- lanzemurdok, on 05/13/2008, -4/+41hey guys, i'm trolling. I wanna make comments that include his middle name Hussein, and i also want to call you guys obamabots. I also want to make some stupid comment about he's a racist and he's not really black.
Also, i'm an idiot. - rjwisniewski, on 05/13/2008, -4/+32As a Republican enlisted soldier of the U.S. Army who is voting for Obama I personally think your statement makes you look like an idiot.
- JasonHears, on 05/13/2008, -8/+36Now ask yourself, could you see Hillary or McCain giving a speech like this? Would they care to raise any of these issues, and actually make you feel like it's an issue they really cared about (as opposed to just pandering and campaigning)? Obama has the uncanny ability to not only raise issues that nobody really likes talking about, but framing them in ways that we all can understand, and begin to talk and care about fixing and dealing with in the right way. That alone is one of the main reasons I support him. Especially after 8 years of BS lies and a government that speaks to the American people like we're too stupid to understand anything, and need to trust our government to do everything for us.
- kdawg1012, on 05/13/2008, -12/+36Don't worry about the flag pin. Whether he wears it or not is irrelevant. Patriotism is about what you do with your life and how you serve this great nation. Barack Obama truly understands that.
- HamSandwich, on 05/13/2008, -6/+26OMG, his middle name is Hussein?? Surely, he must be a terrorist! What, he's black too? He must be the walking incarnation of evil!!
Give me a break. As for your "very scary and bumpy ride", what the hell do you call the last 8 years? A picnic? - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -3/+22Your name says it all. Get lost.
- tuholmes, on 05/13/2008, -4/+22I'm sorry, but when did Bush, Cheney, or any of their pals go to fight?
10 Year olds don't need to learn how to fight... They should be enjoying childhood.
Since you're typing on this computer... Where are you stationed? Are you out fighting?
Personally, I'm not, but if someone actually invaded my country I would take up arms to defend it... You can't defend a nation by being half a world away. - redpickle, on 05/13/2008, -4/+22You do realize that WW II was fought under two Democratic presidents correct? And you also do realize, that the "Tyrants" were a huge part of why the Allies prevailed in the war, correct? Or did your senile old self forget a couple of things? Don't you worry though, Obama will get you all the health care you need.
- mmccarthy, on 05/13/2008, -16/+39This speech really needed to be said. Congratulations Senator Obama.
- ironhide, on 05/13/2008, -4/+21If you know nothing about him, it's because you've been willfully ignorant. Some of us know how to read.
- RohanXI, on 05/13/2008, -2/+20I may be wrong...but after looking it up...JROTC is for high school students, and Obama's children ages are under 10 both.
Oh and what leader ever fights anymore. How many generals have led a charge? Just because you aren't fighting, doesn't mean you aren't making a difference. - headzoo, on 05/13/2008, -1/+17Oh my god.. His kids are all of 9 years old. Proof that you're just talking out of your ass, and don't know the first thing about a man you supposedly hate.
Hrm.. What's a good word for someone who's intolerant of people they don't know anything about. Ah, bigot. You're a bigot. - rebotfc, on 05/13/2008, -2/+18Except there have been real documented atrocities carried out by the U.S. military and U.S. privateer contractors.
Exposing the truth is not an attack on troops in general. - dugsirkel, on 05/13/2008, -3/+18So why not learn more about him instead of making uninformed, fear-mongering statements?
- wacomwacoff, on 05/13/2008, -1/+15Which branch of the armed forces are you in?
And why do you want to send 10 year old kids to war? - omnithought, on 05/13/2008, -3/+18I figure, who cares if he wears it? If we're going to base our choice of President over things like a flag pin, then we already have the President we deserve.
- mmccarthy, on 05/13/2008, -9/+24To get MSM to cover this issue properly it need to be dugg up and get this video in YouTubes top 10
- headzoo, on 05/13/2008, -2/+15He's been in public office since 1997. If you don't know anything about him, then that's your fault.
- chromerium, on 05/13/2008, -8/+26Great speech ... and I know he'll follow through with action as he generally does.
But hey! He's wearing a flag pin! Thats new, isn't it? A change of heart? - Eivo, on 05/13/2008, -2/+11Not only did it need to be said, it was a smart speech to give to us in WV. West Virginia prides itself on our contributions to our nation when the time calls. My great grandfather fought in WW1, my grandfather fought in WW2, and 2 of my brothers fought in the current Iraq war. At times, it shames me that I never joined a branch, but I just can't bring myself to support this war. I voted for Obama today.
- Mejari, on 05/13/2008, -1/+11I honestly and proudly salute you, sir/madam.
- malex, on 05/13/2008, -1/+10Do you have a problem with what he said, or is that simply your preconceived opinion, which you're going to stick to regardless of the facts?
- makenshin, on 05/13/2008, -2/+11The only candidates in this election I could see myself voting for were Ron Paul and maybe Obama (this was long ago before I knew anything really about Obama). When I watched Obama's 'A More Perfect Union' speech back in March, I was shocked by his brilliance. I'm not saying he is a genius, but for a politician, he is incredible intelligent and knows what he is doing. Not only can he write and give speeches, but he has his own well researched opinions that actually make sense and are not always aimed at just getting votes (like McCain and Hillary's gas tax free summer), but at doing what is best for America. And Obama's views are based on experience (which he has proven he has more of than Hillary). Point being, I always enjoy Obama's speeches, in which he wins me over more and more each time.
- bmind, on 05/13/2008, -1/+11Senator Obama cosponsored a bill that led to a $1.5 billion increase in veterans' medical care. During the debate on the Fiscal Year 2007 budget, Senator Obama cosponsored measures that would have provided additional funding increases for veterans.
In January 2007, Senator Obama reintroduced the Lane Evans Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act to improve the VA’s planning process to avoid budget shortfalls in the future. The bill requires the VA and the Department of Defense to work together and share data so that we know precisely how many troops will be returning home and entering the VA system. - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -2/+13The word you're looking for, genius, is deigned.
- ColonelJessup, on 05/13/2008, -3/+12Even though I am not an Obama supporter, I fully agree 110% with what he is saying here. I remember actually hearing a speech he gave on C-Span several months ago about veteran care, and I actually got chills up my spine. I do think he really cares about our nation's veterans.
I'm still not voting for him, but I do think he is right on target here. If he does win the presidency, I hope he follows through with this. - fani, on 05/13/2008, -3/+12"moran"
- Mejari, on 05/13/2008, -0/+9I think it would be hilarious if he came out on stage for a speech lugging a giant flag lapel-pin as tall as he is, and prop it up on the podium and just say 'See? According to my opponents, this means I'm the most patriotic!'
- rawg, on 05/13/2008, -4/+12If he didn't wear a flag pin while delivering this speech, the media would have been all over him about it. Ironically, it probably would have ensured more media coverage of this important speech.
In any case, I think Obama's position has always been that wearing a flag pin isn't a measure of your patriotism, not that it's categorically "bad" to wear one. - fmaxwell, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8Yes, you do come home and find more of your rights stripped.
You can no longer board a plane without showing a photo ID.
You are now subject to search without probable cause. You phone can be tapped without a court order or even judicial review.
You can be locked up in prison without access to an attorney because the government claims, without having to show proof, that you are a terrorist. If you are given access to an attorney, the government may monitor federal prison jailhouse conversations between you and your attorney(s), making it impossible for you to openly discuss your case with your attorney.
Religious or political institutions to which you belong can be monitored by the Feds without suspecting criminal activity to assist terror investigations.
The government may search and seize your papers and effects without probable cause to assist terror investigation.
If you are given access to an attorney, the government may monitor federal prison jailhouse conversations between you and your attorney(s).
The government may jail you indefinitely without a speedy (or any) trial, without charging you, and without allowing you to confront witnesses against you.
Obama has come out against these Bush executive order atrocities. But you are obviously more concerned about feeling impotent without your gun,
As to firearms and concealed carry: I believe that the weapons used to mow down students at Columbine and Virginia Tech were concealed as they were carried. That worked out real well, didn't it? I'm just glad that we did not have campuses full of untrained, gun-toting kids all trying to be heroes by shooting at anyone shooting a gun. What was a tragic loss of life would have been far worse. - rjwisniewski, on 05/13/2008, -1/+9Thank you kind sir.
- sublingo, on 05/13/2008, -1/+9Ummm how about you go to his website and read the booklet that has the subtitle Barack Obama's Plan for America. http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/ObamaBlueprintForCh ...
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -3/+11Disdain - a feeling of contempt for someone or something regarded as unworthy or inferior : scorn Deign - to condescend reluctantly and with a strong sense of the affront to one's superiority that is involved
You figure it out smart guy. - Garlik, on 05/13/2008, -4/+14I find it ironic that John McCain is strongly in favor of the war but will not support the Bill. Obama is completely right in opposing the war but supporting the troops.
- fmaxwell, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8You stupid, right-wing, evangelical Christian, bigot!
Why is it that every time I meet a pro-life zealot, it makes me wish that there has been one more abortion? - inactive, on 05/13/2008, -2/+10I think harping on ANY candidate for slipping during a speech is freaking childish.
- headzoo, on 05/13/2008, -0/+8I worry about anyone who considers gun laws a make or break it deal for any candidate. With a hundred other _possibly_ more important issues to worry about, they are worried about their guns first and foremost.
And 75% of the Marines I knew were Republican, and they'd vote Republican no matter what.
- Semper - dinot, on 05/13/2008, -3/+11How can he take action when he's not even President yet? Are you a moron? Do you like little boys? Or do you prefer older men?
- inactive, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7He occasionally sports the flag pin. It's so stupid that it is an issue if he wears one or not.
- fmaxwell, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7McCain "lost his bearings" multiple times on the same issue and his advanced age is an issue. Deal with it. If he can't remember who the Sunnis and Shiites are, then we've got a problem. Experts say occasional memory lapses happen to everyone but that they tend to happen more often as people get older. Alzheimer's also occurs more frequently as people age. If elected President, there is, statistically speaking, a significant chance that McCain could die of natural causes before finishing his term. If elected, McCain would be the oldest US president ever inaugurated.
What's pathetic is your moronic name-calling and unwillingness to debate the issues. What's really pathetic is that you don't understand that liberals are what made this country great. They are the ones that got women and blacks the right to vote and run for office. They got civil rights for blacks, preventing right-wing bigots from treating them like sub-humans. They had the vision to put a man on the moon. They are the true backbone of America. - rjwisniewski, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Thank you.
- fmaxwell, on 05/13/2008, -0/+7I think that most liberals would volunteer to fight our common enemy to the death.
So, where do you live? - lanzemurdok, on 05/13/2008, -4/+13just once i would like jbenson2 to reply. He probably has a wordpad document with all his stupid troll sayings "Hm... let's see which one can i put today? oh this looks good *highlight -copy-paste* i'll just add that as a comment, great job me"
- Plantagenet, on 05/13/2008, -10/+17Obama doesn't need a flag pin to be a patriot.
- treejohn, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6I'm absolutely glad that Obama has never served. Had he, republicans might have sent him off to a moronic war and he might not be here today banging down the doors of the right wing. He's a political soldier, and I'm proud of him for that.
When you demand his children be in uniform, at their ages, - and denounce him as unpatriotic since they aren't- it really makes me pause and wonder how and why Hitler's ideology still exists; even today. - dagamer34, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5Ah, classic sound-biting. For those that don't watch the ENTIRE CNN interview, he said the line "losing our bearings" in reference to other people and this nation as a whole.
People just WANT to pick fights now. - Mejari, on 05/13/2008, -0/+5You and your facts. Don't you know that no matter what you say, they'll still think that Obama's a do-nothing racist America-hating muslim? *sigh* I wish people would listen to facts instead of un-important issues and lies. Praise to you for bringing some facts to the discussion.
- omnithought, on 05/13/2008, -9/+15And here people were trying to smear Obama for flubbing on the number of states we have. Let's see one speech from Bush, Clinton (either of them) or McCain that even approaches this one.
It's time our veterans stopped getting ***** over and it's about time a nominee truly stood up for them. - MoofTheStoof, on 05/13/2008, -4/+9Why don't you listen to the speech and see for yourself?
- Mejari, on 05/13/2008, -0/+6Wow, you'll irrationally associate an American politician with a horrible mass-murderer but you won't spell out '*****'. Shows your moral fortitude, doesn't it?
