- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -11/+106I completely disagree with those religious demonstrators, but they have just as much right to that space as the gay pride parade does.
- fadeout, on 10/11/2007, -46/+124Anything from World Net Daily is a bunch of right wing paranoid delusional junk.
- Whammo, on 10/11/2007, -18/+65As a Christian I get no satisfaction from people dying of AIDS. We are all sinners, some peoples sins are just more distasteful. These people all need Jesus. Anyone gloating that some of those people marching may contract AIDS aren't really Christians, you are the people that give Christians a bad name. Shame on you... Matthew 7:3
- AgentAce, on 10/11/2007, -13/+58To invoke the Constitution in order to suppress the rights of someone who happens to express a differing view from one's own is just plain immoral and unAmerican. This is no different than the "free speech zones" which were erected during the last presidential election.
- Stillbored, on 10/11/2007, -7/+38This comment is seriously the only voice of reason in this entire topic. Not only is WND delusional right-wing paranoia, so are most of the comments here!

Yeah, you're all right. No biases here. Just good journalism. - hove, on 10/11/2007, -41/+69Anyone else starting to get pissed off with christians whining?
- blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -17/+41I've relied to a bunch of posts, now I want to post one of my own. Three things: 1st, Freedom of Speech does not give one the right to push into an organized gathering with the purpose of breaking it up, causing a shouting match, calling all of them whores or adulterers or stupid and telling everyone they are going to Hell. The Pride marchers were excercising their own 1st Amenement freedoms, and doing it the right way.
2nd, I am a Christian, but I am ashamed of the way most self proclaimed Christians act today. I guess we've always had "holier than thou" people with us, but I thought that sometime over the last 2000 years, it would fade out. God sent his Word to live amoung us to bring us a hope of salvation through GRACE! Forgiveness is the key, here. Live and let live. Judge not lest ye be judged. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. You are NOT YOUR BROTHER'S KEEPER. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.
Thirdly, one of the things some of the Christian groups complained about was that the Lesbians bared their chests, and boldly and blatently walked around topless. I say YEAH! If we had more topless women, we'd have less crime. God made boobies, and called them GOOD. Adam and Eve were only naked until they became ashamed. God made aprons for them, but questioned the need. He sees nothing wrong with simple nudity. Not that I'm Catholic, but even the Pope agrees on this one. Nude is not Lewd. Nothing wrong with a little skin.
Don't forget that Jesus of Nazareth walked naked in front of Mary. It's in the book. Look it up.
Okay, back to your regularly scheduled rants. - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20You are the type of Christian that I am (mostly) OK with.

George Carlin > your invisible superhero - RansomDenton, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20To the point regarding Gay Rights infringing on Straight families I have been married for 9 years and no gay couple, no lesbian couple nor a single straight couple have had one tiny bit of impact on our relationship! If two people in another house/city/state can, by simply being together and loving each other, somehow destroy your union...seek therapy quickly. It matters not to me and mine if a straight, gay or lesbian couple is loving, screwing around or hitting each other. But then again I don't care what anyone other than my spouse thinks, and she gets a pass now and then :) The only two people that can dissolve our union is we two, we two. Now if someone in another state wants me to by a car...well should I let them decide what car I get??? Maybe someday we will grow up...maybe not.
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -3/+21Instead of guns, maybe we should overthrow them using LARGE CAPITAL LETTERS.
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -11/+28The fact that the two ***** above me were dugg up vividly illustrates the utter, unrelenting stupidity of their ilk.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17It's a bit ironic for someone who is so against homosexuals to be calling anyone bigoted.
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20Yes, those pesky homosexuals asking to be treated like all of the rest of us. How dare they. Also, if god hated homosexuals, like you claim, he would have prevented AIDS from spreading to anyone else. Not quite.
- Jambi, on 10/11/2007, -7/+22Yet another example of the sad state this country is in. Both leftists and rightists are resorting to rule by fiat whenever anyone that dares disagree with them happens to voice an opinion. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are likely to do anything to further the causes of freedom of speech and freedom of action/assembly anytime in the future (unless they're using it as political ammunition to snipe at the other side). Unless some sort of drastic change occurs (and what that is I can't say), then in 20 years or less, this country will be a soft authoritarian state, at best.
- blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20They have the right to express their opinions, yes. But they do not have the right to disrupt other people's peaceful activities. I believe what we are witnessing here, is the plans, from a few well intentioned busybodies, to disrupt the peaceful activities of others. It would be the same thing if the Christian Brotherhood had a Sunrise Service in a public park, and was invaded by a Lesbian Biker Gang, who played loud lesbian rock and "scattered the flock" of those who were there for the Sunrise Service.
The preachers were not there to make friends. They were there to spew hatred and spoil someone elses day. - cozmos, on 10/11/2007, -7/+21In conclusion, these pastors should have an "Anti-Gay and Lesbian" parade and reserve a park for it. Then they should ban all people that have a difference of opinion, threaten anybody that does with arrest. And have Atlanta's finest patrolling it. It would be fun to see all of the rights groups that would be complaining and the city doing nothing about it. Atlanta has turn into a sham of a town. Such a sad thing

*snicker* - BrainInAJar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14you forget, however, how american christians have this weird persecution complex, despite the fact that far-right christians are who run the country
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11Just like interracial marriage and feminists, right?
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Uh oh, he used a Level 9 Accusation of Homosexuality attack! Good thing I have an anti-stupid counter.
Of course, naturally, anyone who thinks that homosexuals are, in fact, human beings every bit as deserving of equality and common decency as heterosexuals must be a pinko-Commie-fag.
You bore me. - blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15Yes, Gays and Lesbians are after your children. But then, so are the paedophiles, and the normal straights who are willing to wait until they are of legal age to ***** them. Everyone wants to ***** YOUR CHILDREN. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Or not, since it's the way things have been since the dawn of time.
- blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13How about, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." God will be the judge, and has instructed us not to judge one another. If some people want to have relations with each other, that is their business and none of ours. We are not to be the judge.
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15A valid message like; "Hey guys, it would be really great if you could stop using your religion to validate your bigotries and drop the meaningless, theological tautologies you hope will enshrine your prejudice in the law. Thing is, we don't give a ***** about how your magical friend told you he was going to send us to the cornfield if we don't adhere to the largely arbitrary, stupid guidelines he allegedly handed down. We understand that you don't believe in biology, or anthropology, or, well, pretty much any science - but here's an idea even you backwards, brainwashed ***** might be able to wrap your rubbery little minds around; leave us the ***** alone, and we'll leave you to your antiquated, dogmatic *****."
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13The real irony is in that he seems to think Fascism condones or supports homosexuality, when in reality Fascism is ultra-conservatism, readily evidenced in Hitler's extermination of homosexuals, which one can only presume the parent commenter would handily support.
- slicedoranges, on 10/11/2007, -7/+18Well, it's pretty obvious that the first 50 or so comments are from far-right mental patients. However, I can't say I agree with the decision to limit speech. Everyone deserves their voice to be heard, no matter what their opinion.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16Whining? So it is considered whining when you disagree with the loss of your 1st Amendment rights? Don't blame christians. Not everyone who is pissed off about this is a christian. Some are just sick and tired of watching their civil rights and the US Constitution burned at the stake due to a group of people who think they are above both.
Suck dick all you want. I don't care. BUT be prepared for the fact that some people disagree with your choice and have the same right to speak against it as you do to speak for it. If your choice is to stifle their voice, don't be alarmed when your voice is stifled on a different issue where you don't have your stormtroopers supporting you. - blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11On the one hand, people should have the right to express their opinion. On the other hand, people should have the right to organize a peaceful gathering without having others show up and shout ugly, hateful things at them. I want a free speach society, but I understand the idea that the police are there to "keep the peace." If the preachers were not planning on causing a scene, then someone should apologise. I've got a feeling, however, they were there to tell the people who were attending the function that they were hated by God and going to Hell. Am I right? Isn't that what I've been reading here?
If you believe that gays are going to Hell, fine. If you believe that you can lead them to a better life, great. I've never seen anyone give up something they enjoy because some stuck up ***** shouts, "You're going to Hell," at them. It's never going to work. Give it a rest. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+12"If lovin' the Lord is wrong, then I don't wanna be right!"
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Holy ***** people - savor the irony.
The parent commenter's name is "KerouacCat" - ostensibly taken from the writer Jack Kerouac; one of the most famously homosexual authors of all time. Of course, Kerouac was gay, but he claimed to hate gay people. Now, KerouacCat, is there anything you'd like to share with us?
*****. Awesome. - BrainInAJar, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Obviously God is also punishing hemophiliacs, rape victims, and people who were in vehicular accidents, children of HIV+ parents, as well as a third of Africa
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8It is "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and it has been proven to be a hoax, written to incite hate against Jews.
- blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9What about forgiveness? I thought that God, because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, will forgive the sins, no matter how terrible, of anyone who acknowleges Jesus as Savior? Is this not so? Does the fact that you, a straight laced Christain, get a pass at the pearly gates not also mean that the most dispicable crack-whore of a sodomite also gets a pass? What, you say? He didn't give up his life of sodomy? Let me ask you something, then. Have you not looked at any sweet young lady and felt that old familiar rise in heart rate? Have you not said in your secret heart of hearts, "I'd hit that!" Adulterer! the punishment for this is DEATH. Good thing God was looking the other way, heh?
Hypocrits, the lot of you. - fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8I would really hate to meet you in real life.
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9I hate these Christians, and I hate the KKK, but they have a right to say their hate speech, and I have a responsibility to defend the right to say what they want to, even if it is wrong.
- ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16I'm shaking in my ***** skin, you self-righteous, pseudo-religious, closet-case piece of *****.
- bobdotcom, on 10/11/2007, -16/+23Uhh, yes... its the LEFT that believes in free speech only if you agree with them...right.... thats why fox news tells both sides of the story: the right, and the far right...
- blqysmg, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I'm not sure that your logic is sound. I don't believe that they had any knowledge that one religion is not more or less correct than any other. I believe that they simply made the marvelous decision that, since there were many opinions, it was not the role of the government to decide between them. By opting out of the religious argument, Government could get on with the task of Governing.
They may have not considered that in the future, large numbers of non-Chrisians would make their homes in America. By being a non Church ruled land, we have the freedom to choose how we worship. It's a beautiful thing.
To keep this related to the article, the 1st Amendment protects the right to freely associate. That means that when the Gays and Lesbians want to associate, Fundies can't come in and break up the party. See? 1st Amendment rights protected by the Police. - soccerman90, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12it isnt free speech if you are trying to take away the freedom of other people
- Arcesius, on 10/11/2007, -21/+28I'm gonna try and be as civil as possible about this.
One thing that most of you "proud american righties" seem to ignore, and needs to be pointed out to you, is the notion of freedom of religion. In my mind, instituting this was one of the most enlightened things the founders of this country did. I'm extremely paranoid of anyone that praises the founders too much, on account of educational brainwashing, but I think they deserve a lot of credit for this.
I think intrinsic to this doctrine is the knowledge that no one religion is more correct than any other, and I don't think it can be construed otherwise. You guys seem to look past this, and it's completely incongruent with your national pride. Either give up your religious intolerance (yes, it's possible), or give up your American pride.
I could've pointed out a lot of other stuff, but this one notion seems quite relevant. And, seeing as how I've never posted this idea before on digg, now seems like a good time.
And, please don't use the threat of hell as a response... it's just absurd - betacmag4u, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Most of the Christians I know, I like, they are good people who make society a better place. These idiots make me hate Christianity.
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6I think these first 15 or so posts were from some bot with really good AI re-phrasing the same thing.
In a way, some of them do have a point about the hypocrisy of touting free speech (but only for people who agree with you). But trying to play the political party blame game on it is a little bit tired. I'm sure not ALL "liberals" support the ban (otherwise it never would have hit Digg's front page).
Definitely should serve as a good example for those who have played the political/religious blame game in the past though. It's not just Republicans and Christians who want to take away your freedom of speech. - oddmanout, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6i'm pretty sure that was a bot. If not, it was the same person composing the same rants. Sounded to me like Westboro Baptist Church, too
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Tell that to the nutjobs posting above you who are saying that god will now curse Atlanta with AIDS.
- TrnsltLife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5"I think intrinsic to this doctrine is the knowledge that no one religion is more correct than any other"
I think intrinsic to the doctrine is the knowledge that reasonable, well-meaning, and productive members of society disagree on which religion is correct, if any.
The only way to hold that "no one religion is any more correct than any other" is basically to hold that all religions are incorrect. The great thing about inalienable rights given us by our Creator is that you are free to believe that, and free to try to convince others to believe it. Just don't try to arrest me if I in turn use my inalienable right of free speech to try to convince you otherwise! - ncairns, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7So quick question - how badly *did* you fail civics in high school?
- gamabunta, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8"YOU CAN NOT CHANGE THE CONSTITUTION WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH ANYWHERE ANYTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
So I would be able to go in your house and insult your mother and father as well as protest your existence? The law has to be drawn somewhere.
The organization secured a permit to hold the celebration, therefore the woman was just to tell the man to protest across the street because he would have created a disturbance. You can't sit there and tell me the religious right wouldn't have GLAAD kicked out of a Christian event for the same reasons.
Now if the man was simply there NOT protesting then the woman wouldn't have had any reason to remove him from the premises.
If you still don't agree with me, go have a picnic, or better yet, lay down in the middle of the next major festival on public land. You will be asked to relocate by officers. - oddmanout, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6your right to free speech doesn't give you the right to disrupt someone else's free speech.... i'm pretty sure they weren't getting arrested for wearing tshirts like they said... not to generalize, but i'm pretty sure it was people standing in the middle of the crowd, yelling at people and "preaching the gospel" and getting in the way of the actual organized event. Its what also prevents gay people from marching into a christian service and disrupting church.
