- oconnor11, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3Paul doesn't have an ego so big that he'd accept the position of V.P. if asked. He has a voice in Congress and is helping others to get Congressional seats in both the House and Senate. He's doing more in the House and more like him are coming in. He won't be a lone vote much longer.
- sollycardy, on 05/25/2008, -0/+3It's obvious that you know little about Ron Paul because you posted this. If you knew more about Ron Paul you might understand why this is not going to happen and we will continue to fight for freedom- that's real change. Not just a slogan.
- NikoliV, on 05/24/2008, -0/+2(“The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers” is Ron Paul's quote)
- FTWmovin2canada, on 05/24/2008, -1/+2I'd love to see them in a debate and watch Obama / Paul beat the crap out of McCain with the constitution.
- Iamien, on 05/24/2008, -0/+1Coppied the title from the source. Cannot believe I didn't notice the spelling mistake.
- thecoolestguy, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1--------While the phrase "separation of church and state" isn't in the Constitution, it is merely a phrase we use to describe the words that are in there "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." (Is it also true that the "right to privacy" or even "right to a fair trial." aren't in the Constitution because the specific phrases are absent though the principles certainly are?)-----------
Wrong, the Constitution does NOT barr State governments from creating state religions, only Congress. That is Ron Paul's point. As far a "right to privacy" or a "right to a fair trial", you reserve all rights, it is federal GOVERNMENT that is given rights via the Constitution. You don't need a Constitution to spell out which rights you do and don't have.
----Ron Paul also authored H.R. 1094, a bill that declares that "human life shall be deemed to exist from conception." a standard Christian Right viewpoint and one that would be enforced nation-wide.---
You're misinformed on this bill, it's only power would have been to strip the federal government of the power to force legalization of abortion on all states. - thecoolestguy, on 05/27/2008, -0/+1Oh yes, that's just what we need to get Israel's friend in the media to start the worst smear campaign in history; a psuedo-muslim president who wants peace in the middle east, and a non-interventionist vice-president who wants to cut off all foreign aid to the rest of the world.
- tajitj, on 05/24/2008, -2/+2Not going to happen. Plain and simple. Paul I think could talk some sense into Obama. I believe Obama will end up being a Paul conservative when he gets into office and realizes the things he wants to do for people is best done by the pivate sector. That is why I am not that down on Obama. He will learn the truth and change his positions.
- MariaSklodowska, on 05/24/2008, -0/+0And what is your favourite Obama's idea?
- inactive, on 05/24/2008, -2/+1Obama Paul ticket could unite the country against fascist neo cons...
it could restore the Constitution it would mean that cleaning the House and smashing the military industrial complex as JFK wanted just before his death is possible...
actually I was told that Dennis Kucinich told Obama to choose Ron Paul as his VP.... - Iamien, on 05/24/2008, -3/+0Im an Obama supported who knows a little about Ron Paul. How do you feel about this?
- NikoliV, on 05/24/2008, -5/+2Yes, Ron Paul's great for taking down Giuliani on the Iraq war & 9/11.
But “The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers”
While the phrase "separation of church and state" isn't in the Constitution, it is merely a phrase we use to describe the words that are in there "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." (Is it also true that the "right to privacy" or even "right to a fair trial." aren't in the Constitution because the specific phrases are absent though the principles certainly are?)
Ron Paul also authored H.R. 1094, a bill that declares that "human life shall be deemed to exist from conception." a standard Christian Right viewpoint and one that would be enforced nation-wide.
Declaring that life begins at conception requires that all abortions be criminalized, because if a fetus is alive, that means that it is guaranteed the legal protection of the Fourteenth Amendment, thus criminalizing abortion. He is a smart man, so he knows exactly what he was doing when he wrote that bill, and he was being dishonest when he said that this should be a states' issue.
Ron Paul also co-sponsored the school prayer amendment, is against stem-cell research, & believes Roe v. Wade should be overturned.
Ron Paul is not my view of a libertarian (those believing that respect for individual rights is the essential precondition for a free and prosperous world) and he's certainly not a progressive.
