- huntermaclean, on 05/20/2008, -12/+11Agreed. Old news.
- chemic34, on 05/20/2008, -96/+9ERAAAA that sucks! ERAAA!
- moolaismyfriend, on 05/20/2008, -105/+107I hope he can recover. Kennedy has always been a strong force in the senate working for the middle class, and one of the strongest supporters of education and allowing easy access to cheap financing for higher education. That is one of the reasons he has been attacked by the uneducated right wing of our society.
- IAmLegend24, on 05/20/2008, -36/+34Ted Kennedy the drunk that murdered Mary Jo Kopechne.
- taradisiac, on 05/20/2008, -23/+53That's funny, considering he's responsible for NCLB, which you liberals hate and blame Bush for.
- macweirdo42, on 05/20/2008, -9/+25Bush is partly to blame though... He was a huge supporter of the bill, and still regards it as one of his greatest accomplishments as president. Whatever... Politicians know nothing about education.
- hierophantus, on 05/20/2008, -6/+2That Bush likes to take credit for.
- doti, on 05/21/2008, -3/+52 things. Alot of senators voted for NCLB assuming the administration would commit to fully funding it. they never did, that's all Bush's fault. NCLB was Laura's baby (as much as health care was Hillary's baby). It was based of a Houston program that had huge results, that were later determined to be completely fraudulent.
There are many aspects of NCLB that are great, and needed. But without fully funding it, all it does is add meaning less overhead for teachers, and skews curriculum towards standardized tests.
Get well senator, there is much we need you for!
- digitronix, on 05/20/2008, -26/+15Perhaps you're "educated" ass would love to know what it is like living in a bankrupt country some day.
- SlaunchaMan, on 05/20/2008, -4/+24You're clearly not educated if you can't use "your" correctly.
- JDove6, on 05/21/2008, -1/+7Hasn't Bush gotten us there?
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 05/20/2008, -9/+18I've seen what "support" of education has done. We "support" education a lot in California too. Now the cost doubles every decade (population doesn't) and the results don't get any better.
- uncertain, on 05/20/2008, -16/+5"uneducated right wing" I believe is an oxymoron.
- foofightrs777, on 05/20/2008, -2/+7I'd say its redundant for the vast for majority.
- ThugThrasher, on 05/20/2008, -8/+6Well, you certainly can't say 'uneducated left wing' or 'uneducated liberals' because the higher degree someone has, the more likely they are to be liberal. College graduates tend to be more liberal than high school grads. Those with a Master's degree tend to be more liberal than those with bachelor's. Those with a doctorate tend to be the most liberal of all.
Yes, there are many other factors and there are definitely some very educated conservatives, but the facts remain that most highly educated people in our country are liberal.- NonLeftistDiggr, on 05/21/2008, -5/+4That makes sense, the more degrees you get, the longer you are exposed to college course and campus brain washing. Luckily I only had to do 3 or 4 GE classes in the liberal arts wing, but that was bad enough.
- foofightrs777, on 05/21/2008, -2/+5Yes, knowledge is your enemy. Actually seeing the effects of government programs, good and bad, is also bad for you. It's so so much much better and easier to live in knee-jerk ignorant reactionary land.
And what about doctors and engineers who also are generally rather liberal? Last time I checked "brain washing" isn't part of their curriculum. Biology and fluid mechanics, respectively, might be though. - Pixelante, on 05/21/2008, -0/+0Correction: most educated people who haven't managed to get a real job outside academia are liberals. A good lot of professionals are not.
- ThugThrasher, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Pixelante:
Check those survey results again. Check the last GSS, for example. It's not just academics. There's a huge connection between 'highest level of education received' and the political questions...as level of education increases, people tend to answer the political questions in a manner indicating they are more liberal.
- NikoKun, on 05/20/2008, -8/+3He should try Cannabis. I heard about this guy in Canada who makes an extract from it, that has been known to cure several kinds of cancers.
Yeah... the medical community tends to ignore it, but you can't argue with results, And there is plenty.- foofightrs777, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3I think he has a bigger problem: age.
:(- Digitalfilm43, on 05/21/2008, -2/+1Actually, due to all the alcohol, he should be well preserved.
- foofightrs777, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3I think he has a bigger problem: age.
- ffonsok, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1and there *are* plenty
- vasconcj, on 05/20/2008, -68/+7Is this a return of the (in)famous Kennedy Curse? Lets hope not...

http://digg.com/people/Ted_Kennedy_has_a_Brain_Tum ...- CactusChef, on 05/20/2008, -1/+19Many people get cancer. I don't understand why that when a Kennedy gets cancer that it should be attributed to the Kennedy Curse.
- SeaMowse, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6Ted Kennedy's son, Ted Kennedy Jr., lost his leg to cancer when he was a boy - 30 years ago. A type of bone cancer. Attribute it to the Kennedy curse?

- TomJohn, on 05/21/2008, -0/+3The "Kennedy Curse" is flat-out hogwash. Any family that produces that many offspring will see just as many of 'em die young-ish as the Kennedys have. Especially if adventurous lifestyles are factored in. Do the math.
- diggrnumber1, on 05/21/2008, -0/+2the kennedy curse ensures that he will not die. a kennedy can't die of natural causes. they have to be assasinated or die in a fiery plane crash or something. and it has to be really dramatic.

- RHANN, on 05/20/2008, -12/+2What saddens me is it is your constitutional right to spew venom. You must be a republican who is a church goer. You are a hateful pathetic person who has not been anointed God. What a cruel stupid comment. My grandmother always said, "wish bad on others and it's behind your door waiting for you"!

- Tomchei, on 05/21/2008, -3/+4I don't wish he or his family harm either.
Karma is a bitch though and hopefully a real public servant will step up and become a great senator rather than some elitist that just sat and spent money and halted progress.

- mal1964, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1There were early reports that Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., might have been on the plane, since he was campaigning in Minnesota for Wellstone. That rumor was quickly dispelled, and Kennedy later appeared with Dayton to pay tribute to Wellstone

- johnnyfistfight, on 05/20/2008, -8/+8The tumor is going to do what you ***** morons in Massachusetts were too stupid to do. To get this embarrassment of a man to the Kennedy legacy out of office forever. His name shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as John and Bobby.

I didn't think the scarecrow had a brain.

BTW Macrophage.... I'MZ IN UR STATE CANZERING UR OLD SENATOR!

- JustinCase18, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1...and if history is any indication, you'll only replace him with another Kennedy. The DNC might be screaming for change, but I think any gambler would be foolish to bet against his successor NOT being a Kennedy.

- Ruler4you, on 05/20/2008, -165/+110You know, when a conservative has a disease or dies the liberal blogs can't wait until the body is cold before slandering them. Charlton Heston, Ronald Reagan et al. But pantie wastes like John from Cape of Cod are alright with the double standard.
While I'm tempted to repeat (and mean) ALL of the same insensitive remarks made by the left when men of principle have passed on, or actually showed up at the grave side service and protested,I reserve the right to make those comments at my discretion for these men of no principle, like teddy -I'll go get help, I can't swim drunk-kennedy

- Hetman, on 05/20/2008, -10/+36I agree there is a double standard. Personally I think Charlton Heston was the an amazing american. Ronald Regean not so much but I do feel for the disease he had to deal with. There should be an exception to your rule though. When bigots like Farwell die we should not praise them.

- Pillage, on 05/20/2008, -8/+5This comment is the reason I stopped short of making the easy shots at Kennedy. Just like I do when he is up for re-election, I won't vote for him on Digg, because that's the greatest insult of all.
- hierophantus, on 05/20/2008, -4/+1"I won't vote for him on Digg, because that's the greatest insult of all."
No one who could make such a statement has the power to insult anyone under any circumstance. For future reference: insults that have any impact whatsoever tend to take place in the real world. At a minimum, they should be something the object of the insult has any chance of ever noticing in his/her life.
- hierophantus, on 05/20/2008, -4/+1"I won't vote for him on Digg, because that's the greatest insult of all."
- hierophantus, on 05/20/2008, -7/+16I said it when Limbaugh went deaf and when Reagan died, and I'll say it now: turning tragedy into an occasion for "slander," as you call it, is ***** for either side.
Even worse is piously pretending to call out the other side for doing it while indulging in it yourself. ***** off.- Ruler4you, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1What goes around comes around. Get used to it. You made the rules.
- Ratteler, on 05/20/2008, -1/+22Yeah. I don't agree with most of what you said, but I dugg you up any way because you are right on one thing. There is a double standard. The fact is the republicans and democrats have been trading off on ***** us over for the past 60 years.
Kennedy's most recent "***** you" to America was shooting down a huge wind farm off his precious cape cause that's where his rich bastard friends sail their yachts. I can't imagine a more twisted act self indulgence.
But lets be fair about it. They weren't evil because they were republicans or democrats. They were evil because they were politicians.
"The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."-William Shakespeare
So let it be with all the Caesar's. - JesseOnDigg, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1there's a big difference between arbitrary or unjustly discriminatory 'double standards' and other kinds of categorical differential treatment. strictly speaking, a double standard is 'any code or set of principles containing different provisions for one group of people than for another'. you're obviously talking about the kind of double standard that most people are talking about when they invoke the term 'double-standard' - the bad kind.
considering two categories of people to be of different moral status for reasons that are unprincipled or morally irrelevant is a ***** thing to do.
but what's wrong with this conditional?: "IF something really bad happens to a good public figure, THEN it is inappropriate to slander him or her. IF something really bad happens to a bad public figure, THEN it is appropriate to slander him or her in certain ways under certain circumstances."
there's nothing hypocritical about those conditionals. the people who happen to populate each function (kennedy, jerry falwell) happen to change, but the functions are static and not at all unfairly discriminatory. in any case, there is no bad double standard here.

Don't get me wrong though, it's certainly a grim diagnosis.- Phoetality, on 05/20/2008, -0/+3First off, to qualify this opinion, I've just finished final exams in a BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences degree...
A malignant brain tumour (yeah I'm british) will be very hard to treat. The easiest way I can describe it is to take form a fist and place it in your other hand. Thats like a benign tumour. Its contained, and can be treatable. A malignant on the other hand, well thats more like your fingers entertwined with the fingers of your other hand.
Simply put, surgery can't be an option as it'll be mixed in with the other healthy brain tissue. Chemo and radiotherapy are the only options and unfortunately, at his age and state of health, I would say his prognosis is poor. Maybe even less than half a year. The way that brain tumours can shut down body systems means its probably the most undignified cancer to get. I really feel for the Kennedy family.
Lets all pray for a miracle.

- socketman, on 05/21/2008, -1/+1Yeah I think they kind of do. JFK got assassinated for the same stuff everyone is bitching about now. Remember his role in Vietnam?
- crombenevolant, on 05/20/2008, -27/+18Ain't karma a bitch..... Apparently leaving a young woman to die does come back around.
- lik3n, on 05/20/2008, -3/+5So true.
- andergriff, on 05/20/2008, -3/+5Too bad it didn't come back around a LOT sooner.
- brezhoneg, on 05/20/2008, -68/+35I am extremely surprised his brain is giving any sign of activity just now. This hasn't happened for the last 30 years at least.
The odds he would have passed away because of liver problems were much higher.
BTW, regarding what has been said about Charlton Heston just recently when he died, for the sake of fairness, we are entitled to spit as much as we want on Kennedy.- RHANN, on 05/20/2008, -7/+7GROW UP. Are you three? I think all deaths are tragic and Kennedy has been a champion even for a nut case like you, though you don't deserve it. I just spit on you but since you are so ignorant it is a waste.
- brezhoneg, on 05/21/2008, -3/+2If you spent 2 seconds reading what you write, you would realize your vague humanist ideas don't stand a chance against the real world.
All deaths are tragic ? You got to be kidding me. Think again.
Kennedy has been a champion even for a nut case like me ? Hell no, his goal was to create a socialist paradise, and let me share a secret with you, immigrants don't come to America with the hope of finding a socialist country.

- MaxwellMoss, on 05/20/2008, -1/+6No, you have no right to do such a thing and not get called on it. I am a conservative as well or maybe I should say I am a conservative and you are just a dick. Grow up.

- Elise1984, on 05/20/2008, -27/+8I feel sorry for the man... but seriously, who cares?
He is just another fat loudmouthed retarded socialist??!!
I realize, as a human, his predicament is sad, and I really feel for his family... but... the world will be better off without him.- catachip, on 05/20/2008, -8/+7You made a typo. "The world will be better off without you."
There. Fixed it for you.
Douchebag.- Elise1984, on 05/20/2008, -3/+2That wasn't very nice.
- jetx29, on 05/20/2008, -0/+2Hear hear! What's so appealing about spewing hate for someone who's died or been diagnosed with a serious illness. And no (in reply to other peoples' excuses)...someone else being a douche bag to you in the past doesn't give you license to do the same, it just makes you every bit the idiot they were being. Maybe you feel the entitlement, but it doesn't make you any more worth civilized society's time.
- Elise1984, on 05/20/2008, -1/+1True jet, fine... you're right, and although I don't agree with Congressman Kennedy's views, he is still my authority and I should respect him... Its kind of hard to do with him though. I can respect Obama, Hillary even... but Kennedy, with his insane Spanish speech almost makes him laughable
Anyways... I will try to focus on the good that he's done in the past, not the insanity that he's committed in the name of old age in the recent past. - jetx29, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Thank you for the civility. :-) It's always appreciated in one of these types of threads, am I right?
- socketman, on 05/21/2008, -0/+1Aww don't backtrack, Kennedy is an asshat, and all this will do is benefit the American people.
There is some sense of civility, but at the same time is is a very polarizing public figure, and this is a public forum. It isn't like you're writing a letter to his family telling them how the world is better off without him.
I mean are you kidding me? I don't even want to know what kind of praise and "uncivilized" comments we'd see if Bush was diagnosed with the same thing.

- MagikPoo, on 05/20/2008, -0/+1Sad, i know, but funny non-the-less.
- pianonotes1010, on 05/20/2008, -8/+4How many more are there before I can finally hear about Marlyn Monroe?
