N.B.It's not sexist when it's funny AND true. ;o) - tammanycall, on 09/14/2008, -14/+171That's a lot of opposition on her home turf, especially considering the size of Alaska's population.
- Gemfinder, on 09/14/2008, -11/+115Sarah Palin's town of Wasilla was originally settled by people fleeing the Dust Bowl back in the '30s. FDR resettled them there and they worked the land. Alaska is a veritable utopia for farming; the midnight sun makes veggies grow to gigantic sizes. Tomatoes that'd tide you over for a day. pumpkins that'd take care of your family for a week. They were Democrats, and voted that way.
But a generation ago, oil-barons from Oklahoma and Texas moved in, following the oil money. And there was lots of it. They displaced the Dust Bowlers and swung the state solidly towards the Red.
Alaska is very much still a frontier. That's why rape and domestic violence are the #1 violent crimes up there. It's basically the Wild West where the cowboys won and cynical robber barons can do whatever they damn well please, with impunity. - sarahlee, on 09/14/2008, -17/+106Great first hand report with photos and video! Pretty substantial crowd.
- kinseyincanada, on 09/15/2008, -15/+94who the hell is Sarah Palin?

- m4532v, on 09/14/2008, -17/+75You can't hide from the media for long. We just have to see if this story gives those spineless pundits and reporters the reason they need to blow up all the media hype that they started in the first place. The media giveth and the media taketh away!
- DavidinBoston, on 09/15/2008, -12/+70Picture this freakish woman (who wants creationism taught in schools and doesn't believe in abortion rights even in the case of rape or incest) picking the next Supreme Court justices. Just THINK ABOUT THAT for a minute. Nuff said.
- audomatix, on 09/15/2008, -15/+70F*CK YEAH! THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! STAND UP FOR YOURSELVES!!!

If I benefited from all that, I think I'd give her a positive rating too. - dselliott, on 09/15/2008, -1/+40She HAD an 80% approval rating, but my understanding is that its been steadily dropping. One local blog has it as low as 67%:
http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/what-is-m ...
"After extensive news coverage about all this nasty behind-the-scenes scandal, which is definitely NOT squeaky clean, Palin’s approval ratings fell to 67%, still high, but a far cry from the 90% number that’s being thrown around so glibly by the Republicans today. Alaskans are quickly becoming disillusioned once again. - peaceofpie, on 09/15/2008, -3/+41I love America when she stands up for peace, love and hope. Thank you brave Alaskans for giving me hope again!!!
- samrum, on 09/15/2008, -6/+38Those were some pretty clever signs they had.
- orlyfactor, on 09/15/2008, -4/+36There are women in Alaska???
- audomatix, on 09/15/2008, -11/+41"McCain/Palin - Incontinence and Incompetence," Yeah that's my new favorite slogan for their campaign.
- dafoe, on 09/15/2008, -1/+31Thanks for the excerpts from NY Times article. Here it is
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/14/us/politics/14pa ...
Read it. It is a big and very interesting article. - peaceofpie, on 09/15/2008, -3/+27People teach their children to believe in God and that's okay. Why is it wrong to teach children to believe in peace, love and truth? After all is God just a word? I think children holding signs for peace is evidence their parents are intelligent humans that have evolved way beyond people like Bush, McCain and Palin who just believe in using violence to get what they "think" is right even if it is based on lies. Iraq had nothing to do with 911. Parents better be teaching their kids to say no to war or this will not end. I thank those parents for teaching peace for all, which is the ultimate form of God's love on earth. The children in these pictures looked so happy and full of love and joy that you can tell they will be free and able to tell when blind patriotic verbal abuse is being used to kill humans around the world. Teaching children how to go to a peaceful political rally is perhaps the most important step in understanding democracy and how you can be heard when decisions are a matter of life and death.
- jimchap, on 09/14/2008, -2/+24what a great post!
- instigator24, on 09/15/2008, -5/+26Obviously, all the people at this rally are just sexists.

(No, you read that right; McCain won't make it to March.) - byronm, on 09/15/2008, -3/+22Please.. good parents teach good values. I wish more people were taught about protest.
- shpilk, on 09/14/2008, -2/+20So you think Ron Paul is a 'tard' too .. Gee Karl you must desperate, blogging on Digg.
No one wants your filthy corrupt Party anymore. Go soak your head. - inactive, on 09/14/2008, -1/+19shpilk- don't pay any attention to paultards/drmagicone/pajeff2/sportsstar67- he has been banned from digg three times for violations of the terms of use and this is his fourth digg account. You will notice that his pointless posts are mainly one liners where he tries to make people angry.
The best way to deal with him is to bury his comments and move on.
You will never get a conversation out of him that has anything to do with reality.
He's not an independent, he's just wrong. - Homerr, on 09/15/2008, -1/+18-Read my lipstick - Vote Obama
- haydesigner, on 09/15/2008, -1/+18All accounts?
(Pssst... that is only one)
(and that is still showing the post-convention bounce for McCain, which that site clearly acknowledges itself) - tjoiner, on 09/15/2008, -16/+34Wow, that's a lot of people who don't like her! But considering that she has an 80% approval rating in Alaska, doesn't that mean a pro-Sarah rally would have four times that many people there? For every person at this rally, there are four that think she's great, right? So what's the big deal?
- cJw314, on 09/15/2008, -2/+18Pfffft... polls don't call cell phones; people who will make the difference don't have land lines.
- cheesylobster, on 09/15/2008, -0/+16You forgot the sign that got my vote: "pie"
- u2wedge, on 09/15/2008, -4/+20this makes me feel better.
- heystoopid, on 09/15/2008, -1/+16Didn't your mummy tell you never count your piglets before they hatch ?
- ZurMacht, on 09/15/2008, -23/+38Great story, but it is a little frustrating to see some people parading their kids with messages of what the parents believe in... When I was a kid my idea of fun would not have been a political rally.
- firebirdx01, on 09/15/2008, -4/+18I liked the dog with the sign just chilling there.
- DesertTripper, on 09/15/2008, -1/+15Don't forget the sign with the drawing of Palin and the word HYPE underneath. That one sums things up pretty well.
- OfNumbers, on 09/15/2008, -9/+21The McCain-Palin supporters came out in force.
- Kinsbane, on 09/16/2008, -0/+13Labeled inaccurate? Jesus. The bury-brigade is in full swing.
- helenkupo, on 09/15/2008, -0/+13I want giant tomatoes!
- smacksaw, on 09/15/2008, -1/+14Actually, I'm not afraid that Obama might not get elected, but that she could get elected or even be the president.
But if she wasn't so full of controversy, there'd be nothing to post. Hence the lack of Joe Biden articles. - TalentedMoron, on 09/15/2008, -1/+14In 2000, George Dubya had 80% apprival rate too. Now, even McPain stays clear of him. You Republicans are funny.
- Quag, on 09/16/2008, -0/+12How is this inaccurate? More blatant abuse of the system.
- SammyJr, on 09/15/2008, -1/+13@Charlotte_Web
$3 million is nothing when compared to the Bridge to Nowhere funds that Palin kept. - inactive, on 09/15/2008, -0/+12There's so much sexism bubbling over in the Republican party. It's so fascinating to watch. Here's a hint, picking Sarah Palin was probably the most sexist move they could have made. Why? Sarah Palin, the beauty queen, clearly has zero credentials for the job of Vice President. She lacks completely the education for the job. She's publicly stated that she doesn't know what the Vice President even does.
Palin was promoted to the VP nominee spot beyond her abilities because she is a woman. She was given the VP nod because the McCain campaign feels she would help them win the female demographic. Palin didn't earn her spot through education, hard work, and dedication. She was placed in the spot for one reason, she's a woman. This is blatant sexism.
And then you've got pople like Paultards who make the stupid claim that "Hillary was supposed to be the chosen female..." What kind of idiocy is that? As if all women voters think about is the gender of the candidate that is running for office. It's pure, unadulterated sexism any way you slice it. - seantubridy, on 09/15/2008, -3/+15Would you rather they just hang out at Chuck E Cheese and never get to experience anything worthwhile? And they look like they're having a good time to me.
- whataSAMF, on 11/28/2008, -2/+14she's a pitbull with lipstick
- travisharju, on 09/15/2008, -9/+20It's going to suck when she doesn't make it to the white house and doesn't have a home to go back to. Maybe a nice pack of wolves will take her in...for dinner.
- wonderworm, on 09/15/2008, -0/+11Any woman who had the misfortune to be raped in Wasila while Sarah was the mayor had to cough up the money for their own rape treatment.
Just another fun fact from the Palin Progress Institute. 4 Years of Palin gives you 400 years of the Dark Ages. -
