- inactive, on 05/08/2008, -0/+7Dugg for the story the guy tells in his first off-site group gathering. "My dad was an alcoholic circus clown. He used to beat me with his floppy shoes". It just gets better from there...
- preauxx, on 05/08/2008, -0/+5Nixon's Oval Office recordings of him saying what he really thought about the jews and particularly their presence
in the media are very well documented. His apology was as transparent and shallow as
Falwell's "apology" for their 9/11 remarks, or Mel Gibson's "apology" for his slurring words.
as for the racist bit, I absolutely regret that writing that one. In fact he's the opposite of. - alkajazz, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4Curses? Blaming Harry Potter for your children's sickness? These people are delusional!
- eir574, on 05/08/2008, -0/+4It's good to remember that most of us are far more subject to suggestion than we realize. If you haven't seen Derren Brown's videos on YouTube, they're informative and entertaining at the same time. This article made me think of his "instant conversion" video, in which he manages to get a room full of atheists (or, at least half a room full -- it didn't work on everyone) to believe that they'd had a religious experience: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sq-YUdq1OI . Brown did de-convert them, though.
He also got a stranger he met on the street to hand over his wallet and the keys to his house. Crazy stuff. Entertaining and mildly disturbing at the same time, as I'm sure the person who fell for that would never have believed it would work on him. - skylights, on 05/06/2008, -0/+4I think the media have beat the dead horse of Rev. Wright quite enough now. It's time they shift their focus to the other insane Reverand involved in this race.
- inactive, on 05/09/2008, -0/+4This story isn't going to hurt McCain. This is because republicans mostly actually agree with Hagee, and the few who might disagree with him on a few points at least tolerate his brand of jesus freakery.
That's why McCain is actually thankful for this guy's support! If he condemned him, he's lose a very substantial part of the republican base. It's gotta suck being a republican if you have any sense of dignity these days. - avengingturnip, on 05/09/2008, -0/+3And Ron Paul supporters are supposed to be the crazy ones.
- Nannybell, on 05/09/2008, -1/+4There is nothing in the Bible telling us to vomit demons into a bag or to hold our mouths open so demons can get out. The whole thing is absurd. Many Christians believe these things because they do not properly understand Scripture and are led astray by pastors who don't understand Scripture themselves.
- arbouler, on 05/09/2008, -1/+4do you guys seriously think the media is gonna go after a reverend who influences millions of christian extremists in america?
the only reason the media still holds double standard against obama and wright is because wright's comments are unpatriotic and almost everyone cannot relate to him.
the conservative religious rights dont have a problem with hagee's comments about homosexuals because they all can relate to what he says; they all disprove of homosexuals! it's as simple as that. - preauxx, on 05/08/2008, -0/+3... and it should start with the racist, anti-semitic Billy Graham, whom the current Bush as well as his father and his predecessor Regan, have all cited as their spiritual advisor
... and it could end with John McCain -- after originally and correctly describing him as 'an agent of inteloreance -- making-up with and speaking at the graduation ceremony of Jerry Falwell's Liberty University.... not 5 years _after_ Falwell blamed 9/11 on homosexuality, the ACLU and abortionists.... - Nannybell, on 05/09/2008, -1/+1P.S. For those who did not read this entire article, my comments above refer to incidents recounted in the article.
- flip2trip, on 05/09/2008, -2/+1Most of these Mega-Churches are nothing but entertainment based outlets having little if anything to do with the teachings of Christ. Hagee has gone so far over the edge he is no longer relevant. It's a shame that this is what is referred to as main line Christianity because it is not. However, I'm sure that these Churches will continue to be the ones the media focuses on simply because of the sheer numbers.
- flip2trip, on 05/08/2008, -2/+1".. and it should start with the racist, anti-semitic Billy Graham,..."
Would you like to offer some proof? Otherwise I will just dismiss you as someone who is off their meds.
