- sugarazor, on 05/08/2009, -24/+83I can't wait for some wingnut to come in here and start complaining about First Amendment rights being violated even though Notre Dame is a private university.
- TheJimid, on 05/09/2009, -15/+73YES WE CAN....arrest your crazy ass since this is private property.
- Vyan1, on 05/08/2009, -26/+81Couldn't have happened to a nuttier Martian Invader.
- huxleyan, on 05/09/2009, -6/+45Alan Keyes has a lesbian daughter that he disowned.
"Now Maya Keyes -- liberal, lesbian and a little lost -- finds herself out on her own. She says her parents -- conservative commentator and perennial candidate Alan Keyes and his wife, Jocelyn -- threw her out of their house, refused to pay her college tuition and stopped speaking to her."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A200 ... - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -5/+35Keyes can't cry First Amendment because he was on private property. If someone comes on your property carrying a sign protesting you are perfectly in your rights in kicking him off.
- JigoroKano, on 05/09/2009, -3/+32I never could have imagined the day when all the hippies were Republicans and The Man was a black liberal.
- eth3r, on 05/09/2009, -3/+31When did that happen?Mmost of the people arrested protesting bush and war and iraq were arrested on public property since police generally seal off buildings holding the president.
The biggest complaint I can remember is when those nuns got 6 months in jail for protesting on private property against the school of the Americas rape of nuns and murder of priests.

- zephyear, on 05/09/2009, -4/+27you trolling or you miss the part about notre dame being a private university meaning they can kick whoever they want off campus
- seattle98104, on 05/09/2009, -4/+26What a douche.
- eth3r, on 05/09/2009, -0/+21here is evidence in support of my case
both of these links are arrests on public property

here is an example of an arrest on private property, but the people arrested had been issues tickets to the event, and were legally aloud to be there. Notice no one screaming 1st amendment.
http://www.sptimes.com/2002/11/03/TampaBay/7_prote ... - rdldr1, on 05/09/2009, -6/+27Alan Keys is still bitter about getting his ass whooped by Obama in the Illinois Senate election back in 2004. He only got 27% of the vote.
- Zaxcomp, on 05/09/2009, -1/+22They were arrested for trespassing, not for what they had to say. Even if what you are yelling is factual and agreeable as you are getting handcuffed for not leaving private property, you are still getting arrested.
- charm803, on 05/08/2009, -20/+40I enjoy reading about how tolerant Catholics are.
/s - TheSwashbuckler, on 05/09/2009, -0/+19Well then, let me refresh your memory. The first amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
cut down to the relevant parts for this discussion:
Congress shall make no law ... abridging the freedom of speech.
The federal government (and through subsequent amendments state and local governments) cannot stop freedom of speech. However, no mention is made of private entities restricting freedom of speech.
Go take a civics class at an adult ed center --- you seem to need it. - bpwrinn, on 05/09/2009, -3/+21"You'd think Notre Dame would remember that God isn't a respecter of persons"
... wut? - Nevarius, on 05/09/2009, -1/+18its called private property, and the school in question only allows STUDENTS to protest upon their PRIVATE property. If it was on public property then no problem.
- ironhide, on 05/08/2009, -18/+34Good, throw the book at him. Of course now the loon will be a martyr.
- eth3r, on 05/09/2009, -0/+16or here
About a dozen anti-war protesters were arrested Tuesday during a peaceful demonstration of President Bush's speech before the U.N. General Assembly.
The arrestees were among about 400 people opposing the Bush Administration's war in Iraq, and its incarceration in Guantanamo Bay of more than 300 men on suspicion of terrorism or links to al-Qaida or the Taliban. Many in the crowd wore orange jumpsuits in solidarity with the Guantanamo detainees.
The arrested demonstrators were taken into custody by police after kneeling on the sidewalk in an act of civil disobedience at the rally near the United Nations.

William Buckley must be rolling over in his grave.
The current conservative party has destroyed the true meaning of conservative..
BTW...Buckley's son voted for Obama - zephyear, on 05/09/2009, -9/+25who gives a *****
notre dame is a private university, if they don't want him being retarded on campus then they can kick him out - JoeMondo, on 05/09/2009, -7/+23Publicity stunt for Mr Keyes.
He and his ilk - Coulter, Limbaugh, Malkin, etc - need manufactured scandal and outrage to fuel their careers, since they have no meaningful product or contribution to make. - eth3r, on 05/09/2009, -0/+15It's almost always public property, and I agree with the other posters that public property is more a first amendment issue than private property. It should be noted that one does not give up ones constitutional rights when one enters private property, they can just ask you to leave.
- eth3r, on 05/09/2009, -2/+17I think you missed my point, I'm not saying the left doesn't complain about being arrested, but generally they are arrested on public property, esp dealing with presidential protests. I think this is mostly because bush didn't speak in that many university's, but rather he spoke in office buildings which they don't let protesters near.
I want examples - boo1, on 05/09/2009, -6/+21hyperbole much?
- Maddoktor2, on 05/09/2009, -4/+18What part of "arrested for trespassing" do you not understand?
- TheSwashbuckler, on 05/09/2009, -1/+15"Free speech" does not mean that someone has to give you a platform for you to speak...
- hipnerd, on 05/09/2009, -9/+23Bush was removing people who had tickets at public events simply for having a bumper sticker supporting the other party on their car. That's a world of difference.
- faskippy, on 05/09/2009, -11/+23I know! Funny, huh? What a difference a day makes. When Bush was having people removed, they were all screaming, "my rights, my rights". Now it's "good! Throw them under the jail". Just wait, something similar will happen by some conservative, and they'll be at it again with "my rights, my rights". LOL!
- faskippy, on 05/09/2009, -7/+19I remember when the same thing happened at a Bush speech. Oh well.
- TheSwashbuckler, on 05/09/2009, -5/+17Alan Keyes as President of the U.S. would be a disaster of epic proportions.
- Phylter, on 05/08/2009, -22/+34Alan Keyes is a lunatic on the grass... He needs psychiatric help
- ironhide, on 05/08/2009, -9/+20Doesn't matter. I'd have the same attitude if it were left-wing protesters. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
There are plenty of left-wingers who have had the balls to accept jail time for their beliefs. Let's see how loudly Keyes bleats about his treatment. I'm going to assume that there will be a conspiracy involved somehow. - JoeMondo, on 05/09/2009, -1/+12Yeah, because Notre Dame wealthy alumni are big Alan Keyes fans.
Koo koo. - ironhide, on 05/08/2009, -11/+22He's a birther. 'nuff said. He wants to circumvent the presidential election so why should I worry about his sour grapes?
- bratterscain, on 05/09/2009, -5/+15In before someone starts slinging insults and making this a partisan issue . Ah crap, sugarazor beat me to it.
- Joepoag, on 05/09/2009, -4/+14That is realy sad. I cant imagine a parent disowning their Child nomatter what the child did. She is still his daughter.
- TheJimid, on 05/09/2009, -3/+13Don't blame the grass for his issues.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -1/+11Heres a simple checklist.
City Hall = Public building, they can ask you to leave, but you are well within your rights to continue a legal protest (as long as you dont squat or camp).
Private Catholic High School = Privately financed building, if you are on their property protesting, you will be arrested if you don't leave when asked. However, the public sidewalk surrounding the school would probably be fair game. - ngmcs8203, on 05/09/2009, -1/+11Babies? What do they have to do with trespassing? Better yet, what does a collection of cells have to do with trespassing? While we're at don't kill a fly today if you feel destroying a collection of cells is murder, otherwise we'll call the police! Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUwnMX8ht3U
- vision777, on 05/09/2009, -1/+10Notre Dame is not a public university they would also not let someone come in and tell everyone abortion is okay.
- seattle98104, on 05/09/2009, -4/+13I would expect "them" to come for me if I was trespassing on private property refusing to leave. All Keyes had to do was stay on public causeways (e.g. the public sidewalk outside of campus) and he would have been well within his 1st amendment rights.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -2/+11Most Catholics are Dems FYI
- zuiquan, on 05/09/2009, -4/+13I would like for you to prove to all of us that this "God" you speak of actually exists and is more powerful than the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Until then, I consider your rantings of the lunatic variety.
- dougbdl, on 05/09/2009, -0/+9What is it with right wingers? 'Ultra' left? Far left isn't good enough anymore?
- smotpoker, on 05/09/2009, -4/+12I don't think anyone on the left ever complains about protesters being removed from private property, only the amount of force used to remove/discourage them. When wingnuts start getting shot with various lethal and non-lethal weapons, beaten, dragged across the pavement, knocked down, pushed around and arrested for picketing non-violently in public places or passive-resistance *then* they will have as much right to complain as lefty-activists.
- kbillar, on 05/10/2009, -1/+9Word of advice (this is coming from someone who didn't vote for either Obama or McCain). Being a dick while being a representative of your political affiliation doesn't help, it just makes people think "god all liberals are dicks, I don't want anything to do with them". I say the same thing to anyone of any political affiliation. I am going to Digg you down (and I sure the ***** don't want McCain in office) because your a dick.
- sandipc, on 05/09/2009, -3/+11okay, got it. so what's alan keyes, then?
- JoeMondo, on 05/09/2009, -4/+12That's Republican Christianity for you.
- gopfan, on 05/09/2009, -4/+12Nothing here, it's just Alan Keyes being Alan Keyes.
