- XkenX87, on 07/15/2009, -9/+274Id rather have teens smoking than popping pills.
- z0rk, on 07/15/2009, -6/+174It's always amazed me how it's ok to give kids prescriptions for any number of things but smoking a little pot is the devil. I'd much rather catch my theoretical kid smoking a joint than find them popping oxycontin, or put them on riddlin.
- Frankyfan3, on 07/15/2009, -5/+109"Advocates also point to recently-released data obtained by the Web site ProCon.org which indicates that prescription drugs are responsible for far more deaths than marijuana."
"Far more" compared to Zero?
It's not really a fair comparison, but the point is still a valuable insight for our policy makers.
:D - kemp34, on 07/15/2009, -8/+88In 2007 over 800,000 Americans were arrested for marijuana "offenses". With federal, state and municipal budgets HIGHLY strained for the foreseeable future, it makes more than a bit of sense to eliminate this extensive police, court, jail, prison, etc. processing massive drain on the public treasury and allow grown adults to responsibly use marijuana if that is their free choice. Like anything, use should never be abused and there should be resources available (small in comparison to police/court/jail/prison) to help those who desire help to get away from the (non-addictive) substance.
- CopsSayLegalize, on 07/15/2009, -13/+70What are we fighting this war on drugs for? Sign on to the petition for a ceasefire at http://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/5663/t/5525/pe ...
- borez, on 07/15/2009, -4/+58Man I could do with a joint right now.
- Schweppesale, on 07/15/2009, -1/+52I don't know, was it nicotine or caffeine?
Here's a better question, are you a ***** moron? - TheNyquilKid, on 07/15/2009, -1/+51Props to CBS News for this terrific coverage.
And hell I'm going to say it, props to the anti-drug groups who have finally realized the drugs our system not only allows but promotes and encourages are far more dangerous than cannabis.
The sad thing is these drugs that are prescribed to minors often times have common side effects that are worse than the ailment the drug is supposed to treat. Even sadder is many times marijuana is effective medicine for the same condition while being much, much safer.
People like to slam medical marijuana because it doesn't have strict dosing instructions, while missing the fact that is doesn't because doctors in MMJ states are allowed to recommend it but not prescribe it, but mostly they are missing the fact that dosage guidelines are less important because it is not lethal in high doses, it won't shut your liver down, it is the safest psychoactive drug their is, ever has been, and probably ever will be. If you use an abnormally high dosage you will not die, you may feel uncomfortable, but you will also quickly feel tired and sleep it off. Try that with a prescription pain reliever and you may not wake up, and even if you do you will almost surely have liver damage. - MattM0914, on 07/15/2009, -4/+46"Over the several years, without many people realizing it, the U.S. government has changed the focus of its anti-drug efforts, deemphasizing marijuana in favor of prescription drugs."
How about doing something besides changing the focus of your ridiculous TV ads, like rescheduling marijuana to reflect this shift?
I love how they compare the super deadly prescription drugs to marijuana. With prescription drugs suspected as the primary cause of death in 10,008 deaths, marijuana: ZERO. It's time to wake up and realize that marijuana is about as dangerous as carrots, potatoes, and pretty much any other vegetable known to man. - 1fastdak, on 07/15/2009, -6/+41So they are just now realizing that all of these drugs are far more dangerous than marijuana.

Under this logic, as the above posted eluded to, all people who have ever had an alcoholic drink, or smoked a cigarette, should soon be turning to heroin. Those are both ACTUAL addictive drugs, unlike pot. - elliotys, on 07/15/2009, -1/+34Wait a second. Doesn't marijuana kill ambition and drive? And the anti-drug group is giving up? I bet they are a bunch of pot heads who decided to stop being hypocrites.
- ElSantos, on 07/15/2009, -1/+31Hear hear. When I lived in Utah for a year, I knew a few kids who took "Skittles", or over-the-counter cough and cold pills (Robitussin gel caps, etc.). Sure, it gave them a high (dextromethorphan is a mild hallucinogen), but I found it incredibly sad that they had to get that high through pills. At least marijuana wouldn't give them potential health issues. Plus, abusing that ***** is just dumb.
- alamedaman, on 07/15/2009, -1/+30Wooderson: hey man, you got a joint?
Kramer: nah man
Wooderson: it would be pretty cool if you did - enantiodromia, on 07/16/2009, -2/+29Everything you said is correct, except for the "mild hallucinogen" part.
DXM is actually an incredibly powerful dissociative-anesthetic, and absolutely blows away most other drugs in terms of mind bending, including LSD and the like.
You aren't hallucinating as much as experiencing an entirely different universe. - Hetman, on 07/15/2009, -1/+27Why give up you were so close to stopping it. I mean it is not like you have been wasting billions of dollars the last decade. That would just completely stupid and irresponsible of that was the case.
- ElSantos, on 07/15/2009, -1/+26Wow, that totally makes all American History prior to the 1950s totally invalid for you! I guess that means you can go get you some slaves!
- inferno10, on 07/15/2009, -2/+26Next Stop: Legalizing It
- Paranor01, on 07/15/2009, -0/+23Typical ***** from you, you mean petersonca.
Most Cannibus arrests are possession and are non-violent individuals. Murders are the pushers of real drugs like cocaine, Ex, heroin, etc.
But you already knew that because you work at trying to make people conform to your troll rhetoric that you spout day in & day out here on digg. You are disgusting. - jessenoob, on 07/16/2009, -2/+24This is an outrage! People need to know the dangers of melting into your couch! Not to mention being lectured by your dog!
- inactive, on 07/16/2009, -8/+30Smoking weed? Reminds me of a clip from "Dinosaur And The Man" from the 1980's:
Dino: "You wanna put this brick of honey in the oven?"
Officer: "There's no oven here."
Dino: "Honey in the oven?"
Officer: "Oven here."
Dino: "In the oven?"
Officer: "Here."
...actually I don't even think that show existed. I'm just stoned.
And I kinda like how the words make this upside-down set of stairs... - inactive, on 07/15/2009, -2/+23I think it smells good :)
- Gumphlumph, on 07/15/2009, -1/+22So is dry cleaning, atmospheric pollution, junk food and many others. For women, dry cleaning and antiperspirant are the leading causes of breast cancer - maybe they should be illegal too?
- diguptruth77, on 07/15/2009, -1/+22A rare step in the right direction!
- enantiodromia, on 07/16/2009, -0/+21no, you will have serious problems. everyone else will be feeling pretty good.
- overtoke, on 07/16/2009, -0/+19actually, you've only made yourself look stupid, because driving under cannabis HAS been studied, and the statistics say that cannabis actually makes you drive more safely. (and yes i suggest you google that.)
it even makes a drunk person drive more safely.
i think i've had to reply to one of your stupid statements before, peters - suntzu420, on 07/16/2009, -0/+19@Petersonca: I give this about 3/10. Go back to trollin Yahoo Answers.
- Paranor01, on 07/15/2009, -2/+21@akchrs: you couldn't when it was illegal under prohibition. you know, the same prohibition they've got on Cannibus.
- Frankyfan3, on 07/15/2009, -2/+20.... in a study group consisting entirely of testicular cancer patient."
If you try to apply those findings to the general population of marijuana consumers, we would see a ridiculously high rate of testicular cancer.
But we don't. Weird. - clone206, on 07/16/2009, -1/+19"...in large part because prescription and over the counter medicines are far more deadly than marijuana."
That implies that marijuana is deadly; which any sensible person knows is false. - DankBuddz, on 07/16/2009, -0/+18I love how drug use is strictly deemed a "liberal" thing by some people when a good number of smokers I know are Republican.
- subliminali, on 07/16/2009, -1/+18i ***** loved that post and i'm sober. it honestly made me want to smoke weed again.
- Jeepinator, on 07/15/2009, -0/+17The people who want to do drugs are always going to do drugs. It doesn't matter if you make it illegal or not. The people who progress to things stronger than MJ will progress regardless of laws. If MJ didn't exist they would still get into other things.
- Gumphlumph, on 07/15/2009, -2/+19Having worked at one of America's largest media groups, and having seen the entire senior management group sitting in hotel rooms at a company summit in Atlantic City (we're talking $250k per year+ people) I'd have to say that's a an erroneous assumption. Truth is, some people are just lazy bastards, pot or no pot.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 07/16/2009, -0/+17darzee, I better not hear your kids yell and scream or smell you eating a big mac or smoking a cigarette, or listening to country music, *or heads will roll* LOL
- SpinningHead, on 07/15/2009, -0/+15It will also be easier to keep it out of the hands of kids if its actually regulated. Right now its easier to get a joint than a beer for many kids.
- DeathMarcher, on 07/16/2009, -0/+15Ritalin
- gantz9x, on 07/16/2009, -0/+15I'm guessing you don't take farts too well either...
- diguptruth77, on 07/15/2009, -0/+15What, you've never seen anyone talk in generalities here? No need to throw the C word around.
Was your mom killed by a stoned driver, or something? - daEvan, on 07/16/2009, -0/+15Weed has been proven to not impair driving ability and actually cause drivers to slow down, giving them more time to react to emergency situations. (Cited here: http://www.miqel.com/reading_library/archived_stor ...
So yes, it is fair to say "Zero," because the negligible effects of weed on driving ability make it irrelevant if the a driver gets into a wreck while high.
Pompous ***** like you don't know the facts and accuse people of being unfit parents and such. You're sick. If you disagree with me beyond this point, then you are literally a hypocrite because in the sight of the evidence I've given you above, you would still hold your false position. - SpinningHead, on 07/15/2009, -1/+16Compare that single study to studies on alcohol and tobacco.
- overtoke, on 07/16/2009, -0/+14insurance companies are responsible for most of those rules
- Procure, on 07/16/2009, -1/+15That was absolutely hilarious, but it may be because we both have something in common here...
- elliotys, on 07/15/2009, -5/+18I would like to see them do both, and just stop having kids.
- enantiodromia, on 07/16/2009, -0/+13i swear to god, all akchrs posts about are god damn testicles.
- tj111, on 07/16/2009, -0/+13***** you, 2 of my friends died from carrots.
- trafficlight, on 07/16/2009, -0/+122 of my carrots died from ***** you.
- enantiodromia, on 07/16/2009, -1/+13you're hardly a state now, buddy
- AMD64MM, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Oxy withdrawals suck. Weed is awesome.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/16/2009, -0/+12Oh?
