- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -7/+387Apparently. She posts a notice that she "can't be spidered" as if robots can read English, then she sues companies who spider her?
Here's a teensy hint lady: robots.txt.
(Oh, and this post is written under the GPL. If you read it, everything you write from now on is GPLed. Hey, you agreed to it when you read it.) - doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+345her site is down anyone have a mirror...
...oh... right - iDiggIt42, on 10/12/2007, -10/+191So robots can read now?
- Spanktacular, on 10/12/2007, -7/+143Who cares of the robots can read? She's going to have to sue every single visitor to her site because browsers don't display site content remotely, as http is a stateless protocol. Every page you view, you're viewing locally from your browser's cache. You've COPIED it simply by visiting the site.
This is just plain ***** asinine. - Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+127If she wins, I might as well put “By visiting this page you have entered into a contract and agree to send me $5” on one of my web pages. Then when visitors don’t pay up, I’ll sue for millions! I’m almost as evil as the RIAA.
- strax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+128Did some more googling. This was definitely not an accident and is not meant to be won so much as to create a nuisance and financial drain for archive.org. It was a setup by the Church of Scientology, a simple bit of google sleuthing ("Suzanne Shell") shows the connections. The text was purposely not put in meta tags so Scientology could lob another nuisance suit at archive.org once the site was archived, this is part of an ongoing battle. Google the connections and spread the word, this nonsense must be stopped.
- malfourmed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+125I'm going to paint a big sign on my roof that says "YOU CAN ONLY LOOK AT THIS BUILDING FROM SPACE WITH HUMAN EYES", then sue when it turns up on google earth.
- trghpy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+104Welcome to the Internet.
As long as you're here you're going to get fingered in your mail ports, poked in your your FTP ports, prodded into your telnet/ssh ports, and all sorts of hooligans are going to spyder your web sites.
If you do not like this attention, please wear a chastity-firewall in order to block your ports. - Dested, on 10/12/2007, -5/+95What kinda balls does it take to sue a non profit organization.
- greatclare, on 10/12/2007, -5/+86From her site:
"IF YOU COPY OR DISTRIBUTE ANYTHING ON THIS WEB SITE, YOU ARE ENTERING INTO A CONTRACT"
uh-oh I'm in a contract now. - NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+64No im gonna patent that idea first and then sue you after you sue google and get even more money ! :D
- TehDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -8/+66I guess she didn't consider the hell she would bring down on herself for being such a materialistic fool.
- JCSaint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59It's gotta be the same lady...
http://www.digg.com/videos/comedy/Fat_lady_flips_out_at_a_group_for_Illegal_photography - xsuite, on 10/12/2007, -3/+58Maybe she should'nt sue and then she could spent the lawyer money on a good web designer.
- Enfenestrate, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55Yeah, well it's too bad that you pretty much can't even read it without getting sued for copyright infringement
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -0/+53nitrodust...you hacker!
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+45Oh Noes!!!! A MIRROR! That's illegal according to her!
- zarblebug, on 10/12/2007, -7/+51So there's groups of white trash parents who are AGAINST Child Protective Services? Hilarious.
(Apparently Suzanne Shell hates the CPS so much because the took her son away temporarily after her second husband spanked him. WITH A CAT OF NINE TAILS.) - Bamborzled, on 10/12/2007, -9/+50@brianez21
Not everybody on Digg reads Slashdot. I do occasionally (for the discussions), but most don't. - cliffzdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42There are very intellectual well educated people who have problems with how child protective services behave in many states. In my home state (Florida) a few years ago they were out of control. It turned into a great way to ***** with your enemy; Call in an anonymous complaint that Mr. Doe is abusing his child. HRS would show up and take your kid. After being treated like the lowest form of life on earth, HRS often would relent and "let" you have your child back.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43OMG, buttons PRINT and SAVE become disabled in my Firefox!!!!!
*just kiddin* - brianwesleyan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44"^ Everyone should call that number, ask for Suzanne Shell, and remind her what an idiot she is."
If you're going to call, don't be an *****. Obnoxious harassment will just give her sympathy ammo. Best would be to politely inform her of robots.txt's uses in automating crawler permissions. - Phirenzic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42Uh oh. I just kept a copy of this site in my browser's cache. Who do I make a check out to?
This lady must have one hell of a tinfoil hat. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+40I love that she used "CP$" instead of "CPS" The CPS can argue that they are not "CP$", thus, they don't have to pay. Rofl.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Or Firefox.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+41***** that. Just submit her email address to as many scat site mailing lists as you can.
- jerr0328, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Archive.org should sue her back: her website was a waste of space and bandwidth
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37It has no-brain-was-used-during-creation-of-this-site thing
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37BY READING THIS POST YOU ARE ENTERING INTO A CONTRACT. Terms:
1) All your base are belong to me.
2) You must buy me an ice cream cone of a flavor of my choosing.
3) Hot women must post nude photos on the Internets for my personal inspection.
4) In return, you will be allowed to continue reading this post.
If you agree to the terms of this contract, continue reading. Good, now fetch me my ice cream. Rocky road, sugar cone. Chop chop! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+45I bet she's such a bitching whore.
- victorc26, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32@nitrodist
She thinks IE is the only internet browser that exists. - NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34what if we dont actaully know of any scat mailing lists..... O_o
- strax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Everyone's missing the point, she wanted it to get archived so she could sue, this is part of an ongoing battle between archive.org and the Church of Scientology.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32Meta Tags / robots.txt... it is her own fault.

- What in idiot. That is one of the worst websites I've ever seen. goatse>her - thelastdyingday, on 10/12/2007, -2/+30she must be mentally challenged.
becuase my little sister's myspace page looks better then that ***** website. - JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29I'd love to have seen her try to sue someone with real weight, like Yahoo! or Google, since those two are also in breach of her iron-clad contract.
- Falldog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28It's a good thing none of that protection works in Opera.
- strax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25no, you should research what organization is behind this suit and spread the word... hint: scientology
- themightychris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Wouldn't this also then make an ISP's proxy cache illegal? What about the local cache on my computer? Let us pray that this case doesn't rely on the same computer expert testimony as that teacher porn popup case...
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27does it have the no right click thing?
- Drewskey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Haha! Major hackers on the loose:
"Saving the web page, as well as printing and copying was disabled..." does that mean they violated my rights?
Wait, it was done for my protection-THANKS FOR SAVING MYSELF FROM COPYRIGHT-INFRINGING HABITS! -sheesh - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24You're actually in Wikipedia's Lamest Edit War's page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Lamest_edit_wars#Personal_involvement
Also: http://web.archive.org/web/*/thethirdbestpageintheuniverse.com - Avalontor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26which means you are pingflooding every router between you and her. Nice.
- geegel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25There's nothing like a good challenge to improve the AI. Seriously though, the entire story is a bit surreal. I can't figure out if that woman is a genius or a hopeless retard.
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24The second most beautiful part of this story:
In the last few hours there have probably been 100x more hits to mirrors of her page than otherwise would have ever occured. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22Main page makes me sick. It lacks only a huge "Created in MS Frontpage" red-green banner at the top.
- strax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Scientology has been trying to shut down Archive.org for quite some time. I bet with a little googling it will turn out that this woman is not a "fool", but part of an orchastrated attempt of nuisance suits against this utility to drain cash from them defending themselves. Before thinking me a conspiracy nut, google "Suzanne Shell" and "scientology". scientology has documented policies of suing people not to win but to create a nuisance and shut them down. The "do not spider" was certainly only put in english and not meta tags just to set the suit up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24"SEE COPYRIGHT NOTICE & SECURITY AGREEMENT (READ BEFORE ACCESSING THIS WEBSITE)"
Wait, you have to access that page prior to accessing the site? Wow, she is a moron. - k8tek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22How does one read the contract before viewing her site. Wouldn't that require viewing it? What a ballcock.
- acdcfanbill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23"The content if this web site is intended to generate income, it is not free if you intend to archive, copy, print or distribute anything electronically fixed herein."
Spelling and grammar errors in so-called legal documents are pretty tacky. -
