- onesam, on 10/13/2008, -22/+129Real policy, addressing real issues. This is how to campaign, and ultimately how to govern. McCain's swift-boating and scaremongering can't compete with this.
- JenniferInMO, on 10/13/2008, -17/+94What a brilliant political strategy - actually do something to help instead of floundering around trying to figure out which promises will get you elected. He's been knocking on doors and talking to people directly, working with his advisers and leaders in the House to make something happen rather than sitting back, watching it fall and blaming others. This is the kind of leadership we need.
- backslashdigg, on 10/13/2008, -18/+89It's nice to see that the plan calls for immediate action, and has the facts when it comes to Obama's tax plan.
- Garmr, on 10/14/2008, -4/+56George Carlin once said: "The rich make a LOT of money, and pay NONE of the taxes; the middle class makes a LITTLE bit of money, and pays ALL of the taxes; and, the poor are just there to scare the ***** out the middle class, and keep them going to those jobs."
- inactive, on 10/13/2008, -13/+63Coincidentally, during Wednesday's debate, Senator McCain will announce a very similar plan.
- Melancholiatic, on 10/13/2008, -43/+93***** yeah, Obama!
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 10/13/2008, -11/+48Maybe it's just me, but that's the first time I actually have seen a plan,
laid out in a way I can understand. Nice. - homercles337, on 10/13/2008, -6/+33Can you believe he still claims that Obama is going to raise taxes on the middle-class?
- uHaveASmallDigg, on 10/14/2008, -11/+36Who really believes that the government can "create" prosperity? His plan might as well include free unicorns for all. If you read this as a pro-McCain comment, you're an idiot.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/14/2008, -2/+27I've been cracking up regarding the earlier news release that McCain was going to announce his "new" economic plan. As usual, first they "leaked" the details of his plan to see how it would fly. McCain's plan sounded exactly like a Bush plan - more tax cuts for the wealthy will solve everything!
McCain's "new" plan was to reduce the tax on Capital Gains and Dividends. Since most of the middle class only owns their stock through a tax deferred 401K, or IRA, this plan didn't do anything for them. It was designed mainly to help the rich (as usual). It did absolutely nothing to create jobs or help the middle class.
After the plan got bad reviews, the McCain camp suddenly announced that he was NOT going to announce a new plan (yet). Obviously, they need to rethink this failed approach.
It will be interesting to see what replacement plan McCain will blurt out during the debate. - quesi, on 10/13/2008, -12/+34the only way to prevent complete collapse of the United States Government, financially, is to cut spending - neither candidate will provide that.
but largesse = votes, good strategy to win this thing
i wonder how the dollar will fare
in February-ish 2009, remember this moment - phenom2k7, on 10/14/2008, -5/+26Holy *****, Joe Biden's name is an anagram for I NEED JOB.
- johnnr2, on 10/13/2008, -2/+22it would be a huge source of revenue (taxes).
- askcherlock, on 10/13/2008, -7/+27Unemployment figures are giving false positive numbers. Obama/Biden recognize this. Those whose benefits have expired simply fall off the statistical charts. Most are still not working. We need unemployment benefits extended now. We are dipping into our retirement monies and those who do will be penalized at tax time. It's a no-win situation. Where do the age 50+ workers go? Thank you for this plan. It is change we need-----now.
- Bagos1, on 10/14/2008, -1/+21I echo the sentiment. Anybody can write or say anything they want....and they do, just to get that almighty vote and get on the gravy train. Biden has been feeding at the trough for 35 years.
This redistribution of wealth is just *****. Any money taken by taxes is a waste. It's money that did not go into savings or investment....instead it goes to a den of thieves. People will never see the benefit of those dollars taken. - dinot, on 10/14/2008, -5/+24During the next debate, I WISH Obama would look McCain in the eyes and say, with a calm and clear voice: What part of "I will not raise taxes for families earning less than $250,000" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?"
- DavidGX, on 10/14/2008, -2/+19"ENGLISH *****, DO YOU SPEAK IT?"
Maybe that would be a bit much.. - Danktolker, on 10/13/2008, -13/+30I didn't see anything about legalizing marijuana. Come on, Obama be cool, man.
- Bagos1, on 10/14/2008, -6/+22Can't wait to get our uniforms. Won't that be so cool.
- Jsoul87, on 10/14/2008, -13/+29McCain's too busy attacking to create proposals like this...
- Shiftyeyedgoat, on 10/14/2008, -1/+17Ok, ok, enough of the insulting partisan banter! Why not put some real meat to this?
I want to see a literal category-by-category retort by the McCain camp -- not to claim Obama is a socialist, or that McCain doesn't care about poor people -- but to see the real process of affecting legislation that is based on actual economic policy. As it stands all we see is one side of the argument; those numbers could very well be arbitrary without some substantial comparison.
I really like seeing this kind of transparency in campaign policy, even if I might not agree with all of it. Let's see more. - KnightWhoSaysNi, on 10/14/2008, -1/+17Because wanting to have a beer with the guy is such a good way to pick a president.
- plumcider, on 10/14/2008, -4/+19I love the common threat from the rich: "Tax me, and I won't create jobs--in fact, you must might lose yours."
Here's my middle class promise: "Break us any more, and we won't buy your product or service. We won't be able to afford it."
Look here, $250,000+ guy, I don't need another job. I just need to stop losing 1/3 of my income to taxes while your accountant finds you another loophole. So you might lose that extra golf vacation--my heart bleeds for you. Unfortunately for you, I'm more worried about feeding my kids on my $50 a week grocery budget. - Spuy767, on 10/14/2008, -8/+23Hmmm, I'm in the middle class. And I don't seem to need rescuing. . . Could it be, that people need to be rescued from situations that they themselves caused? Let's inflate the currency, and harm the entire middle class for the benefit of a few people who will just go on to make the same mistakes over again. All in the interest of buying votes. Outstanding.
- uHaveASmallDigg, on 10/14/2008, -4/+18No, I think like this because of the last few thousand years, where history and common sense show that you can't print your way out of a financial meltdown. ***** hope, "show me the money" as it is said.
- DealCracker, on 10/14/2008, -17/+31I found a few more pieces of the Obama / Biden plan, I think they all apply:
* Additional oversight and governmental ownership of business is needed to prevent free market capitalism that results in the exploitation of workers by greedy and corrupt business owners.
* Immediate replacement of the current class structure of America with a system that manages society for the good of all, resulting in the dissolution of the class structure and its support.
* Elimination of the struggle and continuous conflict between classes with opposing interests. - superboredom, on 04/02/2009, -4/+18So as a young, non-married professional making well below Obama's cap of 250K a year (and with a modest home) I can look forward to what, a $500 tax cut/credit? Big deal. These politicians trot out their plans to help the "middle class" every election, and it seems that they never really have any impact (or are quickly forgotten post-election). If you really want to help me, then cut my taxes by a significant percentage. Allow me to keep more of the money I earn, and allow me to invest it how I (not the bureaucracy) see fit.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -12/+26The next digg headline will be Barack Obama & Joe Biden cure cancer.
- KaivenTor, on 10/14/2008, -9/+21I know I'm going to get dugg down for this, but glancing at the plan, there's some decent stuff, some stuff that will be ineffectual and is only playing to the populace (that whole middle class tax relief is nice, but won't do jack squat for the economy), and some stuff that will probably end up biting the government in the ass in a few years (the last section as well as some of the insurance extensions, well meaning, but can and will easily be taken advantage of [not in the good way]).
I'm going to give this plan a 50/50 shot. It might work, it might backfire, we're just not ultimately sure how it'll play out. Certainly looks good to the poorer struggling sections of the nation, but then again that is what the Democrats do best [/Cynicism].
I'm not going to argue that immediate relief isn't necessary, but overreacting due to panic can cause additional damage if we can't make some longer term fixes. This plan seems to only address the short term economic failures without ultimately addressing the causes of the current market failures.
P.S.: Dear Cult of Obama: Please stop. Seriously, just stop and start thinking for yourselves. I realize he has that rock star / Jesus like aura about him, but there's more here than what most people are seeing. This isn't in support of either candidate, but I keep seeing this mindless trance following of both parties that warrants some dire attention. Education is the enemy of the zealot. - iloveliberals, on 10/14/2008, -3/+14I threw up in my mouth just a little bit.

They have been there all along... - aaronirwin31, on 10/14/2008, -2/+12Food rationing and martial law by the end of the year?
I've seen and heard from people like you my whole life. All my entire days! Every spring I hear about what a scorching summer we are going to have. Every fall I hear about what a dismal and hard winter it's going to be. Every season there's some food crop that's going to skyrocket because of some shortage; one year its coffee, the next its citrus. Every year I fresh crop of lunatics claims to have cracked some religious code that names everything from the anti-Christ to Armageddon. Every month there's a cable show doing an in depth report on the next natural disaster threatening to kill us all. Everyday some news show swears they have found a new product that promises to cause everything from cancer to child abductions. Every war or military spat around the world is an end-time revelation. Every new and unknown leader is kind to the devil himself.
I mean, honestly, it never ends! Every ***** week there's some group of people swearing I better stock up on dry goods and buy a generator! If it's not Y2K then it's the Mayan calendar. Do you guys ever take a rest?
If history has anything to teach, I guess not. I mean think about it for 5 seconds. Martial law? Really? The streets are going to be crawling with troops and tanks, and cops in full riot gear... doing what? What they can't do in Iraq? Actually, ***** Iraq; what they can't do in the city of Baghdad!
I hate to rain on your sky-is-falling parade, but if the current wars in the Middle East should have taught us anything, it's this. Our military cannot control a city of 7 million people! Neither the United States nor the former Soviet Union could militarily control Afghanistan! What makes you think they can control by force 300 million of us at home? I'd like to see that. I'd like to see them try. You've obviously never been to New Orleans in February. I've got news for you, they don't need a hurricane for the city's populace to run the show and dictate to the police what they can and cannot get away with. There is so much lawlessness during Mardi Gras that the cops can't keep up. If the people decide to move, the government can't do much but get out of the way. They aren't as powerful and all-seeing as they would have us believe. If they can't control one city, they certainly can't control the whole country. Anyone who sees military dictatorship as a real threat is completely out of touch with reality.
Doom and gloom! The sky is falling! Run for the hills and keep your powder dry!
Well, you know what? I'm not going to. You come back and you read this at the end of the year. Hell, I'll let you have until the end of next year! But when it doesn't happen, when everything levels out again and we find ourselves in another (extended and deep) recession and nothing worse, I want you to come back here and tell me just how much money you spent on shotguns, wood stoves, MREs, candles and generators - because you were sure the world as we know it was coming to an end. - theutopian, on 10/14/2008, -0/+9Especially if a black guy suggests it.
- shig, on 10/14/2008, -1/+10It would cut over $40billion in taxes annually, and increase tax revenue roughly $30billion, if Marijuana prohibition ended. The Marijuana Policy Project estimated more than that, last year around this time, but I'm more conservative.

Danktolker '08 - inactive, on 10/14/2008, -0/+9McCain't probably wanted to see Obama's plan first. Well see how much he steals - jerk!
- carter69, on 10/14/2008, -2/+11If you do not pay taxes because you don't make enough money and get a Tax cut check, that is not a cut, that is welfare check.
- cinch123, on 10/14/2008, -3/+12I'm in the middle class, and I don't need rescuing either, but if given to opportunity to refinance my 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage at 5.375% to something lower, and not get raped on closing costs and fees, you can bet I'll be in line for it.
- bjzq8, on 10/14/2008, -5/+14Obama/Unicorns 2008!
- Tuto, on 10/14/2008, -17/+26Bu Bu Bu But what about the rich??!!! Obama just doesn't understand how hard it is to figure out can you afford your third sports car or not. Something needs to be done !
Mccain/Palin 08 - jayzfans, on 10/14/2008, -1/+10McXerox makes me puke some times. But it wont work, you cant invent the wheel twice!
- Chakat, on 10/14/2008, -0/+9Both are *****. Why should I vote for someone because they're slightly less of an ***** than the other guy?
- sheeplescareme, on 10/14/2008, -5/+13do you not even have a simple understanding of basic economics? do you have any idea what "inflation" is? how about a sound monetary policy? this "plan" offers no real solutions. it is akin to the recent wall street bailout in that there may be a quick jump for some, a slight bit of hope, but the long-run results for the economy will be disastrous! there is no mention of addressing the core problems that the economy is facing-the federal reserve and the lack of a free market. none. if the obama should pull off an undeserved win, it will be because of the ill-informed public like you. talk to me in a few months kid, that is, if you can still afford your internet connection.
- iloveliberals, on 10/14/2008, -3/+11I was promised a chicken in every pot...don't even try to weasel out of that one, Comrade.
- quesi, on 10/14/2008, -4/+12don't have to be, MindyB... google: Weimar Republic
no govt has ever been able to hyper inflate their way out of such a mess. the more money created out of thin air, the worse it gets
i'm prepared as i can be, i would recommend you read up on the situation, and consider what it would take to make you and your family safe
good day - sheeplescareme, on 10/14/2008, -1/+9this is not even a "rescue plan." all it is a plan stating that he will give away money. most do not pause to think where that money comes from, and therein lies the problem. secondly, he's calling for more credit! lastly, he is so off on capital gains i don't understand how anyone can promote it without laughing, crying, or both.
- Ryan32, on 10/14/2008, -2/+10Call me crazy, but for someone who promises to attack the national deficit... Looks like he plans on spending a ***** of money we don't have.
- TheInformer, on 10/14/2008, -2/+10The best "rescue plan" is the one that involves the least amount of government.
- iloveliberals, on 10/14/2008, -4/+12The money saved by pulling troops out of Iraq has already been spent many times over in the minds of Obama supporters: Universal healthcare, balancing the budget, helping the children, raising unicorns, blah, blah, blah.
- inactive, on 10/14/2008, -1/+9Awesome. Now how exactly is he going to pay for all this? I mean other than the "Increase taxes on the rich" mantra. This is a stealth tax increase people! Tax cuts on 95% of families when a third of families don't pay taxes anyway? No taxes on seniors making up to $50K? $25 billion to create jobs repairing America's roadways? Extend unemployment benefits? He's got a lot of government assistance programs here, but he doesn't list how he's going to pay for it. Sure, increase taxes on businesses! Except he'll force small businesses to start laying off people and passing higher taxes onto the consumer. So much for the tax cuts. People start businesses to make money, nothing altruistic about it, nothing wrong with it. Making money isn't a sin, trying to get yourself and your family ahead isn't a sin. Having the government reach into your pocket and give your profit, your family's money, to someone else because you're a success? That's called robbery. Obama said it himself! He wants to penalize successful people so that "everyone has a chance to succeed". Everyone has that chance. That's what chances are! There are no guarantees in life, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. If everyone is a "winner" and there are no losers, then there's no reason to try and compete. Obama is a thief and liar, and Biden is his partner in crime.
