- kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -3/+60Subpoenas don't mean ***** when "I don't remember." is an acceptable answer, e.g. Gonzales.
- jimbecile, on 10/11/2007, -7/+64how long before the 14yo wingers pop in to explain how Clinton did it first/is to blame?
- EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -5/+53Nah. In this case, Clinton actually had his staffers testify, despite executive privilege. So the 'wingers' will most likely just pretend that didn't happen and cry about executive privilege instead, as if Congress is overstepping its bounds. I mean, how can Bush and Cheney continue to screw over the country if everything they're told in private, like how the WMD claims were false, are exposed to public scrutiny?
And for the older wingers who show up, executive privilege ends when Congress is conducting a criminal investigation. And it's already clear that Goodling and Doan have broken the law. So suck it up. You've got no leg to stand on. Let the truth come out. If the administration is innocent, they'll have nothing to worry about. - Matt73, on 10/11/2007, -13/+49Can we please stop adding 'BREAKING' to all the headlines?!
- R34C7, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34Wait a minute, you mean there are checks AND balances...
Blasphemy! - venir, on 10/11/2007, -5/+33Too bad the Whitehouse is going to claim executive priveledge regarding the conversations that they are inquiring about. It is so blatantly obvious they are trying to cover this thing up that it makes me sick. What a bunch of crooks.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+27Subpoena every White House employee. Their top staff operates like Nazi conspirators but were hired as public servants to support and uphold the constitution by the American people.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -3/+23A) Nobody knows if laws were broken. The point of an investigation (and subpoenas) is to determine whether laws were broken or not.
B) Who said thinkprogress was a News organization? It's a blog (but not at all spam - you might want to watch where you admit to abusing the bury system)
In this case, thinkprogress is in fact providing news to me that otherwise would not be available, and in an extremely timely fashion. - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21"***** hearings"
I suggest you read the Constitution, specifically the section dealing with checks and balances. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20FINALLY a subpoena is actually issued, rather than authorized. I've been watching all these hearings on c-span, Doan made a very poor showing for herself this morning. I'm pretty sure Miers has some juicy information, if Democrats find some way to make her share it.
- fancypantscz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Hopefully one of these two can remember the conversations they had with their bosses.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -1/+15Typical wingnut dogma: I can lie blatantly, and its okay because it's my opinion!
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12They impeached Clinton for lying under oath. Bush wouldn't testify under oath, after 9-11. Before you scream conspiracy theorist, I am merely bringing up a fact. I am not trying to put weight behind that idea. I am not a democrat, nor do I like many of Clinton's decisions. I am just sick of the bbbb, but Clinton response. The partisan dichotomy is stupid and so are those who participate. Anyone opposed to investigating our government for any wrongdoing is a ***** Nazi. These people aren't your buddy or your favorite footbal team. They are our employees and should be kept under control.
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Funny, James Spaza...
You haven't seemed to have dugg anything, member since 06/14/07(even though it's 06/13). It's great that you have seen so many articles, from thinkprogress, in the one day you've been a member. Bravo.
@Earl
Funny, as well. My complexion seems fine, being close to thirty, and all.
***** shills. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Wrong again. The digg up/digg down system for comments is an opinion. The bury system for submissions is a way to address abuse (such as legitimate spam). Since you are using it to express an opinion, you are by definition abusing the system.
Speaking of definitions:
Spam: To indiscriminately send unsolicited, unwanted, irrelevant, or inappropriate messages, especially commercial advertising in mass quantities
In other words your "opinion" is stupid.
This particular story is not available to me except on thinkprogress- its not on CNN or MSNBC's websites, and even if it was it would not be as up-to-the-minute as thinkprogress at this point. - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10No, Charlotte. A fishing expedition is when you don't know what they did and you're hoping to find out. In this case, everyone knows what they did. The only problem has been getting them to admit it on the record. So once they're under subpoena, they'll either need to tell the truth or face the consequences. And then it gets interesting.
And for the record, "I don't remember" is perjury -- if it can be shown that you do, in fact, remember. In Gonzales' case, he testified that he didn't remember both before and after he recounted his version of events to Monica Goodling. And that, btw, was also obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Gonzales went for the trifecta of "things you don't do when testifying."
It's as if he never went to law school. Or maybe he did, but he just doesn't remember.
@polygone, there was a JimSpaza that I think I'd blocked for the sheer volume of dumb comments. Maybe he just went with James this time. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Clinton was acquitted on the perjury charge. Not only will Bush never testify under oath, he will not let any of his cabinet testify under oath.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11"He spent $40 mil investigating crooked land deals, illegal firings, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, sexual assault, and perjury."
...all of which resulted in zero convictions. Great use of our tax dollars there. - Drexus, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Hopefully finger pointing will be controlled in this case. It's about time something like this happened.
- swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10You said this story is "spam." The dictionary definition of "spam" contradicts your statement. Either you don't know what "spam" means, or you were lying.
FYI I never said "everyones opinion is wrong," I just said your opinion is, and then backed up my statement with facts that show why your opinion is wrong. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7didn't you even notice the people right at the top of the thread that predicted the wingnuts would come out to blame this on clinton? Are you a ***** robot?
Lets ask if they broke any laws regardless of what clinton did. Jesus ***** christ... - Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9I'm neither a Republican or Democrat. I'd love to see Bill Clinton strung up by his balls for several decisions he made while president (transfer of rocket tech to China tops my list). That said, turning this into yet another Clinton-bashing fest is ignoring the main issue: the Bush administration is essentially a meaner, stupider (mainly due to the Iraq war, the rationale for which makes even Billy's sad attempts at nation-building look good in comparison) and more secretive version of the Clinton administration. Sadly, I rather doubt anyone we replace Bush/Cheney with will be any better...that's modern politics for you; Kennedy and Nixon inspired a whole generation of politicians...corruption is one thing (and to be expected in politics), reckless corruption is another.
- SickMonkey, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8"SOP from the dems trying to create a scandal out of nothing."
Since you're so knowledgeable on the subject, please remind me again how much Kenneth Starr spent in his effort to impeach Clinton for lying about a blow-job?
Here's a Hint: it's more than 40 million dollars. - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Interestingly enough, Miers has been linked to the damage control after Democrats began questioning the firings

You need to change your comment view preferences from "Sort by most diggs" to "Sort by date". - swrostmore, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8special preview of Clinton's testimony about the 93 Attorneys:
"They worked for Bush Sr. I fired them."
Case closed. - TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8BREAKING: A lot of people who see anything from thinkprogress.org will mark it inaccurate.
- polyGone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I remember him. :) I was just trying to make a point, as are you.
- mtownand1, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6I agree. it was on digg for 8 hours and 42 minutes before making it to the front page, no longer breaking.
- noctum17, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Yeah, the breaking headline on this is lame. This story ran on CNN.Com about 9 hours ago.

BREAKING: Wind - EntropyMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2BREAKING: America.
- wakananda, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You're arguing with a yappy bulldog. This is why people think these guys are boiler-room shills being paid five cents a post - because they have no regard for fact, or logic; they just howl at the moon.
- diggbot7, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2This is great news. Maybe the Democrats won't ***** this up after all.
- UnstableMind, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Although I'm completely against this ***** 2 party system, it won't go away, both parties have too much money and too many people in important places, government, media, and otherwise. That said, if the Dem's want to maintain or take over in '08 (since the average american only knows about 2 parties and the media only covers the 2 parties) they're going to have to deliver on something, cause as it stands right now, they haven't done a damn thing! All I see is more corrupt ***** just with a - D after their names instead of a - R.

- griffin7, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0For those of you who like me are hoping this will help to get to the bottom of this dirty mess, do not get too optimistic.
The relevant and material documentary evidence can easily be destroyed, or permanently erased.
The verbal testimony of the personnel in question is also unlikely to result in any substantive admission of any wrong doing. In other words, they either won't talk, or they will lie.
Maybe if they give personnel immunity from prosecution, something helpful will be forthcoming, but I doubt it.
It is just one big messed-up can of worms. It all needs to be discarded as the trash that it is. Oh, and the other side, that is pretending to investigate this, is just as bad. Have you ever heard of a dog and pony show. - villium, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5More dog and pony show from the Dem's. 20 bux sais they accomplish nothing and have no intention on righting the wrongs of this criminal administration.
Ron Paul 2008! - rejoined, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7I 'BRAKE' for 'BREAKING'.
- kolobcreek, on 10/11/2007, -8/+6Lets face it. They only chance they have on charging, impeaching, slandering anyone is to catch them in lie under oath.
- Ibanezfoo, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Whoa! A capitalized "breaking." That must mean the guy who submitted it is a journalist who was actually there and sent his info straight to the interweb. Oh wait, you mean he just linked to someone else who posted it on another website? Oh...
- geekee, on 10/11/2007, -9/+4Can't we get the story from a reputable source instead of some left-wing blog? Oh wait, this is Digg. What was I thinking?
- bonhoeffer, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2"how much Kenneth Starr spent in his effort to impeach Clinton for lying about a blow-job?"
$0.00
He spent $40 mil investigating crooked land deals, illegal firings, obstruction of justice, abuse of power, sexual assault, and perjury. Dollars well spent to pin that fanny-pinchin' hayseed's hide to the wall. -
