- reallyandrea, on 09/21/2008, -15/+224FTA: McCain Owns 13 Cars; Obama Owns One.
- kdawg1012, on 09/21/2008, -16/+190John and Cindy, with their 13 cars, sound like the average American family to me. And I'm sure he thinks of all of us, and our common, everyday financial problems, when he drives each of the 13 cars. Talk about elitist and out of touch!
- JenniferInMO, on 09/21/2008, -14/+185Wealth is irrelevent. In fact, if you are wealthy, good for you, I admit I am a little jealous, but I would never fault someone for being wealthy. The problem is that he doesn't even seem to understand or care to understand what it's like for people who work for a living. And I am offended when he calls Obama an elitists for pulling himself up, getting a good education and for working hard. I am livid when McCain pretends you know what's best for me.
McCain doesn't have a clue as to what it's like to be me, or most of the people on this board. My husband and I are struggling to make the payment on my Chevy Cobalt and my husband's pickup for work. When gas goes up to $4.00 a gallon it's not that we have to adjust our budget and forego a vacation or buy off the rack instead of from a designer. It means that we don't go out to eat, we don't go to the movies, we don't buy ANY new clothes unless they are absolutely necessary. It means that I don't go to the doctor because although I have insurance I can't squeeze out another copay for the visit, gas to get to the doctor and copay for the prescription because it isn't in the budget.
If you actually read both economic proposals you would see that Obama gets it, McCain does not. THAT IS THE POINT. - stlredbird, on 09/21/2008, -3/+113I own more vehicles then Obama?!?
This doesn't surprise me. Driving in Chicago sucks. - booksnmore4you, on 09/21/2008, -14/+111FTA
Obama's lone vehicle...is a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid.
Only the Cadillac is registered in [McCain's] name. Cindy McCain's name is on 11 vehicles, though not the one she actually drives. That car, a Lexus, is registered to her family's beer-distributor business and is outfitted with personalized plates that read MS BUD.
/FTA
So that's 13 to 1, and gas-guzzling to green. - Noodleson, on 09/21/2008, -19/+113"I've bought American literally all my life and I'm proud,"
Can we seriously trust somebody who only buys American cars to be president? How are you going to answer that red phone if your car is broken down on I-395? - ddmulholland, on 09/21/2008, -21/+80McSame's the name. 13 cars, 7 houses is my game. Yeah, he's a regular guy. What an elitist!
- gatewaydrug, on 09/21/2008, -6/+54Is MS BUD some kind of strain I haven't gotten my hands on?
- GuacamoleSan, on 09/22/2008, -1/+49The first comment nailed something important...
why did they remind the reader that Obama once owned the same kind of car as 50 cent? - MindyB, on 09/21/2008, -9/+54And now McCain is bitching at the "greedy fat cats" when his wife 9which he benefits from) is the highly paid chairwoman of Hensley Beer Distributor, has a net worth of over 100 million, and drops $500,000 in one month of shopping. His oldest son is the CFO of the Hensley company and I am sure his salary is enormous.
I guess the McCains are 'Greedy Fat Dogs' ?
What hypocrites! and to think people still believe he is a 'regular guy'.
It is disgusting! These people need to wake up before its too late.
McCain/Palin??Thanks But No Thanks!
Say yes to Obama/Biden 08! - kingofinternet, on 09/21/2008, -3/+38bill gates's secret stash.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -1/+36He doesent drive, the universe warps around him because he discovered the higgs boson through his sheer power of common sense. The answer is 42.
I wish I was that badass. - truthfightsback, on 09/22/2008, -6/+39Or, as the saying is starting to be heard:
"Those with 7 Glass Houses shouldn't throw stones..." - inactive, on 09/22/2008, -0/+31Because hes a baller thats why.
I wish i was that cool. - SillyRabbits, on 09/22/2008, -6/+37How the hell does a family of 4 (with school aged kids) get by with one car? I'm going to guess that the car is for the wife and he has a personal driver to ferry him around.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -4/+34"Obama ditched the 300C, once 50 Cent's preferred ride"
W...T...F? Who gives a ***** if it's 50 Cent's preferred ride? What does this have to do with anything, including this story, other than Obama and that gansta thug are both black? ***** journalists. - inactive, on 09/22/2008, -7/+34We own 4 cars and five tractors. I guessing I'm one of the elite? I also own 40 acres. Oh, and two riding lawn mowers and a milk cow. Yes, I'm elite. I actually own my own house that I paid for. Elitist I be.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -4/+31Well since they are all fords, you probably only have one working at a time so you're still cool!
- SillyRabbits, on 09/22/2008, -3/+28Not to troll, but you seem to have a similar problem that a lot of people do. They simply don't understand the concept of living within their means. That doesn't mean you can pay all of your bills when everything is going perfectly, it means that you can pay all of your bills even when things aren't great. If you can't pay for a new car in cash, you should be buying a less expensive used car (there are plenty of reliable 3-5k used cars on the market). If the bank approves you for a 600k home, you buy a 200k house instead. So many people put themselves in a situation that they are spending 95%+ of their income every month. Why? In that scenario every little emergency creates big problems. I'm always amazed to see people repeatedly claiming that they just need to make about 10% more, it's the same story no matter if they make 50k/year or 250k/year.
- Ultra99, on 09/22/2008, -4/+28Oh purleeeeeze - what are we, car nazis now??
I personally couldn't care less how many cars somebody owns since they obviously can't drive them all at once and pollute the earth etc. Otherwise, what they do with their money is their business. We already know about the 7 houses thing so I don't know why we're supposed to freak out all over again about vehicles now.
And attacking someone for owning foreign cars is just lame in this day and age, sorry.
Not to mention that the amount of PC-ness it seems we're priming ourselves to expect of politicians these days is pretty unreal - forget getting elected if you're not a church-going, American car driving patriot? Yah that makes sense. If you're a yokel.
Back to some REAL issues please. - JenniferInMO, on 09/21/2008, -20/+43Obama walks the walk driving a hybrid!
- Noodleson, on 09/22/2008, -6/+27Aw, come on! That post was totally funny! You're just burying me because I made fun of American cars aren't you?
- TEKJester, on 09/22/2008, -1/+21I think you mean...
"I own more vehicles than Obama?!?"
"Then" is used as a sequential indicator in a sentence. - MrKraut, on 09/22/2008, -10/+30@ Charlotte_Web
I guess you need to do the thinking!
McCain might just drive one car, but all 13 had to be manufactured and transported from the manufacturing site, therefore he would ALWAYS be responsible for more waste. - kent1146, on 09/22/2008, -1/+21I could see you needing 4 cars, 5 tractors, and 2 lawn mowers. But did you really have to put chrome rims on that milk cow, you elitist?
- TheVector, on 09/22/2008, -14/+34"Only the Cadillac is registered in [McCain's] name. Cindy McCain's name is on 11 vehicles"
Does Michelle Obama not drive a car or does her car not count to Obama's total, unlike McCain?
It is pretty obvious that McCain drives all 13 of his cars at one time in order to kill the environment.
Btw I find this whole article ridiculous. - charm803, on 09/22/2008, -2/+22"Obama ditched the 300C, once 50 Cent's preferred ride, after taking heat for driving a guzzler while haranguing Detroit about building more fuel-efficient cars."
But at least he set an example and traded green.
You can't say that for Bush or McCain. - JenniferInMO, on 09/21/2008, -5/+24A ford
- theaceoffire, on 09/22/2008, -1/+20McCain owns 102,202 flag pins.
- growler1, on 09/22/2008, -6/+25@fermi
Correction: He's a U.S. Senator, and you're the punk. - deadbaby, on 09/22/2008, -4/+23I really don't care that much what car he drives or how many houses he has. There are far more important issues. Is he out of touch with normal working people? Of course... he's been in Washington forever. He has no idea what real life is like at this point. Obama perhaps hasn't been there quite long enough to have forgot it yet. Either way, if a mansion owning, 13 car owning person was actually someone who I thought would be a good leader I would vote for them. McCain is not that person for many reasons deeper than his wealth.
- fuxxx, on 09/22/2008, -16/+35Who cares? Even if McCain had 13 electric cars and Obama had one hummer, mccain would win the unnecessary resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions game
- mohsenxp, on 09/22/2008, -12/+31OMG some of Mccains cars are FOREIGN!
That just proves he is pure anti-american. God forbid an American dares buy a foreign car.
What a POS article. - davecapp, on 09/22/2008, -2/+20New McCain Ad: "Barack Obama doesn't support our Auto workers"
- gtluke, on 09/22/2008, -2/+20are you seriously counting his THREE GOLF CARTS?
and his' 60's jeep? wtf?
they missed one, cindy owns a nissan drift car with her son also. - nowhereelse, on 09/22/2008, -2/+18"Simply owning a lot of vehicles is not an indicator of what is in a person's heart"
It's a pretty good indication that they think cars are cool and the more the better. - bezz, on 09/22/2008, -2/+17There's this guy who lives under a bridge in a 100% recycled material box and borrows a shopping cart from the supermarket. I smell the next president...
- charm803, on 09/22/2008, -6/+21"Obama ditched the 300C, once 50 Cent's preferred ride, after taking heat for driving a guzzler while haranguing Detroit about building more fuel-efficient cars."
I can appreciate that although he may have the means to get a couple SUV's, he's setting an example and after being called on it, he traded green.
Whether he is out of touch with the common folk is not the problem. Having foresight is. He is not worried about driving an expensive car, he's worried about our planet. Awesome!
Obama '08! - stlredbird, on 09/22/2008, -0/+15I stand corrected. Thank you.
- laserdog, on 09/22/2008, -0/+14The invisible hand of the free market takes him where ever he wants to go.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -7/+21"Only the Cadillac is registered in the candidate's name. Cindy McCain's name is on 11 vehicles"
So that means McCain Also owns one!..... - Acqua206, on 09/22/2008, -1/+15Damn, even Jay-Z can only afford a car for each day of the week. I guess for McCain, its a house for each day of the week instead.
- ProfessorSmug, on 09/22/2008, -2/+16Stories like these are my favorite for showing how much I really know and care about pedantic political issues!! It relates to something I feel passionately about and I must therefore throw in my two cents of what is clearly my own conclusion, not at all manufactured by the news stories that break each and every day!!! I have a strong opinion of people I've never met based on a gut reaction rather than their voting records!!!!
Who wants to make out???? - rald84, on 09/22/2008, -1/+15look at the other obama thread. he owns a bike.
- inactive, on 09/22/2008, -4/+18No, but they all have over 150,000 miles. And my newest tractor is a 1969 model. And my house was built sometime in the 1940's. But, one of my riding lawn mowers is only 2 yrs. old and my cow is 5. Hey, have you got a milk cow?
- DemDude, on 09/22/2008, -9/+22Yay, let's NOT read the article and then bitch about it!
"John AND Cindy McCain: 13. Barack AND Michelle Obama: one."
Since both couples are married, I think it's safe to say that you should count the sum of vehicles owned by both the partners, which was done here. Now shut the ***** up, Republican. - mashw, on 09/22/2008, -7/+20Yeah but you no doubt have a small penis so the universe is still in balance.
- kent1146, on 09/22/2008, -1/+14I could eat 4 Big Macs, 6 Quarter Pounders, 3 Double Cheeseburgers, a 20-piece order of Chicken McNuggets, and 5 Large Fries. But the 2 Diet Cokes I ordered doesn't make me a fatass.
See the fallacy in that logic? - jclawson06, on 09/22/2008, -6/+18I'm no McCain fan.. but seriously? It's all twisting statistics. This is a totally one-sided article. One McCain car is a "foreign-made Toyota Prius", (emphasis on foreign-made, to sound negative), but Obama has a "green machine, a 2008 Ford Escape hybrid"? The prius (assuming a 2009) gets 48mpg, the Escape 31. Isn't the Prius really the "green machine" here?
And secondly, it says Obama only has one car; but how many are registered to anyone connected to him, that "should" be registered to him (since his daughter's, and company cars counted for McCain)? You could certainly twist it the other way and say McCain only has one car.. the one registered to him. The same thing they did for Obama.
This is totally unacceptable "journalism", nothing short of one-sided slander.. for a national publication, I'm ashamed. - jacksim, on 09/22/2008, -3/+15FTA: "The McCains also own three 2000 NEV Gem electric vehicles, which are bubble-shaped cars popular in retirement communities."
Indeed! -
