- chowmeined, on 10/11/2007, -8/+65The excuses for not impeaching are laughable, "It would consume too much time and too many resources", "It would be counterproductive". It really needs to be done. Not only because the Bush administration has committed illegal act after illegal act but because what they are doing disagrees with most Americans. This _is_ a democracy and elected officials should be doing what the majority of people want.
We need to impeach them for their callous disregard for the founding principals of this country, and to show that it is ultimately the people who are in control. If we let them get away with this then either future presidents may think they can get away with the same things or the current administration will choose to 'waive' the next elections.
Be politically active. Contact your state's elected officials and tell them your views on this. - sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -1/+25I miss Bill Clinton. All you had to do was hide the fat girls and you were set.
- qubesquare, on 10/11/2007, -3/+19When the heck did elected officials start to "know" better than the people that elected them? I voted for people that would end this terrible administration. Me and my vote get spit on. Impeachment is the only course now.
- atheinostic, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9A republic is a form of democracy. Direct democracy is not the only kind of democracy.
- rcran, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Monica should come out of retirement, do us all some good.
- diggerydood, on 10/11/2007, -7/+14We need more support from the Repugs for impeachment. If you have one as your rep start calling and ask if their loyalty is to Bush/Cheney or the people in their district.
Also contact your local television stations and inform them that your TV will be UNPLUGGED until Bush and Cheney are gone. Lower viewership means lower advertising dollars and lower profits/ bonuses for the people who control the message. - Farnn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Democratic republic to be precise.
- NuclearBlast, on 10/11/2007, -7/+13Barbara Boxer is by far one of the best democrat or politician out there.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6There should never be a grounds for "not impeaching". Impeachment proceedings are a form of censure. This censure can extend to criminal charges, but it in and of itself harmless, aside from being embarassing. In my book, every president should be impeached where possible(and it always is). Its a good thing. Now I don't favor criminal proceedings or removal in nearly all cases, but its good to let the big guy know he did a bad thing and you noticed.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10How about the Democrats do something in congress? Maybe pass a bill or two, something, anything, just ***** do something.
The witch hunt is getting boring - pintomp3, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7yeah, seeking justice is a huge waste of time. we shouldn't bother prosecuting any criminals.
- reaganluver, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3No one likes San Francisco? I like San Francisco! good god think of all the wonderful music and art that has came out of the city? Jimi Hendrix live at the Fillimore anyone?
- hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4You´d still side with the republicans if they´d eat babies, wouldn´t you? You just don´t care about reality. You fail at democracy. Why do you even take part in a conversation?
- reaganluver, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Releasing the name of a CIA agent is treason, some one in the executive branch did so, bush won't cooperate with the legal proceedings. Accessory to treason for 1000 Alex?
- hiphoc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I think what makes us a Democracy is that our Senate is directly elected. The original Constitution said that the Senate were to be appointed by the State legislators. The house represents the people and the senate represents the states. The states have no say in the current Congress. It wasn't supposed to be like that. The state legislators could recall the senator whenever they wish. That's why they have 6 year terms. Because if they ***** up, they could be pulled and not serve the term. You guys need to look at history between 1913 and 1928. 1913 was an especially bad year. Federal Reserve, the income tax, prohibition, beginning of the drug war, the UN/League of Nations, Directly elected senate. Bad times folks. Many of those amendments werent even legally ratified. Like the ones about taxes and the directly elected senate. This entire govt is ***** illegitimate. They go along with this ***** cause they get power out of it. Watch Diebold in 2008 and kick ail those ***** out..
- AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4What does jailing a murderer do? Sure they're locked away but the victims are still dead.
- zeroesandones, on 10/11/2007, -6/+9Barbara Boxer is a joke. Are Americans still falling for this good cop bad cop *****? Let's remember only Congress has a lower rating than Bush/Cheney. Democrats and Republicans are two sides of the same coin and until everyone wakes the ***** up, nothing is going to change.
- alucinante, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I have a question. I don't really see much television, thus I almost never catch the national news on any network. Does this ever come up? the possiblity of impeachment, that is. I mean is the mainstream media this screwed up?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Term limits on congress would send a distinct message to them
- cave, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3But how does this piss of pirates?? ARRRR
Oops sorry, wrong thread. - jeffdjohnson, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I wholeheartedly agree with the comments of chowmeined, KibibyteBrain, and Farnn.
However, Boxer makes a good point about the Senate having to hold Bush to all of the other problems he's caused (war, Gonzalez, Katrina, etc.). If the Senate doesn't handle an impeachment carefully, then everything will just blow up in their faces -- Bush, his cronies, and Faux news will accuse the Democrats of being political rather than taking care of the bigger problem of Iraq.
I think to do this right, the Democrats need to get a single message out and out often: "The Republicans will say that we're more interested in politics than fixing a war. But amidst handling all of the other issues, such as the war, health care, and global warming, we have to hold these fools accountable for driving our country into the ground."
Glad I got that off my chest. I'm sure I'll be flamed for not being gung ho for impeachment, but I realize that those Senators have careers too, and need to consider what we, the people, think (or are influenced by the ***** media). - Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Not really. In a democracy "the people" vote. "The people" are never ALL people.
Minors cannot vote in any democracy I know of.
In historical democracies, only the upper class was allowed a vote (Greece anyone?) - skyfire1, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Impeachment isn't on the table because everyone likes fast food.
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Great excuse.

- combustion8, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Boxer's done nothing good for california since shes been here.
- LastVisibleDog, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Do it BITCH! I am so sick of the whiny all-talk Democrats
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Right, because Bush didn't grossly expand executive power, trample on checks and balances, the will of the people, and civil liberty. It is, as you say, *****.
- Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Different tactics for different parties.
Neither party is particularly moral with its tactics, though it seems the Republicans have been more ruthless and effective as of late - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Be careful of what you wish for. They almost passed amnesty to 20,000,000 illegal invaders.
- Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's legally dubious because he likes Bush.
Just like I had a friend who liked OJ Simpson, so trying him for murder was legally dubious - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1This needs to be moved to the "special" BDS section so that all the whacko left-wing DiggBotts can find it!
- dinostabOMG, on 10/11/2007, -6/+7Explain how it's legally dubious. That should be interesting, as I'm sure the president would have to do so.
- bshock, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Damn straight. Impeachment is what's for dinner.
- Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I remember being pushed at the face the Democrats gave after all the ***** that was pulled in Florida over the ballots. They practically turned on Gore, and quietly shrugged when more and more independent results confirmed that Gore would've won.
They're -all- in the pockets of the leadership. - Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1let's let all the murderers in the country free. Really, leave the prisons for people who take drugs (they're the only ones worth locking away to prevent them from smoking more pot)
- AxeSwinger, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Quit hiding behind national security regarding the warrentless wire tapping and stop crying executive privilege at every corner and I will. This administration has spent more energy covering their tracks and stonewalling than any other. If you can't understand that it is counterproductive for everyone you might as well just go finish your cup of kool aid.
- michaelhood, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"Creating" the Lewinsky scandal?
You're suggesting that as part of some master plot: A Republican fathered her, raised her, and as part of some covert op had her inserted as an intern at the White House, then had her seduce Clinton? - Novagenesis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Ok, dumbass. Do tell me how -I- can impeach Bush...I want to know. I'm not a democrat, but I want to see him impeached.
Oh wait...I ***** can't. The Speaker of the House won't put in on the table..whatever party she is, her pockets are being lined with gold - jonathansoeder, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Look people. Bush isn't going to be impeached for the same reasons not a single congressman stood up to the fact that he only became President through a COUP! The Bush Cartel is a criminal organization and it holds most politicians -- probably literally -- at gun point. Or through spying it can blackmail any one of them and ruin their career. Don't forget the Bush Cartel has been very powerful going back to pre-world war II and was integral to the formation of the intelligence agencies and the military industrial complex throughout the post WWII era.
Think about these facts:
George Bush's Father -- once directory of the CIA , an agency with many successful coup d'etat under its belt already -- appointed the supreme court justices who voted his son into office when -he- was president.
George Bush's Brother was the governor of the state of Florida which decided the elections in 2000.
His Campaign Manager was the secretary of state of Florida.
The massive voter fraud and disenfranchisement that occurred in Florida with the direct involvement of these two people is a matter of public record and is indisputable!
Why wouldn't they have impeached him before considering everyone in Washington was aware of these facts even before we were?
Because they can't. Our democracy is a facade. It doesn't exist. Stop relying on something which does not exist to fix our problems.
America's problems are much more deep seated than something a simple change of leadership can fix. - adamdigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Stop making excuses for them. The Democrats in congress probably don't have the ability to impeach Cheney and Bush, but that should not be the goal. We hired them to stop the war, using the "power of the purse" provided by the US Constitution. They have enough votes to prevent war funding, but these spineless sacks of ***** have let it through. Just like the Republicans, they signed the bills. They handed over $110 billion to the Administration just last year, and are now complicit in the deaths of thousands of Americans and innocent Iraqis. They are making *US* complicit. That's OK with you?
- Farnn, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You mean that after the Republicans impeached Clinton for lying under oath, which clearly was politically motivated though they did have leagal grounds for it. The Democrats aren't going to want to go after Bush? Hey, I'm not saying the republicans are any better, I'm sure they would go after a Democratic president if they were in the same situation.
- hfactor, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2You forgot "wimps".
Get away from your keyboard and shoot at bottles in your backyard or something. - adamdigg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Unfortunately some of the bills included spending billions of dollars more to continue occupying Iraq.
- rationalist, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Democrats don't even have a real majority in the Senate, let alone enough votes to end a filibuster.
Why don't you educate yourself minimally in how government actually works, rather than blindly adhering to some pollyanna feel-good fantasy.
Why don't you stop to consider the political consequences of attempting and failing to impeach. You'd be handing the next elections to the Republicans on a platter.
It's like the Iraq war withdrawal. People are frothing at the mouth that the Democrats haven't already sent ships out to bring everyone home yesterday. The votes are not there yet. The real world of our representative democracy requires actual votes, not wishful thinking.
Just work harder to elect bigger Democratic majorities in 2008. The worst thing naive absolutists can do is throw up their hands because they don't get their way immediately. That is not a mature way to act as a responsible citizen of a republic. Your vote did not get spit on, it got diluted by several tens of millions of other votes. Work harder next time, along with the rest of us, to change the mix. - ggeiger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1actually ur getting dugg up
