- JupiterLander, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17well I am not a republican but I would like to see the party get back to the true ideals they once had, you know less government in peoples lives and fiscal responsibility for starters.
- Colbert, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19awesome, democrats get a boost and republican bicker amongst themselves
- suezq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11It is a Republican ideal if you are talking about money, not if you are talking about social issues. Democrats are the opposite - they want the government to stay out of social issues and increase control over economics. Libertarians just want the government to stay the hell out of everything. :)
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@geekee;
are you saying Lieberman is a "moderate"? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13you kidding geekee? Since when are Republicans tolerant of anything?
- fredrated, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"because moderate republicans aren't really republicans, they're more like closet democrats."
They are now that the Republicult party has been taken over by the lunatic fringe. - mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Come on guys, they're plenty tolerant. They'll tolerate fascism so long as it keeps their party in power.
- spirituscanis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The title of this digg is inaccurate: the article actually quotes Mike Hellon, one of the GOP-backed candidates, as saying "Stay the hell out of southern Arizona" to NRCC-backed candidate Steve Huffman.
My own message to the GOP: "Stay the hell out of Arizona!!". - thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5if it's transparent, ...oh... nevermind
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I think most libertarians are moderate, closet Republicans.
- jasyn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5it's like looking into a mirror that's transparent and doesnt reflect.
um - Tawni, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4As someone that lives in the district for this race the whole primary season has been crazy. It has been fun watching the republicans try to slam each other saying they are more conservative than the next. I'll just be happy that Kolbe is retiring. Being a primarily democratic blue collar area these republicans don't have a chance anyway.
- geronimo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Republicans in California need to do the same thing - they are polar opposites of eachother in many ways, from stem cell research to illegal immigration.
- LiterateWolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Republicans, Democrats, they'll all sold out to lobbyists. Despite appearances, their the same party with 2 sections. Wedge issues is what divides them and America.
- consonance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Unfortunately, the article isn't exactly accurate on one point: who is ahead in the Republican polls. Last I heard, Randy Graf has 37% of the support of Republicans polled, and Steve Huffman has 13% or so. Who is Randy Graf, you might ask? He is a right wing nutcase. How right wing? He is against all abortion - any and all abortion. He has professed that if the case for performing an abortion were rape or incest, abortion would still be a non-solution. He is also for traditional marriage and got an A+ from the NRA - he even says it in his radio ads. While he thankfully does not have a 50% majority, it is sad that he is still leading the polls before the primary, which is less than a week away.
In case you're wondering, Huffman and Graf have TV ads lambasting each other, as well. When Huffman realized he wasn't leading the polls, he decided to pit himself against the guy who was. - protogenxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Other Places the GOP Should Stay the Hell Out Of
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9"because moderate republicans aren't really republicans, they're more like closet democrats."
Moderate Republicans don't believe in a welfare state, nor do they believe in a progressive tax system. - protogenxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1New Jersey
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@geekee: I have terrible news for you, but in Republican circles, those are usually the ones that get labeled conservative, especially if they're social conservatives, too. (McCain gets a lot more praise from the right than, say, Lincoln Chafee or Arlen Specter.)
- tehbishop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1w00t! states rights are all right by me! Libertarian here!
- tmrini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Know what's really lame, IMHO? The NRCC is doing ads in the primary. Know what''s funny? The DCCC did a response ad.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -14/+12"less government in peoples lives"
That is a libertarian ideal, not a Republican ideal, at least not that I've seen in anyone not labelled a moderate Republican. - boonesfarm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0It's one thing to acknowledge differences within the party geographically, it's another thing to bite the hand that feeds you. Fine, then no GOP funds for ....Mike Hellon?
I wonder if Hellon will ever ask President McCain to help his state party. Last I checked, he's a Republican too. McCain should kick this idiot to the curb... like he did with Obama, the last sucker that double-crossed him. - thegsa, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7because moderate republicans aren't really republicans, they're more like closet democrats.
- NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3geekee gets dugg down for saying something bad about the ALMIGHTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5Right, because this didn't happen to Lieberman. The Republican party will hopefully be more understanding of moderates than the Democratic party is.
