- technoredneck, on 12/18/2007, -0/+107We won. At least for now. Here's to hoping Dodd will filibuster any other bills that sneak in retroactive immunity.
- lhbaker, on 12/18/2007, -0/+89Dodd's speach blew my mind. Bush is probably still having it translated into faux-Texan.
- Zlorp, on 12/18/2007, -1/+43so there IS someone still in washington who actually gives a ***** about the people they represent. awesome.
- Ouze, on 12/18/2007, -1/+43wtf does wesley clark have to do with this
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -0/+41As I've said before, the "Network you can trust" is a fraud. Keep fighting the good fight and don't relent on this issue. If we allow the President to get away with his crimes and crippling of our Constitution, America will NEVER be the same!
- consonance, on 12/18/2007, -0/+36Reid was later heard telling Dodd, "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"
- MikeFallopian, on 12/18/2007, -0/+23Good for Dodd. Immunity is rarely if ever a good thing.
- inactive, on 12/18/2007, -1/+22Finally, democrats are doing the job they had been hired to do.
- there, on 12/18/2007, -0/+19 There are politicians left that aren't such cowards they would reduce America to a padded prison cell? There are politicians left that realize they aren't Kings and Gods and are actually supposed to be servants of the people and the law?
My hats off to Dodd. A true freedom lover. - darkhand, on 12/18/2007, -0/+18Congratulations to Dodd and his bi-partisan supporters. Even a temporary stay on this bill will greatly hinder the immunity clause and is a major victory for the liberties of all the American people, including the ones who will complain in this thread about having freedoms like this. :) Good job!
- Falc2, on 12/18/2007, -3/+20Someone Really Likes Their SHIFT Key.
- tillerman00, on 12/18/2007, -1/+15Dodd's the man of the hour on this one.
- torifile, on 12/18/2007, -5/+19Christ. Quit with the Ron Paul ***** in every political thread. Ron Paul has nothing to do with this. He's not even a ***** senator. I get that he's got support. Fine. But he's not involved with this submission in anyway.
- TeacherOfHeroes, on 12/18/2007, -0/+13'For now' might be a very short time indeed... remember, next year is only two weeks away
- thaboosh, on 12/18/2007, -2/+15Hope more candidates (and dems) now get behind him to kill it for good.
- DjOverEZ, on 12/18/2007, -2/+15"wtf does wesley clark have to do with this"
He's just awesome, that's all. - SRSco, on 12/18/2007, -1/+13Except everything you said was wrong.
When you submit articles digg looks for all images on the submitted link and asks if you want to include one as a thumbnail. Lazy submitters don't care to select "NO IMAGE" and so irrelevant images may appear as thumbnails. Has nothing to do with spamming books.
You're also an idiot for saying "FTW". Like THAT'S not getting old. - YogiWanKenobi, on 12/18/2007, -0/+12What's that spinning noise? Oh, must be Faux "News" and Shill O'Reilly preparing a Fair & Balanced (TM) set of Talking Points (TM) to inform their viewership about the heinous seditious activity in Congress today.
- l00s3r, on 12/18/2007, -0/+11The fact that Qwest's legal team advised that the warrantless wiretaps were illegal does not bode well for the other companies.
The thing I want to know is can I use the illegal wiretaps to get out of my Cell contract? - Takteek, on 12/18/2007, -1/+12I haven't really been following this story.. do you have a link where I could read this speech? Thanks.
- lazyfisherman, on 12/18/2007, -1/+10Chris Dodd = HUGE AMERICAN SUPER-SIZE BALLS
- cactus476, on 12/18/2007, -0/+9Not just retroactive, they should never be given immunity.
- darkhand, on 12/18/2007, -1/+10This one is. I had the discussion on CSPAN on in the background at work all day (hey, I'm in telecom so it's work related!:) ), and several Democrats actually fought him. It's more of a money issue, not a party issue... He had allies and opponents from both sides. Kudos to Dodd for standing up to his party for what's right.
- spurtle, on 12/18/2007, -2/+10The article from the New York Times proclaiming that the Telcos won had taken up a good amount of real estate on the front page of their website this afternoon. Now that the issue has been tabled for next year, the only trace of the story is an Associated Press blurb that you have to a search for on the site. Liberal Media my ass. Traitors, the entire lot of them.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8It's like a constant threat that the enemy constantly losing may eventually get their way, and seal their victory forever.
- PHiZ187, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9Yeah, he's from Connecticut, not Texas...
- darkciti2, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8Awesome! I called Chris Dodd's office this afternoon to tell his staff (to tell him) that I approve of him holding the fort and fighting the good fight.
It's nice to see that contacting Senators and Congressmen does work !!! (it just takes some time)
Also, I couldn't get through to Feingolds office for some reason...
Kudos to Dodd, Feingold and Kennedy! Also, thanks to Reid for finally stepping up and growing a pair - "Use these newly found balls wisely Senator Reid - they are the only two you will ever own" ;)
Now if we could just get Nancy Pelosi to put her big girl panties on... - numb, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8Or it might be the requisite amount of time for people to stop paying attention.
- darkciti2, on 12/18/2007, -0/+8BROKE: REID PULLING TELECOM BILL
just doesn't have the same ring to it - markwilcox, on 12/18/2007, -1/+9You can't put Breaking in digg titles because they have to be voted up. By the time theyre on the front page they're no longer "BREAKING"
- pintomp3, on 12/18/2007, -1/+8thank dodd.
- flossdaily, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7Your logic is flawed.
You are starting from an assumption that Republicans are inherently reasonable, and that failure to get support from the minimum number of them is evidence that the bill is unreasonable.
A proper analysis would have you analyzing the bill on its merits and then deciding if reasonable or not.
Use that brain of yours. Become an informed citizen instead of a sheep. - DSGalvin, on 12/18/2007, -0/+7I can't believe that Dodd and a spare few are the only ones who stood against this...
...well, maybe I can believe it. :/ - nugx, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6Thank you Chris Dodd! True American Patriot. Hopefully we can continue to rally support AGAINST Telecom Immunity! These corrupt companies must be held accountable for their crimes against the American public. Call your Senators and tell them that you, their constituent, will NOT stand for Telecom Immunity!
- lhbaker, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6http://thinkprogress.org/2007/12/17/dodd-fisa/
http://feingold.senate.gov/~feingold/statements/07 ... - circleback2, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6Thank you Senator Dodd for standing up for the people and fighting the mechanizations of corporate dominance and control of our government.
- Totalchaos02, on 12/18/2007, -0/+6Yes more Christian Conservatives for change!
- wendelgee2, on 12/18/2007, -0/+5Dude, name names. Who were the democrats fighting him? Because, we'll need to know who to pressure in February when this issue comes up again.
- PHiZ187, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5We need to put an end to this Replublican talking point that any specific measures are needed to update FISA to deal with "new technologies." The CALEA act mandates that all telecommunication providers build wiretapping capability into their networks:

It has been the law since 1994 - Irrelevant1, on 12/18/2007, -2/+6***** YES, GO AMERICA.
-love, canada. - MrTito, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Wow... Good news out of Washington? Sure this isn't from The Onion...?
- cybersaur, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4The version the House already passed does NOT grant telecom immunity. Pelosi seems to have bigger cajones than Reid.
- theelectricafro, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5It is only a victory if the people who were going to receive said immunity are prosecuted for their crimes.
- smacksaw, on 12/18/2007, -2/+6#1. Democrat. Singular, not plural.
#2. Elected, not hired. It's the ones that are "hired" by special interests who are the problem. - TeacherOfHeroes, on 12/18/2007, -0/+4Nah, anymore thats more like two *days* :(
- fadeout, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/12/17/terrorist.s ...
Give it a rest, drama queen. - spurtle, on 12/18/2007, -1/+5The complicit nature of the media. Here's a liberal rag that is a supposed bane to the president, prematurely declares victory for the telecoms and the administration, and when that victory is snatched away, not a single peep. Nothing on the front page. Nothing in the Politics section. Nothing in the US section. Not even in the News From AP columns of any section. You would think that they would jump at news like this. But nothing.
- smacksaw, on 12/18/2007, -2/+6What did you expect him to do, declare himself a Senator and show up or something?
It's amazing when someone's hate of Ron Paul is so strong that it defies reality. Great job. - inactive, on 12/18/2007, -4/+7That would be a big change - from Ron Paul's ideas, which are really big, to your balls... which are, well...
- morel42, on 12/18/2007, -4/+7And Cnn.com doesn't mention Dodd in any way shape or form.. ***** Traitors..
