he has too seriously.
I just realized I don't even recall the name of that documentary anymore. Sweet, I love it when I forget about something pointless and stupid. - cygnox, on 07/24/2008, -36/+170He tries so hard to be relevant.
- guestaccount, on 07/25/2008, -20/+153I liked it better when people were just trying to win his money.
- HereticChick, on 07/24/2008, -60/+184Ben Stein has a bad case of word vomit....I hope he chokes on it.
- SeanyMac, on 07/24/2008, -37/+146Obama is like Hitler, Juan Perron, Evita, and Mussolini.
Funny, I don't ever remember Obama having his opponents murdered.
Ben Stein is an idiot... this is a man who publicly decries evolution despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary and who has become one of the most obnoxious pundits this side of Bill O' the Clown.
Consider the source, however... it's the Glenn Beck show. - davewashere, on 07/25/2008, -10/+113If Obama were more like Hitler, wouldn't Ben Stein be dead already?
- Dolar, on 07/24/2008, -34/+120Ben Stein, invoking Godwins law even when not on the internet!
- 1town, on 07/25/2008, -16/+94Obama has supporters?? Only evil dictators can fill stadiums!!!
- nick1971, on 07/25/2008, -6/+77I agree. I've lived in Germany for 17 years and now have German citizenship . I would not call the reception the reception that Obama had in Germany to one of Hitler. I would however express our feelings of hope that this is a new beginning of our once proud relationship with the USA that has so deteriorated over the last 10 years.
I do unfortunately see a large group of similarities to the history of Germany in the 30's.
Our downfall started with a terrorist act - the burning of the german parliament building.
The arrest of the enemy of the state the terrorist an Austrian
The enactment of the enablement legislation - broad powers for the executive branch - arrest without trial, imprisonment without rights, definition of enhanced interrogation techniques; expansion of the powers to include supporters; setting up of an internment camp (Dachau) with special internment rules (no lawyer, indefinite etc).; wars justifying liberation of appressed people and the obtaining of addition raw materials (Oil, gas, coal, steel).
No one will do this because its too much effort instead they will click the red button and resume there day.
In Germany one of the 1st elements of the NS legislation was the Reichsbrandverordnung compare this to the US patriot act, then look at the rest of the enabling legislation, compare this to the rest of the legislation passed in the last 8 years.
It won't happen but look at what the executive branch has now for powers. In the 2nd world war the US executed internment for all Japanese citizens and those who were related to the Japanese. What stops the president doing the same for all Arab americans? - Aikidi, on 07/25/2008, -6/+74"Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed"
YOU'VE READ IT, YOU CAN'T UNREAD IT - themarq, on 07/25/2008, -11/+61He's been such an embarrassment for the past little while. It's really a shame since prior to his anti-evolution rant I had a healthy amount of respect for the man. Now all of a sudden he's gone down the path of extreme right-wing fanaticism and just seems to be desperate for attention... good or bad.
As for Glenn Beck, he's just been wasting oxygen for years. - Rotzooi, on 07/25/2008, -29/+75Fortunately, in a couple of decades, the Hitler comparison will have been replaced by the Cheney comparison.
- madfrogurt, on 07/25/2008, -11/+54Ben Stein wrote speeches for Nixon. Of course he's going to be wary of a young charismatic political figure who inspires a new generation, because the last candidate to do that soundly beat Stein's lying, sweating boss. It was John F Kennedy.
- nullcodes, on 07/25/2008, -5/+48What about Pol Pot ?
There have been a few 20th/21st century leaders who have as genocidal and raving mad up as Hitler.
There have been many Hitlers unfortunately, it's not some unique anomaly of history. - BaudiIROCZ, on 07/25/2008, -15/+58After his intelligent design movie "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," I really don't give 2 ***** what this idiot has to say. Why do they keep going to him for his political opinions?
- mfhayes, on 07/25/2008, -3/+39Seriously. This is just another sad attempt of the right trying to find things wrong with Obama. Oh no, he's in Germany talking to lots of people... didn't Hitler do that? Oh okay, so he's like Hitler.
F*cking stupid. - Suneet67, on 07/25/2008, -3/+36Dugg because the Burning of the Reichstag is a little too conspicuously similar to the September 11th in the ways they codified executive power and tarnished democracy... apt historical comparison
- philodox1, on 07/25/2008, -9/+41I wonder what he has to say about Obama speaking in front of 200,000 in GERMANY.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -5/+35How is this any different than the left comparing Bush to Hitler?
Look - I hate both the left and right. Why can't we have a government that works for us and not corporate interests? Well, because while we fight over a left/right false paradigm the elitists are debasing our money, feeding us war propaganda and other evil *****.
But let's fight over BS. Because that's what it is. - Theod48, on 07/25/2008, -21/+50Ben Stein should have kept to being a professor in movies, and not pretending to be some sort of intellectual authority in real life
- str1fe, on 07/25/2008, -3/+31You sound ignorant when you make blatantly stupid comments like "go kick rocks - ass clown."
- plamoni, on 07/25/2008, -3/+31@kaelyiesta: Don't worry about not remembering the name. The producers obviously couldn't remember it either, because they kept telling the scientists they interviewed that it was called something different.. :-).
As I recall, didn't Ben Stein spend his whole movie implying that people who believe in evolution should be grouped right in there with the Nazis?
It seems to me that Mr. Stein doesn't seem to be able to construct an actual argument against somebody's viewpoints without comparing them to Nazis...
Let me conclude this rant by saying that Ben Stein's tactics of blaming all the world's problems on a certain group of people would make Hitler proud :-) - williamlee, on 07/25/2008, -4/+31Be that as that may, the comparison is in poor taste. Hitler is not the only public speaker to get tens of thousands of people to cheer during a speech.
- inactive, on 07/25/2008, -1/+27Dugg, for an atyically Insightful post in the midst of Godwinism. You sir, are my hero for the day.
- RealmDown, on 07/25/2008, -3/+29You mean "unfortunately." Otherwise, as much as you obviously hate Cheney, you would be wanting Hitler to have competition in notoriety. Not a good position.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 07/25/2008, -1/+27There's a Visine for that?
- directedition, on 07/25/2008, -7/+32Indeed, Gandhi and Hitler both believed that black people were genetically impure and were ruining their society.
Of course one enforced their views through mass murder and the other through non-violent civil disobedience. - Suneet67, on 07/25/2008, -27/+51who the ***** is ben stein? and who the ***** cares what his political opinion is?
- qdkk, on 07/25/2008, -3/+27You're an idiot. Because Hitler symbolizes the worst evil ever perpetrated on the world, the mere comparison to Hitler has severe implications. Ben Stein knows this. Don't be so gullible.
- RealmDown, on 07/25/2008, -3/+26No, Gandhi has a sense of humor.
- greenm1981, on 07/25/2008, -2/+24Lol. What profound economic theory has Stein penned? At best, he regurgitates the same market fundamentalism that is taught in economics programs throughout the US.
I wish Ben Stein would quit invoking scaring images of the Third Reich to peddle his second rate ideas. - josephbloseph, on 07/25/2008, -0/+22I believe what you are referring to is "Win Ben Stein's Money"
- 5urr3al5am, on 07/25/2008, -1/+23oh thats terrible .. but I had to digg you
- jparkinson, on 07/25/2008, -1/+23SOMEBODY HAS TO STOP BONO, HE IS THE BIGGEST EVIL DICTATOR IN THE WORLD!
- Mr.Gone, on 07/25/2008, -13/+34Beuller? Beuller? Beuller? Beuller? Hitler?
- davewashere, on 07/25/2008, -8/+28The other Hitlers tended to kill people who weren't white, so we don't pay much attention to them. On the all-time list of evil people, Hitler might squeeze into the top 25.
- unclecaveman, on 07/25/2008, -2/+21***** Glen Beck. That no-talent ass-clown makes a ***** of money for being the dumbest person to host their own talk show. Not only is he stupid, he is dangerous because he is on ALL THE TIME. He just recently hosted Larry King Live, giving him a terrifying amount of credibility. I have taken the liberty of compiling a list of Glen Beck's "Greatest Hits" for your viewing pleasure.
(Referring to Cindy Sheehan, AFTER calling her a "prostitute")
"She is pimping out the tragedy of her own son's death for her own agenda."
(In response to protests to shut down GITMO)
"If we think they are against us, we’re going to shoot them and kill them—period because that’s the only thing we’ve got going for us—cause we can't put them away and get information. If we can’t put them away and they’re going to use our court system—kill them."
(On the plight of New Orleans after Katrina)
"But the second thought I had when I saw these people and they had to shut down the Astrodome and lock it down, I thought: I didn't think I could hate victims faster than the 9-11 victims."
I couldn't make this ***** up, people. Please join me in hating Glen Beck with every fiber of your being. - RobotBuddha, on 07/25/2008, -1/+20What argument? It literally is "You know who else had a large crowd listening to him....hitler."
- wendelgee2, on 07/25/2008, -1/+20He was in the Nixon Administration after all.
- Taciturn, on 07/25/2008, -2/+20He's the star of the popular TV show, "Outwit the Money-Hoarding Jew."
Also he hates science, and red, dry eyes. - inactive, on 07/25/2008, -30/+48Stein is part of the cancer that's plaguing the world
- MrPeach, on 07/25/2008, -0/+18It almost seems like he has something affecting his brain - something like syphilis will cause mental aberration such as he is showing. Or perhaps Alzheimer's. Or maybe some sort of parasite.
I need to re-watch all those House MD episodes - perhaps there is a clue there. - doctorfungi, on 07/25/2008, -11/+29Just before I type this I'll note that I'm not an Obama fan boy. This is actually how I see it through a non-fan boy's eyes.
Hitler's cunning ability as a politician and his popularity is what made him draw crowds. Not his desire to commit genocide against the Jews and overthrow the world. If Obama giving a massive speech makes him like Hitler, it could only be for the things Hitler actually did well. -
