- inactive, on 09/25/2008, -1/+11I don't hunt. I think that killing animals for sport (not for eating purposes, but sport) is not a good thing. But, Alcee Hastings' comments were idiotic.
"... Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats ... that they should be wary of ... Palin because 'anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.'” - Taquoshi, on 09/25/2008, -1/+8If I am not mistaken, the highest incidents of violent crime involving guns is not white on black crime, but black on black crime. Apparently more blacks are murdered by their "brothers and sisters" than perpetrators from other races.
And, in Israel, most of the adult Israeli population is well versed in the use of firearms, if not former armed service veterans. They do this for protection.
Sad that black and Jewish Democrats believe that anyone not of their racial or ethic group with a firearm is out to murder them.
As for hunting, I'm not a hunter either, but our area has an increasingly serious problem with the deer population, both in spreading Lyme disease, and involvement serious car accidents. They eat people's gardens which is annoying at best, but livable. However, controlled hunts are used in our area and the meat is donated to the local food pantry or to the soup kitchen. Hunters are very conscienous what they are doing and go to great lengths to protect the public (even the idiots that vault the temporary fencing and run around the woods where the controlled hunt is taking place in order to "protect" the deer).
And finally, Bobu631, I'd go for a J.C. Watts/Condi Rice ticket or a J.C. Watts/Alan Keyes ticket or almost any combination of the three. - Bobu631, on 09/25/2008, -1/+8Bernk1 - I don't hunt either, but my brother does as do a lot of my friends. All of them hunt for one reason - to use the animal for food. If it's a good one, they'll have the rack mounted. But, their primary purpose is for the food. Not to mention, controlled hunting, which is what takes place in most areas, (via hunting licenses, etc.) is a great way to keep the animal population healthy and well fed.
Now, on the more serious matter. I don't know how many times I've heard the race card come up. I am a white, middle class Republican who happens to think that America's diversity is what made her great. I am personally offended by people on the left who call me a racist because I won't vote for their guy. I think we should turn it around: they are sexist because they won't vote for our girl. How is it different? I saw an article the other day where they quoted one of Obama's followers saying "if he [Obama] doesn't win, it must be race". How preposterous is that?
I'll tell you what, give me a ticket with Julius Ceaser (JC) Watts and Condoliza Rice and I'll vote for it in a heartbeat. Somehow I just don't think you'd see all the minorities (blacks and women) crossing over to vote for that ticket. Yet, we are called racists because we won't jump on the Obama bandwagon. Ridiculous.
Keep up the pressure...
Regards to all my fellow Americans!
BK - LafayetteAve, on 09/25/2008, -1/+7Some history on Mr. Hastings:
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Alcee_Hastings_B ... - DanThePainter, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5I'd rather see former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele in the VP slot on your ticket. Dr. Rice dosn't want the post anyway.
- DanThePainter, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4Sadly, Alan Keyes would not appeal to many moderate voters.
- Bobu631, on 11/04/2008, -0/+0Dan - point well taken. I was using this as an example only. As I recall, Condi wants to be the next NFL commssioner :)
