- jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -18/+70TBARBE, ummmm, have you been living in a tree? Ron Paul and Moore are opposites in MANY ways!!!!
- kageki, on 10/11/2007, -4/+52Not many people even know of Nikola Tesla that does not make him any less of a genius.
I could care less if Ron Paul has a slim chance or not. I am not a sheep. I will still vote for Ron Paul because that is who I believe in.
I feel sorry for you people that cannot stand up for what you truly believe in and not what is dictated for you. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+46Oh the perils of jumping onto two bandwagons at the same time...
- toasty168, on 10/11/2007, -19/+60https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate/
Donate! - airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35Yes. I believe the two have messages which contradict one another.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+39I agree that this really is not news per-say (Digg is not just about news) but I sill like Ron Paul and I had to freakin' sit through all those damn "iPhone" articles, ...so I'm digging this.
Besides, saying... "And the tool in their hands and ours is the internet. With it, we can circumvent the biased media." is just so true... he already has my vote. You can really tell when a senator is bought by the media/propaganda machine, they hate everything to do with the internet. At least Ron Paul knows of the power the internet gives to the people, He has used it to circumvent the media and speak to the people directly. - Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -3/+32well that's the beauty of digg... you can ignore or digg. if its dugg well that's because there are supporters.
and Ron Paul Revolution is only because Internet exist and 67% of us have it.
Believe me, you would never heard about him if Internet didn't exist.
Lets change the debate! and The world! - Kelgann, on 10/11/2007, -13/+36The free market does work, but only in certain situations. As long as price remains elastic with respect to supply and demand, the market is an extremely powerful tool. The problems arise in markets where there are partial or full monopolies in place (ISP's is one example of a partial monopoly due to extremely high startup costs), where price fixing is taking place (this is illegal in the US, but OPEC operates outside the US, setting our oil prices), or when prices are inelastic (for example healthcare).
- EntropyGun, on 10/11/2007, -1/+20TEDDY ROOSEVELT + BATMAN = BFF!
- PrettyLadyGrace, on 10/11/2007, -13/+32many ppl on this site supported ron paul in ways that they shouldnt have, but looking outside of that, I think that ron paul is one person who really can make a difference, and i hope that those people didn't hinder his support on this website
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22Socialism (aka Big Government, Nanny State) does not mesh well with Libertarianism (aka Small Government, Sink or Swim)
If you think they work together, then you should NEVER talk about politics again for the rest of your life. - geekee, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22"aside perhaps from their desire for civil rights and freedoms, be reconciled"
UNiversal health care and gun control both take away freedom. Whether or not they are good is another issue, but saying Michael Moore promotes freedom is not very accurate. - jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -14/+31I agree, Ron Paul is a great guy, b/c he seems to be ONE person who has stayed consistent, and avoided giving into the temptation of government officials of getting bought by lobbyists. I am just concerned with a too-quick of a jump to completely trust the free market.
- CannedMango, on 10/11/2007, -1/+18It's true, but why must ideas fit only under one banner? The best presidents always had advisors with very different viewpoints than their own. It's what helps to keep them grounded in reality rather than just being surrounded by cronies and yes-men.
- strOphe, on 10/11/2007, -10/+26I got a little signed letter from him today talking about how the campaign was going. I was so surprised. He's actually taking the time to send thank yous and encouragement to everyone who's donated to his campaign I guess... what a guy!
- Seefate, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19Another Iphone story, buried because if people cared they would go to apples website.. Your buried for being ***** retarded.
- sundancekid503, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Time for another reality check: Giuliani is the worst thing that could happen to America in '08. Four more years of status-quo and having 9/11 rubbed in our faces? No thanks!!
- crxvfr, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20Campaigning costs money. Moving a crew across the country and dealing with everything that entails can't be cheap. I felt like you at first but then I thought about Rons record of returning a portion of his congressional budget every year. That, along with his history on other things changed my feeling about being "solicited". I realized I believe in the things he has to say and I understand that regardless of what how he feels about it, he has to play the game they created. I want Ron Paul to beat them, at their own game. His record and platform has won my respect. I'm a cheap skeptic, but I donated today because I feel that any funds donated will be used honestly and accordingly. None of the others would ever get a cent from me.
- genmay, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16Yea, like in Iowa when he had 1000 people show up for his rally.
Right next door the same day they had six Republican Candidates and it only drew about 600.
It was probably all digg users at his rally, pay no attention to him. - Seefate, on 10/11/2007, -5/+19The ISP's are a result of government intervention and giving all the power to companies like Bell Atlantic and such rather then leaving it open to free market. It is all in the last 3 feet of cable as they say.
Oil is yet another example of Government intervention. The need to "protect out interests" by spending the Tax payer money to fight wars to defend oil so companies like Haliburton can sell it to us for top dollar. ***** if it wasn't for government intervention we would all probably be driving electric cars because gasoline would of been too much of a pain in the ass to acquire.
Finally health care while I do agree that this is somewhat corrupt it is perpetuated by our government intervention. Things like making it illegal to go out of the country to get meds for cheaper and politicians getting kick backs to pass laws that help big pharma companies.
Really I think the government should have little to no involvement in the market, at all.. If we don't like what one company does, we can fight it. But our government is a lot harder to fight because as we can see from bush, they don't even have to listen to us. They get our money and their isn't a damn thing we can do.
- anonydigg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+15There are 484 diggs so far, so "7 people" doesn't seem to be accurate.
- roxroxdigg, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14If you are that impressionable and unable to choose a candidate based on their virtues and values then it's probably best that you refrain from voting. Voting against a candidate because of Digg is just as bad as voting for one because they say they are Christian etc.
- kageki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Maybe if the mainstream media actually even mentioned Ron Paul for once those numbers would be much different.
- JettaMan, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13I just donated $100 to his campaign. If he can deliver a better future for this country, it will be worth it.
- Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15well it isn't about digg, neither about Ron Paul, it's only about the message. If you respect yourself you should learn about all the candidates and choose. Who says others candidate have better tactics. Why people aren't arguing that the War on Terror is making them sick? ... or the corruption and conflict of interest in the neocons... ?
- Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14google wasn t invented by the gov.
and the internet would have born with computers and network anyway...
the irony is that if the media wasn't controlled or "sold" Ron Paul wouldn t need internet to make his voice heard! - omio, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16Why do people claim anything with ron paul spam? Thats ridiculous.
- kingcam, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14You do understand that they are at the complete opposite of the political spectrum, right (Did I miss the sarcasm)? I admire the ideas of both men however they cannot, aside perhaps from their desire for civil rights and freedoms, be reconciled. I do however wish that they could be.
- gandhi2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11What an incredibly baseless, biased, and ambiguous statement. Moore wants WHAT health care? Health care for all? Health care for free? Universal health care? Quality health care? Red health care? Pickled health care? Sour health care?
It's true that Paul's platform is opposed to tax-funded universal health care regulated and controlled by government. But without ANY health care or health industry, many of his direct family would be out of jobs. With his experience in the field, and from past statements, it's pretty clear that Ron Paul DOES in fact want BETTER and MORE AFFORDABLE health care for the average American. He just doesn't feel like tax-funded-universal-health-care-regulated-and-controlled-by-government health care will achieve either of those goals.
If you argue on principles, you'd get a lot more support. Please don't make baseless assertions with no facts to support them. Really, I wish you'd wake up and do a little research before simply saying something to make yourself look like an ass. - Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11will give him a voice, so the debate is more interesting and real question are asked.
Tell me who is talking about economics, about the dollar, about the commercial deficit?
isn't an important question? - Quick2822, on 10/11/2007, -1/+11What kind of poorly thought out post is this?
Take a second and look and 99% of all the posts dugg down on any Ron Paul digg submissions. They lack anything worth debating. Here, let me give you a quick snap shot of negative Ron Paul comments.
"***** RON PAUL!"
"Ron Paul will never win"
"Hey look at his poll numbers he is sitting at 1%... LOLZ!"
"All Ron Paul supporters spam!"
Wow, so much to debate with these people. Where would one begin? - kageki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Yes unfortunately he is because the media here has systematically blacked him out. The media knows how popular Ron Paul is on the internet and yet has not done one exclusive on him. You do the math.
- anonydigg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11The U.S is already hated around the world and soon enough you will see the economic impacts of it.
Tourism is down 17 percent since 911, US dollar has consistently lost value with foreign trade not increasing enough to compensate for it, therefore lowering the purchasing power of the U.S. Oil producing countries have started to abandon the U.S dollar (the major backing of that currency considering the massive trade deficit of the U.S) for Euros, on top of loss of domestic freedoms and privileges and massive amounts of money spent on overseas adventures which have negligible return. U.S foreign policy can and has had a negative impact. You can't just go around the world and do what ever you want expecting nothing to happen. - kageki, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Would you even have known about him if not for Digg?
- tidu, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10The thing is that there is a lot of stuff he is saying that won't be passed by Congress and such. It's not like the day he's elected all of these branches will be demolished and the market will be free of government. It will change gradually, or not at all if Congress isn't happy with it, because they certainly won't have many of the same views as Paul.
- chowdah, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10All roads lead to Tesla...
- Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9So do you really think that without gov. research we wouldn't have computers or networks... and Internet?
- kageki, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Ever think why? It's not possibly because the mainstream media doesn't cover him at all? I wouldn't have known about Ron Paul either if it wasn't for the internet.
Who's Mitt Romney anyways? - Spentlife, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12And then blow back... oooo nooo terrorist.... lets make a police state because the security is too important!
and there you go with the so freedom land American dream for centuries.. nice vision for the futur! - Griffology, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11For the record, not all Ron Paul supporters have an iPhone or sit in starbucks (or any other trivial attribute for that matter), connecting the two to a political candidate is ludicriuos and ignorant.
Also, your point of the hospitals being run as a business actually would be a good thing. Businesses that provides good service(s) stays in business. The government can't correctly run numerous other entities effectively, I sure as hell don't want them running my health care... - NSResponder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8"partial monopoly" is an oxymoron.
-jcr - andrewmi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9You say it's possible, but Ron Paul (not surprisingly) disagrees: http://ronpaul2008.typepad.com/ron_paul_2008/2007/03/socialized_medi.html
This is not surprising because really the ideas are mutually exclusive if you approach the situation from an ideological standpoint, as I explained above. It may be a good idea to go with "what works" instead of following a specific ideology, but it's almost impossible to find a politician with such an approach.
Edit: here is an article by Dr. Paul that talks about fixing medicine without socializing it: http://www.lewrockwell.com/paul/paul339.html - blitzman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"the health care system in the US, which we can all agree is a problem, would be infinitely worse off with a libertarian."
All you have to do is go back before 1962, and you have a fairly libertarian health care system in this country. Would you say it was infinitely worse than now? Consider that the steep rises in health care costs didn't start until after 1962, when the government got heavily involved in health care. - strOphe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Most of the people dug down in this thread are screaming about spam or just being offensive rather than thoughtful like you. If you're going to spam to whine about spam, you probably got what you deserved.
- tropican8, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9"Later this week I go to Google—perhaps the nerve center of the internet—at the company's invitation, to talk to all their employees. Brilliant young techies are part of our constituency, and I am looking forward to that visit."
I wonder if they will try to get him to reconsider his views on Net Neutrality. - knomevol, on 10/18/2007, -6/+13but noone said he was against COMPETENT health insurance
- strOphe, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Even though you dug me down like the hater you are... here's your proof. Hope it helps debunk the massive conspiracy I was starting...
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/1056/picture2gd4.png - ozroy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9So you would rather remain ignorant about the candidates and just vote because you like them superficially instead of actually trying to educate yourself about the guy and see if they really will be good for the country?
The last 7 years are starting to make more sense to me now. - jamesallen74, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Very naive and OVERLY-simple response. Again watch the video.
And READ my comment. I JUST SAID "We NEED the free market", so why would I want socialism or communism?? Good job Homer Simpson.
Government is needed, for
- military,
- police, fire, (at local level)
- basic education (at local level not federal)
- healthcare (yes I said it)
- and to hold the market accountable to how they treat their workers and consumers.
Free market with a "trust us, we will behave" = disaster
Free market with conscience, morality, fair treatment, fair wages and a government (a PEOPLE-government not the corrupt kind now) that keeps the market in line = much better
Government should be limited, kept in check, but the government is not some foreign being, it is US, for us, by us. We let it get corrupt. -
