- fuhcough, on 02/29/2008, -2/+40lol brilliant. sadly most people still won't get it though. "is it really that hard to get a signal inside NSA HQ??"
- Speed, on 02/29/2008, -1/+18To be fair, you probably COULD hack Windows with some glass cleaner...
- lohphat, on 02/29/2008, -3/+18Final product http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimgreer/2297874797/
- MindTrigger, on 02/29/2008, -0/+13Your average citizen has no idea what's going on outside their own car let alone what the hell "NSA Headquarters" means. These billboards hacks are fantastic to the informed, but I could point it out to 3/4 of the people living in my neighborhood and none of them would have the slightest clue about the meaning. If anything, most passers-by would think the billboard was just being updated by AT&T.
- drewlew, on 02/29/2008, -2/+14Bit of both, might consider it art as well.
- Zaggynl, on 02/29/2008, -1/+13HOLY ***** TIMETRAVEL
- tumbler360, on 02/29/2008, -1/+12"Yeah. You kids and your ideas of laws. They don't apply to you if you don't want them to."
You realize the irony in what you are saying right? Expecting us to follow the law when government and corporations just ignore it and spy on us? - PHiZ187, on 02/29/2008, -2/+12If you really understood hacker culture, you'd know that any clever circumvention of a problem or clever solving of a problem or clever approach to a problem is property qualified as a good hack. You ***** web2.0 noob-ass.
- weeeezzll, on 02/29/2008, -0/+10That's because you didn't search on MAPS.ASKYAHOOGLEMSN.COM...
Duh!! - DeadFox1, on 02/29/2008, -10/+19ALL YOUR BILLBOARD ARE BELONG TO US
- codo678, on 02/29/2008, -2/+11Whats the deal with those places AT&T says they work in? I've looked some up and I get nothing.
- Harbinger67, on 02/29/2008, -1/+9What the ***** are you talking about?
- sarixe, on 02/29/2008, -1/+9yeah, but who's going to call the cops on the billboard guys? what if they turned out to be legit? someone would have a very red face.
- weeeezzll, on 02/29/2008, -1/+8yea, when I saw "billboard" "video" and "hack" I immediately thought, "Cool, they hacked one of those new video billboards. This should be good!"
Sadly like the parent comment pointed out, this is better categorized as vandalism/graffiti. All in all not terrible, but the word "hack" lead me to believe that it was going to be something much better, and thus made the actual link seem really sucky in comparison. - codered1322, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6Everyone thinks it is someone else's problem.
- Speed, on 02/29/2008, -7/+13While, for the record, I think this is funny, and I don't really see anything wrong with it, don't call it a hack. Just admit that it's vandalism. Justified? maybe. But it's still vandalism, not a hack.
- sdcarter, on 02/29/2008, -0/+6If AT&T works in the NSA Headquarters, then why does it not work outside NSA Headquarters? I frequently pass it and am always dropping calls there.
- robalesi, on 02/29/2008, -3/+8Some of the better civil disobedience I've seen. Seems to me that there would be a better way than letter by letter though.
- BlahTsk, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5Couldn't they have called themselves the Billboard Liberation Team? That would've been so much funnier. "Tonight, the BLT struck again downtown..."
- leftfield, on 02/29/2008, -0/+5hey pass that ***** over here man.
- noahhoward, on 02/29/2008, -0/+4DAMNIT! I'm late!!!
- PHiZ187, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3The Electronic Privacy Information Center? Well, no, but its certainly related ;)

This is a country where people call in backpacks as bomb threats daily. - carlos259, on 02/29/2008, -9/+12AT & Owned
- oldhick, on 02/29/2008, -6/+9Stop telling me what to do.
- randomerratum, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Actually, anyone know the legality of this?
Is it vandalism if they're putting up something that can easily be removed? I actually don't know. Can anyone elaborate.
It's trespassing for sure, but if what they're doing is not destructive how much trouble could they get in? - pastasauce, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3My definition of a hack is getting something to do something it wasn't intended/allowed to do in the first place. This is just defacing.
- ToadLeg, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Now do Verizon: "We never stop working for you" --> "We never stop listening to you"
Goes well with the graphic of the hundreds of technicians following a person on a cellphone. - Mr8lack, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3no need to decide ... your comment covers both
- MindTrigger, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3I think it's a stretch to believe most people even know what "NSA" stands for, let alone what the billboard is trying to say. Kudos to them though, because even if they make a point to a few people, it's worth it.

- h3lx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+3Hacking would be using an device, method, or medium beyond it's intended function to further your own gain. That is, you can hack a fan to generate more RPMs?
/just trying to stay current, weekly memes and genre change on the hour around here... - 1800collect, on 02/29/2008, -4/+6This was just on the front page yesterday!
- mogebier, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Obviously.
- trammell, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2It has begun to come down: http://flickr.com/photos/chasingfun/2299498888/
- Hetman, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2It is not a conspiracy. Why would he want immunity for the telecom companies if he didnt do anything illegal. Secondly is this the 60s I have not heard anyone call someone a hippie who was under 50. If you want your right to be taken away that fine. But if you disobey the constituition then you have broken the law and is a criminal. "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. " Data mining is illegal search and sesiure.
- pnmoore, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3My perception of your statement is that you have a lack of technical skill and a hard on to call yourself a hacker. As such, you decided to define any change to something, whether it be AT ALL technical in nature or not, a "hack". With this in mind whenever I slice a piece of turkey at Thanksgiving I am "hacking" the turkey. When I put a bumper sticker on my car I am "hacking" my car. By using this definition people are really watering down what hacking means.
Putting these stickers (albeit BIG stickers) on the AT&T billboard is definitely sending a message of sorts and is very funny, but it is not hacking. Now if they changed a video board, or even if they put a device over the previous words that changed the words over time and cycled through the day, then I would give you "hacking" as what they did. - rally1, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Is that a police van @ 0:25 ?
- thugok, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2Actually, I would challenge you that very few people are informed enough to connect the message on these billboards with NSA wiretapping.
- mark076h, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2the BLF needs to send out a maintenance crew because it is starting to come down http://flickr.com/photos/chasingfun/2299498888/
- sambapati87, on 02/29/2008, -1/+3Doesnt seem like as much of a "hack" as "hanging letters over a billboard"
- supermanred, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Brilliant! More!!
- zomfg, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Fight Club style
*love it - h3lx, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1You're a hack for making such assertions. We are the general public and are currently using it, however incorrect. Now excuse me whilst I go and hack the ***** out of this iced tea, it's about to get 0WN3D!1!
- supermanred, on 03/01/2008, -0/+1Enjoy your phone that some guy is listening in on, sheep.
- ddast, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1What are you on about?
- dsenman, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Killed the lights, cleaver!
- vawksel, on 03/02/2008, -0/+1I agree with you, dugg up. Please leave the word "hack" where appropriate. You can hack your way into a computer, or hack your way into a house with an axe, but you didn't hack into the billboard, you just put stickers on it.
- cwgannon, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2Agreed. English is at no lack for words. No need to unnecessarily use "hack" so rampantly.
- codered1322, on 02/29/2008, -1/+2"noob-ass" too funny
