After Ney Admits To Crimes, Boehner Refuses To Call For His Resignation
thinkprogress.org — Yesterday on Fox News Sunday, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) was asked whether Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) should step down from Congress. Ney pled guilty last week to federal corruption charges, admitting to prosecutors that “he had accepted tens of thousands of dollars in illegal favors from Abramoff and from a Syrian businessman.

- mikesty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Wait, why does anyone have to step down? Shouldn't they just be thrown out?
- Walmentheman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12hahah his last name is Boehner
hahahhaah- omgwut, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I guess he pronounces it 'Bayner.'
PBBBFFFT.

- pjack91, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I think Boehner is just ejaculating a constant string of semen.
- Neumahn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I know the Democrats have a real hard on for this guy but it would be a real boner if he is not asked to step down before the next erection.
- Obvioustroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As far as I know, you're automatically expelled if you're convicted. Since Ney pled guilty, I'd assume the only question is "how fast".
- Neumahn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0So your saying that even though this guy is a big member of congress he can get ejaculated just like that? What a tool!
- nobodyshero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Having seen the interview myself, I think the point was that Boehner would prefer that Ney simply step down gracefully. It's disappointing that he didn't come right out and say so, but I'll give Boehner the benefit of the doubt that if Ney doesn't resign, the House will expel him.
- tafdc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I suspect Boehner has agreed to allow him to run out the term so his pension is preserved... That alone should be reason enough to boot out Boehner as well.
- dangerweasel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Didn't they try and pass a law that convicted felons could not be elected to congress? Wasn't it blocked in some way. It would make a lot of things easier.
- ryansac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3He voted to expel a Democrat on corruption charges. http://www.vote-smart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?vote_id=3193&can_id=H3092103
I am sure glad he's not a partisan Republican. - eMuleDude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why should he resign? He fits in perfectly with all the other criminals in congress.
- jmullman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The thing that really stuck out, for me, is the Syrian money he's been accepting. Syria... you know... militant Islamist Syria.
Now we don't have to worry only about suicide bombers but the fact that the whackos have figured out how to control our government: line the pockets of whomever is in power. - kingygk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why hasn't William Jefferson been asked to resign after he was caught on video tape accepting money bribes from the FBI and found 90 grand in his freezer?
- Corvidae, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Jefferson hasn't been officialy found guilty...yet. As a democrat myself I think he should have either stepped up with one amazing freakin explanation or resigned and pled guilty. Either way he's gone next cycle. Dems will be better off putting a progressive in his seat anyway.
- kingygk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is video evidence and they found money in his freezer. If he were a republican he would have been forced to resign.
- Corvidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Having money in a freezer is wierd, and pretty damning evidence, but it's not illegal.
Don't get me wrong, I think the guy is probably scum and should go to jail. It just hasn't been proven in court that I know of yet. Either way like I said, he's dropped the ball by not stepping down or proving one insanely good explanation.
And obviously as we can see by the whole point of the article, pleading guilty to corruption charges isn't even enough to get a republican forced to resign.
