- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -20/+93Giving Saddam one of his own "red cards" is a touch of sadism that tells me they were more interested in revenge than justice. By copying the former dictator's cruelty, they have proved that the abyss has indeed stared back into them.
- Dalrek, on 10/12/2007, -11/+71No reason to execute? Do you even know who Saddam is?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39oh *****, i just realized, I can finally cross out my Ace of Spades from that Most Wanted Iraqi card set I bought like 3 years ago!
- Rejun, on 10/12/2007, -14/+42I didn't realize that Bush ordered the execution of thousands of US citizens.
Hell, I didn't even think there were thousands of executions in the US during his time in office.
Oh wait, that's because he didn't and there haven't been. Almost had me there. - randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -8/+34You watch these:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADQbhpfgVYo
And THEN you can ***** tell me there was no reason to execute. - TheChihuahua, on 10/12/2007, -16/+41Well not really...Saddam Hussein was a tyrant, a dictator and murderer. The people his government killed were unarmed civilians. Somewhat of a difference.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -12/+33No reason to execute since Life in prison is worse than a death sentence.
1. He wont look forward to heaven immediately.
2. He will suffer for an extra 10-15 years, treat him badly. People in life in prison dont deserve a lot of what they get.
3. He can be pumped for info.
4. He can be used as propaganda, convince followers to stop doing whatever.
5. He can give captors credibility for not executing.
Life in prison is worse than execution for people who believe they did the right thing.
They think they will go to heaven, and would welcome death. Life in prison will make em suffer more. - birdwatcher3000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25I bet we're gonna be reading a lot of ***** about Saddam Husein for the next few days.
- TwasBrillig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23Does this mean the other team gets a penalty kick?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I hope I'm not the only one who misread this site's URL.
- killinger777, on 10/12/2007, -9/+24How is any of this equivalent to hundreds of thousands of murders, rapes, torturings, gassings... No, it's not close to the same level.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19map of countries and american states still killing criminals http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fc/Death_Penalty_World_Map2.png
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Buried!
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24"And on top of that, Saddam killed Iraqis that we don't know and don't care about...Bush killed and is still killing our brothers and sisters."
WTF is wrong with you? - Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -14/+26Giving him one of his own red cards isnt a touch of sadism, it is simply a very iconic and memorable action. It is basically condemning the dictator to the same fate that he had done to so many others.

- theworldisround, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13...nvm...
we need a delete comment feature. - flag8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11In the event of an execution, it's hanged.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13"And what is wrong with the death penalty?"
Murder? - Kranklin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@foolfromhell
Maybe prison does suck, but if a heaven and hell does exist (Who'd ever thought?) I have a feeling hell would be worse
edit: Does he deserve to die? probably. Should we have done it? Thats debatable, but remember it was the Iraqi people who decided his fate anyway. - randomgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12He gased his own people. He's had peoples hands cut off and sent to him. He's had peoples tongues cut out for speaking bad about him. Beatings, limbs being severed, bones broken, rape, torture. These are routine acts, not single cases. There are mass graves all over Iraq, the tally some where around 400,000. So yeah, as you said, there is as much reason to execute him as can be.
- Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@chriskzoo:
numerous studies have also been done showing that the death penalty is no deterrent, either. Take that, and the fact that capital case convictions are being overturned often due to newly found evidence (those where the evidence is found BEFORE the wrongly convicted person is executed), and I believe there should be a moratorium on executions and death penalties.
For those who want vengeance or eye for an eye justice, that's your business, the governments should rise above mob mentality and emotion laden vengeance motives. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"Saddam'sll good fascist states"
uh.. what? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Yes, I heard about the Red Card. And...on that card was printed the message "Don't Mess with Texas".
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16There was as much reason to execute him as there can be.
That said, I'm not sure if I support his execution (or execution in general). - acceleriter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Hanged" is correct when referring to execution by hanging. I agree some intelligence should be brought--after you learn the language well enough to correct others and actually be right, try gracing us with yours again.
- mclumber1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I believe when referring to someone getting the noose, "hanged" is the proper wording.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -15/+21What's wrong with revenge?
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9What about all the GOOD things Saddam did?
- derblase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5oh ssh! you can't say that about Clinton! He's above reproach because he was on the other side of the fence from Bush!
Haha, a T shaped fence against which we're yet another side away from their sides. Get me?
I enjoy the blind eye people turn to Democrats, while trashing Republicans for similar things. Standing close enough to anything can create the illusion of any difference whatever. A little perspective please....I don't see us evacuating Iraq yet. Good thing congress/senate are in the hands of the good guys right? When will it begin?
Two groups of criminals. Choosing one side against the other isn't an absolution when it's either/or. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10What's wrong with the death penalty? The same thing that's wrong with abortion. Though unlike abortions, the death penalty is applied to people who are unmistakably alive. Yet, that's the one the republicans support.
"Republicans want live babies so they can raise them to be dead soldiers." - cheekdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@borninda818:
know what? you're an asswiping douche. i don't believe in this war. never thought we should have gone in the first place. but the difference between bush and hussein (among many) is that hussein ordered specific individuals to be murdered. he would call mass meetings with people he knew, call their names one by one and they'd be taken into the basement and shot. that's only a tip of the iceburg. much as i hate bush i can honestly say i can't imagine him or any other u.s. president publicly calling for immediate execution of any u.s. citizen without a trial and seeing it carried out right then. - AZTriGuy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Saddam, the tribe has spoke (snuffs out torch), it's time for you to leave.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7It's Iraqi law that he has one of those signed death cards. Don't you think you get paperwork here in the states if you're on death row ?
Kids these days can't think through a problem.
Saddam is gone, good riddance. Maybe the Iraqis will now get off their collective asses and start doing something with their country, without fear that maybe one day Saddam would come back and execute them all.
This is a great day for Iraq, and a stern warning to other dictators in the middle east. The world will not tolerate your *****. - Dundasbro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6@Muyoso
You hear that whooshing noise? Thats the point people have been trying to make flying right over your head as you uselessly try to grab at it retardly. Better luck next time. - Keddren, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12@PathDaemon
Didn't you get the memo? It's ok to kill people, as long as they're brown.
(and for those of you whose sarcasm meters are beyond repair, borninda818 is a goddamn moron) - BigKitty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@theworldsround,
I know this is off topic but I agree with you. DIGG software developers, we need a "delete" button along with the "update" button during the time that the comment we just submitted is open for editing. - naoise801, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Agreed.
Are we still failing to see the hypocrisy in the death penalty for those who kill? As far as warning dictators wowbagger, its unfortunate that America is under an iron fist, I hope someone stops tolerating our "*****" so people with your insight will start to see alternative options to peacekeeping. Perhaps Gandhian principles should get their chance. - Muyoso, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5How exactly am I responsible for a corporation going over to a poor country and employing some of its people? Do you have evidence of corporations killing thousands of people? And how exactly is Bush responsible for millions dead? By your logic, the UN is responsible for over a billion people dead in its lifetime, shouldnt you be espousing hate towards them?
- Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4in case you didn't get it, its the WINNERS who get to decide who's a war criminal or who has commited crimes against humanity.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes. now instead of one dictator, murderer, insane ***** ... we have what ... seven of them? Wow ... big changes. Kill the killer and be the killer.
you are all sheep for thinking that this means anything. - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Nobody gives a ***** about your blog.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@chriskzoo
Thats why I said "I'm not sure".
@foolfromhell
I see no reason to make him suffer either. Like people have been saying "an eye for an eye leaves everyone blind". Life in prison would give him time to think about all the atrocities he's committed. Maybe he'd have eventually sought forgiveness. - acceleriter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cite authority for "correct" vs. "right" please.
- iLEZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Muyoso:
In what way is that map BS? Does it not clearly show what it says it is showing? There are lots of factors to concider (prisons, organized crime, etc) when discussing this, but what is wrong with that map? - naoise801, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Practice forgiveness? Kind of like in every holy book in existence.
Or maybe that is crazy and vindictive behavior should be exalted? Hmm, no. I think the reason our world is in such chaos is because of this principle, think deeper on it. - timla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The biggest reason to execute sadam was to make sure he was not coming back. That man had shown himself to be very very resilient. Many in Iraq were worried that he would eventually come back. In a society like the US, Europe, japan and Australia, you can be sure a justified life sentence without parole will be carried out, but not in the rest of the world.
Executing him was as much to make sure the Iraqi's could sleep at night as much as it was about punishment. - yubpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3although saddam may have very well deserved everything that befell him, i do believe it does not good to execute him, as for sure there are others in the world today whose actions are just as despicable and that in the future there will be even worse to follow in such terrible people's footsteps.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I agree.
While Hitler was imprisoned in the early 20's for his first effort to overthrow the German government, he wrote "Mein Kampf". Afterwards, he was elected into the Reichstag and eventually promoted to Chancellor. Then....all hell breaks loose.
Napoleon escaped from the Island Prison of Elba and led France into another European war.
Etc. Etc.... - adriyel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes because killing a Dictator after giving him a full trial and humane treatment in prison is definitely the same as raping and murdering thousands of people with no trial or just cause. I'll have to adopt this logic, could make my life a lot simpler. /sarcasm
