- mport1, on 07/10/2008, -46/+141Obama - big government. McCain - big government.
Barr is the only choice for smaller government and more civil liberties. - angryfirelord, on 07/10/2008, -14/+81Freedom is popular.
- jboffer, on 07/10/2008, -20/+84And check out Bob Barr's statement on his website about the FISA Amendment. Barack Obama voted for retroactive immunity for telecom companies that helped Bush commit a felony by spying on the American people without a warrant. McCain didn't vote on the bill, but he supported it. Bob Barr condemned the bill.
- KAZVorpal, on 07/10/2008, -12/+72Barr spent his entire career attacking civil liberties. He lost his seat in Congress because the LIBERTARIAN PARTY campaigned against him, considering him one of the top enemies of liberty.
"With this victory, we have fired a warning shot for every drug warrior in Congress to hear. And any member of Congress -- Democrat or Republican -- who introduces legislation to make federal drug laws even more oppressive could be next on our list."
—Ron Crickenberger, Libertarian Party Political Director, August 2002, regarding their successful campaign AGAINST Bob Barr
I no more believe he's magically become libertarian than I believe McCain has magically become Conservative. - kemp34, on 07/10/2008, -24/+83Whatever you do, do NOT vote for either of the two headed "McBombya" snake. Research and select another alternative, be it Barr or someone else. Avoid the two headed monster at all costs! FISA is just the latest example of egregious *****.
- tajitj, on 07/10/2008, -7/+60It is getting exciting for someone who supports 3rd parties. He is polling at 6% nationally. Even if you don't agree with Bob we should all want him in the debates. It will add some substance to the election cycle.

- Daamien, on 07/10/2008, -7/+48As Washington warned us in his 1796 Farewell Address, political parties (or as he stated "factions") are corrupting and do not serve the interests of the American people. Our current two party system abuses our form of republican government by favoring the interests of an elite and self-serving group of men and women whose differences in policy and tactics are largely minor over the interests of constituents. The least we can do to reject the status quo is to support third-party candidates in the future as an alternative to electing officials from either major political party who seek power rather than change and portray deception rather than sincerity.
Vote with your conscience and demand more media attention for these third-party candidates to expand the political discourse in our country. Even if you do not support Bob Barr, I implore you to continue to highlight his candidacy for others. Perhaps our efforts can justify his presence in a future nationally-televised debate. - Hortnon, on 07/10/2008, -29/+69"The flames of hedonism, the flames of narcissism, the flames of self-centered morality are licking at the very foundation of our society, the family unit"
-Bob Barr on homosexuality.
"Bob Barr, Republican Congressman from Georgia. Sponsored the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act, saying "The flames of hedonism, the flames of narcissism, the flames of self-centered morality are licking at the very foundation of our society, the family unit." Was married three times. Paid for his second wife's abortion. Failed to pay child support to the children of his first two wives and while married to his third and present wife was photographed licking whipped cream off of strippers at his inaugural party."

(in the comments) - smarty927, on 07/11/2008, -3/+39Meh, I don't know about that one. Many people turned to Ron Paul because of his honesty and principled voting record. They knew they could trust him though they disagreed with him on issues. RP has been married to the same woman for over 50 years. Bob Barr has voted for the PATRIOT Act and he pushed that bill on the defense of marriage act though he's been married three times. Bob Barr is not the new Ron Paul. He's an alternative to McCain and Obama. Barr isn't as well versed on economics as RP either. Ron Paul is one in a million, and it's a shame that he didn't get enough attention. That being said, I'm voting for Barr because I believe in what he stands for *now*, and I believe that he would do a great job if elected.
- richmomz, on 07/11/2008, -3/+35Barr is a mere shadow of Ron Paul.
- qpingu, on 07/11/2008, -7/+32Digg.com: you've got to love the underdog.
- swrostmore, on 07/11/2008, -11/+35More government, says the man who helped spend $80 million dollars investigating the Bill Clinton blowjob witch hunt. Well, I guess he'd know all about it.
- nutsackorama, on 07/11/2008, -14/+38Bob Barr? Really? You people are ***** absurd. McCain and Obama are corporate *****, so you're going to support some half-ass ex-neocon hawk who jumps ship when someone calls ***** on his *****? He voted for The Patriot Act. He knew better, and chose to vote otherwise. I mean - Regan appointed him. Jesus H.
- CSBPRS, on 07/11/2008, -15/+39Take a look into Bob Barr's past and voting record. The man is racist, homophobic, and extremely right-wing. A Barr presidency would be a major setback for the country. You may not think Barack Obama or John McCain are right for the country, but Barr is undoubtedly the wrong pick.
- JDoorjam, on 07/11/2008, -6/+28Dear Bob, you blew $80 million prosecuting Bill Clinton, voted for the Patriot Act, and want the government in our bedroom. You're actually kind of an *****. But hey, go steal votes from McCain!
- mcla007, on 07/11/2008, -2/+24But hey, he's turned a new leaf! And just in time for the elections too!!
- elvenseven, on 07/11/2008, -9/+31Barr voted for the Patriot Act too lol
- mcla007, on 07/11/2008, -3/+24How eager we are to be deceived. "Mr. Barr has held rational positions on the drug war for 4 years now." Wow, holy freakin' FOUR years! That's like since 2004 AD! That must be a record for a politician. Our expectations from politicians are so low darned that we are grateful if anybody holds on to a position for half a minute.
Cheers! - fadeout, on 07/11/2008, -11/+31Barr's idea of reducing the size of government?
Banning religious minorities from the military.
He's quite the class act. - LumpyRevolution, on 07/10/2008, -11/+29I don't care who you vote for as long as it NOT the lesser of two evils!
Cast a vote against them! Show up God damnit! Show up and bring EVERYONE to cast a vote against them! We CAN get America back damnit! We CAN!!! Just SHOW UP AND VOTE AGAINST THEM!!! ... or lose it all like a fool! - vault, on 07/11/2008, -7/+25Didn't Barr vote for the Patriot Act, Minarchian?
And went from being hardcore federal prohibition of marijuana to ending the war on drugs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr#War_on_drugs
Why on earth would you vote for this guy if you are "pro-liberty" whatever that means? - marksven, on 07/11/2008, -6/+24Look beyond the few issues he posts on his website, and see where he stands on other issues:
- Voted YES on banning gay adoptions
- Supports anti-flag desecration amendment
- Voted YES on prohibiting needle exchange & medical marijuana in DC
- Let schools display the words "God Bless America"
- Supports requiring schools to allow prayer
- Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad
source: http://www.ontheissues.org/Bob_Barr.htm - richmomz, on 07/11/2008, -1/+19Hardly.
- Hortnon, on 07/11/2008, -5/+22Wait, he wants to repeal the bill he sponsored?
- xXkakuraXx, on 07/10/2008, -26/+43Wow... keep on digging guys. We've made pretty good progress with this on so far.
Go Bob Barr - spread the word and tell everyone who to vote for to keep America strait. - FENWAYFREAK, on 07/11/2008, -4/+21Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. -The Who
- Minarchian, on 07/11/2008, -5/+22He also changed his stance on it and worked to change it while in office. And since leaving he has been railing against it.
Everyone is entitled to change their views. And it's a real man who'll admit he blew it and work to correct his mistake, which Barr has and is doing.
But, nonetheless, trust is not possible for me. All politicians have let me down. I'll vote for Barr, but I'll watch his every move. - Rocketman1882, on 07/11/2008, -7/+24I honestly can't trust him. He's not Ron Paul, he's not Obama. He seems like a guy who just wants to eat everyone's cake and appear that he doesn't want to.
I agree with a lot of what he's saying (I'm a libertarian) but his change is just too fresh... I'd rather him talk more about his policies first before jumping on a god damn bandwagon. - Pssdoff, on 07/11/2008, -5/+21"You're not going to win this election" This statement appears in every Bob Barr interview.
"Beyond the double digits?" WTF is he talking about?
I suppose McCain is expecting to receive at least 248% of the votes then?
... and this is called news. Ha! Did you hear the lead in for the next topic?
..." As STORIES of government abuse keep growing.... shill shill shill" - Arcxjo, on 07/10/2008, -2/+18It wasn't a "felony", it was outright treason by way of treating any and all US citizens as enemy combatants. Unless the felony you refer to was perjuring his oath to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
- mt330404, on 07/11/2008, -10/+25If you are:
anti gay marriage
pro drug war
pro patriot act
pro iraq war
then bob barr is your man.
he's NOT mine. - evryonesacritic, on 07/11/2008, -13/+27Libertarians believe in the American heritage of liberty, enterprise, and personal responsibility. Libertarians recognize the responsibility we all share to preserve this precious heritage for our children and grandchildren. We believe that being free and independent is a great way to live. We want a system which encourages all people to choose what they want from life; that lets them live, love, work, play, and dream their own way. The Libertarian way is a logically consistent approach to politics based on the moral principle of self-ownership. Each individual has the right to control his or her own body, action, speech, and property. Government's only role is to help individuals defend themselves from force and fraud. It is Time America! Enough is Enough you have to stop this and make America Great again. Please visit www.bobbarr2008.com and join the campaign to restore this great nation. For Peace, Freedom & Prosperity ~ Bob Barr for President
- briguymaine, on 07/11/2008, -2/+16sounds like a typical politician
- Hypomanic, on 07/11/2008, -8/+22He's Ron Paul 2.0... kind of like Windows ME... newer yet more flaws and we'll all be moving on very very quickly.
- Hortnon, on 07/11/2008, -9/+21I don't care what he says, just like Paul. I care what he does.
And what he does contradicts what he claims to stand for. - Minarchian, on 07/11/2008, -12/+23It's really true Hortnon.
It's the message you don't like.
Even if it means ignoring what Barr has said, in that he will repeal the DOMA if elected. http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid54947.asp
You did the same ***** to Paul. Your hatred is not the man, it's the message.
Hortnon, you're just like the other anti-freedom loons that spew their ignorance at digg. Thanks for showing me you're an enemy of liberty. Which I have no doubt in my mind is true now. - kebmo19, on 07/11/2008, -0/+11Absolutely stunning the incompetence of the questioning here. 1st he tells the LIbertarian nominee he hasn't yet received the nomination, then he talks about doing "better that double-digits" to win the presidency. I'm reminded again why I don't watch fox news. WTF?
- deadbaby, on 07/11/2008, -12/+23Yes... Americans want less Government interference in our lives... so let's ban gay marriage and impeach President Clinton for getting a blow job. Less government? Huh?
- sugarazor, on 07/11/2008, -2/+13"Magically become conservative," you say?
Maybe that's why Barr proposed to keep Wiccans out of the military, so they couldn't fight his magic with more magic! - etherreal, on 07/11/2008, -1/+11Not this ***** again. Once again: CUTTING FUNDING TO ISRAEL DOES NOT MAKE YOU AN ANTISEMITE.
- daviddiaz, on 07/11/2008, -4/+14haha I remember him in Borat when he is offered "cheese my wife make from milk from her tit"
idk how I feel about Barr though. He seems cool now, but he was just a plain-old bible-toting conservative not too long ago. - ericmerrill, on 07/11/2008, -3/+13I'll digg anything with "McBama" in the title. Heehee...McBama.
- etherreal, on 07/11/2008, -11/+21Rocketman, did you just say you trusted Obama? After he completely caved on FISA?
- vault, on 07/11/2008, -1/+11Obama caved. Just accept it and realize you'll never have a candidate you agree with 100%, short of writing in your own name.
If you're a lib you can't really defend telecom immunity. McCain does a lot of stuff that pisses me off, too. - lazerus9, on 07/11/2008, -3/+13Barr voted for the Patriot Act.......thats all that I need to know about Barr!
He is right about McCain and Obama. - geoken, on 07/11/2008, -3/+12Now that you guys have an extra party on each side of the spectrum, you should vote with your beliefs and not out of a fear that you'll be throwing your vote away.
- skteoievtehr, on 07/11/2008, -3/+12Except that he voted for the PATRIOT ACT and the Iraq Invasion--two issues that Ron Paul lovers are just ADAMANT about. So, HOW exactly is he the new Ron Paul? You mean he's not McCain or Obama? Or you mean that, he too, can't and won't win?
- ericmerrill, on 07/11/2008, -2/+11I wish not to digg you sir but to raise you on my shoulders so that you may royally slap everyone with that link.
Just to throw an observation out there, I've noticed two emerging styles of the American voter: one can be represented in example by a lesbian I know, who voted for Bush over Gore AND Kerry simply over the their supposed attitudes toward abortion. Single-issue voters.
The other is the keyword voter, like my businessman brother-in-law who votes republican consistently simply for the singular belief that democrats stand for BIG TAXES and republicans stand for LITTLE TAXES. Other keywords that swing voters include BIG GOVERNMENT or LITTLE GOVERNMENT, or CAPITALISM and SOCIALISM. - inactive, on 07/11/2008, -0/+9Bob Barr < Ron Paul
