- Suzpaz, on 08/29/2008, -46/+587He just lined out everything he would do as president! He rebutted every single issue McCain has been criticizing him for! He even challenged McCain for a debate on the "Commander in chief Issue".
No matter your political color you can't deny that was a fantastic speech.
As a European, I've been following this race for a long time now, because I care about what happens to America.
I'm sitting here at 5 A.M to watch this. America is one of the major superpowers in the world, and your stance on issues can decide the fates of millions of people outside USA. I don't want to fear America. I want to respect it. And I think McCain is the fear factor when it comes to international image of America.
I think I speak for 90% of Europe when I say: Obama for president!
Love from Norway - DaedalusvX, on 08/29/2008, -49/+524"You know, John McCain likes to say he'll follow Osama Bin Laden to the Gates of Hell, but he won't even follow him to the cave in which he lives." - Obama
God DAMN that was a good line. - Foot56, on 08/29/2008, -90/+414My fellow Americans, let me be the first to introduce the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama. What an amazing speech that not only inspired those who lost hope but challenged us as everyday Americans.
- F7F7F7F7, on 08/29/2008, -28/+284I'm 28, and I'm guessing that was what is was like to be there when Kennedy made his most historic speech. Everything is changed now. It's the most amazing thing in the world, to suddenly feel like you are really a part of this country instead of lost in it.
Worst job in the world tonight is being McCain's speech writer. - Foot56, on 08/29/2008, -16/+215This is what made this speech (atleast I think so)
"So let us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country, and so do you, and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America - they have served the United States of America." - pas2leo53, on 08/29/2008, -27/+223That was the most amazing speech I've seen a politician give in my lifetime. If America elects McCain after that, it would prove that there is something fundamentally flawed in America's electorate. Please, watch the speech and tell me that you aren't moved...I don't believe that it's possible.
- twister17e, on 08/29/2008, -51/+217It's time to take back our country! What a great speech!
- twister17e, on 08/29/2008, -8/+169"I don't want to fear America. I want to respect it." I just wanted to add being from the US, I want to be proud of my country again.
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -46/+202Amazing, simply amazing.
- 52growler, on 08/29/2008, -52/+207I haven never felt so proud to be an American as I am now.
- thelastcivilian, on 08/29/2008, -18/+165"So I've got news for you, John McCain. We all put our country first."
There were some killer lines tonight, plenty of rallying cries. ...and damned if the man delivered them with authoritay. - macapplejobs, on 08/29/2008, -19/+165MCain will need an oxygen tank to give a speech that long...
- 52growler, on 08/29/2008, -57/+189I haven't felt so free in all my life.
- Rizin, on 08/29/2008, -10/+139Fox 5 News in New York City called the Speech Generic. They also said "the attacks on McCain were excessive" and that Obama looked "Uncomfortable during the speech". Seems they also didn't like the mentioning of JFK and MLK.
I have no idea what they were listening to but Obama just hit a home run for the Democratic Party. - djcap, on 08/29/2008, -24/+148"Instead, it is that American spirit - that American promise - that pushes us forward even when the path is uncertain; that binds us together in spite of our differences; that makes us fix our eye not on what is seen, but what is unseen, that better place around the bend."
I hope this becomes the "ask not" of our generation. It has the potential. - Lynx55, on 08/29/2008, -22/+137Totally inspired. I have listened to great speeches from great men and woman, but nothing, NOTHING like this. They can say or do anything they want. They can never take this away from us. NEVER. It wouldn't surprise me if the Obama site crashes tomorrow with so many volunteers. I know I will be one,, even disabled, I can make phone calls, and write letters. He is amazing. I even sent money from my disability check, and believe me, that hurts!
Btw, I hear they may be "delaying" the GOP convention...in St Paul...due to a possible hurricane in the GULF. ROFL!!! In other words, they can't compete with this, and need to circle their wagons. Good luck boys!!!! he he ha ha he he he
God Bless his mother, and his Grandparents, that's all I have to say. The crowd was mesmerized, and before the speech, MSN was thinking the speech was too long to hold the crowd! People were still sitting there after it was over, stunned!
OBAMA / BIDEN
EIGHT IS ENOUGH!!
NOT FOUR MORE! - enki25, on 08/29/2008, -22/+135I just donated $100 to Barack Obama. It’s an investment and I highly recommend you all make it.
If McCain gets elected and continues 4 years of Bush economics, my share of the national debt will increase from $31,000 to $51,000. In other words, preventative action may help me avoid a twenty thousand dollar burden.
If Barack Obama gets elected he will increase capital gain tax rates and the income tax rates on the super rich to decrease the deficit. Not only that, his economic plan decreases my tax rate and medical insurance premiums, I will save $2000 over the next four years. This, of course, ignores the benefits to industry that will come from making investments in our domestic infrastructure. But even just these factors yield much more than a 100% annual rate of return. - gubbie, on 08/29/2008, -19/+123Top that, McCain.
- Roadrunner34, on 08/29/2008, -26/+125I have never heard such a eloquent and passionate speech in my life. He truly makes me believe in a better America
- aee729, on 08/29/2008, -28/+120The next President of the United States
- relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -21/+113"John McCain likes to say that he’ll follow bin Laden to the Gates of Hell -- but he won’t even follow him to the cave where he lives."
BAM!
Don't tell me change is rhetoric without a plan after listening to this speech tonight. - binford04, on 08/29/2008, -25/+116Barack Obama will drink your milkshake John McCain
- inactive, on 08/29/2008, -17/+103"8 IS ENOUGH!"
~Barack Obama - empath, on 08/29/2008, -20/+106Even if Obama is half the man he seemed to be on that stage tonight, that's still twice the man Bush could ever be.
- punjab551, on 08/29/2008, -9/+92The sad thing is that there are probably more people that care about our country outside of it than inside.
Love from America, (though I am ~20% Norwegian) - superfe, on 08/29/2008, -14/+90one of my favorite lines is "What the nay-sayers don't understand is that this election has never been about me. It's been about you."
- capkix, on 08/29/2008, -15/+88My children will listen to this speech at college 20 years from now as a turning point in American history. This is what American Rhetoric is all about - inspiring ourselves and the rest of the world.
- MCFunk, on 08/29/2008, -20/+93There is no more doubt: These are legendary times, and we are a part of that legend.
- lamarguerite, on 08/29/2008, -21/+92This man is unbelievable! I so badly want him to be the nest President . . .
- sugarazor, on 08/29/2008, -11/+82You know tonight touched a nerve when the Republicans are considering delaying their convention.
- Shuk, on 08/29/2008, -24/+95This was a fantastic speech. I can't wait to see his inaugural address.
- Shiftgood, on 08/29/2008, -3/+71I watched FOX just to see what they came up with.
Step 1: Talk to Karl Rove (shouldn't they arrest him!?) who said the speech was meaningless. or "prove it"
Step 2: Ignore it - "in 13 hours McCain will announce his running mate, lets go talk to the McCain campagin about who hes going to pick and what the prospects are" (this lasted a very long time)
Step 3: Get a fat evangelical middle american woman to say "I dont think anyone is going to change their Mind about tonight, Obama is out of touch with the lower class and he simply doesnt have the expierence"
Step 4: Show lots of black people. Watching the clips you noticed about 80% of the people shown were black.
Step 5: Lets ask the same question 10x in a row even after someone answered it, ask it again (not kidding). "does he have experience? nobody thinks he does, does he? i dont want my president out of control"
Step 6: Profit - Wriggle, on 08/29/2008, -21/+89I love how his speeches are unspinnable.
*awaits FOX response* - pintomp3, on 08/29/2008, -2/+60i was a P.O.W
the end. - keigwyn, on 08/29/2008, -18/+75I was riveted. We need that man in the White House to inspire us to keep fighting for the American Promise. Eight is Enough!!!
- NoireStar, on 08/29/2008, -23/+79YES WE CAN ... GO OUT & ROCK THE VOTE IN NOVEMBER!!!
- gubbie, on 08/29/2008, -5/+59I heard they called it "generic."
... yeah ok. - trotskyist, on 08/29/2008, -29/+83Obama '12
- gaapgod, on 08/29/2008, -28/+81If Obama does everything he promised in that speech, we will be a great American president. In recent history, only Kennedy and Reagan have. Only time will tell.
- seanwuzhere, on 08/29/2008, -12/+63Enough! It's time to take this country back.
- valimar77, on 08/29/2008, -12/+62""America, now is not the time for small plans," the 47-year-old Illinois senator told an estimated 84,000 people packed into Invesco Field, a huge football stadium at the base of the Rocky Mountains."
- thelastcivilian, on 08/29/2008, -4/+51"A buffoon in debates without a teleprompter..."
Are you sure you don't mean the Senator from Arizona?
What are his positions on controversial issues like health insurance covering birth control? [he doesn't remember]; How many homes does he own? [he doesn't remember]; Is he an expert on the economy? [he denies saying he wasn't - too bad it was at a major televised function]; Is Al Qaeda in Iran? [they're all the same, aren't they?]; Czechoslovakia? [still exists]; ...and on and on... - tjmb9, on 08/29/2008, -3/+49Did anyone watch MSNBC after the debate and catch Pat Buchanan's response?
He said it was "beautiful" and that it wasn't a liberal speech, but a centrist, uniting one. He said it was the greatest convention speech ever. Coming from Pat Buchanan, that's saying something.
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Pat_Buchanan_LOV ... - woofers07, on 08/29/2008, -8/+52agreed I don't want to have to put Canada stickers on my bag when I leave the country anymore.
- gubbie, on 08/29/2008, -4/+48also that the attacks on McCain were "excessive."
- nikdahl, on 08/29/2008, -3/+45Is he using a speech writer?
Obama's speech was self written. - pintomp3, on 08/29/2008, -1/+43i was actually watching for his reaction. if barack can impress a racist like buchanan, the speech was a hit.
- jshooter1377, on 08/29/2008, -7/+47My Father, who is 61 years old (so he's heard many famous speeches in his time), said this was THE best speech he has ever heard from a presidential candidate.
BTW, he is voting democrat for the first time in his life this November. - sulthernao, on 08/29/2008, -4/+42Pat Buchanan was gushing over it.
- BossKey, on 08/29/2008, -6/+43Supposing McCain is equally good and equally capable, here's why I vote for Obama: Upside potential. Being young and of this era, Obama could set up, lead, and participate in the history of the United States for the next 30-40 years. McCain's most transformative years may well be behind him, and he is not too many years from retirement. Could McCain even complete two terms? What major Reagan-like transformations is he able to drive in his first term? At first, I wasn't necessarily buying the Dem's "more of the same" line, but the more I think about it, the more I think a vote for McCain really is just a holding action, and that's not what I want to see in the economy, the war, etc.
