- bitteroldcoot, on 10/12/2007, -48/+124Is bush guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors?
Probably.
On the other hand McKinney is just a crazed attention whore, more interested in self promotion that anything of substance. - celopes, on 10/12/2007, -11/+78Hear hear, Bitteroldcoot...
But, keep in mind, what politician isn't a crazed attention whore??
They all are. - otheruser, on 10/12/2007, -38/+101"The legislation has no chance of passing and serves as a symbolic parting shot not only at Bush but also at Democratic leaders. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has made clear that she will not entertain proposals to sanction Bush and has warned the liberal wing of her party against making political hay of impeachment."
Well, at least we tried. - pahoehoe, on 10/12/2007, -10/+59@nfulton
Can you please tell where you got your statistic?
Thanks. - hambend, on 10/12/2007, -20/+65God dammit, people! I'm willing to bet that most of the Americans on this site would love to see Bush get impeached, yet all I hear is "no chance of passing". Why? 'Cause Nancy Pelosi said so? 'Cause McKinney is an asshat?
Who the ***** owns America? You or them? If you want this thing to pass, sign a petition. Join a march. Organize one (or both) of your own. Make your god-given voice heard. This is what patriotic duty is all about.
If enough people want it to pass, it will pass. Sorry if you have to give up an afternoon to get it done. - DDoSAttack, on 10/12/2007, -22/+63Yes the one in the same...
Trust me, we here in the Atlanta area find her to be just as much of a joke as the rest of the country does. - rhayes000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42The right to bear arms has nothing to do with protected our self from the Indians or any of that nonsense. It has to do with if the government is the only one with guns then they are the only ones with power. There is not chance for revolt if you have to fight with sticks.
- CZzyzx41, on 10/12/2007, -3/+39Scanned birth certificate and Social Security Card or you don't exist.
- theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -20/+53Takitus, do you even know WHO Cynthia McKinney IS??? Obviously not. Your hatred of Bush has let you be duped by the STUPIDEST member of Congress to ever serve. And I do mean EVER.
- arkmtech, on 10/12/2007, -14/+40Untrue - An impeachment could be followed by trials for war crimes, abuse of legislature to sweep the United States Constitution aside, & violation of the Geneva Convention.
Making that man pay for his incumbent crimes would *not* be a waste of time. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26@fangorious
Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution of the United States of America:
"...and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment." - d00ley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23It has to do with a balance of power between government and the people. It has to do with the having the ability to be to not be forced to be dependent on the government (and establishment) with regards to the basic necessities, ie. food, self-defense, etc.
As for being safer, Canada has a higher gun per capita ratio than the US by far, yet their homicide rate is much , much lower. Hence, access to guns does not seem to be the deciding factor with regard to violence.
You might try first, simply trying to reduce extreme poverty here, provide basic health care, and not create lucrative black markets through irrational and intense prohibitions, before you start talking about taking peoples guns and freedoms away. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -13/+32Impending Political Fight On Digg.
I suppose this is about as progressive as an Impeachment can be. He's done far worse than get a BJ from an intern. - Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Holy *****.
Corroboration: http://www.cynthiaforcongress.com/
She wants Cheney and Rice gone too. - danielrh9, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29Has no chance of passing whatsoever. Even a lot of Democrats don't take McKinney seriously. She's more suited to be on Judge Mathis than on the floor.
- taskrok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
George Orwell - celopes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Wait, wait... A member of congress introducing a bill to impeach a president isn't news?
Wow... I'm a little scared to ask what the hell you call news.
Regardless of if you agree with her or not (I'm going to guess you don't) - YES, this is news. - GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -18/+33Well, she's got some balls that's for sure.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23gun-free abyss.
- Synchro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@sven007
so who gets to decide when someone else no longer needs a right? you? the government? at what point will someone decide that the right to free speech is outdated? - russ960, on 10/12/2007, -25/+3860% of voters in a ultra liberal district of San Francisco. Hummm surprising huh? This is the same district that supported the elimination of our right to bear arms. We really should follow them into the abyss.
- satanatnmtedu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Clinton lied to cover up an affair. Bush has ignored the laws of the US to torture people. He lied to make the case for war, and he continues to manipulate the truth to suit his selfish and arrogant ends.
If Clinton deserved to be impeached, then Bush certainly does, too. It has nothing to do with political affiliation. The same standard should be held for both men. If it is not, then the conservatives who post here are hypocrites. If anything, Bush's crimes are more severe because there have been deaths as a consequence of his lies.
I fail to see why anyone would be defending Bush in this case. Can't one see past the political rhetoric to the reality of the war of choice in Iraq? Can't one see the incompetence of refusing to talk to people. Instead you threaten them and expect everyone to love you? Not talking to Syria and Iran will not solve the problems of the Middle East. Stating that you are bringing democracy to Iraq while punishing the Palestinians for exercising their democratic rights is ludicrous. - swit012, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I always wondered how long it would take before the Americans decided to exercise their 2nd amendment right and overthrow their government. It's been long overdue.
- greyfedora, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I'm no parliamentarian, but I'm guessing this bill is already dead because Congress is adjourning for the holidays. The bill won't survive to the next Congress, so someone would have to introduce it again. So it might be a symbolic move for McKinney but I don't think anyone is ever even going to vote on it.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14So everyone wanted to empeach a decent president years ago, because he got a BJ...
Where as they wont impeach Bush, even after all the lies he's spun for his personal goals, all the soldiers he's killed in the name of the war on terror... and after all the war crimes that happened either directly or as a result of him and his administration...
Yah, thats america for you... - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15It was a political disaster because Clinton was being impeached for getting head.
Bush has a trail of ***** a mile long that he's dragged through my backyard. Unfortunately, the Democrats are pussies and are going to let Bush get free reign up until the day he gets kicked out of office.
Hopefully they at least get something good done in the meantime despite his despoilment of my country. - MiloMindrbindr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11If YOU read two steps ahead, you'd see she's going for Cheney and Condoleza Rice as well.
- joe122370, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11you freaking idiots that believe crime will stop if you take away guns from law abiding citizen are living in bizarro world. You think making it a law will somehow cause criminals to magically decide to obey that one law? News flash!....they're criminals, they will get guns, illegally and normal citizens have no way to protect themselves. Well they banned guns in the District of Columbia and it's crime free......oh wait...whoops sorry, my mistake
- Carbamide, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I *hate* that. When *anyone*, no matter how great your comment, says something like, "yeah, yeah.. digg me down..", I'm going to digg you down. Have faith in your comment!
- dimension128, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@AngryRepublican
""***** moron. If you want to enact an impeachment measure, you NEED TO HAVE THE SUPPORT OF CONGRESS AND THE PEOPLE. McKinney has neither right now.""
She has my support. But I guess as long as everyone keeps saying "oh it wont happen because of xyz", it will just never happen. I'm pretty sure I learned this lesson sometime in grade school when the teacher said something along the lines of, "as long as you keep telling yourself that, you've failed before you even tried."
Dig up parent, his statement is very true. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15I looked at a short history of this "lady's" actions in congress, and she is ONE CRAZY B****!
No, I am not racist, I'm just practical with my own view of this countries future. 'Tis bad enough that we're out-sourcing everything. Am waiting for when we follow GB's footsteps into becoming a minor power in the world. - barryiggins, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11I don't necessarily reject the right to bear arms, but anyone who thinks they're gonna overthrow the US government through violent means is completely ***** crazy in my book.
- pahoehoe, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12>> No, I am not racist...
Dude, you just gave yourself away. Until I read this comment, I didn't realize race would be an issue with this story. Let me guess. Is she black? - Gemini25RB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8In a law passed earlier this year (Military Commissions Act of 2006), it was declared law that the President gets to decide how to interpret and enforce the Geneva Convention. Unless Cheney gets impeached also, can't touch Bush on war crimes.
- hambend, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14@CyrusG
"Or we could just digg this article."
It's funny when you say that, but it's frustrating as hell for me over in New Zealand where all I CAN do is digg this article and then whine in the comments. Let me put it to you this way; I'd bet you ten dollars that if America's elections were opened up to the whole world, the lowest voter turnout would be in the states. - theblooms, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20That's not why Clinton was impeached and you know it. He was impeached for perjuring himself to a Federal Grand Jury and Obstruction of Justice. If you or I were to do that, we would be thrown in Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Jail, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200. That is a serious Federal Felony. Just ask Lil' Kim.
What Clinton did was so bad, that the US Supreme Court unanimously voted to bar him from ever appearing in front of them. Yes, 9-0, including the Justices that he himself picked. That is the strongest rebuke that the SCOTUS has ever handed down in it's history. They also disbarred him.
All he had to do to avoid the whole situation, (well aside from being faithful to his wife) was to refuse to answer the questions under advisement of council. End of discussion, over and done with. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8LOL, I was just going to post this:
"She has hosted numerous panels on Sept. 11 conspiracy theories and suggested that Bush had prior knowledge of the terrorist attacks but kept quiet about it to allow friends to profit from the aftermath. She introduced legislation to establish a permanent collection of rapper Tupac Shakur's recordings at the National Archives and calling for a federal investigation into his killing."
They don't get any more nutty. - Randude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7There is no way the democrats would benefit by impeachment. They want to get legislation passed and creating a war with the executive branch would not do it.
It would also require a 2/3 majority vote which would be difficult to get. - bse5150, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15Yeah, that's a great idea. While two simultaneiously conducting two wars against sworn enemies who want to kill us, let's file articles of impeachment. That should bring us right to the brink of a constitutional crisis, setting all the country's needed/necessary legislation aside and wasting everyone's time and money on a useless revenge/witch hunt. This will ingratiate the country with Democrats for years to come. The American people would love to have the next two years tied down trying to force a president out of office, attempting to justify kooky conspiracy 9/11 theories, and publicly displaying the leadership-void which is the Democrat Party. Oh, and let's just never mind the daily threats against Western Civilization and our general existance from Islamic fundamentalist terrorist groups. That will somehow just go away.
I can't wait to see how the Democrats fare in the '08 elections after this display of nonsense, should they truly think they can pull it off. We all had to sit through the Repubicans chasing Clinton for two years. You think the Left would have learned the less on on that one. - celopes, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16Takitus, you did exactly what she wants the uneducated masses to do. She is horrible, even if you agree with her move in this instance.
- phineous, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What they don't tell you in that article is the way their runoff works.
http://www.americanblackout.com/background.html - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12About ***** time.
- Namtaru, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10@pahoehoe
RTFA.
"Speaker-elect, Representative Pelosi, dismissed any possibility of impeachment, saying it is “off the table” and that it is “a waste of time … making them lameducks is good enough for me.” Although, in the November election, 60% of the voters in her own district cast ballots in favor of Proposition J, a measure calling for the impeachment of President Bush."
It does say "own district" meaning NOT all of America. That said, I really doubt they would have gotten this far if impeachment had 0 support. - MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10either way, cut off the head of the snake.
- Gillhooley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8If Bush is impeached (he won't be) and then Cheney is after that. Cheney would nominate a new VP and Pelosi would not be prez. Just to clarify for some.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@ phineous
You're an idiot. She's close by my district, and pretty much everybody in the state except for her district thinks she's a complete nutcase. - Mediaright, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The problem with her is that even though she speaks up, the way in which she does it does not seem real or wholesome at all. In her own districts, the evidence consistently shows that she is willing to do anything, even if it is at the expense of her own city, if it will get her ahead in the press. Her actions do not appear to be sincere.
- cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The point most are missing is the fact this was done by one of the biggest nutt jobs ever to hit capital hill. Cynthia McKinney is a complete whacco. No, I don't go around calling many politicians whom I don't agree with whacco, or nutt jobs. But Cynthia McKinney is out there in outer space. Just google her for the bizarre rants she's been in the middle of.
The point is, if Bush were ever to be impeached the fact that Cynthia McKinney was the person to fire the first salvo has just made the entire the subject laughable. - DogHumpsMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Well, she's got some balls that's for sure."
If she had balls, she wouldn't have waited until she was on her way out the door. -
