Is that really that hard to understand?? - cxrfreeman, on 04/13/2008, -3/+53"Only the people who have something to hide should worry about this." Orwell would be proud.

I think they resolved it already....we don't have privacy or rights anymore. - Jimmyb207, on 04/13/2008, -2/+34They sense Revolution. They spy on those that strikes fear in their hearts. No nation or terrorist can destroy the lair they have dug into American government. The only entity that can accomplish removing these parasites are the American people. They point the finger at al queda while simultaneously removing our freedoms, rights and civil liberties. We all should have a pretty good sense by now who this administration feels threatened by.
- MorgaineSwann, on 04/13/2008, -0/+29Are we, the American people, so lame, so hypnotized, and sleepwalking that we're going to let this happen? And keep happening? Has anyone figured out yet that they don't give a rat's ass about Al Qaeda? This is all about creating a police state here, just like Prescott Bush's business partner Adolf did in Germany. WAKE UP!

Do you have nothing better to do or is this just your home page? - macwac, on 04/13/2008, -1/+22The walls built to keep people 'out' can keep you in
The huge amount of prisons built, meant to 'safeguard' you from evil can keep you locked up
The spy satellites built to 'help' those in need can be used to hunt you down
The wire-tapping used to 'protect' against al queda can be used to hunt those that say anything negative against the people in charge
The finger printing used to 'identify' those that are innocent that enter the country can be used on you to identify you in any situation even if you have done nothing wrong
The DNA 'testing/mapping' of criminal DNA behavior can be used to remove children from society before they have committed a crime
(yes a tad extreme, but ask yourself these questions:)
Do you think that anyone of those elected will remove any of these programs? And how much or who will it take to replace all the 'can's with 'will's in the sentences above, if it hasn't already happened?
You my friend is no longer a human, but a mere barcode. Take a look at your expiry date - you turn sour, you will be disposed off. (note: i believe some of these are necessary - such as prisons.. but how many do you really need?) - mikelieman, on 04/13/2008, -2/+22I hear the Bush Admin cut the Reading-Is-Fundamental program from the budget, so sadly, yeah... Many are finding that clear text hard to comprehend.

- AlwaysAwake, on 04/13/2008, -1/+18George and his crew all lie with the same straight face. He never really cares if he gets caught, he accomplishes the mission anyway. He's no lame duck in his mind, and the object is to do as much damage as he can right up until the last moment in office, whether anyone else agrees with it, likes it or not.
- uberkling, on 04/13/2008, -0/+16As an Australian looking in, admitedly only informed through the web and tv news, things look pretty bleak for you guys.
Your economy is in deep recession. Your healthcare and education systems are ***** beyond repair. Your military is overstretched and crippled to exhaustion. Half the world hates America as a single entity. Inflation on basic necessities like gas are skyrocketing. Your middle class are losing their homes by the tens of thousands. An alarming percentage of your population is below the poverty line. Far, far too many people are more worried about keeping their guns and closing their ears while singing "la la la" about matters pertaining to science than they are about where the country will be economically in three years time.
Now, on top of all the other warrantless wiretapping and prying into your everyday lives you've already had the indignaty of putting up with you're losing even more of your inherant human right and need to privacy.
What just floors me is that you settle. You just keep getting on with your lives. You don't care, or enough of you don't. In all seriousness, why hasn't someone taken this crowd out of the picture yet? Impeachment, supreme court rulings, whatever?
WHY aren't you standing up for yourselves? - Shabadoo, on 04/13/2008, -0/+16"Sophisticated overhead sensor data will be used for law enforcement once privacy and civil rights concerns are resolved."
By "resolved", they mean "ignored". - Zarokima, on 04/13/2008, -2/+18Judging by the trite bile he's been spewing, I'd say he's a neocon propagandist using this as an opportunity to spread his idiocy.
- moregold, on 04/13/2008, -0/+15'clear up civil rights issues'... ? Could somebody wake me up from this nightmare. Please. 7+ years is almost Rip Van Winkle status. This is America Mr. Chertoff, not Israel. I understand your confusion, and conflicts of interest due to your 'dual-citzenship'. One would think that America would think twice before handing over their security to a possible double agent, and traitor to the United States.
- badassninja, on 04/13/2008, -0/+14Oh man Hitler would have killed for this! I was born in a weird time, one where the people still say that the USA is the greatest and we are informed that we are free and the goverment i there to serve the people yet it's clear to see from the eyes of someone only 27 years old that none of these things are any longer free.
It's not terrorist who are the bad guys, it is now our own goverment staging a war against it's own people.

- worldinmyeyes, on 04/13/2008, -1/+13Using 9/11 once again as an excuse to wage war on the Constitution, what a shock. But, the lemmings and sheep say sure he's obtuse and a bit untrustworthy, but why would the government inflict 9/11 on itself? They're not THAT evil! For all those that are blinded by "our government would never pull off 9/11" need only open their eyes and mind to see that official document proves the government would have staged terrorist attacks and blame them on a false enemy to justify war over 45 years ago. Wake up!

ABC News on Operation Northwoods
U.S. Military Drafted Plans to Terrorize U.S. Cities to Provoke War With Cuba
http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=92662&page=1
In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.
Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities. The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.
America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation." - inactive, on 04/13/2008, -5/+16Let me see if you can read my mind right now. - worldinmyeyes, on 04/13/2008, -1/+11Only a lame duck, if he doesn't declare martial law, cancel the elections, and declare himself dictator. Consider:
President Bush on May 9th, 2007 signed a presidential directive that would allow him full control of the government and the country without congressional oversight. All it will take is a national crisis that doesn't even need to take place in the western hemisphere, and we will have ourselves a dictator.
Google NSPD 51 and read what the media has largely kept from us all. - mystcnurse, on 04/13/2008, -1/+10All of this has happened before. In several other regimes. Those who don't understand history are condemned to repeat it, right. And Chertoff has dual citizenship, like he is a citizen of Israel. WHO THE ***** put him in charge of our country???? AND BTW, a little off topic, but BLACKWATER hires mercenaries from other counties, not just the US. Countries where people have few rights and violence runs rampant and the police can do whatever they want. These are the people who will enforce this spying and will keep you from protesting. Our senators and congressmen have no balls. And people don't want to get it, cause it's too inconvenient.
- bsmang, on 04/13/2008, -0/+9Only for some people.
- moregold, on 04/13/2008, -0/+9You think the KGB was bad, I just recently found out about 'MOSSAD'. Look into it yourself if you don't already know. It freaked me out about some of the dirty tricks we don't hear about over here everyday. I don't know what to believe half the time, and when I think there is some truth, the truth I see, I don't like... I am not 'anti' anything, but possible Double Agents installed into bureaucratic Public Offices with a lot of power, freaks me out... Up is Down...
- Izult, on 04/13/2008, -0/+9sleep in history class much?
- Groovemaster, on 04/13/2008, -2/+11"The only entity that can accomplish removing these parasites are the American people."
Well then it looks like they won't be removed.
You might as well say "The only entity that can remove these parasites are the paraplegic, clinically braindead thalidomide victims of our nation" for all the good the average American will do to preserve what was once the good name of their country. - TrevaLVF, on 04/13/2008, -0/+8"***** YOU, SPYING FASCISTS" should leave them with no doubt about who the intended recipient of your message is. Need any help? How much land are we talking about? I have a rider mower ;)
- PIR4T3, on 04/13/2008, -1/+9Well here it comes boys and girls the end of America as you know it. We have finally fell from the vicious razor blade of a free country in to the long dark Abyss of FASCISM. I hope all you pansies out there are happy. Because the thought of actually taking care of ones self. Instead of yelling for the government to protect you from a terrorist they them self have made biggie men out of. Wake Up America , Remember Hitler he promised a chicken in every pot, a car in every driveway, and a job for every man. How did that work out for the German people or worse yet the Jewish populations of eastern Europe. Wake up Wake up for the Red Coats are coming and they have way more than a musket. Give Me Liberty Or give me Death! Freedom! Freedom!
- Jimmyb207, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7"WHY aren't you standing up for yourselves?" Good question uber. The apathy that has infected the American population is unbelievable. Shameful, pathetic, weak....I could go on and on. Distracted by the TV, we never have the time to think about our impending doom. TV sedates, lulls the mind into a careless state. If Americans turned off that mind washing tool and actually used their brains for it's intended purpose, something amazing might take place . Soft from an easy, sit on our asses existence the thought of actually getting up off their asses and getting tough for a country that once inspired the world frightens them . The vast majority has NO IDEA what is a stake. I have written my congressmen and senators many times. Things will need to get worse than they are now before we revolt en mass, unfortunatly, because the time is now. We can all see whats coming down the road.
- Zarokima, on 04/13/2008, -2/+9It doesn't matter how clear it is, it's just a goddamned piece of paper!
Do I really need the /sarc? - TrevaLVF, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7Clearly, not you and I and others that see these changes for what they really are. The lame people that won't listen to us and the ones that insult us while they defend every step of the anti-freedom agenda, but for what they deny to be real are the ones that are hypnotized and sleepwalking.
- Izult, on 04/13/2008, -0/+7Seriously LR85 please get over the "it's all the liberals fault" mindset. The things wrong with this country are beyond partisan and both parties have been complicate in getting us to where we are now. If you really want to point fingers point fingers at the people who have continued to vote knowingly for the same do nothing representatives over and over and over again.

I watched him enter digg and watched what he posts right from the off. I hope he gets well paid to take down our names, btw. Cuz later one maybe the edges on them dollar bill$ he takes will slice his progency who will be ASHAMED of him.
Love those ad hominem attacks you do, Lone friggin ranger. History is on OUR SIDE, and always has been.
After reading the stoopidity of the election fracus commentators, coming her to see what people who can think are actually saying.
Much is going to happen before November .. and we should not be surprised the rapidity of developments. When the food becomes scarce, and people get REAL Riled when they choose between house payments, gas for their cars and food, then the DHS and Hankie Poo are gonna be BIG TARGETS .. Trust me. People will start turning off the propaganda on the plug in drug, me thinks.
Also many many lawyers and military JAGS are hip to the threats to civil liberties and are working hard night and day. We must dream up what we WANT TO HAPPEN NOW and keep coming up with real solutions. THERE ARE MORE OF US THAN THERE ARE OF THEM, and we must never forget that for one instant, whether we are dealing with soft or hard fascism. People have ALWAYS had to fight for civil and human rights in the US of A - we can do it this generation, too.
Maybe, maybe Obama will bring back real Habeas Corpus, been around about 800 years!! When they start exeucting those in Guantanamo, things will change VERY rapidly .. Start writing letters to the ACLU demanding they release their impeachment brochure. WRITE THE ICC a nice little letter about what you think about living under FASCISM and with war crimes like this and how much how despise knowing you are surveilled. The National Security Archive (part of George Washington University) JUST got the documents on satellite surveillance released, so STAY TUNED as there are plenty of troubling legal issues!! Expect to hear plenty more on this soon.
Forget the democrats! one of the biggest supporters of this technology was.. surprise.. ALBERT GORE. So much saber rattling by the democRATs, so little delivery on protecting our rights. WE have to do that by applying CONSTANT PRESSURE. It worked on the FISA ISSUE, wasn't really to the Dems liking! - DigitAl56K, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6I freaked today when I saw an ad *on cable TV* for the US Air Force implying that UAV's may be used domestically on a wide scale.

Behave yourself, citizens. - Izult, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6This is unacceptable. This is America and this is NOT what my ancestors fought for. It's time to stop writing letters and start protesting. They're no longer listening to the "voice of the people" but only make a show of it. I think it's past time to start using our first amendment rights in larger numbers. namely "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances". and don't fall for the "free speech zone" BS either. This entire country is a free speech zone.
- BlacklabelSAR, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6Land of the Free? Hardly. Home of the Brave? If that were the case then this administration would all be hanging from trees.
- crackedlogic, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6It's not a failure to understand. This is a willing refusal to comply with the constitution. There are those that would call that treason.
- inactive, on 04/13/2008, -0/+6"WHY aren't you standing up for yourselves?"
Many are, many can't, many won't. Things are not as bleak as you portray, but with corruption so prevalent in all levels of our civic structure, nothing can change over night. There is a lot of social inertia, especially when you are thwarted by the machine at every step.
Just look at the shills on digg who spout propaganda, now try and deal with them in the real world. - inactive, on 04/13/2008, -0/+5Chertoff should just put on his SS uniform and save us all the trouble of picturing him in it.
