- Batfishy, on 05/04/2009, -12/+231Bachmann saying anything factual or true is what would really be news.
She's a pathetic excuse for a human being who never fails to astound me every time she opens that mouth. - mediablitz, on 05/04/2009, -7/+179A nice collection of Bachmann idiocy found here:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/200 ...
The woman is an affront to intelligence. - novenator, on 05/04/2009, -7/+149***** crazy Bachmann making untrue statements? shocking!
Seriously MN 6th, what gives? This woman is making you look like the most ignorant part of America. - presidentraygun, on 05/04/2009, -4/+92I saw that diatribe on CSPAN a few weeks ago... (Yes I watch CSPAN you'll be old too one, ya damn kids with your internets)... anywho, I remember my ***** detector hitting 11 on that one. I hope when we reanimate George Washington's corpse for the coming zombie wars, he eats her first.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -8/+94This woman is sooo ***** dumb, and off the wall- it's hard to believe she was elected! She needs to go!
- IllBeBack, on 05/04/2009, -5/+77If she and Ann Coulter ever enter the same room, the universe will be destroyed.
- pnunn, on 05/04/2009, -5/+62Gotta admire how she just keeps getting back out there and running her head into that wall. Sure, she's dangerously uninformed and an embarrassment to her district- if not US politics altogether- but she's got moxy or whatever... um... I guess.
- weeFred, on 05/04/2009, -4/+60I didn't know Barbara Streisand was a congresswoman, thanks for enlightening me.
- ricorurik, on 05/05/2009, -2/+50@gfryesc
you might want to look up these three terms:
Red Herring
Ad Hominem
Straw Man
It will go a long way to helping you not make yourself look so stupid. - Tayloristehsux, on 05/04/2009, -4/+51I am SO SO embarrassed for my home state.
- Suricou, on 05/04/2009, -2/+47This is a nice example of the confirmation bias in action. People who *want* this prayer to be real will accept it without questioning it, even for a moment.
Personally, I recognise that I havn't got the historical knowledge to say if it's real or fabricated - and nor has Bachmann. I do, however, know several other famous historical 'facts' about the Christian foundation of America to be lies often spread around the internet, including founding father quotes. And I know of one regarding how much Washington hated gun control to be without doubt fake, for it references a model of gun not invented at the time. So this means that *even if the prayer is real* - which I very much doubt, but cannot say conclusively - Bachmann may still be criticised for using information from a highly dubious source unless she is willing to cite exactly where this prayer was allegidly documented at the time it was said so that the record may be verified.
Historical rambling aside though, I think this is a case of appealing to the base - her little speech was directed towards a specific audience, the strongly republican and strongly Christian social right. An audience who she knows will, thanks to the confirmation bias, have a hard time accepting even the possibility that the prayer may be fabricated. - jakereilly, on 05/04/2009, -3/+43huh?
- wineinc, on 05/04/2009, -4/+43She must think she can say or do anything because her district has an R+7 partisan voting index. Even though her margin of victory was only 3.6% in her last election, I'm just amazed 187,805 voters in the last election thought she should represent them. Her district's population is 614,935 and contains some areas adjacent to her state's capital. Even if they insist on electing a republican, couldn't they find someone better than this looney among all those people in that locale? You'd think her bizarre remarks would be alienating even for her supporters.
- BikeRidinMan, on 05/04/2009, -3/+39What is it with this bitch? How did she get re-elected?
- DrCyclops, on 05/05/2009, -1/+37The only thing more terrifying than her ignorance is the fact that she was elected in spite of it.
- ScionAltera, on 05/04/2009, -3/+39I think Obama's doing a fine job so far as President. I also think Bill O'Reilly has a very funny show.
(There. Proved you wrong. Your spelling is great though. Your grammar could use a little work.) - inactive, on 05/04/2009, -3/+38So basically, you're saying that because there's absolutely nothing positive to say about Michelle Bachmann, we shouldn't talk about her at all?
- Tayloristehsux, on 05/04/2009, -3/+37Proud of what?
- Zomgondo, on 05/04/2009, -3/+37As a citizen of the part of the country that isn't ***** insane, I am proud to bury you!
- sibbett, on 05/04/2009, -6/+40She seems to be an ignorant conservative, and along with those 90 other voters need to go back to Sunday school.
- davewashere, on 05/05/2009, -2/+35Streisand is an entertainer who probably couldn't get elected as president of her local PTA. Shakespeare was a writer who was in no way involved in American politics and only mentioned the land that would become the U.S. one time in all of his writings. Streisand misquoting Shakespeare should have about the same political influence in modern-day America as Gilbert Gottfried misquoting Cervantes.
Michelle Bachmann is an elected official representing hundreds of thousands of people, and influencing many more within her party and the Christian community. We should be more concerned about what she says, because she is actually a powerful figure in American politics. - inactive, on 05/04/2009, -3/+35Proud that, unlike most politicians, she makes absolutely no effort to conceal the fact that she's a lying, two-timing weasel, I guess.
- razor150, on 05/05/2009, -3/+34Apparently you haven't listened to Conservatives talk about Obama or any of the Clintons. This is mild son!
- weeFred, on 05/05/2009, -2/+33Umm her whole speech was an attack on the president........ an attack which was based on false beliefs and backed up by false quotes. Yes people should maybe be a little more civil while discussing their politics but it's hard to do while you despise everything the person in question stands for. I've seen a lot more hate come from so called conservatives on digg than a lot of other groups.
- scgirl212, on 05/04/2009, -1/+31he's just as crazy as she is.
- chevyorange, on 05/05/2009, -0/+29Once is enough. Yelling irrelevant BS over and over does not make it any more poignant.
- JKount, on 05/04/2009, -1/+30I live in the 2nd district about 20 minutes south of the 6th district, even I have no clue about the people there.
- alphacoder, on 05/04/2009, -4/+31Michelle Bachmaniac needs to get a letter certifying she's a fit mother and can be demonstrated as sane to drive a vehicle. I know it sounds crazy but with her lunatic ravings, I think it really is legitimate.
- weeFred, on 05/05/2009, -2/+29No see, Barbara Streisand is a singer and actress (debatable), she only speaks for herself. Bachmann is an elected member of congress and represents her state. What a singer says about someone doesn't matter, it's their personal opinion, it has the same weight as you and I say about someone. What Bachmann says in congress does matter.
People slammed Bush for the policies he enacted, so far most of the criticism I've heard of Obama has been complete nonsense apart from some of the more mature libertarian voices. - Gloogle, on 05/04/2009, -1/+28Jebus people elected her.
- Insightful, on 05/05/2009, -0/+27Even more. He's a Christian sex counselor who has "ungayed" his clients. Not making this up.
- Gloogle, on 05/04/2009, -3/+28I feel sorry for the unlucky guy who got to marry her.
- Suzilla, on 05/04/2009, -8/+33I doubt seriously that she's "dumb". She's clever enough to get elected, so that says something. Dishonest, craven, beholden to corporatist interests, a legislative cipher? Of course. Dumb? Careful with that term, friend.
The positions and doctrines these people espouse and promote are the true enemies of America, and it's always unwise to underestimate your enemies. - razor150, on 05/04/2009, -1/+25She'll probably be the front runner for the Republican nomination by before 2012.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -3/+27Dear God, I am officially embarrassed to be from the state of Minnesota. *facepalm*
- davewashere, on 05/05/2009, -3/+27After reading her little speech, I have to wonder if she could pass a U.S. citizenship test. She clearly doesn't even understand some of the most basic facts about the founding of our nation and the process that went into making the Constitution.
- teamgwho, on 05/05/2009, -1/+25why do you want our first president to go hungry?
- Gguillorn, on 05/05/2009, -0/+23Can you please stop doing this?
- jitterbits, on 05/05/2009, -0/+22lol, do you even know what fascism is or do the sounds of the syllables just frighten you?
- Batfishy, on 05/04/2009, -6/+28Suz - Jackie's right. The woman IS dumb. As in plain old clueless. Dumb enough to believe what she says, and worse, say these things out loud within ear shot of thinking people.
Dumb. - jitterbits, on 05/05/2009, -0/+22*reelected :(
- weeFred, on 05/05/2009, -2/+24Being one of America's allies, US politics is definitely of my concern, in fact US politics are concern to the world. To suggest that in this age what goes on in the US is none of my concern is short sighted, you only have the look at the recent economic troubles to see what effect US policy has on other countries.
- imaginethat, on 05/04/2009, -3/+24it astounds me that she is a "representative," that she actually represents a constituency. i hope the voters aren't as idiotic as she is, it's completely pathetic. she has no grasp on reality. for god's sake she's rallying with sean hannity a violent people's revolution against obama? are you kidding me?? the woman should be in a mental ward.
- JulyZerg, on 05/05/2009, -0/+21And Spam...
- theredwhyno, on 05/05/2009, -0/+21This was about Michelle Bachmann, and by proxy, the general contempt on the part of religious nationalists for any and all facts that don't support their theocratic agenda, not about Barbara Streisand. The key difference (and the reason your obsession with Streisand's foot-in-mouth problem)? Streisand doesn't occupy a public policy position. That's a fairly crucial detail. She can argue insistently until she's spent of breath that pigs fly, but it's up to you whether you put any shrift in her drivel. i don't, in case i hadn't made that clear.
On the other hand, Bachmann DOES officially hold political power, and furthermore she seems to have the backing of aforementioned religious nationalists whose anti-intellectualism causes them to be extremely gullible. If i had but a nickel for every time i've had to explain to a so-called conservative that the email they received claiming [insert shrill invective here] is naught but complete *****, i'd be a very wealthy person. The answers don't even require a lot of research...
Anyhow...i digress. Disagree with government, with the administration, taxation, etc. all you wish—i certainly have a litany of complaints of my own—but try to understand that the criticism of Bachmann's claims, which have zero basis in reality, are completely warranted. i have nothing against people with conservative viewpoints, however, i have naught but contempt for those who distort history and rely on misinformation to further their goals—and that goes for anyone, on any side of the aisle. If i were a representative of my state, and went on national TV quoting scripture altered to paint Jesus as an arrogant misanthrope, needless to say, people would be upset. That's precisely how i feel about Bachmann's gross distortions of history. - temujin2012, on 05/04/2009, -3/+23As a citizen of MN in general, I'm incredibly ashamed of her. I'd be raising hell if she represented my district. (5th)
- Suzilla, on 05/04/2009, -5/+25The problem with political discourse in this country is that we no longer know how to be civil. Calling her "dumb" falls under that rubrik, and I don't care if you call yourself a progressive or a conservative or non-partisan or swiss cheese. Newt Gingrich and Lee Atwater honed and perfected this sort of uncivil, dehumanizing, impolite manner of political urination and it has done this nation a world of hurt.
It's time to get back to being civil, to understanding why the used to call it "civics" in school. We need to be able to disagree agreeably. I may (and, in fact, do) disagree with Bachman on just about everything. But I don't have to call her names to get the point across that what she's saying and the ideas she advocates 1) aren't American, and 2) aren't even her own -- she's merely adopted them.
As for referring to you as "friend" -- I prefer that to "*****" or "*****-wit". Don't you? - skunks, on 05/05/2009, -0/+19Cool, you gave me the opportunity to dig you down twice.
- seltaeb4, on 05/04/2009, -4/+23I bet there are reporters whose sole beat is Michelle Bachmann, just in order to keep up with all the stupid stuff she says daily.
- psyner, on 05/05/2009, -3/+22Funny how you don't find this stuff on Drudge Report.
