Abortion Advocates Ask For Complete Cut in Abstinence Funds
lifenews.com — Several dozen members of Congress, all abortion advocates, have signed a letter to House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey asking him to cut all funds for abstinence education. They don't want any money spent in the FY 2009 Health and Human Services appropriations bill spent on abstinence.

The Alan Guttmacher fact sheet, Facts in Brief, reveals that, "Black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are 2 1/2 times as likely."
The Centers for Disease Control, which has been tracking the number and characteristics of women obtaining legal induced abortions since 1969, gives us these numbers. White women, who make up 75% of the female population in the U.S., account for only 55% of all U.S. abortions. Black women, who make up 12.3% of the females in the U.S, account for 35% of all U.S. abortions. "Other races" of women fill out the remaining 12.5% of the female population and account for 10% of all U.S. abortions.

I think you are misinformed. I did a quick search and found this on the Guttmacher Institute's website about world abortion rates:
" The most striking recent trends in abortion incidence have occurred in the formerly socialist countries of Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union, where abortion rates have fallen sharply (Table 1). Although abortions performed in newly established private services in many of these countries may be underreported, rates dropped substantially between 1991 and 1996 in all four of the former Soviet republics where reporting is believed to be reasonably complete—by 28% in Belarus, 32% in Estonia, 47% in Kazakhstan and 32% in Latvia."
Not that the downward trend is in FORMERLY socialist nations, not currently socialist. and I do realize that the report is dated 1999, so I will continue to look for more recent stats to support your assertion that socialist countries have the lowest abortion rates.

Think of it, spend the money on abstinence only, and save the money spent on STDs. That's a win-win situation right there, but naturally the pro-abortion leftists in Congress won't see it that way. They owe too much to the abortion lobby.
